Hi Popskipiekin, I get NHS extra growth scans because of a high BMI - I might also get another presentation scan at 38 weeks - as I'm having a home birth, they now offer these in my area after an undiagnosed breech home birth a couple of years ago. It's not fun having a high BMI and being pregnant and all the fighting I have to do to sort out my home birth - but the extra scans definitely help soothe the wound!!

I think the wh cough vaccine used to be post 28w here, but they've recently brouht it forward to anytime after 16w.

I won't be finding out the sex, but have a strong girl feeling at the moment!

Ahhh ok Lily Blush sounds tough what you have to go through - good work on getting your home birth signed off though, that's lovely.

We don't do anything but boys in our family so we are expecting it to be DS2, DD1 would be a (lovely!) shock. Finding out in a couple of weeks I hope.

firawla · 27/06/2016 23:00

I think we get whooping cough vaccine in England too, I've seen posters up about it. Must be new ish though never had it with my other kids!

For names, I think I want Nora for a girl - really not finding any boys ones that feel right though so would be easier if it's a girl! Finding out hopefully next Friday

lilydaisyrose · 27/06/2016 23:35

Ah becci, thank you - that's lovely of you to be excited for me! I am a bit anxious about people's reactions, especially my kids - I hope they'll be delighted, but I think my son may worry about me and the pregnancy and the baby - he really is a worrier and also he won't be my youngest anymore, which I think he might struggle with.

No need for wardrobe disguises here, its amazing what all my fat hides! I think I've lost a few lbs of fat from not having much of an appetite recently then gained a similar amount of baby/water/placenta so dont think I look much different. I am looking forward to finally going into maternity clothes next week though as I know I'll feel comfier.

Will post back at the weekend with reactions etc!!

lily we haven't told anyone either! Work
Know and that's it.

bumbleclat · 28/06/2016 06:45

Wow, I'm amazed that some of you haven't told people yet, I could barely wait until 12 weeks! (I'm so impatient)
Does anyone else notice that they get quite bad cramping after having an orgasm? It doesn't happen straight away just in the middle of the the night after DTD?
Sorry if tmi!

Bigfam · 28/06/2016 07:11

bumbleclat orgasm, what's that?! Grin
(Sorry had to be done, early morning humour!!!) I've heard an old wives tale that sometimes when you're overdue in pregnancy an orgasm can stimulate your uterus to start contracting, starting labour Wink

SouthDownsSunshine · 28/06/2016 07:14

lily I'm pleased you're getting your home birth.

Whopping cough has been offered in England for a good few years. I had it with dd in 2013. It's really important - I had it as an adult and fractured a rib and was so I'll for months. I would never wish that on a newborn. I'm having it at 28 weeks along with the other 28 week joys: gtt and anti d.

NotAClue82 · 28/06/2016 07:46

lilidaisyrose, how lovely that you're having a home birth! Are you hiring a pool, too?

I was planning on one with this pregnancy until they turned out to be twins! Hmm

lilydaisyrose · 28/06/2016 08:36

I have my own pool! A birth pool in a box. Bought with a friend on 2007 - when we were both pregnant. It's been lent out a few times - wonder how many babies have been born in it! I just need to buy a new liner.

I can't be refused a home birth - and neither can any of us. They can strongly advise against it and tell you risks etc (risks due to my BMI) but have to attend.

I'm telling work mid next week at 17w+5d - next time I'm in the office after telling everyone else.

bumble yes! I always get freaked out that I've hurt the baby :/

DartmoorDoughnut · 28/06/2016 09:47

The whole sex to get labour going is down to sperm not orgasm AFAIK Grin

Bigfam · 28/06/2016 10:08

There's so many old wives tales for starting labour, same as with predicting the sex of a baby.

How do you fill a birthing pool at home?! I assume you need a hosepipe & how do you empty it?

I think I'm going to devour a huge cooked breakfast now, just got to cook it first!

weechops · 28/06/2016 10:48

I have cabin fever! Potty training the toddler this week. Day 2 today and he's actually been pretty good. Def not ready to leave the house yet though

bigfam I love love love Connie. If my dd wasn't a 'C' name that'd be top of my list.
We've chosen Rosalie if baby is a girl, and I think Jackson for a boy. Could all change though!!

Bigfam · 28/06/2016 10:57

Thank you weechops, strangely enough I spotted Rosalie yesterday and I love that name too! Smile it's really beautiful.

How old is your toddler? We've bought dd3 (17 months) a potty to get her used to the idea of it and hoping she won't be in nappies too much longer by the time the baby arrives (she turns 2 end of January)

lilydaisyrose · 28/06/2016 11:09

Sorry - seem to be taking over this thread read yesterday & today - just thought I'd answer your question Bigfam. You fill the birth pool with a hosepipe, yes - and get in when you are roughly 5cm dilated. Obviously you can use tens as pain relief up til then but not after you get in the water. Filling will be much easier now as we have a new combo boiler - last two times we had an old hot water tank which ran out of hot water when the pool was halfway full, meaning poor DH was in the kitchen boiling kettles and pans of water with the steam running down the walls and sweat running down his face!! To empty it you get a special pump - the water and waste goes down the toilet. The worst bit though (according to DH), is having to scoop up bloody stringy bits and entrails with a jug at the end! The placenta is checked over then bagged and taken away by the midwives for disposal unless you want to keep it (to bury/make into pate/have a lotus birth).

Another that staying team yellow til the end- well hopefully! I have my boy name sorted but girls names tricky! I like short names so been searching 4 letter names.

I still haven't announced my pregnancy to the wider world. Told my first client last week, I was working with this 15 year old girl so I did the shit sandwich approach to tell her that I was closing our work! You have done really well I'm so proud of you, I'm withdrawing support, but I'm pregnant! Worked well.

weechops · 28/06/2016 11:19

bigfam he's 2 1/2. I've had to wait til summer holidays because dh works away for so long, and I couldn't face school run poo disasters 😂 Hoping I can go out for a short while tomorrow! I don't seem to have any memories of training dc1&2 😳

Bigfam · 28/06/2016 11:43

Thanks lily, yes I can imagine the scooping part to be quite an experience (and definitely something my dp would NEVER do!) It must be lovely to be able to relax once you've had your baby knowing you're at home Smile I'm not brave enough for a home birth, wish I was though!

Weechops, I also seem to have completely forgotten how to approach potty training! Hmm the last time I dealt with it was between 2.5-3years ago, when dd3 was 18mnths-2yrs. They were all pretty much dry at night as soon as they learnt to use the toilet as well which was a bonus.

cnchapmanxx · 28/06/2016 12:07

my headaches have seem to calm a bit now which is good news.
has anyone felt baby move yet?? when are we meant to feel this?!?! ive heard with your first it can be quite late??

cant wait for my next scan now going 8 weeks without seeing baby bean is a long time! got my 16wk appt with midwife next week hoping to hear babys heart beat on the doppler! xxx

DartmoorDoughnut · 28/06/2016 12:10

The whole sex to start labour isn't really a old wives tale, it's to do with a hormone in the semen, helps soften the cervix. They use a synthetic version when inducing. Having had a failed induction it doesn't always work though obvs!

I'm starting to wonder if I should try and potty train DS this summer, any experienced mums got advice as to how to start?!! Or any recommendations for book to read? I have a potty which I guess is a good start ... Grin

DartmoorDoughnut · 28/06/2016 12:16

I've felt movements occasionally already, some quite strong flutters but no pattern yet. Don't think I felt DS until 18/20 weeks

Bigfam · 28/06/2016 12:40

"In the past, it was thought that female orgasms could trigger preterm labor. This is because orgasms actually cause your uterus to contract.

During orgasm, the hormone oxytocin is released. This hormone is also responsible for triggering labor contractions."

It's been disproven now that it actually could cause labour to start, but sometimes desperate women try/ swear by anything Wink

How old is your ds Dartmoor? We just go by trial and error, nappy off, potty in view and loads of encouragement.

I've felt a few definite movements during the past few days.

TipBoov · 28/06/2016 13:00

Anecdotally, it is semen that can get labour started.

NotAClue82 · 28/06/2016 13:31

I've started to feel my twins move, so exciting!

How old is your ds Dartmoor? I think the hardest thing about potty training is determining when they are ready! Once you think they're ready, the key ingredients to potty training success are:

  1. Perseverance
  2. Patience of a saint
  3. Bribes (eg chocolate buttons) for child
  4. Gin/wine/etc. for mum

Good luck:-)
