A home for all of us enjoying the surreality of the first trimester. We're sick as dogs, exhausted to the core, our boobs hurt, we've developed superhuman senses of smell and we're shirking all alcoholic bevvies with a variety of lame excuses...

...we're preggers and over the moon! Join us if you're due in February 2017 and fancy wisdom for the weirdness, support for any sadness, and a safe place where you can get excited about what the future holds, before you go public!

Third thread already (we're a chatty bunch!) Second thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/2662110-Due-in-February-2017-thread-2?

London, it's in the borough of Bromley, but a bit farther out still, Farnborough Village! Not that far, though, really. I'll be interested to see if your intuition was right - I thought girl last time and was right, but I guess you've got 50/50 chance! Exciting that you'll know so soon, though, I'm a bit jealous, I just can't justify the cost of the test since Kings will do it on the NHS is the nuchal screening comes back high risk for trisomies.

Friendly, DH and I have difficulty agreeing on names, too. He was not overly keen on DD's name, but I was so dead set on it that he kind of just gave in. I don't think he has any regret, though I bet he will use it to push his name choices this time!

Good luck tomorrow, scary and fenella!!

jp, last pregnancy I barely had any symptoms at all until really late when I was massive and developed pelvic problems. It's not uncommon at all to have no nausea or fatigue, but they usually tend to start around 6 weeks, so you're still early days yet.

FriendlyGhost · 04/07/2016 22:37

Wispa you're about 15 minutes away from me!
jp I started getting stronger symptoms at 6 1/2-7 weeks this time. Feeling pretty much constantly sick now. There's still plenty of time!
I keep thinking I'm having a girl again but it may be that's just what I know and so can imagine myself with. Last time I thought it would be a boy and I was wrong so I don't think too much of my intuition!

jpclarke · 04/07/2016 23:05

Thanks girls, that's really reassuring. I guess because I suffered sickness on DD and nausea on ds I am just nervous but I can't remember when it kicked in. I just don't feel that pregnancy feeling yet either but maybe that's just me worrying too much as I am still breastfeeding this time and I didn't have that variable on previous pregnancies. I am going to go to the gp this week and I am hoping he will refer me to the epu. My consultant won't see me until 9 weeks so I am just very nervous.

Hazandduck · 05/07/2016 00:06

OH and I have had our top 4 names picked out for ages! I love loads of names but it makes it easier for me that he has 2 boy names and 2 girl names that I love too. It's just picking one! We aren't going to find out what we are having! It's going to be so hard but I want the surprise! X

Scarydinosaurs · 05/07/2016 02:51

fen I like your style!

I even had a thread on baby names where almost EVERYONE agreed with DH. I was furious Grin.

The ward I'm in is crazy noisy. I'm not going to get back to sleep!

Scarydinosaurs · 05/07/2016 02:52

Haz I am firmly in camp surprise too! Not knowing really helped motivating me through the birth too.

H007 · 05/07/2016 05:51

Hey scary it's good if it is GD that they caught it so early. It's related to pregnancy so should go away afterwards. You will need to control your diet and your blood sugar levels throughout your pregnancy, when it's not caught and treated I think there can be birth complications, and baby is at risk of being a large birth weight. However it's really early to catch it, often it not till nearer the 20w mark that it's pick up so I am sure with the proper treatment there will be no long term issues.

I would advise you being cautious with high GI foods afterwards though as there is a body of research which suggests there is a correspondence between GD and developing type 2 diabetes within 10 years.

Scarydinosaurs · 05/07/2016 06:26

Sorry, H- what I meant was that taking this high does of steroids means I am at risk of developing GD, I won't be tested for it until the usual point (18 weeks??).

I've always had tests before as my dad is diabetic, but I'm so not the usual candidate for it that I've never even looked up what the implications are. I'm only 8 and a half stone 😂 And tiny, so my two babies have always been small/average. The thought of a big baby makes me feel somewhat...nervous!

twocatsandatoddler · 05/07/2016 07:28

haz I didn't find out last time and loved the surprise! Although we thought we saw 'something' at the 20 week scan so we did suspect we were having a boy. I think we'll find out this time though so I can sort through and give away the boys clothes in the attic if not needed and clear some space!

Hazandduck · 05/07/2016 07:46

Scary fingers crossed you are ok, my brother is diabetic although his was contracted after mumps. I'm also in the small camp but have a really sweet tooth that I have tried to curb for the last year or so, as I get shaky and hypoglycaemic if I don't keep my sugar levels steady and have been tested for diabetes before but thankfully didn't have it! Fingers crossed you don't develop it. Xx

Hazandduck · 05/07/2016 07:49

Ah twocats I am hoping we are clueless enough not to know what a mini boy part looks like on a scan haha! I agree, for me it will make the birth that much more rewarding when I have that lovely surprise and I think it's a nice surprise for all our families too. I can totally see why you'd want to be prepared though. I'm looking forward to having neutral colours and a neutral nursery, I've never been a fan of the standard blues and pinks really! OH is nicknamed 'Ducky' so I am sure we will get lots of yellow duckling themed gifts lol X

LondonGirl83 · 05/07/2016 09:01

jp why would they refer you to the epu? Unless there is an issue I don't think epu referrals are standard.

I am totally impressed by those waiting to find out the sex. I could never wait and I'm not sure I get why people do. I'll be surprised whenever I find out so I'm not one for delaying the gratification just for the sake of it. Also, this being our first baby, I'm sure there'll be enough post birth surprises for me to be 'entertained'!

SpinALittleFaster · 05/07/2016 09:11

scary I think I've missed what's going on with you but I hope you're ok and all goes well today.

London I'm a planner and couldn't imagine not knowing. We bought a bunch of gender neutral and "boy" stuff for DD anyway, but at least knowing meant we could plan names and whether to buy dresses (in retrospect the answer before 3 months is don't anyway!)

twocatsandatoddler · 05/07/2016 09:16

spin definitely with you on the not buying clothes in the small sizes. If this is a boy then I already have clothes anyway, but even if I'm having a girl I won't buy anything except a few babygros and vests. People love to give you little outfits, and you'll hardly use them anyway so no point in buying any extras ones yourself.

I have a load of gender-neutral newborn and 0-3 clothes as we didn't know the sex last time so I won't have to buy anything new for a while even if this is a girl.

MarjorySunshineDust · 05/07/2016 10:01

I'm in the finding out camp too, can't imagine waiting as like London says it will be a surprise whenever you find out. Also think it will help prepare dd to know whether she is having a little brother or sister.

I'm 9+2 and for the last couple of days I've been feeling a lot less sick, still tired but not feeling like I will die without an afternoon nap! I hope it lasts. It probably helps that I have fully come off the sertraline now Smile

divadee · 05/07/2016 10:13

Hi ladies.

I'm new to this thread and 9+1 based on last period dates. Had booking in appt last Friday and got blood tests today. Waiting for my first scan appt to come in the post.

This is my second pregnancy but having 18.5 years between them I feel like it's my first all over again.

FriendlyGhost · 05/07/2016 10:13

I'm also a planner and want to find out. I have quite a few gender neutral sleep suits and if this one is a boy he might just have to become comfortable with wearing a bit of pink but I will want to get a few new bits. Also I'm planning to move dd into a bigger bedroom before the new baby so I need to know whether to take her room theme with her or to leave it for the new baby. It's also so hard agreeing on names that I don't think we'll ever agree if we have to come up with two!

Hazandduck · 05/07/2016 10:33

Yes I totally understand why some people find out. I love a surprise lol so I'm one of the drag it out for ages people! It's going to be so hard not to know but we have both always said we don't want to know until the day he/she is born so we are sticking to it. Half the family want a boy and half a girl so they are going to do a bit of a sweepstake lol. I have dreamt it's a girl though! X

louiseplusditi · 05/07/2016 10:34

Hello everyone :-) I am approximately 8 + 3days and very nervous. I think I'd be due around end of January/February x

MrsM2016 · 05/07/2016 10:48

Hi ladies, would love to join if I may. I am 8 weeks and 1 day today. Would love some support. Rather struggling with this so far!! X

Evergreen17 · 05/07/2016 11:17

I am with London regarding finding out the sex. I find pregnancy so far very boring so anything extra I can get I will have Grin

Yes, I dont understand why people decide to get a surprise either Hmm

(Of course not saying I think one thing is better than the other,)
Smile

Scarydinosaurs · 05/07/2016 11:34

Successful scan! Dating slightly behind- but that matches with my estimations of late implantation. So happy! Little bean baby. ☺️

It is making this hospital stay much more palatable!

wispaxmas · 05/07/2016 11:40

I've heard over ad over from mums here in the UK how many outfits people love to give to you for a new baby - I think we got given one last time and that's it. Our friends and family must not love us Grin Of course, that suits me just fine as I get an insane joy out of buying baby/children's clothes. I swear to god I should take out stock in Polarn O. Pyret.

Welcome new joiners, congratulations!

LondonGirl83 · 05/07/2016 11:41

That's great news Scary

Welcome newbies

My nausea keeps ebbing and flowing today. One minute I feel horrible and then the next I'm fine. I am a bit hungry though which makes for a nice change.

divadee · 05/07/2016 11:44

Struggling with nausea and heaving today. I am dreading going to the hospital for the blood tests as it doesn't smell pleasant when I'm not pregnant, let alone now!!
