Thanks for the advice re next-to-bed cribs.

clank2 · 31/07/2016 14:50

nickname that is too late, I would be asking for b12 injections, the range is from 150 - 1000 so you are way under, mine was 112 adn I've been told this is really bad. x

clank2 · 31/07/2016 14:50

not too late...too low

ChatterNatterer · 31/07/2016 15:17

April we have recently bought a Hyundai Tuscon as it was higher up for my back issues, a big nice boot and rear seat room - def worth a look as we found them so well priced too Smile

ChatterNatterer · 31/07/2016 15:18

We've gone for a standard crib next to the bed - wondering if I'll regret not getting a co sleeper :/

EnoughAlready999 · 31/07/2016 16:31

I just had a Moses basket last time Chatter but did fall asleep holding her a few times after feeding so would rather have this one right beside me and so I can lie down and feed. The Snuzpod looks good, on offer at Toys R Us too.

Afreshstartplease · 31/07/2016 17:06

Two of mine just had Moses. We tried DC2 with a wooden crib and he hated it so then ended up in a Moses too.

Moses basket this time too!

Hi. We just got a snuzpod. Beware that the Toys r us offer doesn't include the mattress so combined it still works out at £169 so the same price as most places.
DH and I went to babys r us today and I've never felt so out of my depth in my life. We both stood in the shop like rabbits in the headlights so we left. We also went to Ikea and got loads of stuff for the nursery then to a big tesco and got clothes, nappies etc so feel more prepared but totally exhausted!!! Still need to get a car seat that goes on an upababy.
Can anyone recommend a breast pump? I'm going to breastfeed and I've started leaking a bit already. I want an electronic one. What should I buy?
This baby thing isn't cheap is it?

Afreshstartplease · 31/07/2016 17:17

Not cheap at all!

I remember when I was expecting DC1 NY first trip to babies r us and seeing all the prices! But really you don't have to get all the expensive stuff. Shops always have lovely cot set ups etc but in reality even if you buy it all its unlikely you would be bothered setting it up like that all the time!

We have a £60 cot from when we had dd and it's in perfect condition so will use that again. Had a new mattress delivered for it. The only really big expense has been pram and carseat but TBH I got a good deal there and paid £422 for both. The price of icandys etc makes my eyes water!

I'm also leaking a bit!

We have a Philips avent breast pump that I got on with well. DS had latch problems so I expressed exclusively for about 6 weeks before we got BFing going properly. I think the recommendation is generally to establish BFing before trying to express and introducing bottles, so it's probably something you can wait to buy. However our first day home from hospital I couldn't get DS to latch on, so DH ending up doing an emergency Mothercare run while I waited at home feeling like my boobs were going to explode as my milk had come in and I couldn't get DS to feed!

Northernlight22 · 31/07/2016 19:37

Moses basket here - I was tempted by the bedside cribs but couldn't justify the cost.

I got a mam hand breast pump with a steriliser and bottles - thought I best see how I get on with it first before I spend too much on kit.

SchnitzelvonKrummsverylowtum · 31/07/2016 19:49

I had a hand pump too, but found it really hard work. I was really lucky and found that I managed to express enough for two babies quite a lot. I've had a few friends who have really struggled with expressing, and couldn't get much at all. I certainly wouldn't want to exclusively express again, it was exhausting, and I think it would probably be even more difficult with a toddler to look after as well.

I think I need to start getting organised pretty soon - I need to dig out DS's clothes, car seat, snuzpod etc, as well as painting the babies room and getting the carpet cleaned and buying new nursery furniture. It's felt like I have ages to get things ready, but a friend has her baby 5 weeks early recently, and that's made me think I need to get a move on! Though I need to get Wednesday's exam out of the way first!

Kariana · 01/08/2016 08:10

I'll be getting a moses basket too as soon as the move is done.

MIL hinted yesterday at buying us something for the baby (one of the big things I mean) which is lovely of her, however she does have slightly odd taste so I'm worried about what she might choose. I should probably stop being so ungrateful shouldn't I!

On another note I am in an incredible amount of pain in my lower abdomen. It started on Saturday and hasn't gone away since. My hips also hurt, not in a SPD what but more in a achey way. It's as if I'm carrying a giant weight in my lower abdomen, which obviously I am but up until I woke up Saturday it wasn't causing pain, now I stagger around for a minute after I stand up because it all hurts so much. Anyone else getting that sort of pain? I spent quite a bit of time yesterday worrying my waters were leaking but I think I'm being paranoid and baby is kicking away in there so I'm taking that as a good sign. Pregnancy is more worrying than I expected!

ShakespeareanQuotations · 01/08/2016 08:36

April We had a Vauxhall Mokka as a courtesy car for 3 weeks. The back seat was not very spacious. We could only really fit 2 children in it as the middle seat was really narrow. DS uses a Maxi Cosi Priori XP and he didn't have much leg space.

The boot was tiny considering the size of the car. We put DS's Baby Jogger City Mini in the boot and there was only enough space left for a couple of carrier bags when we went clothes shopping. We were really disappointed as it looked great, and DH loved driving it, but just wasn't very practical for carrying children and the stuff that goes with them.

I said at the time that it would be a great car if you only had 2 children, but older children with no need for prams/strollers.

Figgygal · 01/08/2016 09:04

When DS agree the Moses basket he went straight into his own room that was it 12 weeks I absolutely hated it DH insisted I've had a conversation with him this morning about the same and he's saying that will just do that again but I'm still not happy with it really need to research other options. I really thought I hadnt bought that much but combined with what I've bought and the stuff my mum gave me last weekend from my nephew I'm busting at the seams of up to 1 month and 0 to 3 months clothes woops

I weighed myself this morning really wish I hadnt I'm only 2lb shy of 2 stone again I put on three last time and I said I wasn't going to do that again but clearly haven't been behaving myself as is evident by the pizza bag of Haribo and chips I had on Saturday night. I'll be really cross with myself after the baby has come and I'm still carrying the weight.

TaffetaMuttonfudge · 01/08/2016 09:24

Is anyone else getting really tingly nipples? Mine feel like they're about to fall off. Can't remember this from DS1, but it was 4 years ago.

April241 · 01/08/2016 14:02

shakespearan thanks, will take that off the list! We defo need a big boot and space in the back seat, one less to look at!

obsessedlex · 01/08/2016 14:36

Figgygal
Just a thought for your too long bed - not sure how handy your OH is but mine cut about 4 inches off my DD's cabin bed that didn't fit and we also cut some off the mattress and now its perfect - still long enough to look and feel like a normal single...... just a thought.

EnoughAlready999 · 01/08/2016 15:40

Figgy Why is it up to DH when DS goes into his own room? My DP wouldn't get to decide and as we only have a 2 bed house this one's gonna be with us until we move/get an extension as I can't make an 11 year old share with a baby.

SchnitzelvonKrummsverylowtum · 01/08/2016 16:14

April we have a jeep renegade which is a similar sort of size - plenty of room in the back for two car seats and the front seats don't have to be pushed way forward. Our bugaboo buffalo fits in the boot with room for some shopping, and when out with a friend I've managed to get the buffalo in with an icandy peach as well. Might be worth a look - we bought ours new as they had dealer deposit contributions so worked out quite well for us.

Figgy I'm not sure I would be happy with a 12 week old in their own rom either to be honest. Could you get a crib/do-sleeping crib? We have the snuzpod, but the Chicco ones looks good too. Or I think you can hire a bednest from the NCT.

daydream86 · 01/08/2016 17:26

hello all just thought I'd come out in the open as a bit of a long time lurker Grin I have posted in the past here in the early days but very sporadically!!
here's me stats:
edd 7th October, first baby
30+3 with a pink kicky hiccupper

really enjoying my pregnancy
so far as things have been -fingers crossed- straightforward. enjoying buying tonnes of stuff! savings pot dwindling...haha

I think I had a braxton hicks in morrisons earlier. was walking along with my trolley when all below my belly button went really tight and
uncomfortable and stopped me in my tracks, for about 20 seconds. only Happened the once. It could have been baby doing an epic 360 degree slo-mo roll though. sorry if it's been covered already but has any body else experienced that?

Newmum90 · 01/08/2016 18:13

Hi all,

So im out of the hospital after my broken waters scare
Booked in for bi weekly hospital checks now and work have told me to take a week to decide what to do with myself re mat leave which should give me a bit of time to pack hospital bag and get house organised for our move in a fortnight. My boss was a godsend and said "go home, watch homes under the hammer and iron your baby clothes!" So its great to have such support and understanding from my colleagues :)

We havent sorted out a crib or moses basket yet so was interested to read others preferences. So glad to have the week to think about it all in case i do go early now. X

Afreshstartplease · 01/08/2016 18:32

Good to see you are home and resting Newmum

I plan to keep baby in with us until he sleeps through the night or no longer fits in the Moses basket. The basket I got is a fairly large one so hopefully won't outgrow it too soon but cannot fit a cot in our room and don't want to buy a crib because was such a waste with DC2. TBH this Moses is easily as big as a crib.

kariana over this weekend my bump has felt really heavy and achey, I caught myself carrying it with my hand once or twice lol. Some babies I've seen online born at 28-30 weeks are weighing in at like 3ish lb. I think mine could easily be this size already as I'm measuring ahead and previous babies have been on the bigger size so I think it's down to the weight of the baby catching up with me.
