I'll be 12 +2 for my scan. Fell down the last few stairs at work today, carrying the 12mo old. He was fine and I think I'm fine although my foot is killing me. I landed on my side with my foot folded under. Just had a 15 min walk to where my car was parked and I'm not enjoying it. Just glad it was only my foot, was feeling quite panicky as I fell.

NameChange30 · 12/08/2016 18:19

Oh poor you Super, hope you're not too sore for too long x

Aw, I'm sorry super! I've nearly stumbled a couple of times and it's terrifying - sounds like you landed fairly safely though. Hope your foot gets better soon!

On scans, mine is booked in for September 7th which was going to be 12+6 but adjusting the dates according to the early scan we had last week means that I'll actually be 12 weeks on the dot.

tutulove1 · 12/08/2016 19:58

Gardencentre I had no idea there even was such thing as a 4th degree ouch ouch ouch.
Well my 3rd degree was on the first (I had to go into theatre to be stitched up-sorry if tmi)
For my second I ummed and aahed for months about whether to have a C section and in the end decided to go for a natural labour. In my case I'm so glad I did!!! Even though he was 10 days overdue labour was so quick (a few hours, a bit of gas and air and a few pushes quick) although I did get 2nd degree tears but these were fine and was on my feet very quickly.
Was your first labour quick? Mine was I have what they call spontaneous deliverys which makes tearing much more likely or something.
Anyhow it's your call and all the best with whatever you decide xx

NameChange30 · 12/08/2016 20:03

I'm really scared of tearing Sad I know it's common and most women heal, but the idea of 3rd/4th degree tears scares the shit out of me. I had a chronic vulval pain condition for many years (that's only just gone, touch wood!) so I think I'm probably more paranoid that I might otherwise be.

OP posts:
tutulove1 · 12/08/2016 20:25

I'm so sorry if I scared you namechange despite tearing I loved giving birth both times. I have to say I'm not a person who gives my friends horror stories, for me they were both such empowering experiences and I like to pass on those vibes to my friends who are due to give birth to their first children.
I'm a naturally dramatic person re illness (when I had a diabetes check which was a tiny needle in the finger I screamed the doctors down) but in birth I get all empowered and determined.
So I'm sending lots of positive vibes abs don't listen to the horror stories. There was a study out that said that women remember their birth stories long into their old age when other things can be forgotten.
You won't forget this wonderful experience of having a child, ever xxx

Thinking of you Elsa and boots Flowers

I have my 12 week scan on Wednesday, I'll be 12 weeks exactly.

Ouch super, hope you feel better soon!

tutulove1 · 12/08/2016 20:30

Boots and Elsa, I've had friends and family go through your agony with early scans and there have been many success stories. My cousin was told at 8 weeks similar news to you, she was so depressed and guess what, she now has a healthy baby girl!! so all could end very well for you both xx

SuperDuperJezebel · 12/08/2016 20:57

Feeling so sorry for myself, not helped because DH is working late AGAIN and I had to cook dinner whilst hopping around like a loony. Said I'd try and wait up to see him when he gets home around midnight but I've already dozed off.

Signed up for a few pregnancy Pilates sessions last night, the lady who does it seems lovely and has just had her own baby, she organises new mums social meet ups too, and pregnancy Pilates + mocktails nights, and later Pilates and prosecco, so I'm quite excited. We don't have any family locally so it will be nice to meet more people in the same situation and hopefully have some new friends by the time baby arrives.

DaisyBank82 · 12/08/2016 20:59

Wanted to add my labour with DD was also a really positive experience. Mostly at home (I was 7cm when I got I to the birthing centre) and I had a couple of hours in the water at the great midwife led unit. That did slow things down though so they made me get out and I ended up with an episiotomy which wouldn't have been my preference but they wanted to get my daughter out as it had been over 24 hours since my waters had gone. The pain was intense but never unbareable and I healed quickly. I am really exited to do it again. If it was as bad as some of the stories no one would ever have more than one baby!

ItsMagicYouKnow · 12/08/2016 20:59

Hope your foot feels better soon super!

Having my scan at 12 weeks exactly, 30 August! I had it at 13+3 last time though.

I had an episiotomy and stitches with my first, never felt a thing and it healed up perfectly if that reassures anyone! Smile

NameChange30 · 12/08/2016 21:08

tutu No need to apologise at all, it's a general worry of mine anyway, so it wasn't you who scared me! I would much rather hear about people's experiences so I can be informed. Thanks all for the positive stories and reassurance. I'm sure I will be fine and whatever happens, it will be worth it if I get a healthy baby at the end Smile

Got my scan at 12+6 on the 31st

I am also chilling with the Olympics and chocolate after a horrible work week, just glad I've got 2 days off now

neonrainbow · 12/08/2016 21:14

My 12 week scan Is on Monday the 15th. I will be 11 + 4 I think but I obviously won't know exactly how far I am until I have a scan.

I am seeing the consultant in a few weeks and hoping that he will offer me a Cesarean as one thing I have never ever ever seen the appeal of is giving birth naturally. The talk of tears is reinforcing that. If i was having one Baby, and had the option of not having an epidural i would be more likely to try natural. From what I have read it is more common with twins that you have an epidural in case you need to go to Theatre in a hurry and I wouldn't want to give birth naturally with an epidural I don't think As i would want to move around.

NameChange30 · 12/08/2016 21:19

neonrainbow I have a GP friend and she told me that ambulatory epidural is now an option, ie an epidural that allows you to walk/move around. Sounds ideal to me!
However I have another friend who had an ELCS as she was anxious about a vaginal birth. So I think you should do whatever you feel most comfortable with.

OP posts:
neonrainbow · 12/08/2016 21:26

Thanks namechange i had heard of those epidurals but I don't know if they would let someone have one For a high risk pregnancy. they give you an epidural in case you need to be rushed to Theatre so they may just make you have a standard type I will have to ask consultant. But either way i prefer the idea of a c section. I've read too much about the things that can go wrong with vaginal births on mn. Confused

tutulove1 · 12/08/2016 21:32

I have no idea what the protocol is re twins neon. I imagine it's a whole different ball game though, one of my best friends is having twins (due 25th Jan) so I'll keep you posted with how hers went.
Congrats on the twin news by the way, when my friend popped round to tell me the news I screamed for a few minutes, then cried then just sat there saying "I just can't believe it" over and over again. Such an amazing thing to happen to you xx

NameChange30 · 12/08/2016 21:32

neon My advice is to be very clear with the consultant that you would like an ELCS. My friend had a difficult time getting one - although to be fair she didn't have twins or a high risk pregnancy. It might be different for you, I don't know. This is a good fact sheet in case you need it: www.birthrights.org.uk/library/factsheets/Right-to-Medical-Assistance.pdf

OP posts:
neonrainbow · 12/08/2016 21:47

Thank you both!! I feel a bit like im wimping out for not wanting to do it "properly" but at the same time its my body and my choice. I don't think its an easier choice but everything being planned does appeal to me.

neonrainbow · 12/08/2016 21:48

Thanks tutu Grin ive just got my head around twins. Someone said today what if they find another one at the scan Confused

NameChange30 · 12/08/2016 21:51

neon I just looked it up (because I'm nosy curious) and apparently it's very common for twins to be born by c-section; more than half according to TAMBA. So I don't think you should have any problems if that's what you want.

Sorry to scare you with the story of my friend who had trouble getting one - by the sounds of it having twins is a game changer!

OP posts:
tutulove1 · 12/08/2016 22:01

My friend did say the midwife said she can have one natural and one by CSection I nearly choked on my cup of tea at the thought of that, I'd would have to be one or the other.
Ok I'm gonna put it out there if I was having twins it would be a c section and they'd be formula fed from those little premade cartons. I apologise for my honesty in advance!x

neonrainbow · 12/08/2016 22:06

Tutu that's one of the things im worried about... apparently it's not uncommon to go through labour and then still need an emergency c sec ... who would want to recover from all that?!

neonrainbow · 12/08/2016 22:07

Name change i think anyone can request an elcs if they want one, but i think it depends on your trust.

NameChange30 · 12/08/2016 22:14

neon The Nice guidelines, which are obviously UK-wide, say that anyone can request a C-section. In practise I think different trusts/consultants can make it easy or difficult. But the official line is that women should get one if they want one.
