I'm not a teacher Smile

Fedupithink · 10/08/2016 20:01

I'm not a teacher either, I'm a project manager. Was beginning to get jealous of everyone going off at half term while I'll still be doing a 2 hour commute into London until 35+6!! My legs are really swollen tonight, may have done too much.

I haven't thought about my hospital bag yet, it's occurred to me I haven't really factored in the actual birth bit just lots of plans for before and after... Must get on this!

I've just found a pregnancy yoga class near me which I'm hoping to start soon but she only offers one session a week and it's so hard to get a place. I'm on the wait list every week until my first booking in September. Frustrating.

helenatroy · 10/08/2016 20:16

No bag packed. No pram. No cot. Have some clothes and a moba Moses basket. Also have builders in building her room. On another note I'm not a teacher. I work as a private PA and I take care of a number of small companies social media.

needanewjob · 10/08/2016 21:05

LittleGrey I hope all goes well and baby can stay put for a while longer x

CocklesandMussels · 10/08/2016 21:37

Cot is under our bed. Moving to a new flat quite (very) soon, removal company haven't brought boxes yet. Baby clothes in a cupboard somewhere. Moses basket mainly occupied by cat. Cat is not going to be pleased to be moved either from current flat or from the basket. Hospital bag contains nothing, I've taken cash out for a taxi and for food for DH once I'm in hospital. That's as far as preparation has gone!

sk08 · 10/08/2016 23:37

Hi can I join?

latinata · 10/08/2016 23:39

Catching up after 2 days as someone cut the internet cable on our roof in our new flat. Internet company came today & said they had done it by mistake. Right...

No bag even remotely packed!! 3 week trip to the UK and quick hols in France first then finishing work at 37 weeks.

Got my Babybjorn bouncer and Babymel changing bag delivered this week. Both lovely. Can't wait to see some strollers in the flesh in a few weeks!

Love the weird dreams. Cat in a pram sounds like a feasible children's book!

bobcat85 · 11/08/2016 07:13

Haven't packed my hospital bag yet, I'm only 26 weeks so think it's still too early. I'll probably do it around 33/34 weeks.

coppergrey · 11/08/2016 07:29

Hi all! Checking in from Copenhagen where I'm on holiday... According to my FitBit I did 18k steps yesterday and my hips are killing me! Shock

Also not a teacher - I'm a self-employed copywriter and planning to finish at 36w. I'm currently in the middle of the busiest summer I've ever had in my 5 years of business - before this hol I was working 16 hour days! I'm fully booked with work till 1st Nov so hoping to power through at full pelt till then and then not go back for a while. We'll see.

Hospital bag not even remotely packed, only two walls in the nursery have paint but we've almost bought all the big stuff so feeling good about that. And I just got an email from Amazon confirming I did order the Sleepyhead Pod for £45 so very pleased with that! Thanks again, bobcat!

Hope everyone's doing well!

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 11/08/2016 08:05

Ah I'm kicking myself for not ordering that pod straight away! I was out at the time and DP said "just do it now", I said I'd do it when we got home. Damn it, I hate it when he's right! I've ordered a Moses basket now because all of the other decent pods are just too expensive.

Hi sk08! When are you due?

Thurlow · 11/08/2016 08:27

How on earth do those of you with very young children get by?! DD (4.5) woke up an almost unprecedented 3 times last night and I'm now shattered! I take my hat off to anyone doing this with more wakings than the standard pregnancy peeing insomnia!

corinne65 · 11/08/2016 10:36

No bag packed either. But I did buy a great book - it's called The Good Birth Companion by Nicole Croft. Not too hippy - not too medical. Lots about the effect of the mind on the body. Plus lots of good tips about what should go into the bag when I finally get round to packing it.

Just need to get my friend to look after the dogs as I'm not sure Basingstoke Hospital will be wildly keen on them attending the birth (we shall have to see what they say about me feeding the placenta to them . . .)

Had my 28 week check up yesterday & was surprised to find that my blood pressure was elevated & I had sugar in my urine. I had been feeling fine so it was a nasty shock. But actually a good wake up call to focus on my diet which has been pretty horrible. I've got a glucose test scheduled for September so my aim is to try to fix things via diet before then.

Very very interesting programme on R4 this morning on the Ethics Committee on the ethics of delivering v prem babies who aren't growing. The babies were around 26 weeks I think - but weighed less than 500g. It wasn't scary, but the bit about testing drugs on pregnant women was very interesting. Am sure it's available on listen again if anyone is interested.

BTW SK08 - of course you can join!! Welcome - looking forward to getting to know you.

Bollyroo · 11/08/2016 13:46

So, heartburn!!

I just had dinner with a friend who suffered with terrible heartburn when she was pregnant. She found that foods she expected to be soothing or alkaline (milk, water, yoghurt) turned more acidic when it reached her stomach. Then she tried watered down lemon juice (of all things) and found the heartburn virtually gone. Might be worth trying. Had to share. I've been eating grapefruit every day and wonder if that's why I haven't been hit by heartburn yet...

We still only have 108 nappies and a baby carrier. No hospital bag, no cot, no clothes. Quite happy to let that happen in a few weeks. Only 11more weeks of work yay! Also not a teacher, I'm a self employed engineer.

Smells, hope your journey over to Aus goes well. It's this weekend right? Good luck!

Stretchedfortime · 11/08/2016 14:02

Thanks Bollyroo for the heartburn tips. Weirdly I've had a craving for grapefruit juice.

Anyone else totally exhausted? I'm 28 weeks tomorrow and I've just been hit by a wave of tiredness.

user1463652193 · 11/08/2016 16:26

Hi all, can join too? I have been lurking for a while! 25+2, due on the 22nd Nov! I also feel totally under prepared, nursery is a dumping ground and have a pram, a blanket, some nappies and 3 vests! I have a list so I'm not too worried but definitely feel like I need to get a move on!

helenatroy · 11/08/2016 17:11

Am knackered too. DH out tonight so am going to give myself a foot massage and go to bed early.

Stretchedfortime · 11/08/2016 17:42

Just found out I have gestational diabetes. Really upset about it but I guess it explains me being exhausted.

Thurlow · 11/08/2016 18:39

Oh, I'm sorry stretched. What are they saying the plan is?

corinne65 · 11/08/2016 18:40

Sorry to hear that Stretched. It's v common & I suspect I might be about to be diagnosed with it too (had just had a high sugar dip test so am being sent for the glucose challenge test). How are they going to treat it?

Fedupithink · 11/08/2016 18:45

Oh I'm so sorry Stretched at least you know know and can take steps to manage it. What did they recommend?

I'm worried that the same will be picked up next week when I go in for my 28wk appt (at 27 weeks...)

helenatroy · 11/08/2016 18:48

Stretched. You'll probably just have to watch the carbs a bit and keep the sugar consumption to a minimum. Was doing this as a matter of course for a while. Have fallen off the wagon somewhat in last couple of weeks as have builders in and can't face cooking. I must say I felt a lot better on it and will do it again.

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 11/08/2016 18:54

user you have more than I do! I have a pram and have ordered a Moses basket, but that's all!

Stretched I'm sorry to hear that. What do you need to do to keep it at bay?

Stretchedfortime · 11/08/2016 18:58

Thanks everyone - it really helps a lot to have support from all of you Smile.

I don't really know much yet. I just got a text telling me I've got an appointment with a diabetes nurse on Monday. According to the Internet, about half of women can control it with diet and exercise. But it probably does mean I'll have to have a hospital birth - I'm really upset about that as we visited an amazing birth centre last week and I really wanted to go there.

I'm sure I'll adapt to this, just feel quite distraught right now. Hope everyone else's tests go ok if you're having them

helenatroy · 11/08/2016 19:02

Apparently plenty of people have managed to control and improve it with diet. Last week I was treated by a doctor who was heavily pregnant herself. She told me that she'd been diagnosed at 28 weeks and had it under control with diet alone.

Stretchedfortime · 11/08/2016 19:34

Thanks helena. That is really good to hear. I'm going to give it my best shot.
