Fingers crossed Leonie. Honestly I had such plans for my birth- water, no pain relief, over in 12 hours etc. That went all out of the window and I'm still really proud of it and pleased with how it went. Just hate my stitches. Apparently I should be walking around normally now so I really am the exception not the rule with episiotomy recovery.

Shelb the black and white cover you can see poking through is the safari cover it came with- it looks amazing. We've put DHs tshirt over the top of it and the black and grey star you can see at the bottom is a swaddle muslin we're using as a blanket.

The bottom undoes to allow the feet to poke out once they get longer so he should fit in it until at least 6 months I hope.

BunchOfBobs · 15/08/2016 11:10

Shelb that's the reason I got an epidural- because of the drip I had to go on.

leoniethelioness · 15/08/2016 11:27

Shelb, Bunch She is very open minded about pain relief so I think she'll take what is offered. Sounds like she's managed on gas and air so far but then again, not much seems to have happened yet. She's been very quiet all morning (she was texting a lot yesterday) so thinks are definitely ramping up.

I'm definitely planning on pain relief for my labour. If I need an epidural then I'll have to transfer to consultant led though as they don't offer it on the midwife led unit where I'm planning to give birth. Mixed feelings about pethidine so not sure what I'll end up with if water and gas and air aren't enough.

I just want to go into labour naturally if I can, when baby is ready. Waters being broken, pessaries, gels, drips - it all worries me!

mayago · 15/08/2016 12:37

Bunch Atticus certainly is amazing! I love how cozy he looks in his sleepyhead. That's a great idea using a t-shirt in there; those covers are expensive!!

Leonie it all worries me right now; but I'm only half way so I can push the uncomfortable 'exit strategies' thoughts from my head for the time being! Fingers crossed everything goes well for your DSis - at least she's open minded; I'm sure that's such a big help.

Potato what a moving saga! Sounds like you're well entertained while waiting for potato to arrive.

Elle hope the midwife appointment goes well!

Congrats on the new car Ni! I'm trying to persuade OH into a Seat (my neighbours have one and they rave about it!). He wants a sports car Golf, but if I'm ever to use it the extras will be very welcome. I have parking sensors and satnav in my car, and I don't think I could do without now. It's not often I drive in London these days, but I find the little extras comforting when I do.

Feef it must be baby season! Hope your friend and her new little one are doing well. 4.5 weeks early isn't too much of a worry, is it?

Miley you looked fantastic in that dress! Sorry you're feeling rough today, and hope it passes soon.

Shelb and Lillian hope the period pains have eased. I've associated them with baby growing and making room as I find it easier to rationalise pain. Not sure if this is actually the case at all..

Soda enjoy your time away, and happy anniversary!

New I hope everything is going well and baby makes an appearance soon. It's so exciting being a forum spectator Grin

Audrey excellent scan pictures! I'm hoping your experiences are vastly improved following your 12 week scan - was it you who found the sonographer a little rude at that point? Hopefully the dog wound is healing nicely by now.

LisaTheSimpson · 15/08/2016 12:53

Ahh, I've been busy for the weekend and I've missed around 100 posts! Sorry if I miss anyone, I've only done a skim read.

New - fingers crossed for everything and wishing you a very speedy labour and delivery! Eek!

Potato and Shelb - sounds like you two might not be far off! Hope the pains become something constructive and you're not in too much discomfort.

Miley - you look gorgeous! I'm impressed with the tailoring as I can't even tell the dress has been altered.

Bunch - I love seeing the regular Atticus updates and photos. I'm so glad things are going well and your little snuggles with him sound so lovely and magical. Thank you for all your honesty and advice about your experience, it's been great to hear about everything. Have your parents been over and been able to see Atticus? They must be so happy for you all.

PotatosMum · 15/08/2016 12:58

aww Bunch he looks so snug Smile

Leonie glad your sister is taking it in her stride but I'm with you, that sounds like my idea of hell!!!

I swear people are trying to aggravate me on purpose. I've received another demand for payment of a parking ticket for the previous owners, I'm stating to think I'm going to have to call them and tell them to get stuffed and I've received a £60 bill from British Gas for a visit I thought was free... It's even noted as free on the paperwork they left me but apparently I should have magically known it wouldn't be and the engineers can't be expected to know what policy I'm on. Hmm I've had a blazing row with them about it and now I'm waiting to talk to a manager. To add insult to injury, whatever they did has caused a build up of air in the pipes that causes a rattling sound, they are happy to send someone out but if they decide it's not related I'll be charged a second £60 to fix it regardless of the fact that the problem didn't exist before the engineer drained and recharged the water tank!!!

This is not doing my blood pressure any good Angry

It's chaos over here at the moment. We're having our kitchen done and today is the first day of work.

We're having everything done - whole thing ripped out, new floor, new walls, plaster everywhere, re-direct piping, electrics, the works. The new kitchen stuff arrived on Saturday and is currently filling our living room. There is just about room to sit on one of the sofas (the other is covered in stuff) and watch some TV (we've been loving the Olympics), but it's a pretty restricted view. So the downstairs is pretty much out of bounds at the moment and I'm working from home upstairs.

How do people cope with eating when you can't have a fridge or oven or anything! Confused Two weeks of this is going to be interesting....!

I've pretty much parked everything baby-related for two weeks. 33 weeks today, so I'll get back on with things (what's left to buy, sorting hospital bag, etc.) at the bank holiday weekend.

LisaTheSimpson · 15/08/2016 13:16

Potato - what a nightmare! The customer service from British Gas sounds appalling - if you've got paperwork saying it's free, how can they refute that, whatever policy you're on?!

For about a year after we moved in, we had legal/court letters arriving for the previous owners, and even some bailiffs looking for him. No idea what any of it was about (probably something minor rather than something big and exciting...!), but it was a massive faff and a little bit intimidating when bailiffs were trying to get in. Hmm

PotatosMum · 15/08/2016 13:34

Lisa that sounds like a nightmare with the kitchen but hopefully you'll have a gorgeous new kitchen at the end of it.

Yes, the British Gas customer service guy was awful. I wasn't even a annoyed when I called, it was him who made me mad. If I'd had someone with better customer service skills or someone who had at least offered a good will gesture I probably would have dropped it and chalked it up to experience. Now I'm left feeling cross and with rattling pipes and I'm too nervous to call them out to fix them because I think they'll try to find an excuse to charge me for it Sad

Lisa both sets of grandparents managed to see us in hospital for 2 hours. They stayed at our house and cleaned everything , did all our laundry and looked after the dog. They went home before we got home and are all on their way back as we speak. I think seeing me will shock them as I literally only leave bed for the loo. Sorry for the brutal honesty but as I said it really is the exception not the rule.
When we gutted our kitchen before christmas we lived off the microwave and takeaways.

Potato I would be going nuts in the position you are in. Try and remain calm to keep your blood pressure healthy- easier said than done I know.

leoniethelioness · 15/08/2016 15:04

DSis had an epidural about an hour ago. Hopefully baby will be here by the end of the day.

BunchOfBobs · 15/08/2016 15:38

Fin fees crossed Leonie.

Thinking of you New, hope all is going smoothly.

PotatosMum · 15/08/2016 16:00

Leonie that's good about your sister, hope it goes well.

Anyone else convinced that New must be in labour now? Grin

I'm absolutely roasting and exhausted again. We have FIL coming over at 5:30 but I just want to go and have a nap again. OH should be home soon so I might leave him to finish dinner and get a quick nap in before FIL arrives. I've never been able to actually nap during the day before in my life but the last few days I've just completely run out of energy.

OP posts:
leoniethelioness · 15/08/2016 16:07

New's waters went more than 24 hours ago so she must be, surely?

HepKestrel · 15/08/2016 16:09

sympathies Lisa !

we have got our first quotes on a new kitchen, and i have just emailed my local friendly builder to see if he is available before jan .

might be a bit of a race..... bump vs. kitchen.....

LisaTheSimpson · 15/08/2016 16:45

Hi Hep! Great to see you here!

Potato - another one here who has never napped in her life. I'm starting to get quite tired now, and expect to start napping any day. My DH could cat nap if you snapped your fingers, so he finds it really weird that I don't want to nap.

Bunch - oh, that's so lovely of your parents and in-laws, they sound so thoughtful and helpful. And don't apologise for your honesty - it means so much to us.

On another note - DH has suddenly suggested the name Quinn (for a girl). Honest opinions please - is it too far out there? I'm really not sure how I feel about it, so prepared to hear both good and bad views.

leoniethelioness · 15/08/2016 16:48

I'd think Quinn was a boy although I know there was a girl in Glee called Quinn.

Despite being in hospital since 10 am on Saturday and being induced at 2 pm, DSis is only 4 cm dilated but looks happy and relaxed in her labour selfies that she has sent me now that she's had the epidural. The gas and air made her sick so this seems to be a good option for her. I hope her labour starts to progress now. Induction is so slow!

leoniethelioness · 15/08/2016 16:50

That's induced at 2 pm on Saturday...

shelbTa · 15/08/2016 18:15

Oh yeah good point about new!

Take all the sleeps when you can potato, I'm doing the same. How are the braxton hicks going?

Bunch - can I ask, did you snack much in labour? Obviously a very
Important question there!

X

IndiX · 15/08/2016 18:28

Oh Leonie I feel so sorry for your poor Dsis. Good that she's had pain relief and feeling a bit more relaxed, I can't imagine how frustrating rang must be when she just wants to meet her baby!

I hope new is getting on ok, I keep checking for updates.

Lisa I just think of Quinn from Glee. Wouldn't be my personal choice but I don't think it's too crazy. I heard a girl called Parker the other week and thought that was quite a cool name, not my taste but she suited it.

Potato I've never been a napper but basically since I've been pregnant I've felt the need to nap. Through the 2nd trimester I wasn't as bad but the tiredness is definitely coming back now. If this is the start of labour then definitely get all the sleep you can whatever time of the day.

Bunch bit of a random question but how much weight have you lost? If you've weighed yourself..I'm intrigued to know how much you lose in the first week or so apart from just baby

ElleSarcasmo · 15/08/2016 18:30

Potato blimey about the old owners! Let's hope it all dies down quickly. Hope your OH does all the legwork with FIL.

I like Quinn for a girl (or a boy) Lisa. I don't think it's too out there.

Everything looking good at the midwife, thanks. I don't need to see her for another 6 weeks (but have another scan and consultant appointment before that). She said I should start thinking about my birth plan (things like who should be there, whether we want vitamin k for the baby, pain relief).

LOVE the sleepyhead picture of Atticus Bunch! He looks so comfy and cosy, you've made my mind up to buy one now! Good idea putting a tshirt over it too.

BunchOfBobs · 15/08/2016 19:09

Shelb I wasn't too hungry but wish I had more.

Lisa I really like Quinn.

Indi I've lost 15kg so far and it seems to be still going. I have the skinniest legs since all my water retention has gone!! Grin

Co5mo · 15/08/2016 19:51

I suspect New is probably in labour as she hasn't updated us (although waters can sometimes break long before labour starts). She said they were thinking about inducing her if she hadn't started didn't she?

May our Seat Leon is great. Definitely go for that over the golf if you can.

It's been a long day for me. Growth scan wasn't entirely positive this morning and I ended up being re scanned by a consultant this afternoon. Baby's arms and legs are below the 5th percentile so we're on regular scans until he arrives. Fingers crossed it's just because his Mum is a short arse.

Co5mo · 15/08/2016 19:53

Lisa another positive vote for Quinn.

Pinklily1 · 15/08/2016 19:59

Elle, glad the midwife appointment went well. I get strangely excited for my midwife appointments as I'm always intrigued as to what she's going to say.

Congrats on 33 weeks Lisa! I'm sure the new kitchen will be worth it in the end, although it sounds like a bit of a hassle at the minute. Better to get it done before baby arrives though. In terms of names, being totally honest (which is mortifying for me), I had a spell of watching Glee when it first came on tv, and there is a character in that called Quinn (a girl), so I just associate it with that so am not massively keen as she was a bit irritating. I do love names that are a bit different though, and think its actually better for a girl than for a boy.

Potato, that's so irritating about British Gas, and the police visit too Shock. No wonder the previous owners have moved abroad!

Shelb - yeah for 38 weeks Grin. How are the pains now?

A new car is exciting Ni. We've been looking but still haven't decided properly on what to get, we're undecided between three at the minute.

Miley, how are you feeling now?

How are the stitches Bunch, are you feeling any better? I can't believe you've lost 15kg, that's amazing. I had no concept of how much comes off pretty much straight away after baby arrives.

Fingers crossed for New. I'm hoping no news means she's well and truly on her way to becoming a mummy Grin

Leonie, your poor sister. Its not my idea of a 'fun' labour, but I suppose they have to do what's best for mum and baby, whatever that may be.

I had period pains all of yesterday afternoon and last night, and again today. I feel like when we reach this stage, (38 weeks tomorrow for me) every twinge could be the start of something. Its exciting but also unnerving all at the same time.

Sorry if i've missed anyone - lots to catch up on today!
