witch don't write it off just yet- is your BMI borderline? My friend was put on a special diet for her pregnancy and had the water birth she wanted by getting her weight down. It can be done! Do not be sad!

Witch91 · 07/07/2016 16:18

Scary - No not really - they said BMI 35 and over has to be seen by the consultant and be on the labour ward at the main hospital, and mine was 39! I also came home and weighed myself and i was heavier then I said, so BMI will be even higher.

I did not realise that you can lost weight in pregnancy though, so that is interesting and may be worth a chat with the MW at next appointment.

SkyLucy · 07/07/2016 16:31

Oh rocket, I'm so very sorry.

Sorry to hear that witch. My only experience is that a labour ward can be an OK environment and not totally medical, I had a water birth on a labour ward for instance. That is hard though when you know what you want.

I am not sure if I am the first scan but could be! Reckon my due date is right at the end of Jan so may well be. Hope they don't have to get me back again as I'll only be 11plus 5. I think it's 11plus 2 earliest for scan so fingers crossed it will be ok.

birdboo · 07/07/2016 16:52

I think I'm out too. Bleeding red again with small clots, low back pain and cramping. I know I won't be seen by the epu until it gets heavier so I'm just waiting it out. The local EPU closes at 5pm so it might be an a&e visit later.

We are clinging on to the fact that we achieved the pregnancy naturally against big odds. This may or may not be related I guess it's one thing we will never know.

Scarydinosaurs · 07/07/2016 17:02

I've had a scan before being discharged, mixed news- baby is measuring a little small compared to dates, and there is a large clot of blood (about the same size/bigger than the baby) that could possibly cause problems. I'm a bit upset as it all feels very traumatic- what with everything else that is happening. I'm on a heap of drugs to try and control my UC flare and just feel rather down about it all.

Readyfortwo · 07/07/2016 17:17

Hi ladies, just on the flight back from my work trip and catching up on the thread....sounds like you've been busy! Sorry to hear of the losses.

I've had a bit of a mad couple of days. 10+3 now and tiredness/nausea has completely gone. I've partied so hard this week- assuming it was inevitable that all my work colleagues would spot my sobriety a mile off, I told a few key people at work last week & braced myself for lots of awkward questions. In actual fact no one noticed (or if they did, they didn't say anything!). Admittedly I wasn't behaving much like a pregnant woman (dancing & singing till 2/3am both nights) but still, I really thought the combo of noticeable bump + no shots would put me. I did have a glass of wine with dinner & a poolside beer both days, but still- just goes to show how wrapped up in their own worlds people are! Had a fab time though & feel amazing, so much fun. I did get manhandled quite roughly by a couple of the really drunk guys on the dance floor, as in rugby tackled/picked up etc. My boss stepped in at one point because he was a bit concerned, prob rightly so as my bump was in agony by the end of night 2. All seems ok today though so hopefully not too much damage done!

I def didn't feel this good at this stage in my first pg. Got my mw booking apt on Monday (I'll be 11wks) and then my scan the following weds. Think I'll have a few shocked colleagues when I finally come clean in a couple of weeks...

twocatsandatoddler · 07/07/2016 17:20

I'm sorry witch. I totally understand your disappointment as I'd have been the same if I'd have had that news first time round.

I really wanted to give birth in the lovely midwife unit at the hospital I was registered with last time (different hospital this time as the post-natal ward was grim!). I had no risk factors and was all set for a low-risk birth but that hope ended pretty quickly as soon as my waters broke and labour didn't start for over 24 hours - I was immediately unable to go to midwife unit because of increased risk of infection. Out of my NCT group of 5, only one ended up giving birth in the midwife unit for various reasons, and we were all low risk! You really don't know how things are going to go in labour so please try not to beat yourself up about it now as even if you did everything 'right' sometimes things are just out of your control anyway.

FWIW, The labour ward room I was in for most of my active labour was fine though, ensuite room, lovely big picture of a beach scene on the wall which helped keep me cam throughout!
DS was eventually born in an operating theatre but I can't even tell you what that room was like as I was too out of it on morphine and dizzy from blood loss!

AngrySparrow · 07/07/2016 17:21

Really sorry to hear about bleeding bird, I had something similar last week where I had a bright red bleed followed by several days of spotting. It turned out that I just had a internal haematoma and that the pregnancy is progressing well so it might not be bad news. I would go to the epu as I'm sure they will see you if you are worried.

AngrySparrow · 07/07/2016 17:25

I meant to add hello Bohemian! It is so nice to have found a place to talk to others with a similar due date.

I am still struggling to believe that I am really pregnant (although the tiredness and nausea remind me several times a day). I have also noticed this morning a slightly discoloured line on my skin that runs down from my belly button and my first thought was that it was strange as only pregnant women get that! Any tips on getting your head around it all would be greatly appreciated!

birdboo · 07/07/2016 17:33

Because I already have a scan booked for Monday the local EPU refuse to see me unless I start "to fill a pad under an hour".

I really have no idea what's going on. I still have milder symptoms but I just don't feel it anymore. If I do I just cry.

FriendlyGhost · 07/07/2016 17:44

It's absolutely ridiculous that they won't see you bird. It's not fair leaving you in limbo like this. I hope you get to a&e and are seen quickly.
Scary I hope baby catches up soon. Measurements can be very inaccurate at this stage. Fingers crossed the clot isn't a problem.
Ready I'm exhausted even reading your post! Glad you had a good time.
I've eaten so much today that I feel horribly ashamed of myself. I've just been constantly hungry and it's the only way to ease the nausea. I'm going to be massive at this rate! Also completely exhausted. I woke up at 4.30am in a massive panic because I had a dream I went to my scan and it was twins. Took me ages to get back to sleep after that!

AngrySparrow · 07/07/2016 17:57

Friendly, I am exactly the same. I usually eat a really healthy diet - lots of green leafy veg and low fat protein - but since the nausea has kicked in all I want to eat is white pasta and bread! I also have never liked cheese and am craving it like crazy. I have bought some calcium supplements to go with my usual pregnacare so hopefully I won't spend the next few weeks eating toasted cheese sandwiches and putting on a ton of weight!

ButtonTum · 07/07/2016 18:03

Angry me too! Cheese sandwiches from waitrose (with onion and mayo, naughty) are my kryptonite right now.

FriendlyGhost · 07/07/2016 18:05

Glad it's not just me. I have really strong cravings for halloumi at the moment. Good job there's none in the fridge!

wispaxmas · 07/07/2016 18:29

Sorry rocket and birdboo :(

Witch, you can definitely lose weight whilst pregnant, but there's a safe way to do it. I'm sure a couple of my friends did slimming world whilst pregnant. Because it's basically just a healthy eating program it's really good for pregnancy (not that I've done it, though). I have no choice other than labour ward for my birth, too, but I don't mind as I know I want an epidural Grin

I don't feel nauseous much anymore, either. 10+2 today. Definitely still tired, though, I had a 2-hour nap this afternoon!!

Scarydinosaurs · 07/07/2016 18:48

Witch you absolutely can, and I would say your BMI is totally within the realms of 'getting back down'. From my friends experiences it varies hugely from trust to trust. It ain't over til it's over! You can do this!

You have an even better chance if you can prove you're fit and healthy too.

I really hope it can resolve itself, and thanks friendly I think it's staying in the hospital is wearing me down and I just want some good news. I am so worried anyway, and as my flare still isn't under control I feel like nothing is going 'right' yet.

Evergreen17 · 07/07/2016 18:55

GinandJazzHands · 07/07/2016 19:30

I'm so sorry rocket Flowers
bird and scary keeping everything crossed for you.
button great news on the scan!

BohemianRaspberry · 07/07/2016 19:43

Sorry for the losses - so sad Flowers

witch sometimes if you can prove that you are healthy and fit then they can change. With ds they ummed and ahhed over me going in the birth centre but gave in (then I was induced and that went to poo anyway but still!) But it was after proved to them that I was fitter than my weight said and I sent myself for the full gtt too.

I am dreading my booking in because of the weight issue but I have pushed and pushed to get it down.

mshepp · 07/07/2016 19:54

We Have the opportunity to self refer to a hospital about 30 min drive away which has a much better reputation or keep with our existing one which is 5 min round the corner.

As this is our first child I was wondering whether come waters breaking and things happening it's worth the 30 min drive away or whether that's too far? Would love to know people's opinions

FriendlyGhost · 07/07/2016 20:01

mshepp I am about 20 minutes drive from the nearest hospital if there's no traffic. Last time I opted for that one as it was closest but this time I've gone for one 30 minutes away. You really should have plenty of time to get there if it's your first. Contractions often start slowly so you do have a bit of warning. Mine were fairly quick but I still had a shower and got ready before I called and was told to go straight in. Despite that I had plenty of time. If for some reason you do need to dash in your can call an ambulance or just go to the closer one on the day. I'd say go with whatever you're most comfortable with.

twocatsandatoddler · 07/07/2016 20:16

I've chosen to go to a hospital that's 35 mins drive away and up a motorway, as opposed to the one 20 mins down the road. Can't say I'm enthralled by the idea of being stuck on the M11 in rush hour in labour but we'll probably just leave a bit earlier than we would for a closer hospital i.e. not wait too long for contractions to intensify.

Scarydinosaurs · 07/07/2016 20:58

Mrs Shepp- even with my super quick active labours, I had time to get to my hospital (20-25min) with my first labour. Second I was induced as was worried about the dash- this time I am opting for the same!

For your first 30 min should be fine. It's a calculated risk and one worth taking for a good hospital!
