Sorry not been on here for about a week but nice to have an hour today to catch up on all of your posts, and excited that we are starting to find out which teams are babies are on now. My 20 week scan is on the 15th of July so hoping (baby willing) we can find out the sex then. Really impatient to know now!

Odd that some midwives won't check for heart-beats. Mine did quite happily at my 16 week check (although I was 17 weeks) and heard it fairly easily.

For those looking at buggies etc travel systems are definitely really handy for not waking baby when you go out and need to transfer between car seat and buggy. My main regret is that I didn't buy one that could be converted to a tandem now that DC2 is no the way, so that's worth considering too when buying if you know you intend to have a second within a couple of years or so of your first. Also if you drive ask to check that the buggy can fit in the boot of your car before purchasing.

Going to my GP surgery later to see the nurse practitioner as but worried I have a chest infection as I have an awful cough. It's not too bad in the daytime but at night I cough for ages and it's been keeping me awake half the night at times. I want to sleep!

Thanks tinysalmon - fingers crossed! Mine is also with local midwife team at doctors practise, am so hoping they do!!

Re NCT I was advised to sign up soon - especially in London when there are a lot of people in a small area! I've made a provisional booking so far to save my space but will wait til 16 week to pay for it (partly as need another pay day too!!). It's easy to make a provisional booking so I think do that while you're deciding.

Tinysalmon/first timer I'm also at George's - ruby team. They listened with the Doppler for me! They were lovely

Does anyone know the difference between NCT essentials and signature courses? The essentials is shorter and not so ridiculously expensive. I'm tempted to go for that instead. Anyone have any experience of it?

TinySalmon · 27/06/2016 16:27

firsttimer I'm with Emerald team too!! Grin

Never been inside that GP surgery on Garrett Lane though. Only seen it if I'm shopping in Sainsburys or going to the cinema. I hope they're nice in there!

Didn't know you can make a provisional booking with NCT. I wonder if we'll end up in the same NCT group - how crazy would that be?!

babydreaming nice to know they listened to HB with you. Maybe it's Georges policy and all local midwife teams have to do it

Hi
I seem to be missing off the list, my EDD was 26th Dec when I first joined the group a few months ago but has been moved to 21st, please could I be added onto the list?

Anyone thought as far ahead as names yet, even if you're still team yellow?!
We've decided on Connie, but I think I'm going to try and talk dp round to using constance on her birth certificate and we'll call her by the nn Connie, with constance being an option for her to use when she's older (if she'd like) Grin

I think we're waiting til we know the sex - one name exhausted us last time, not sure we could manage two!

Does anyone think they know the sex even though it's not been medically confirmed? I think we're having a girl Smile

Report
Grapefruit8 · 27/06/2016 20:20

Yes we think we know but don't want to tempt fate! Tonight we have made a start on the baby names book, I fear this could be a long longgg process...

TinySalmon · 27/06/2016 20:26

We are firmly Team Yellow until delivery although we've come up with a boys name quite easily but girls name is tricky. DP says he doesn't want to call his daughter with a name of any girl he has slept with... He used to be a bit of a lad so isn't leaving us with any options really Blush So if it turns out to be a girl it's going to probably be something quite unusual.

DH was suggesting Christmas themed names and got the giggles at DDs suggestion of 'Stickman' which is certainly unusual Tiny !! Hmm Grin

Stickman Grin Grin

The Christmas theme is a beautiful idea. A friend of mine is a December baby (12th Dec) and her parents gave her the middle name: Noëlle, which I think is really pretty

16w mw appt today, which started off stressful as the mw was running late so I had to ring the school & ask them to keep my kids for 10 mins as I couldn't have my appt and get there in time. Once I got all that sorted, it was fine. Pee dip was no problem - my wee was so pale she asked me if I'd got the liquid out of the tap! But then said that was nice healthy wee 'cos it was pale and the strip test was fine. BP also normal. We talked about the consultant vs. home birth and she went through risks etc - Im sticking to my decision (as I've done twice before) - she's happy, I'm happy - and have refused the consultant appt & anaethetic referral but will have a GTT at 28 weeks and take (yes please!) growth scans at 28/32/36 weeks. She listened into the heartbeat which was strong and around about 145bpm. So all good.

We finally will start to tell people, starting with our kids, this weekend at 17w+ - yahoo, it's finally starting to sink in and I'm looking forward to the secret being out!!

PS does anyone else have the option of the whooping cough vaccine after 16w - not sure if this is just a NHS Scotland initiative?

lily that's a lot of growth scans you can have! Lucky you. Don't think they're that usual where I am, I slunk off privately last time and probably will do so again this time. Whooping cough vaccine offered at 28 weeks here I think (London UCH)
Oh does anyone have any experience of Kings Hospital? We will be moving away from UCH when I'm about 7 months. Not sure whether to stay there (and face 40 min drive...) or switch to kings up the road. Proximity is tempting but I had DC1 at uch so am torn as I like the familiarity...

Report
MrsJoJo · 27/06/2016 22:06

We will be team yellow right to the end but I am looking forward to thinking about names... When we asked the boys for their initial thoughts my oldest step-son (8) shouted out 'maggot'! After a few moments of hilarity we realised he'd found a maggot in the piece of fruit he was eating Smile

My DS (aged8) is keen for us to stick with a Biblical theme - we have Izaak, Thomas and Samuel already so he suggested Mary & Joseph... I'm amazed he has such sensible suggestions, even more amazed as I'm not regular church goer and DP is atheist!

With DS I had lots of girls names and really struggled with boys... He was nameless for about 5 days because we couldn't agree - in the end we chose his name from our shortlist for the meaning 'he will laugh' as we wanted him to be a happy child. He totally lives up to his name!
