Thread five for the chattiest bunch of preggers ladies you've ever had the pleasure of encountering. We're greeting the second trimester with excitement and apprehension, and lots of questions, humour, reassurance, empathy and advice.

Fourth thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/2684139-february-2017-thread-4-are-we-the-chattiest-bunch-or-what

Anyone heard about the hypno birthing?

jpclarke · 09/08/2016 16:57

Hi all, my scan went well today so I am so relieved baby was moving around, my consultant changed my due date by two days but said that the baby will be delivered in late feb. I am back again in 3 weeks for another scan.

LondonGirl83 · 09/08/2016 17:00

Congrats Diva on the property purchase and Uber on the scan. Sorry if I've forgotten anyone.

Kiki I just did a long hall flight and my consultant prescribed baby aspirin-- you can't get it without a prescription when pregnant but your DH can buy it easily enough for you. It works a a blood thinner to reduce the risk of DVT. He also told me to drink loads and to get up and walk around for 15 minutes every couple of hours. I have work colleagues that have done long haul flights that pregnant for business so I'm sure in fine in general.

If you are going to the US, get travel insurance with medical coverage and make sure it covers pregnancy. After 28 weeks, most standard policies won't so if you go later than you are currently expecting you'll need a special policy.

Lastly, if you are worried about Zika check what types of mosquitoes are native to the area you are travelling to. I'm from Miami (heart of the outbreak) but everyone knew it would happen as the Zika mosquito (Aedes Aedini) is native to Florida. That is the only type of mosquito currently known to transmit the disease but its not just in Florida, it is elsewhere in the US.

Spain has had lots of people travelling back from South America return with Zika (as you'd expect) but as they don't have the right mosquito, its not been transmitted from those people to others unlike in Florida.

Good luck! Despite being from the US, I've never been to Texas but I know some of the cities there and scenery are meant to be great.

Congrats jp

Shell I listened to the natal hypnotherapy CDs last time, found them very relaxing. Don't know if it was because of them but I was not really scared of labour and stayed pretty calm. So much so the midwives didn't believe I was in active labour and wanted to send me home again before finally examining me and finding I was 8cm dilated!

Birth Skills is quite a good book to read as well, lots of practical coping strategies for labour. Again I didn't really call on any of it during labour but I think it helped me feel more calm and in control beforehand so I wasn't scared.

14+5 and I'm bloody massive.

MarjorySunshineDust · 09/08/2016 17:24

Just to clarify I didn't listen to the natal hypnotherapy stuff during labour, just in pregnancy for relaxation. My stress ball remained untouched in my hospital bag too Grin

SkyLucy · 09/08/2016 17:36

Hi Kiki - I'm going to the states when I'll be 20-22 weeks - LA, Palm Springs and Hawaii. MW said it would be fine as long as I wear sexy compression socks! I'm not worrying about zika (perhaps naively?) I'm just desperate for a truly fabulous last holiday with DH! Part of the trip is an AMAZING festival that I managed to get tickets for way back in April....I'm buggered if I'm gonna miss that!!

Dreaming how awful!!
I work with children and there hasnt been a day when I have been rude at work. Shocking. Toughen up??? F€%< off! Very bad skills those people. Try to relax for tomorrow and hopefully they will be nicer than today's people!

I am peeing more than ever and my belly is big. I dont think bump like but fat Sad

I wore my Baby on Board badge today as the train was packed due to strike. Nobody offered me a seat until a man offered me his disabled child' seat. Shocking that nobody else did. I declined Sad The lady that "was asleep" next to him managed to wake up as soon as I found a seat Hmm

Rude

Evergreen17 · 09/08/2016 18:04

Anyone else on first pregnancy around 13weeks just showing a fat belly? Sad

Shellbell0403 · 09/08/2016 18:09

evergreen I'm 13 weeks also but it's only a wee but poking out and rounded at bottom.. I'm struggling with MS again though and getting wee pains x

Evergreen17 · 09/08/2016 18:20

Shell I dont think mine is bump but fat and it also gets big and shrinks throughout the day

Wonderlust123 · 09/08/2016 18:27

Hi Evergreen. Yeh, feeling the same here. 13 weeks, no clear bump, just looking a bit chubby!! And yes, it depends what time of day it is!

Shellbell0403 · 09/08/2016 18:28

Mind you evergreen the only thing that can help with my ms is bad stuff so sitting trying to eat chips just now...

Anyone else feel as though only bad stuff can help ease the MS?

Holly1987 · 09/08/2016 18:34

Mines a bit like yours evergreen. I'm 12+5 and my bump is only really noticeable when I'm naked lol Which obviously I'm not around other people! Confused but the little fat pockets I had above my hips at the front have disappeared as the roundness at the bottom is taking form.

I can't wait to look properly pregnant & proudly show my bump. As soon as I've had my scan and all is ok, I'll be telling the world! This is third time lucky for me (fingers crossed)

SkyLucy · 09/08/2016 18:38

Hi ever - yep, 13 weeks today and simply fat. Pretending it's a bump, but really it's just carbs!

Shell am also struggling with sleeping on left side. Really want to lie on my back at least for a bit. Woke up on my back this morning but not much I can do about it if I move in the night! I'm so conscious of it that it disrupts my sleep!
I have a book on hypno birthing which I'm going to read now as I would like to be that relaxed!!! Marjory did you have pain relief? I always said I'd have all the drugs but now changing my mind.
Congrats jp on your healthy scan!! Smile

SpinALittleFaster · 09/08/2016 19:38

Congratulations on all the scans today.

Welcome scotty. I can't believe the schools are going back already, I'd like my nice quiet commute for a while longer please!

Shell one of my friends is actually looking in to setting up as a hypnobirthing teacher (coach?). She really rated it with her two but did a very basic version from books because it's not really a thing around here. Apparently it's great for helping you to stay in control during the birth rather than panicking when things don't go as planned. I'm going to be her test subject if she goes through with the course :).

jpclarke · 09/08/2016 19:55

Thanks London, I flew on both my previous pregnancies and everything was fine. I had to wear those lovely "comfortable" socks but I was grand. Bring snacks for the plane and drink plenty and you should be fine.

However, Zika and travelling is a whole other thing, I don't know what I would do.

kikisdelivery · 09/08/2016 19:57

London and sky, thanks for your stories on planned travel! I know my question was a bit random / specific!! So it's nice to hear others have travel plans too around 21-24 weeks or so. Apologies if I have missed anyone else who also commented....reading back now!

We went to see that travel system and it was in really good nick, so we went for it Smile - we'll likely replace the cot mattress (not least because the fricking cats have just cuddled into it and covered it in fur) and check over the car seat thoroughly then make a decision on replacing that, too. Other than that, though, it has the buggy bit, all rain covers/brolly, bags and under pram net etc, so it was a real bargain. Very very early purchase, but we decided to snap it up while it was available!

MarjorySunshineDust · 09/08/2016 21:06

sparkles I had gas and air until pushing stage when they took it off me but I didn't feel I needed it then anyway.
Used a tens machine at home for a bit which was quite good but the pads kept coming unstuck!
I found the natal hypnotherapy book and CDs just really reassuring. Simple things like thinking of the pain as a productive feeling, different to the scary pain of breaking a bone or something. I am quite cynical and did roll my eyes at some of the stuff but glad I used them.

I definitely have a bump but it's definitely covered in a delightful layer of fat as well!

Shellbell0403 · 09/08/2016 21:10

Is anyone else on folic acid 5mg? Are u still taking it or stopped?

Also anyone getting achy legs? Lying in bed the now and got achy sore legs xx

Ubercorn · 09/08/2016 21:14

A pillow or rolled towel between the knees helps with that shell. I don't have the achy legs yet but have a lovely 'click' in my pelvis (I think? Bony bit low down at the front?) when I roll over in bed. It doesn't hurt but it sets my teeth on edge in a nails on a chalkboard way.

MarjorySunshineDust · 09/08/2016 21:19

shell my midwife told me to take 5mg up until the scan so I knew I was 12 weeks and then switch to a regular pregnancy multivitamin. Pregnacare makes me sick so just taking vit D and normal dose folic acid now. Worth checking with your midwife as might depend in the reason it was prescribed to you (mine was borderline bmi)

Evergreen17 · 09/08/2016 21:20

Oh dear
I am sleeping in any side I can, is this a problem? Hmm

Ubercorn · 09/08/2016 21:23

I sleep whichever way I can too. It's recommended you sleep on your left, especially in the later stages, because it puts less pressure on your blood vessels and reduces nighttime heartburn/reflux.
