I've never done any ante natal classes, I was 19 when first pregnant and the funny looks at scans were enough to put me off (still get mistaken for under 18 now at 28 so you can imagine the looks back then)

However I've managed fine

Don't think I was offered any with DC2 or 3 and def not this time around

Weight wise I haven't a clue as I don't own scales, weight is never something that's been mentioned in previous pregnancies either so no idea what I put on or not. I've never measured big or small even though babies have been LGA

Oh no Tallblue I have had a dull ache in my coccyx for weeks and some pain around pubic bone. My right hip plays up anyway (cycling accident 13 years ago :-( ) Boo, really don't want SPD. Oh well, guess it would be worse if it was winter now - sun helps the aches and pains.

Figgy I discovered Daisy birthing the other day. Looks good, is it expensive?

EnoughAlready999 · 05/07/2016 15:04

What's LGA Fresh?

Afreshstartplease · 05/07/2016 15:10

Large for gestational age

Hi ALL, not been I line much but good to read about everyone.
I'm 26 weeks tomorrow, due on Oct 12th. I'm working up until I'm over 37 weeks then have 3 weeks annual leave.
We are doing NCT in August which I'm looking forward to, I don't know many people in my area so I'm hoping to make friends. Anyone got any advice about how to break the ice with the group?
I think we are going to get an Uppababy Cruz, we live in London in a narrow house so want something compact. I'm keeping an eye on Gumtree for a bargain.
DH and I are off to France for a week as we are going to a wedding, just tried on a load of my summer clothes and they seem to still fit which has saved me a fortune! I'm worried I'm going to be too hot though, I notice I feel so much warmer than I used to on the tube.
Anybody else getting leg cramps? Any hints on how to stop them?

Northernlight22 · 05/07/2016 21:43

26 weeks tomorrow here too - can't believe it!

Nursery is nearly decorated (a few spare weekends helped!), pram is ordered and the cot is arriving any day now so we're pretty organised.

So far, I've only gained 1lb but I did have a high BMI so not unexpected - I've put on about 4lbs in the last 2 weeks. Had ketones in my urine last week though so I've been told to eat more which I'm definitely doing.

Glucose Tolerance Test came back clear which was good news too so all in all everything's going well Smile

Northernlight22 · 05/07/2016 21:51

Lisa - 16th Sept is the last day at work for me too, counting the days now!

Teagirl - snap on the pram, we've gone for a pioneer too

Blueskygirl - GTT wasn't as bad as I expected. You can't take your own lucozade and luckily our hospital had comfy chairs that you could recline. Definitely take a book or plenty mags as its boring waiting 2 hours in a chair!

enough - I'm booked on the regular NHS antenatal classes but they don't start til September so still a while away.

EnoughAlready999 · 05/07/2016 22:05

Positivity if I get leg cramps in my calf I stretch it tilting my foot up (opposite to pointing toes) or I massage it quite firmly and it seems to go. Only had it twice so far thank goodness.

AngharadTheSplendid · 06/07/2016 04:23

Yes to almost being at the weight I was full term last time with this pregnancy, eeek.

26 weeks and I've just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes again, so my diet is super strict now. Oh the joys of pregnancy!

Afreshstartplease · 06/07/2016 07:17

25 weeks today! Luckily still going relatively quickly for me so I hope that continues

Got pram and carseat yesterday oh and a couple of those thick milk bibs. Would like to get steriliser sorted this week too.

I've gained just over a stone but I was very slim to start with. I was getting worried it was going on too fast so glad some others have put on similar amounts. My bump is huge though and I haven't been in my ordinary clothes since week 14 so amazed at those who can still fit into theirs. Everything is maternity now, apart from a few floaty tops I had (I say everything - two dresses, one pair jeans and two pairs leggings is everything I've bought, I spend a lot of time washing and wearing the same clothes!)

The Pioneer looks lovely, I knew I'd end up seeing others I liked after I bought one. Just hope the one I've gone for works out okay.

I'm not getting leg cramps but I get the most horrendous restless legs if I sit with my legs up and also when I'm trying to sleep. It's awful. I used to get it a bit but now it keeps me awake at night and some evenings I could cry with frustration. I know I should probably do more exercise but to be honest on the days I am active it's actually no better. Anyone else suffering, or have a cure?!

Tomkat79 · 06/07/2016 08:47

Kariana the urbo 2 is fab, you'll love it!

Tomkat79 · 06/07/2016 08:49

Positivity the group leader will break the ice at the Nct meets so don't worry. Wishing you a good group, our was half and half and a big group divide now! Gentle parents v Gina ford lol

EnoughAlready999 · 06/07/2016 09:40

Ooh and which were you Tomkat?!

Does anyone like the Mamas & Papas Luna or Sola prams? I mainly want something with a nice pattern! And not too bulky, good for narrow pavements.

Tomkat79 · 06/07/2016 14:41

Ha enough Im in the gentle group. No offence to anyone who will follow Gina Ford but it's not for us.

Figgygal · 06/07/2016 17:19

enough I'm enjoying daisy birthing we do mixture of breathing techniques with some movement and then some chat which is more like antenatal classes was £67 for 6 sessions but I'm happy enough with it going to do another term.

I've put on 1.5 stone now have MW next week I expect she will have something to say and my BP will be through the roof due to house stress I know that already based on how wound up I am.

My friends religiously following Gina ford with her new baby we were lucky with ds that we fell into a schedule which worked without having to enforce anything hopefully we will get lucky again

positivity123 · 06/07/2016 22:09

I thought we had to call her 'she who must not be named' on Mumsnet? Grin im looking forward to NCT so I'll let you know how I get on. I managed to get the uppababy from Gumtree today which I'm delighted about
kariana no advice about restless legs but sending sympathy as that sounds horrid

Tealeaf321 · 06/07/2016 23:58

27 weeks on Friday.
I've put on nearly 3 stone which I know is ridiculous but I swapped fags for food so not sure i was expecting anything less.
Getting horrible aches in lower back which is shooting down my legs making it difficult for me to stand or walk sometimes. Also terrible heartburn and feeling really uncomfortably full and fat, struggling to catch a breath sometimes as I feel like my fat/ baby belly has taken over my lungs. Also struggling majorly with anxiety, waiting to see mh team for that also still waiting to hear back for appointment for antenatal classes.
Looking at the icandy peach but so expensive for the whole system, if anyone could reccomend a cheaper alternative because we have fallen in love with it.
Haven't really brought anything yet as just don't know where to start or what the essentials really are.

Figgygal · 07/07/2016 06:40

Tea essentials see somewhere for it to sleep, car seat to get baby home clothes and nappies that's it!! I'm still not bought much other than couple pack of bodysuits but made a list now at least

Blueskygirl30 · 07/07/2016 09:01

I'm 27 weeks tomorrow and have put on 8kg so far, I started with a highish BMI so was hoping to put on no more than 10kg but that seems fairly unlikely now! I've been putting on 0.5kg a week for the past 4 weeks so I'm really hoping that doesn't continue for the rest of the pregnancy!

Tea we loved the iCandy Peach too and ended up buying it, there are a few of them on eBay for about half the retail price if you're set on that system but don't want to spend so much. I do agree it's rather expensive for a pushchair, I just hope we love it as much once were using it as we did when we bought it!

Can anyone recommend any first time parent books? I'm thinking of getting the Gina Ford book to read over and then planning on using my own judgement along with tips from the book. Although since this is my first, I may well end up finding that her super strict routine works for us and the baby. Just wondered if anyone else has read a book that they really liked.

MrsMKJ · 07/07/2016 10:04

Hello ladies, lovely to find an October thread! I'm 26+4 and haven't a sausage bought or ordered. Do you think I'm mad? It seems so early in my head, and I feel a bit cautious about buying anything in case anything goes wrong. Hmm
Has anyone got any other suggestions than NCT? I had booked a course which has been cancelled because the teacher isn't very well and there's a real shortage in my area now. How do I go about finding an NHS course? Not due to see midwife until 29 weeks so don't want to leave it that late if possible.
Thanks all, X

octoberbundle · 07/07/2016 14:14

Hi all! 25 weeks today, was exhausted at the start of the week so attempting to take things a little easier. Really need to stop reading horror birth stories though as am starting to freak out.

Has anyone bought a car seat yet? I'm liking the lie flat options but am being so indecisive at the moment, everything seems like a huge decision! Haven't settled on a pram yet either so any other recommendations appreciated!!

BadlyWrittenPoem · 07/07/2016 17:14

MrsMKJ I bought a cot in one of my pregnancies a week before my baby died. I'm glad I did as we've used it for subsequent babies and it means it's something they've shared just like my subsequent babies have used things from my first baby. There's a very low chance of your baby dying now and buying stuff won't change that.

Kariana · 07/07/2016 19:11

Tea we ended up going for a personal shopping appointment at Mamas and Papas to help us make some decisions, although we did nearly go to one of their demonstration days instead. Their stuff is expensive but there is a half price sale on their furniture until the 10th July so we bought a set. We also ended up getting our pram/pushchair/car seat system from there and the lady gave really good advice and demonstrations and wasn't pushy about selling at all. We chose the Urbo2, which I really like even though I was worried I'd made a hasty decision. It was cheaper than the icandy but has a lot of similarities looking at them. Might be worth doing something like that, I'm sure other shops do the appointments too.

EnoughAlready999 · 07/07/2016 20:03

BlueSkyGirl30 I wouldn't bother with Gina Ford unless you really think you need a routine early on. With my first I just went with it and followed my instinct. With this one (my 2nd) the baby will just need to fit in, ie. be bundled up in the car seat twice a day to pick up DD from school and feed/sleep in between. I hope we'll fall into some kind of routine but not too worried as long as breastfeeding goes well.
