Really sorry to hear that West. Sending lots of mental strength.

I've not been about for a few days and I've had pages to catch up on. I've finally got round to some list making (mainly because we were an hour early for my obs appt last week and didn't have a crazy 15 month old with us) so have an idea about what we need. Less rush for us as the nursery is set up for DD now so it's her new room that needs sorting rather than baby's. So basically a new cot bed for DD and a new matress for this one so she can have DD's cot and we'll be able to get by. Obviously I'd rather be slightly more prepared!

CocklesandMussels · 13/07/2016 08:32

I'm a bit jealous of everyone who is well into baby shopping and decorating. We'll be moving house a month or so before the birth (ridiculous I know) so trying to avoid buying anything yet. I've just made a wish list at John Lewis and will have to order it all as soon as we get in to the new place, and hope it's all in stock.
Things are ok otherwise, I'm pretty exhausted. we have a 24 week scan at the end of next week, they'll scan me every 4 weeks now as I'm higher risk of IUGR. And I have to have a glucose tolerance test at 28 weeks. I'm fully expecting to be diabetic by then as my diet seems to be about 90% cake at the moment.
Hope all well with everyone else.

FuzzyOwl · 13/07/2016 08:36

We are also sorting out a room for DD and this baby will go into her current room but that will be about a year away anyway.

Starting to struggle with various pains now but feel like I am over the most anxious bit and looking forward to the baby being here.

Bought my Bugaboo Cameleon last night! It's currently on offer in John Lewis - you basically get the foot muff for free, saving £120. I've been tracking it for months and have never seen it discounted so snapped it up!

I also went a bit wild on Amazon Prime Day and bought loads of stuff including a carrier, bouncer, car sunshades, breast pump, muslins and Sophie the Teething Giraffe! Prices were really good and I'm a sucker for a limited time offer.

Hope everyone's doing really well - sciatica easing off a bit here and generally feeling pretty good!

CakeAndChocolate · 13/07/2016 11:16

cockles if you don't mind me asking, why are you an increased risk for IUGR? I have to have the GTT too and wouldn't be surprised if it is positive the amount of sweet stuff I'm eating, I ate half a tin of condensed milk last night, straight out of the tin with a spoon Blush.

24 weeks today and just had midwife appointment, I cried and cried and cried on her because I'm getting closer to the gestation my DS1 died at and I'm still not feeling much movement at all due to the anterior placenta and it's the only way I can monitor if baby is ok. I had no symptoms of DS1 dying at all, apart from lack of movement. She's sent me for a reassurance scan to see if that can help with my anxiety.

AyeAmarok · 13/07/2016 11:44

Cake Flowers Have you thought about getting a doppler? You can hear the heartbeat and you can also hear little movements too.

It might help you to feel more at ease that things are OK.

FuzzyOwl · 13/07/2016 11:56

Good news about your pram copper and about the other bargains. My DD loves Sophie.

Oh Cake sending hugs and is your midwife able to see you for extra appointments or arrange additional scans for you as reassurance throughout the remainder of your pregnancy? I didn't ever really feel movement when DD had an anterior placenta but also didn't find the doppler overly reassuring as I wasn't great at finding the heartbeat (I would get confused with the placenta or my own tachycardic one). I hope you have lots of support. X

smellsofelderberries · 13/07/2016 12:25

Oh Cake, I'm so sorry about your DS Flowers fingers crossed you'll get the extra support you need to get through.

I'm also having a lot of anxiety, I think coming up to that 24 week viability date, the move and my due date for my first pregnancy is on August 1st, so it just feels like there's a lot going on. It's also coinciding with an increase in pains so I've been crying a bit in the evenings as I just feel so overwhelmed. I also can't get the idea of cervical incompetence out of my head for some reason and I'm seriously considering paying for a private cervical length scan next week to check its long enough. I'm actually back up at the hospital now as I woke up with pains this morning, though I seem to wake up with pains most mornings that seem to subside as soon as I get up and start moving around. Ugh. I had a good few weeks there where my anxiety was minimal and I was coping well but now I'm just over the planning and the packing and want to be back in Australia because I trust the health care there more than the NHS Sad

CakeAndChocolate · 13/07/2016 13:30

Thanks everyone.

Aye I have a Doppler but in times of irrational panic it does nothing to alleviate my fears!

Fuzzy midwife was fabulous and really kind, she said I can go back and see her as overnight as I like, just need to give her a ring and she'll fit me in.

The scan was fine, baby is moving loads but as my placenta is at the front and baby is currently breach the combo means I can't feel much at all. I had an anterior placenta last time and was feeling more movement by now. Just got to be patient and wait for baby to get bigger/stronger.

smells sorry you are struggling with pains and anxiety, I hope they can put your mind at rest today. You really do have an awful lot on your plate at the moment so it's no wonder you are a bit emotional in the evenings FlowersChocolate

copper great news on your bargains!

Fedupithink · 13/07/2016 14:37

Ooh good bargain hunting Copper can I ask though, does the footmuff only go with the seat not the carrycot part? I thought it was just the seat so as baby will be in the carrycot for the first 6 months it won't be winter when we move to the seat in May?

Cake I'm so sorry you are struggling. I have an anterior placenta and a breech baby too so have to really concentrate and make myself sit still to feel her.

I'm 22+4 and my DH still can't feel her but I did read yesterday that he should be able to hear the kicks and movement now which we tried last night and he could! He was so so excited and he could even hear kicks which I couldn't feel after I pointed out the first few. Might be worth a go for a spot of extra reassurance?

coppergrey · 13/07/2016 15:03

Hey Fedup, yeah from what I can tell the footmuff only works with the pushchair and not the carry cot... but apparently because the carry cot is pretty deep and sheltered, baby will be fine with warm clothing and blankets in winter. Also apparently the footmuff is quite big (folds down at the front for smaller babies) and can last until they're toddlers, so hopefully I'll get some use out of it later on!

tiredmumrighthere · 13/07/2016 15:27

Oh cake sorry to hear that, hope you get some reassurance soon, I too have anterior placenta and and have only just started to feel movements, it does make you anxious but I'm sure all will be fine!

So been doing some research on cots/Moses baskets ect, and from the day 1 I've said I'm going to buy the Chicco next to me cot, but on reading abit about it today and watching a YouTube video I've changed my mind I think Confused I don't know if I like the idea of a baby being attached to the side of my bed when in a few weeks/months I'll be ready for some mummy and daddy time Wink (I'm sure I won't be saying that when I'm dragging myself out of the bed to pop her dummy back in when I could of just reached over to do this) I don't know it just doesn't appeal to me,I'd prefer her to be the other side of the room so she's not disturbed especially as my partner is the loudest snorer in history!!!

Anyway moving on..I've been looking at the sleepyhead sleep pod, just read some reviews on the John Lewis website and some people are saying its just a very expensive cushion Shock hmm anyone on here had any previous experience of this contraption? I saw that giovanna fletcher used one for her son and she swears by it

CakeAndChocolate · 13/07/2016 16:02

Thanks fedup I didn't know about being able to hear the kicks so I'll ask DH to have a listen tonight.

I came home and went for a nap because k was so tired and haven't been able to sleep because ironically baby has been lock-in the hardest I have felt so far! Quite nice though.

copper I a bugaboo chameleon and you are right that the footmuff is big enough to last until baby is around 15 months (and that's my 98th centile DS! Blankets etc are more than enough for the carrycot especially as baby is too small to kick them off and even if they do there is nowhere for them to fall.

Really good tip someone told me when DS was little, lie a muslin over the cot/carrycot/Moses basket/bouncy chair and tuck the ends under so it is snug and tightly fitted and then when baby throws up/dribbles/possets you can just whip off the muslin and replace so no need to mess around with changing sheets. Particularly good for the pram when out and about and the middle of the night.

CakeAndChocolate · 13/07/2016 16:03

Baby has been kicking sorry for typos

needanewjob · 13/07/2016 16:25

Do you know if you get the footmuff free with the Bugaboo Bee?

CocklesandMussels · 13/07/2016 18:22

Cake Flowers poor you, must make anxiety much worse not being able to feel kicks.
IUGR risk is mainly to do with it being twins, but also my blood pressure is on the high side. I'm on aspirin which apparently lowers the risk of that and pre-eclampsia, but it doesn't do much for my reflux! I got a very odd look from the chemist when trying to buy aspirin and rennies together.
I'm going to have to look and see if there are any freebies with the donkey now, some foot muffs would be nice.

rosie85 · 13/07/2016 18:28

Tired mum- we Just heard about the sleepyhead thing and we curious but it doesn't sound like you're that keen? We are going to try and use the Chicco next to me cot for a bit ( my sister in law) is giving us hers but I'll be keen to get the baby into her own cot on the otherside of the room!

CakeAndChocolate · 13/07/2016 19:47

Oh yes, I forgot you had twins cockles. I'm on aspirin too (for blood thinning rather than blood pressure) and agree that it's not great for reflux!

needanewjob · 13/07/2016 20:27

I'm intrigued by the sleepyheads - they've got rave reviews but they seem so expensive for what they are? Do let me know if any of you have experience of using them

coppergrey · 13/07/2016 20:46

My friend has 4-month twins and two Sleepyheads - she loves and swears by them!

I'm planning to get the Snuzpod which attaches to the bed but also has a zippable side so you can close it off, and also I guess you could just move it to the other side of the room if you wanted some 'alone time'! Wink

Great tip on the muslin lining, Cake!

coppergrey · 13/07/2016 20:46

Also, the Snuzpod and mattress is on offer in various places at the mo if anyone's interested - £179.95.

bobcat85 · 13/07/2016 20:57

We're getting the Chicco next to me but not attached to the bed, just to use as a cot until he moves into his own room with a larger cot. I've added the sleepyhead to my Amazon list so might get one at some point. Does seem really expensive for what it is.

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 13/07/2016 22:10

I'm just planning on tying the cot bed on to the side of our bed as we did last time. Worked really well and means we didn't need anything 'extra'. She stayed there happily till 8 months, then a month of normal cot in our room before she went into her own room. As for sleepyheads, DD had such bad reflux that she had to sleep on her front from 10 weeks so wouldn't have been much use!

latinata · 14/07/2016 03:32

Also going Chicco Next to Me- the fact it doubles up as a travel cot seems a bonus. And agree it can be shoved aside for sexy times Grin

Cockles, I share your house move frustration!! We're moving in a month or so & went round to look at the flat again today. Blooming good job I measured the lift- the buggy I wanted won't even fit! Not great for 9th floor!

So we're going with the Bugaboo Bee which is pretty tiny. Lots of Buenos Aires Mums seem to have it, probably owing to high number of small lifts! Then when we move back to London hopefully it'll be great for tubes & buses.

DH just got kicked in the face by Bump- I obviously started crying! But then I also cried today at work when my computer froze Smile

CocklesandMussels · 14/07/2016 10:54

Latinata I think the bee is a great pushchair, lots of London mums I know have it. Luckily we're moving out of a second floor flat (no lift) into a ground floor place with level access. Otherwise I'd be stranded I think!
