Thread five for the chattiest bunch of preggers ladies you've ever had the pleasure of encountering. We're greeting the second trimester with excitement and apprehension, and lots of questions, humour, reassurance, empathy and advice.

Fourth thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/2684139-february-2017-thread-4-are-we-the-chattiest-bunch-or-what

sparkles happy bday! Yes I think I've had the same! Xx

Itslittlek · 11/08/2016 08:39

I'm 16 weeks tomorrow, did anyone else have any similar thoughts to mine about their tummy being lots of different shapes through the day?

LaceyLee · 11/08/2016 08:39

I didn't actually give birth in the pool but was in there for quite a while and would also recommend. It made the pain much better. Hoping for a water birth this time. Still worrying about my test results though and calling the midwife as soon as it's 9am.

You don't start planning the birth til much later. Maybe 30 something weeks I think.

SBSparkles · 11/08/2016 08:47

Itslittlek thanks! Yes I notice it's more bulgy on the left quite a lot. In the scan that's where the head was. I rolled over in bed and put pressure on the side and I'm sure I felt something move! It's probably all in my head though haha! X

Itslittlek · 11/08/2016 08:49

I definitely relate to the kind of popping sensation, that happened 2 nights ago and a little bit yesterday x

twocatsandatoddler · 11/08/2016 08:51

lacey I had similar - 1 in 244 compared to about 1 in 4,500 last time.

I did some research into how the two hormones they test in the blood test, NT and age combine to give the risk factor, and my result is because my PAPP-A levels are low, which combined with high HCG can indicate Down's. However my nuchal measurement was low (1.3) so I don't think there's a significant risk, and the midwives advised me that I didn't need to do any further testing.

If it turns out you have low PAPP-A too then feel free to PM me as I spent about 2 days frantically reading everything to do with low PAPP-A when I got my results!

kikisdelivery · 11/08/2016 09:02

Happy birthday Sparkles! I too have had a couple of popping sensations in my stomach area, but I've decided not to get too hopeful yet - I've only just hit 14 weeks, so I'm going to put it down to digestion for now!

topmammy · 11/08/2016 09:21

button re. the prepacked sandwich thing, I think it's due to the risk of listeria. I don't know if subway is the same risk but I'm not giving up subways anyway ha!

I didn't feel my first unmistakable little kicks until the day before my 20w scan last time but I have felt some little flutters already this time I think.

MrsM2016 · 11/08/2016 09:49

Hi ladies, love the bump photos, I am really showing now too.

I am 14+4 and still throwing up daily! Anyone still in the same boat?

LaceyLee · 11/08/2016 10:07

Thanks twocats apparently the PAPP-A was fine but the beta HCG was quite high so that could be it....going to research nipt testing and decide if it's worth it.

Sorry to hear you're still throwing up MrsM that's rubbish! Maybe speak to your midwife?

kikisdelivery · 11/08/2016 13:24

I've just spent my lunchtime putting together a nice baby wishlist on Amazon, and then crapping myself at the price.... eeep!

Over to the local Facebook second-hand selling page with me!

mrschn · 11/08/2016 13:26

Hi ladies, 14+6 and two days sickness free here \o/

Those asking about water birth my advice would just be keep an open mind. I was dead set on a water birth, but the hospital was short of pool trained midwives. By the time they had one free and the pool was full and ready I was quite well established. I was in for 10 minutes before my temperature went dangerously high and they made me get out (not a mean feat in advanced stages of labour). Without water as pain relief, I asked for epidural but by that time the anaesthetist was in surgery. I ended up delivering just with gas and air.

This time I am all about the drugs!!

I also feel those who have tiny midwife appointment slots. Ours are Monday's 1-3. Really helpful when I work in London. Have to leave before lunch to get there on time! Basically have to force a work from home day.

Shellbell0403 · 11/08/2016 13:59

OK so I have just burst into tears in the middle of tesco car park!

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 11/08/2016 14:02

I'm 14 weeks today, and for all the constant nausea and daily sickness has eased I'm still getting the odd really horrible days where I'm throwing up constantly. I got sent home from work again on Tuesday (second day back after my sick leave) because I spent my time either in the bathroom, or eyeing up the bathroom. Sad

Got my nuchal results though yesterday too, and I was slightly concerned that my risk of Downs was 1:3997 which is actually classed as low but with DS was something like 1 in several thousand.
1:50,000 for Edward'/Pateau's

20 week scan is on the 19th September

PianoOnlyTheWhiteKeys · 11/08/2016 14:08

itslittlek and sparkles (happy birthday by the way!) I've noticed the bigger bit of my bump (head) moving from right to centre and yesterday I was wearing some "tight before bump" jeggings and I'm sure it got squeezed upwards. Definitely had those ligament pains too.

Not sure about the bubbles yet, 15+2 today so am on high alert for anything that isn't unwanted gas...

Wonderlust123 · 11/08/2016 14:11

I've already started my Amazon wishlist, but likewise think I'll be keeping an eye on Gumtree and Facebook pages for certain things, kikisdelivery.

I feel a bit odd thinking of buying things now, but I think it makes sense money wise to start now buying bits and bobs month by month.

Got my first baby presents yesterday :) . A beautiful box of clothes and a teddy.

kikisdelivery · 11/08/2016 14:20

Awww shell, I had a meltdown out at dinner with the OH yesterday, because I'm trying to cancel / get a refund on our planned January holiday which now isn't happening.

With hindsight, the agent asking for a Dr's note to confirm I'd be unable to fly is perfectly reasonable. However, yesterday it sent me into hysterics in public because I'd been hoping to get it all sorted, had been on hold for 45 mins and so on. All things which wouldn't have bothered me at all 14 weeks ago!

Ifatfirst, I'm exactly 14 weeks today too Smile. My nuchals came back higher (or is it lower?!) than yours - 1 in 1000 for Down's and 1 in 2000 for Edwards/Patau. I haven't been offered any extra testing and am happy with that level.

Wonderlust123 · 11/08/2016 14:43

Those who've already had kids, does anyone use reusable (cloth) nappies? Are they actually that much cheaper than disposable ones? How do you actually clean them? (Which to be honest is my main concern!)

Ubercorn · 11/08/2016 14:56

I used disposables but I know my local council does a starter pack (or used to) where you get the basic set up nappies and liners. Might be worth looking to see if yours does the same?

Happy birthday sparkles Cake

Are you okay shell?

Ubercorn · 11/08/2016 15:00

Shellbell0403 · 11/08/2016 15:08

Thanks ladies.. I'm ok, just feeling very emotional today for some reason. Was on the phone to DH and came off the phone and started crying. We were only discussing what he wanted for dinner...

Is anyone else feeling like a fuzzy head sometimes?

Happy birthday sparkles

Wonderlust123 · 11/08/2016 17:24

Thanks Uber. My area isn't on the list unfortunately though.

Only just seen your message Sparkles, happy birthday! I hope you're having a lovely day.

tillyann2013 · 11/08/2016 17:41

Hi everyone, can I join please, was a bit wary after all of my symptoms disappeared but after a lovely scan on Monday which showed all being well I feel a little more content. I'm 11+5 today and got the combined test results today as well, 1 in 40,000. I'm forty one next month so very relieved!

ScottishSnowflake · 11/08/2016 17:45

Happy birthday Sparkles CakeFlowers

wispaxmas · 11/08/2016 18:34

Argh, just lost my whole message.

Itslittlek, I can only offer my own experience with dogs and babies, and for me it has been the best thing. As far as jealousy goes, it's just down to making sure the dog doesn't feel that the new addition has adversely impacted their life. If you get one in September they should easily be 7 months by the time baby gets here, so luckily past any mouthing phase, house training, and will have a full set of puppy behaviour classes under its belt. For us, our dog Wispa loves our DD and always has done, but we did make a point of introducing them as soon as we were home, not keeping Wispa contained in another room at any point, making sure we still played with her every day even if for just a couple minutes, and still went on walks as much as possible. And there WERE days it just wasn't possible, but she was never relegated to a lesser position in the family so she has never felt jealous. If anything I think she was grateful for the extra face to lick Grin
