Hi Derek, glad you decided to join us. Is it all sinking in a bit more now?

I get leg cramps sometimes in the night, they bloody hurt! I have no magical cure I'm afraid

Hi Derek just reading your other thread now too, hope you're coping well.

I'm 24+2 and get leg cramps occasionally, my mw said just to keep hydrated. When they first started i'd jump out the bed and try to flatten my foot on the floor, not to easy now that i'm at whale status but now I try to flex my foot towards my head and that helps ease them.

Today I went to my first preggo yoga class, the Daisy Foundation - anyone tried them? It's a 6 week block and the first class today was free as a taster, i'm going to go back next week I think. Was lovely to just relax and chill out with the babies and other mums, not my cup of tea as normally I don't like group things but it was quite nice.

Mum is coming to visit today with another bag load of clothes from my Gran, she's been gutting out her wardrobe and passing anything remotely floaty or baggy to me. Surprisingly lots of it has been quite nice and age appropriate! I'm impressed.

EvangelineP · 10/07/2016 15:27

I've just started with leg cramps at 24+3. Staying really well hydrated makes a huge difference as does the prenatal yoga class.

Northernlight22 · 10/07/2016 16:47

Our nursery furniture arrived yesterday - we went for the Darlington cot bed from mothercare and I was suprised how easy it was to put together as reading the reviews I thought it would be a nightmare!

Starting to feel really real now our nursery is 80% done!!

Not been on here for ages, just been having a catch up Smile I'm 27 weeks on Wednesday, it's flying by now! Just come back from holiday in turkey, was nearly 40 degrees some days but was fine, just had lots of water and kept cool. And got engaged!!! Grin Had a bit of a bad tummy for the last day and a few days when I got back sorry tmi. Thought it might just be dehydration or maybe a bit of a bug. Baby is kicking all the time (or punching, I can't tell haha), he had a bit of a jump when the plane landed which was quite funny. Planning on finishing work on 22nd sept (due 12th oct) but am cutting down to 4 days from August. I'm a hairdresser so just going to see how I go the further along I get, but have been fine so far, fingers crossed. GTT booked for Wednesday Sad

Hi Derek, I found out a few months in with my previous pregnancy and that was quite a shock (most memorable scan ever!), can't imagine getting my head round it this far though. I get leg cramps a lot and have always had bad circulation. I usually roll out of bed and walk around a bit, handily I can combine it with a loo trip which helps as I have stone floor tiles in there. April I have just booked on a pregnancy course with the daisy foundation too. Is it any good? I am using hypnobirthing again and thought it might work well plus I need to do more exercise as seriously struggling this time. 27+2 here and have finally started making some lists. I love a good list!

April241 · 10/07/2016 20:53

SaraC8 congratulations on your engagement!

Havetobecrazytolivehere yeah I enjoyed it, we had 10 in our group and we started with a quick intro - just name/how many weeks you were/if you had other kids and then got started. Learned a breathing technique which is good for stressful situations and early labour, done some floor work and standing work all mainly focusing on breathing and movements that would help early stages of labour. I'm most likely going to be sectioned so I messaged the instructor beforehand and she said to come along still and the yoga/relaxation would really help combat pregnancy related problems, plus theres still a good chance i'll go into early labour myself so would still get good use out of the classes. When do you start them?

Blueskygirl30 · 11/07/2016 09:51

I tried some yoga pregnancy classes but the instructor wasn't very good and I didn't go to the last couple in a course of 5 as it felt like a waste of time. Having said that, I've found myself using some of the poses I learnt in the class when I get back ache. I've also just bought a pregnancy yoga dvd as I can't find any other classes around me.

I've started getting occasional leg cramps in bed now, normally when I stretch out my calf will cramp up but if I immediately flex my foot it seems to go away.

Derek just had a look at your thread too, bloody hell, what a surprise! You'll see on this thread that some people (like me) have gone out and bought a whole load of stuff already but others haven't bought much at all, so you don't need to start worrying about looking at baby stuff for a few weeks yet. Hopefully talking about it on here and in RL with your family will help it slowly seem more real for you. Also, I desperately wanted a baby and had been trying for a little while but still have moments where I wonder whether this was the right decision. If you're feeling a bit like that in your situation then it is totally normal, don't feel like you're supposed to feel one way or the other.

LillianFullStop · 11/07/2016 10:41

I've been getting those cramps too - foot isn't as bad as calf cramps. The calf cramps tend to stay sore for a day. Also the morning ones are worse than the evening ones as I don't appreciate being rudely woken up by intense cramping Sad

25+1 today and I have my GP antenatal check and whooping couch vaccine booked for this afternoon. hope the GP will know what to check as I was just told by the midwife to book an appointment with 'your GP' - who knows what is meant to happen. I think blood pressure, urine sample and bump measurement? Hoping to get my MAT1B form too.

April241 · 11/07/2016 11:39

Morning all,

I had to phone in sick today, was up most of the night but the absolute worst heartburn, pain was radiating all through my chest/back and up my jaw. In the end I got a few hours sleep propped almost upright with pillows and my pregnancy pillow but that just caused my hips/back more pain. Felt like a total fraud phoning in and saying to work I couldn't come in because of heartburn, I bet they're all right pissed off at me and having a good laugh about it :(

LillianFullStop really?! Let us know it goes, i've never seen my GP at all, the midwives have done my checks and I went to the practice nurse for my whopping cough vaccine. I got my MATB1 form from the mw at 22 weeks too, they don't measure my bump as there's no point, would be funny to see off the scale I am though.

Figgygal · 11/07/2016 14:24

I have 28 wk apt tomorrow must remember to get my MatB1 I also unfortunately have an injection in my bum to look forward to as am Rhesus Negative and baby is positive. I am feeling so fat today and bloated I don't see how I can get much bigger but still 12 weeks to go.

april I am doing Daisy too enjoying it about to sign on for another term.
Hope you feeling better!!

bought my first baby item today .............some moses basket fitted sheets woooooo get me!!

ShakespeareanQuotations · 11/07/2016 17:23

I'm 25 weeks tomorrow.
I put off joining this group until after the scans and then the last thread just got too long for me to keep up.

This is a very much planned and wanted pregnancy, but I seem to be so behind when it comes to preparations.

This will be my sixth child and I've only bought a couple of fitted Moses basket sheets and a pack of bodysuits so far.

Derek I found out in the same way as you that I was 22 weeks pregnant with my second child. Huge shock as my DS was only 8 months old at the time. It's great that your DS is excited. Yours will seem like such an incredibly short pregnancy now and I hope that when it sinks in, you can start to look forward to your new child.

SchnitzelvonKrummsverylowtum · 11/07/2016 18:05

Shakespearean I'm also 25 weeks tomorrow, and I've bought nothing so far. I have an exam on the 3rd August and I'm planning on digging out DS's clothes after that and working out what I need. I know I'm going to need a new car seat for DS, and nursery furniture. I'm hoping to avoid buying a double pushchair.

DS has been ill with a chest infection and hasn't been sleeping, and I've now got a cold, so I'm feeling very sorry for myself. I finally got a physio appointment through but it's for tomorrow and I'm on a course with work I can't rearrange, so I've been trying to get through to the hospital all day with no luck.

LillianFullStop · 11/07/2016 18:45

April I hope the heartburn has eased up today!

GP appointment was as routine as it got. Basically urine sample, blood pressure and uterus measurement. The doctor seemed like she was quite familiar with the format of the maternity notes and just wrote the details in there. Got my MAT1B certificate and that was that! Took all of 10 minutes I think!

Went into get my whooping cough vaccination from the nurse right after.

I haven't bought anything yet either but looking to get the pram in the next couple of weeks as it's the only thing we are pretty much decided on so far!

Kariana · 12/07/2016 07:33

I had never heard about having the whooping cough vaccine till yesterday at my midwife appointment so funny to come here and find everyone talking about it. I've got mine booked in now.

April that heartburn sounds awful, I hope it's eased up a bit now.

Anyone else getting heart palpitations? I get them every evening, feels like my heart misses every third or fourth beat and the doctor is referring me for a 24 hour ECG now. I'm sure it's pregnancy related but it's quite scary when it happens.

HobnobDunker · 12/07/2016 15:32

Hello all, I've been lurking for quite a while now and hope you don't mind me joining you; my due date is 8th October!
I feel like I've had every symptom under the sun but my main ones at the moment are swollen ankles and indigestion/heartburn. I've got a prescription for Gaviscon waiting for me at the GPs as it's starting to get expensive the rate I'm getting through it!
So far I've not really bought anything apart from a teddy Blush but I'm making it my mission to start getting the basics- vests/ sleepsuits/ muslins etc over the next week or so. I was planning on buying 0-1 month clothes instead of newborn- does this sound like a good idea? And then some 0-3 months as well. This will be my first DC and I have no nieces/nephews/friends with babies so it's all new to me!

SchnitzelvonKrummsverylowtum · 12/07/2016 15:46

Welcome hobnob. DS was born at 37+5 and even newborn clothes swamped him. My suggestion would be to buy a couple of things in newborn, a couple in 0-1 month and a couple in 0-3, leave the tags on the smaller stuff and if it's too small take it back. We had to send my mum on an emergency Mothercare run the day DS was born to get tiny baby clothes!

Also - I found that sleeveless bodysuits were the easiest to put on and take off, and the vests with sleeves just ended up getting all bunched up under the sleepsuits. If it's cold just use blankets or cardigans.

Afreshstartplease · 12/07/2016 17:35

On the other hand my ds2 was born at 38+1 and I couldn't get him in newborn clothes at all ....

OP posts:
SchnitzelvonKrummsverylowtum · 12/07/2016 17:56

I just think it doesn't hurt to have some stuff in a range of sizes, as until they arrive you have no idea what will fit! DS was swamped by newborn stuff until he was about 4 weeks old, then flew through the sizes, while a friends DS was in 0-3 from birth!

HobnobDunker · 12/07/2016 18:24

Ok thanks both, I'll get a few in newborn and then can always send DH out for more if needed. Wouldn't it be lovely if we knew in advance exactly how much the baby would weigh?

Kariana · 12/07/2016 18:31

That's helpful Schnitzel, I'm on my first baby too and was wondering about clothes sizes. How much did your DS weigh at birth? The new born sizes I've seen say up to 7.5lbs but that doesn't seem that big as everyone I know who's had a boy had a bigger baby than that!

Afreshstartplease · 12/07/2016 18:46

My first (boy) was 7lb 9, he fit in newborn briefly

Third was squashed in up-to 10lb stuff although she was only 8lb6

This time I've got one pack of up-to 10lb 1 month stuff and the rest 0-3

I think I'd find it really strange if I had a like 7lb baby this time!

OP posts:
SchnitzelvonKrummsverylowtum · 12/07/2016 18:50

DS was 6lb 11, but as I said he was slightly early.

This time I'm going to dig out the tiny baby and newborn stuff DS had, which was mostly unisex, and buy a few bits in newborn and 0-3 as we know we're having a girl.

One of my best buys with DS was a tuppence and crumble star suit - much easier than buttoning a baby into a snow suit/pram suit and can be worn in the car seat, which you can't do with snow suits and pram suits.

Afreshstartplease · 12/07/2016 19:36

Just ordered one of those star suits! How cute!
