New thread - the one where we stop being pregnant and become new mamas! So close to the end. Exciting!

We are in a similar position. We are going to France to celebrate my 60th which is on Tuesday and DD1 is 37/38 weeks so can't travel. Like your in laws this was booked in November. Admittedly it's not our first GC (second) but I would encourage her to be completely selfish it's what is best for her and the baby which matters. Having said that if she goes into labour early I'll be on the first plane! As your in laws are only going to Spain maybe they could get a cheap flight back if things happen while they are away? Also first babies can take days of niggling to be born (I know there have been some on here in minutes but that's not average!) so you may get a few days notice. Would they / you be terribly upset if they didn't meet the baby the first day? So many new mothers feel overwhelmed by well meaning grandparents (however lovely) that it might get you out of some of the people pleasing if they were away! Not sure this helps but you're not alone in this dilemma!

Here you go pear

jeezy I can't imagine how frightening that must have been, glad you both seem to have come through with no long lasting effects and hope you are home soon.

ellie wait until wed and see how you feel? I had a sweep with all of mine, can't remember now whether it was uncomfortable with DD1, but certainly this time round I didn't find it bad at all, contrary to some others experiences. Mind you, I was thoroughly fed up with being pregnant by last Tuesday...

I am now functioning on a different setting to any previous existence as DS has decided that night time is for cluster feeding for all 3 of his nights so far. I'm hoping it is going to settle once my milk comes in. With my 2 DD they did evening cluster feeding and reasonable stretches of sleep overnight from day one. Hoping we can manage to time shift this little guy soon or I may be broken!

Sophia1984 · 07/08/2016 14:49

Quick update- we stayed in at the hospital for 3 nights as little one wasn't establishing feeding. Had a wonderful BF specialist midwife help us who knew he just needed a bit more time and campaigned against other staff wanting to use nipple shields etc.

Wasn't very pleasant being stuck in there though - hadn't prepared for it at all and couldn't sleep properly. Came home yesterday and both me and baby are more relaxed here. Had some cluster feeding last night, which was tiring but got a good few hours sleep this morning so feeling so much better.

Lou2711 · 07/08/2016 17:14

Congrats to all who have graduated!!

38+2 here and having no symptoms of labour. Pelvis hurts a bit, but she has been 2/5ths engaged for a few weeks, maybe more now (will see what the midwife has to say this week). Anyone else not got many symptoms? I've had such an easy/good pregnancy I think I'll probably suddenly go into labour without having pre-
symptoms. Really hoping to meet her soon but feel like we've still got a few weeks of waiting Sad

Shanster · 07/08/2016 18:44

I'm with you lou, I think I have about 4 weeks ahead of me. I'm booked in for a section on the 22nd, because the baby is breech BUT my older two were both breech and turned head down by 39 weeks....so I fully expect this one to do the same then I'll be hanging about until 41 weeks for my third induction. I'm really uncomfortable today, just got back from ikea and feel really tired. My older two start school tomorrow and the thought of the morning routine to get them to the school bus by 7am is just daunting!!! Work is incredibly busy and I'm starting to run out of steam....which is just not me at all! I'm normally on the go constantly and find it really hard to just sit down. Really wish I could just fast forward to the nice newborn part!!

plimsolls · 07/08/2016 18:47

I'm 37+0 and I think nowhere near showing any signs. Baby isn't engaged at all and I'm just not feeling much different to how I have for past few weeks. I'm looking forward to growth scan on Tuesday, partly for the reassurance but also to get an idea of position, engagement, cord etc. I'm sure any size estimate will be inaccurate but I'm interested all the same.

Lou2711 · 07/08/2016 22:03

It's so annoying isn't it!! I'm willing contractions to begin or some pains to let me know things are heading in that direction! I must sound like a mad woman lol Grin

Dileas29 · 07/08/2016 22:05

40+2 here and good pregnancy all in all with no signs of labour, does that mean it'll come out of the blue with cramps etc or that the baby is no where near ready to make an appearance? Sweep on weds eek

Shanster · 07/08/2016 22:47

I think its pretty miserable because you just have no idea when it might happen. We have to be pretty much 'ready' from about 37 weeks onwards, but acknowledge that it could be anytime in the next 5 weeks? That's just an eternity with all the niggles of late pregnancy! I'm just not a patient person I suppose, but I know I have to prep myself for going late again....it seems inevitable for me!

Slothlikesundays · 07/08/2016 23:14

It's so frustrating! 38+5 here and other than niggly period pain (for the last 3 weeks Hmm) nothing of interest happening. DP going away again in the morning though so having spent all weekend wishing I'd go into labour I'm now legs crossed until Friday because that is exactly how this childbirth thing works!
Is anyone's insomnia getting worse? I was up at 2am. By 4am I was irate at the state of the house and sorting washing out. The dog thinks I've lost my marbles.
Speaking of pets - any ideas how to keep cats out of cots? Obviously keeping the door closed but dp is useless at remembering most of the time and I keep finding our cat curled up in the cot. Shock

Lou2711 · 07/08/2016 23:55

Baby has gone crazy active and it's painful please be a sign
Might see if dtd helps Blush

FourForYouGlenCoco · 08/08/2016 00:03

Hi all, been so useless at posting lately but still reading & thinking of you all!
jeezy God that sounds terrifying, you poor thing. So glad you're on the mend now and hope you're not feeling too traumatised by everything, although it's totally understandable if you are Flowers oh and LOVE the name! We have a baby Jack too! Had never heard of another little Jack - they must be like buses (you wait ages, etc) Grin
sophia great news on the feeding, sounds like you've cracked it. And thumbs up to the midwife!
Dots fingers crossed BabyDots realises that night is for sleeping soon! It's because prolactin (milk producing hormone) is highest at night so they like to make the most of it. Hope it settles a bit once your milk's in.
ellie that is a tricky one! We were in a similar situation, my MIL had a holiday booked (long haul, 2 weeks, 'once in a lifetime' type thing) for when I was 37 weeks or so. She was like "don't have the baby til I get back!" - so of course he arrived while she was away! But luckily it was only a couple of days before, and tbh much as I love my MIL, 2 days post-partum was probably the earliest I'd have seen her anyway. Personally I'd leave the sweep, see what happens and go with the flow. You might manage to invoke sod's law and labour will kick off as soon as they step off the plane in Spain!

Lots of sympathy, commiserations and cake to everyone still pregnant and suffering. Sending lots of loose-cervix vibes through the ether - think expulsive thoughts, everyone!

Hi everyone! 37+2 here and fed up of my body teasing me. Quite a few period type pains and low back ache, with some (sorry if TMI) loose stools for about 4/5 days. But no show or anything else looking like labour Sad

I'm starting to get quite anxious about actual labour now too, things didn't go very well with my DS, he is fine and was fine after he was born but the process was difficult. So I am worried that things will go wrong again. But I can't stand being pregnant anymore - want my body back! So I want the pregnancy over, the baby in my arms, but to sleep through labour Grin that possible?

CheeseandGherkins · 08/08/2016 12:05

Just back from midwife, baby is 4/5 engaged apparently. Not sure if that's 4/5 palpable or 4/5 in my pelvis. I've been feeling more pressure down below and sharp pains so I presume that's why. Everything else was all fine. Growth scan and clinic on Friday where I'll see what my consultant thinks about delivery. Hoping to go naturally before then! Might ask for a sweep and/or cervix check while I'm there.

Going to try and relax a bit while I still can, not sure how easy that's going to be with my 5 children though Grin

MrsZumbaDancer · 08/08/2016 13:32

Bloody show this morning but absolutely no no other signs.. If anything baby feels high and had horrific heartburn overnight! Wil my ds had tightenings before my show then he was born 5 hours later.. No tightenings so far..

Laineypopps · 08/08/2016 13:56

I'll give you all a laugh! Went to beautician to have my 'prep waxing' done on Sat. I am an all off kinda gal so, on suggestion from my beautician, tend to go bare for the 'procedure'. Have been going to the girl a while and I am very comfortable as is she.

So.... Did what she had to do with me on my back then asked me to flip onto all fours to get the rest and as I do I notice a huge lump of jelly like snot on the bed!!!!! I'm thinking 'oh my god, that is my show!' And involuntarily made a wee squeak noise. Girl is immediately worried and I am frantically trying to hide this blob! Had to say to her!! Low and behold, the blob was a ball of hot wax that had dropped on the bed! 😂😂😂😂 never been so mortified in my life!

OohMavis · 08/08/2016 14:09

This last week has hit me like a brick in the face. I am SO tired! And after the false alarm of last week where I thought my waters had popped (they did not) I've been moping about impatient for the baby to come.

I have two weeks left. I need to STOP moping and enjoy what time is left, tired or not. I'm going to go and sit in the garden with my feet in the paddling pool and stop complaining about how uncomfortable I am. I've said it so now I have to do it Grin

Hope you're all well Flowers

AddictedtoGreys · 08/08/2016 16:03

lainey that's brilliant Grin

Shanster · 09/08/2016 00:20

Yeah, love that Lainey....I need to get booked in for a good wax soon too!! My older kids went back to school this morning, its going to be hard getting up so early (for all of us). We need to leave the house at 6.50am, I was exhausted this morning (I even allowed myself 2 strong real coffees) just to get myself going at work :(

CheeseandGherkins · 09/08/2016 13:21

Plimsolls hope the scan goes well today :)

I had an awful night and am exhausted. I was having painful contractions every 2-3 mins all night but nothing happened. They started yesterday lunchtime and I barely got any sleep. By this morning they'd faded out to every 10 mins or so. Did make me realised how scared I am though and am seriously thinking about asking for a section instead of vbac. She doesn't feel like she's in the right position which is worrying me.

plimsolls · 09/08/2016 14:16

Scan all fine- baby is about 50th percentile for everything. Fluid is very much towards the low end of the normal range but nothing to worry about apparently. I thought at one point I saw some Boy Bits (we don't know what we are having) but when I mentioned later on that I'd been trying to have a sneaky look the sonographer said the baby was too big and its legs were closed, implying it wouldn't have been possible to tell. So who knows what I saw. Could have been anything!

cheese I'm sorry you are feeling so scared. Presumably you have got every right to be given a section if you've had one before? I don't have any experience but I do have a firm belief that whatever feels best for the mother is definitely a good thing so if you want an ELCS then you should have one. Do you think you can wait til your consultant appointment on Friday or are things looking a little more imminent than that?

lainey That was funny! I was thinking of going for a wax because I can't see anything down there to do anything myself and I....can't think how to finish this sentence without being gross so I'll stop. Just thinking about post birth clean up related issues. Is waxing very much more painful in late pregnancy?

shanster You sound tired even through your messages. I hope you are bearing up OK.

four I'm impressed you are posting at all, what with a newborn and a toddler! Lovely to hear from you and I'm glad all is well.

zumba any more tightenings?

mavis I hope you're enjoying your paddling pool. My sun lounger and parasol are being delivered this afternoon. Woo hoo!

Hope everyone is feeling alright and you're all managing to endure the waiting. I'm in Day 2 of maternity leave with three weeks til EDD so I've not had a chance to get fed up yet.... won't be long, I'm sure.

OwlinaTree · 09/08/2016 14:54

cheese, I'm having a planned section in part because of my anxieties around birth based on my history (similar to your own history). If you are in any way anxious I would recommend it. You can pm me if you like.

MrsZumbaDancer · 09/08/2016 15:20

plimsolls nope, just the tail end of the show from yesterday. Have not moved a muscle today though as had some dull period pain type cramps in the night and today is mils birthday! So spent much of today watching the only pics whilst ds is at grandmas!

CheeseandGherkins · 09/08/2016 16:31

Glad the scan went well plimsolls. I can request a repeat section yes. Just not sure what I want at all. Getting very fed up with these tightenings now, quite like to get some rest.

Owl thanks, I've pmed you

Mrszumba sounds similar to my night, hope it all kicks off for you!

rumisyum · 09/08/2016 19:37

Lainey that is hilarious! Gave me a good laugh. I'm impressed with you ladies getting waxes, I've been operating an "out of sight, out of mind" policy, so haven't paid any attention to my nethers for months. They're about to come back into sight, though... ShockConfusedBlush

Shanster, just realised I replied to you on the grad thread. Serious case of baby brain over here.
