*mat leave lol!

Figgygal · 28/07/2016 21:24

Welcome knit!!

Last time I was in mat leave DH was self-employed so we lived in a lovely little bubble this time he currently works 6 miles away so we could meet up or he can nip home but his employers are talking about moving somewhere 20 miles away which would be a right pain as he had planned to the majority of the drop-offs DS going to school whilst I was at home while I would pick up he was also going to do them when I went back to work BUT they have said they will be as flexible as he needs and offer homeworking 1 to 2 days a week which could work out really well.

As he works for a small company he doesn't want to take shared leave so We planning for 12 months Maternity which will see DS through his first year of school and the summer holidays before he goes into year one September 17. I have to say I'm not looking forward to the year off work I find a lot of my socialising, self-esteem and challenge comes from work will be strange.

clank2 · 28/07/2016 21:53

Hello, ladies, I see you all talking about due dates. Mine were:
1st baby... 11 days over
2nd baby...7 days over
3rd baby...15!!!! frickin days late

I know it sounds awful and selfish, but I would be really happy if this baby was born at 37 weeks. My body is not coping at all well. From previous experience...it seems obvious this will not be the case!

Hey does anybody else feel like all the air is being squeezed out of their lungs when they have braxton hicks? I get A LOT of braxton hicks. Also, my baby seems to be very violent and not ever sleep. This does not bode well!

So I had to go back again to GP as still the chronic diarrhoea, and now also extreme nausea as well. Spent all day yesterday between bed and toilet. Nightmare. My GP is just terrible, I won't go into it all but I have very little faith, at one point with her trying to guess if I had a chest infection (wth, no I haven't and who cares, I'm here because this tummy trouble is ruining my life?!) Basically in the end I had to tell her what I thought it could be, and what I wanted to happen.

Blood tests showed I have an infection somewhere. They also showed low B12 and that I need to have a course of 5 injections over the next 5 weeks...which will be interesting considering the last time I tried to get a nurses appointment they didn't have any for 4 weeks... Anyway, the low B12 explains why I have absolutely no energy aside from being ill all the time, and is also concerning as my levels have always been good before so the diarrhoea is obviously affecting my absorption of nutrients..

So now for more tests, more samples and just hope that everything is ok with baby! 4 more weeks of work...cmon clank2, you can do this! (I so dont want to do this any more sob)

I haven't posted for ages - am better at keeping up with the fb group. Blush

Age 32 (birthday is mid-October so if he's late I might be 33 at birth)
First baby
Due 9 October
It's a boy.

I'm having a week off from 8 August and then using annual leave to take every Monday and Friday off until I go on mat leave on 26 September at 38 weeks. I thought it would be more manageable to basically go down to part time, rather than take a big chunk off and bore myself to death.

I have an extra scan at 34 weeks because of my BMI: when I mentioned to my midwife she says that means she won't even bother measuring the bump because it's less accurate. Which I was a bit miffed at, as I would have liked SOME information at 28 weeks rather than nothing!

April241 · 28/07/2016 22:27

positivity thanks :) pain depends on the day, some days I can't get on or off the couch or turn in bed without being in absolute agony, other days it just niggles and I can get through it. Such an annoyance, I'm worried it won't go away when babies are here!

I've really struggled to find multiple birth support groups in my area. There used to be a TAMBA group but it looks like it's been discontinued now which is a real shame. I've just been trying to find forums really to talk to people in and I'm on the TAMBA Facebook page so I see some good posts there. My Gran had twins but her experience is so different from how it is now so I can't really ask much. I'm seeing my consultant every two weeks now though so we just save up any questions and ask him then, we're getting there :)

Welcome knit!!

I haven't had my bump measured at all, at my 16 week appt the mw felt my tum and wrote in my notes I was equal to dates, then at my next 22 week appt the mw laughed at it and wrote "twin pg" and explained I won't be equal to dates at all so they won't bother measuring me. I think the first mw was newly qualified so I felt a bit bad for her >

Kariana · 28/07/2016 23:36

Fresh I'm glad it's not just me finishing so soon! Technically the first 11 day is normal leave so mat leave starts around 23rd depending which days I do next week.

My nhs classes start first week of Sept for 5 weeks so it really pushes to my due date. Dh is convinced baby will be here 2 weeks early but I think that's just wishful thinking!

I seem to have a bruised belly button today. Anyone else have this? Not sure if it's because I forgot I was pregnant and flopped onto the bed on my belly earlier! (I had my hands down luckily so didn't bump that hard.) It doesn't actually hurt to press though like a normal bruise which makes me wonder if the vigorous kicking from the baby has bruised my insides instead.

Afreshstartplease · 29/07/2016 07:04

My first day of mat leave is 22ND so roughly the same as you Kariana

Yoga was lovely yesterday - so was my cheesecake treat after Blush - my fanjo and hips are however sore today, bloody SPD!

LisaTheSimpson · 29/07/2016 11:40

Hi everyone,

Another bad person here who lurks a lot but is not good at posting regularly, sorry!

For the stats bit (thanks to whoever suggested this and said they would do a list):

Age: 29
EDD: 3rd Oct
First baby
Sex: surprise
Mat leave: technically at 40 weeks, but taking two weeks of leave before, so finishing work on 16th Sept.
Health: have a blood disorder which means I'm more prone to clotting, but haematologist has discharged me and said it will only become an issue if I become bed-ridden or much less mobile (in which case I'll have to have daily injections). And will have to have daily injections for about 10 days after birth anyway.

LisaTheSimpson · 29/07/2016 11:41

Also, whoever said about having a gigantic foof (April?) - YES! I think it's puffy and swollen (obviously can't see it properly anymore Hmm), but it's definitely gotten bigger!

Nickname1980 · 29/07/2016 14:41

Thought I'd add my details in too!

Age: 35
EDD: October 20
Third baby (first baby came at: 38 weeks, second:39 weeks)
Gender: boy

I'm also exhausted! I am also with the pps who said they'd be pretty happy with 37 weeks!

Clank is your iron ok? My b12, iron and Vit d are all low. I have been taking supplements since the start so don't know what to do now. My doc didn't suggest injections, she's not massively interested!! "Oh, you're just pregnant" Hmm was her reaction. Like, you're just pregnant, course you feel like crap. Grr! Will talk to my midwife. Anyway, clank, hope they get to the bottom of your tummy troubles. Have you have coeliac testing?

I work for myself so no actual mat leave for me!! Eek. I managed ok last time, but it was hard. I swore I wouldn't do it again (I was adamant I'd take someone on this time so I could have a break!) but here I go. DH is taking just two weeks off too, as that's all he can, and we have no family around either. So that'll be interesting!

chatter, reading your post has just made me crave cheesecake!

clank2 · 29/07/2016 19:54

Thanks for the reply nickname. Next blood test is for coeliac. Do you know what your levels were, I've been researching low b12 and it worried me as it is as dangerous for baby as lack of folic acid in terms of neurology development, so your gp should take it seriously!😭

MrsMKJ · 29/07/2016 21:18

Hello all. Another lurker.. Thought I'd check in properly.
Age: 32
First baby- gender is a surprise
Due 10th October.
Been really lucky and kept well mostly, thankfully.

I need some fashion help please ladies. I have a very close friends wedding in a few weeks. I'll be 33 weeks by then and the wedding will be in Ireland. Where on earth does a girl start with shopping?? Have looked on the well known websites like seraphine and Tiffany rose. Any other suggestions?

Also- everyone keeps telling me baby movements should have a pattern. One day my baby is really active, moves constantly and the next I don't feel much at all. Is anyone else finding this?

Nickname1980 · 29/07/2016 21:23

clank Oh crikey - they were 118. What about yours? I didn't know that about brain development and b12! (Although I did once read that vit b12 deficiency can make you prematurely grey! Shock) I am going to get onto my doc for injections right away- thank you! I have been taking iron and b12 supplements for months and months (both were low before I got pregnant so I knew it was likely).

I am going to research now too! Poor bubba!

Hope you get an answer from your testing!

Figgygal · 29/07/2016 21:25

I had a wedding last weekend and have another end of August I found a dress on eBay in the end as lots on there which you can get without breaking the bank for something you'll wear once Grin

Nickname1980 · 29/07/2016 21:26

Asos maternity have some pretty looking wedding-guest-worthy dresses, mrsmkj. But if you like Tiffany rose, it holds it value pretty well on eBay! I bought a dress in my last pregnancy for a wedding and sold it after I wore it for not far off purchase price!

Newmum90 · 29/07/2016 23:22

I was at a wedding all day yesterday and feel like ive missed lots! Liking the roll call idea.

Age 26
First baby
Due date - 12th Oct (same as a few others!)
Sex - boy
This has been a surprise baby for my OH and i so we are in the process of moving house to somewhere more child friendly! I work full time as a recruitment consultant and sing in a band in the evenings.

Aaaand the news here is ive been admitted to hospital for the night! After a lovely hassle free pregnancy so far (described by my midwife as perfectly average until this point) my waters appear to have gone at work today! Im 29+2 so was in a bit of a tizz. My whole seat at work was soaked and my jeans were wet, pants soaked through. No colour and no smell of urine.

Heartrate is fine but they wont let me go home so are monitoring pads overnight Confused very very nervous :(

positivity123 · 30/07/2016 07:32

Hi newmum . I really hope you are OK. How was your night in hospital? Has there been any news. I hope you can get plenty of rest. Keep us updated

Afreshstartplease · 30/07/2016 07:46

Fingers crossed for you Newmum!

Must be scary

I sometimes wander onto the forum on the nurture app and several of the due in October babies on there have been born in the past few weeks. All seem to be doing okay.

I also know a little one born at 30 weeks who is now thriving and about to start school in September, no one would guess was 10 weeks Prem
