Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
manitz · 22/02/2007 08:30

hiya all, I know what you mean about cramps. I've been getting pain in my cs scar which is a bit worrying and the cm makes me check the loo roll quite a bit, combined with not feeling sick enough it does make me have doubts. Have so long to go b4 first scan so I can only hope it's alright.

ZC I see why you are not sure about it being twins. I'd be the same (I've always wanted twins) although I wonder if you would have changed your mind at the scan whatever? I guess you'll never know - glad you have made your mind up now. When will you get a chance to find out about the two yolks? Another CS then? do you get a tummy tuck this time?

Kittiwake am also veering between no worries to it's all over. no wonder I go mad when I'm pg - although dh admitted I wasn't so bad afterall. Oh hurray.

manitz · 22/02/2007 08:32

sorry zc that didn't make sense. I would be the same in that I would see a twin pg differently to a single as I have always wanted twins and i find it fascinating and sort of miraculous. Hope that makes sense.

WinniethePooh · 22/02/2007 09:24

Morning everyone,

Good luck to thouse of you that have scans coming up.

I wish I was at 12 weeks already (4 1/2 to go) so I could stop feeling really queasy. Not actually thrown up, but wish I could. I have lots of wind instead.

yawningmonster · 22/02/2007 09:41

ok add me to knickers checkers anonymous,
to add to the violent morning noon and night sickness I have just had some spotting as well was (tmi)brown rather than bright but all in all feeling a bit doomy and gloomy about how this preg is going and scared that it is all a sign that it is not meant to be

mandler · 22/02/2007 09:55

Morning everyone! I thought it was just me (or first timers) that have constant underlying panic about it all going wrong. I have had cramps since last weekend, and this killer back pain so of course I fear the worst. Added to that I don't feel at all sick, just starving! Trying to just tell myself that we are all different...
For anyone who was here yesterday, spoke to my boss last night about her random home visit and it turns out it was to talk to me about a promotion - boy do I feel guilty, how can I let them give me more responsibility and keep the pg quiet?

manitz · 22/02/2007 10:04

mandler that's great news. I did wonder if it might be to bring up something you were missing out on at work. didn't say so as didn't want to upset you but thought it might be redundancy, glad to hear its the opposite.

I was told about this product by one of the indy midwives I called. Thought I'd link to it as I'm quite interested and it might interest others who want to avoid tearing. Bit expensive though.

zephyrcat · 22/02/2007 10:06

Manitz that's exactly how I felt Although if it had been single they wouldn't have told me anything at all about the scan so I wouldn't have been here now! (Well, possibly, I was struggling with the decision in the first place!)

Whe do you generally get a booking in appt with the midwife? I can't remember how many weeks it is!

WinniethePooh · 22/02/2007 10:46

ZC, I think it depends on the area you are in as to booking appointments.

I had my booking appointment on Sunday when the midwife came to the house, but I think some other have said that they won't be seeing the midwife until 8 weeks.

mandler · 22/02/2007 10:50

My first midwife appointment isn't until 12 weeks, and is one day before my scan! That's a long way away

Mumpbump · 22/02/2007 11:14

Good morning everyone!!! Well, I got my heartbeat, so to speak this morning, and a blurry picture of a blob to boot! Felt so nervous beforehand and ended up in tears in the waiting room because I was so scared. I cannot tell you how relieved we both are! Chances of the pg being successful have increased from 65% to 97%+ which is a pretty significant increase to my mind... I shall now be officially adding my stats to the stats thread!!

Good luck to MrsMcJnr for tomorrow...

I'm a bit worried that thehairybabysmum hasn't posted following her scan. I hope that she hasn't had bad news...

mandler · 22/02/2007 11:15

HUrrah!!!

gemmamc · 22/02/2007 11:19

That's interesting. I was under the impression that it was routine all over the country for the first midwife appointment and scan to be at 12 weeks for everybody, apart from people who need an early scan if they have problems or a history of m/c....

I am wondering if I should have an early scan, given I had an m/c recently, but haven't tried to arrange it yet. It feels like I have to ask for it as a concession, and it's a shame it's not routine for everybody.

As for mild cramps similar to PMS ones, isn't that normal at this point? I've been having some too, especially in the last couple of evenings, but they are very light, and different from the the ones I had with a m/c...

I did get a bit stressed last night, but now I'm telling myself it appears to be common, from what I understand... is it not because of the uterus starting to expand?

whoopsee · 22/02/2007 11:40

Zephyrcat I have my midwife appointment booked for when I will be 10 weeks so that they can book the 12 week scan (I believe!)
Have you managed to speak to your gp yet so they know to let the midwife know?

zephyrcat · 22/02/2007 11:46

HIya I went to the doc erm... last Friday and she took all my details/numbers etc and said she'd pass them on to the midwife. I was wondering if I should phone the doc and ask to get the midwife to ring me. I hate waiting!!

Last year, when I was pg with dd2, the midwife service was pants - I wasn't even given a due date until gone halfway through the pregnancy!!!

whoopsee · 22/02/2007 11:49

lol - I would have called the docs back by now!
My midwife rang left a message saying they would try again the following week but I tried calling back as soon as I saw the missed call! (I hate waiting too!!)

Mumpbump · 22/02/2007 11:50

Gemma - I think lots of niggles are common at this stage because, as you say, the uterus stretching. I know I am having the odd pain here and there, but no severe cramping... In my area, they like to do the booking-in appointment from 8 weeks onwards, but they're really busy at the moment - apparently there are loads of people due in September and October - the after effects of the festive season, if you ask me!!

greedyforbabies · 22/02/2007 12:29

mumpbump - can i ask, are those percentages you gave general to everyone once a heartbeat has been seen? i am just curious cos i had my scan on monday at 7+4 and saw the heartbeat but i am still having pretty much constant spotting.

fettle - i already knew that about pelvic floors and orgasms! as if i wouldn't hey!!! my dh claims my pelvic floor is fine when i squeeze him from within, if you get my drift!!!!! we will see how it holds up to sneezing after giving birth this time!!!
cant believe you are 9 weeks on monday by the way! its whizzing by, although i am sure you dont feel like that at the moment. i am looking forward to you and mrs both changing your names next week!!!

greedyforbabies · 22/02/2007 12:34

i have just done a search on hairybabysmum and she hasn't posted anything yest or today. hopefully she is just busy with life and hasn't had the time. i really hope so

Mumpbump · 22/02/2007 13:12

Hi Greedy. They are from an article which Uki posted on the pg after m/c thread. It is very technical, but I've put a link to it here.

intellectually challenging for those of us who are pg!

The relevant bit says as follows:

"Fetal cardiac activity had been identified in 90% of the pregnancies by 8 weeks, rising to 98% by 10 weeks. Consequently, by 8 weeks gestation, if a fetal heart beat had been identified, the chances of a successful outcome in a subsequent pregnancy were 98%, climbing to 99.4% at 10 weeks gestation."

Of course, it is not a guarantee and things still go wrong in later pg from time to time, but it does mean you've got through the most risky bit... HTH.

WinniethePooh · 22/02/2007 13:17

I have got the appointment through for my dating scan.

Monday 26th March at 2.45pm.

It is unlikely DP will be able to get the time off to come with me, so I have called parents in law. Asked FIL to collect DD from school that day and MIL to come with me. She was not in at the time, but I am sure she will be thrilled.

Kittiwake · 22/02/2007 13:35

Just been to see my GP - he said he could refer me to the midwife but it would be quicker if I phoned them myself; so I did.

Have to wait now for booking in appt and Scan date. The next few weeks are going to go soooo slowly

Mumpbump - Great news! must be so exciting

I Hope Hairybabysmum is okay too.

beanie2bump · 22/02/2007 13:35

hi guys had to take ds to the doctors, so asked to see doc too,,
told doc about cramps and pain
got told i had a viral infection as does my ds
and that pain couls be to do with that

or possibly pregnancy

i asked about scan she said i could see if epu can give me a earlier scan or wait till tues, ??? although the lady at epu said she likes u to be 8 weeks which i will be on sunday, and it is shut over weekend

i guess ill have to wait till tuesday,,

just thinking the worst and feel just awfull,,,,, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

beanie2bump · 22/02/2007 13:37

also hope Hairybabysmum is ok xxxx

Mumpbump · 22/02/2007 13:49

B2B - why not just go for the earlier scan to put your mind at rest? I think there is nothing worst than not knowing what is going on and just waiting for it all to go wrong. They might prefer to wait until 8 weeks, but I they can definitely do a scan before then. There are people on the pg after m/c thread have had scans at 5 weeks. I guess you might end up having an internal if you go before 8 weeks, but I understand that they are simply a bit uncomfortable. In any event, my fingers are crossed for you (well, metaphorically at least - bit difficult to type with crossed fingers, I find)...

J20BABY · 22/02/2007 13:50

aw beanie hope your ok

i went for an internal scan, and was less than 6 weeks but they could see the hb really clearly, so i don't know why they're making you wait till 8 weeks
