Inspiring post SouthDowns, and as the incubator of two troublesome twins (one with growth restriction) I fee much the same.

Love, it's totally normal to feel anxious before the 20 week scan. Most women do feel nervous, and most women&babies are totally fine🙂

Lovewatchingrainfall · 26/07/2016 21:37

Thank you for that South Downs.

Good luck to you Bristol.

Will keep you all updated

Just catching up! What a busy thread... Lovely to see everyone's scans, seems an age since mine, now 22 weeks, and not seeing anyone for another month.

Positively blooming but have a lot less patience and no way near as much tolerance to stress as usual - DP's ex-wife has been causing merry hell for the past few months so that, on top of moving house means I can't take much more.

Work are fab, after a melt down after my 20 week scan my duties have been scaled back a little and I'm taking things at a slower pace. I'm lucky to have a great boss & exec director even if it may have something to do with the trouble their having recruiting my cover (original plan was for cover to start working with me in August).

Not posted for ages but I've been reading up! We've had our 20 week scan now and thankfully baby looked fine, such a relief! We are having a boy, which is what I thought, just had a feeling! Reason I'm posting is that I have an anterior placenta, which after googling seems to increase chances of a long 'back labour' because the baby's more likely to go into a back to back position. Anyone else got an anterior placenta? Bit worried it will cause complications!

Essybird · 27/07/2016 08:01

I have an anterior placenta too.. I however have not heard anything about the baby positioning themselves awkwardly because of this (=will do a bit of selective listening and not worry about it as I can't do anything about it anyway Grin)

SolomanDaisy · 27/07/2016 09:32

I had an anterior placenta last time and had a very short labour. I did feel the pain more in my back, but the baby wasn't actually back to back.

Grapefruit8 · 27/07/2016 10:00

Morning all! Lots of boys it looks like! Ive got to wait until next week for my 20 week scan but feeling flutters more frequently now which is reassuring. What's everyone upto today? I have a week annual leave so pottering about at home trying to write a list of things we still need to buy for baba. Any essentials you can recommend?

IslandLife · 27/07/2016 10:40

Kitty - I have an anterior placenta and am seeing the midwife tomorrow so have planned to ask all the questions. My placenta is covering the 'way out' as well so if it doesn't move i won't be able to have a natural labour. Are you having another scan at 32 weeks? The most annoying thing is not being able to feel the little one moving around!

My twins also have an anterior placenta. I've been feeling plenty of kicks though since about 16 weeks (inevitable with all those limbs I guess!). My placenta is quite high and isn't actually covering the exit, though I'm likely to have a section (for other reasons).

Londonmamabychance · 27/07/2016 12:15

Had my 20 week scan this morning, all is well, and it's a boy! so relived and happy all is well, and quite excited to have a boy, as we already have a girl. Well, a girl would have been lovely too, actually didn't have a preference at all, but now when it's a boy I feel excited to be having one of each! only downside is, got to get all new clothes! going to have a look through DD's clothes and hoping to find quite a few unisex things from the early days.

Grapefruit, I'd recommend holding off with getting too much stuff, you may get loads of gifts and end up not needing it all! also, there's so much you think you need and once baba is there you hardly use it. I'd say as long as you have a cot, a buggy, a bit of clothes (mainly practical essentials as gifts tends to be all the cute and impractical stuff), a baby bath (remember baby insert so you don't have to hold the head), new born nappies, baby wash, cotton wool for changing, a cellular blanket and a warmer blanket or new born sleeping bag depending on what you prefer, and a few muslins, you're set. Oh, also breast pads for leaking milk and Lanolin cream for sore nipples, and bottles if you plan to bottle feed at all. They don't get into toys until around 3 months at the earliest, and probably you'll get given loads!

Thisisbonkers · 27/07/2016 12:21

My anterior placenta isn't covering the exit route either so hopefully baby won't need to exit via the emergency door. I shall ask about it though at midwife appointment.

I think I'm definitely feeling movement. I don't think it's wind, anyway Confused

Oh, and comment of the day from my infuriating and interfering colleague:
Yeah, you'll get a lot of unsolicitated advice from people when you don't even want it.

About that, love...

StubbleTurnips · 27/07/2016 13:45

Grapefruit something for baby to sleep in (cot, Moses basket, cosleeper or whatever), wear, feed with, wash with and transport (buggy, car seat or sling).

Also a thermos mug will save you a lot of time in reheating tea and coffee you don't get to drink Grin

We never got on with a bath as DD got in with me. I've got cloth nappies, breastfeeding pillow and some swaddling stuff. I'm still cross at myself for listening to anti-swaddling advice last time. It suited DD much better with her Moro reflex which drove us batty

Bigfam · 27/07/2016 15:56

Lovely to hear that you're feeling positive southdown and good luck to everyone still awaiting scans 😊 we thought we'd decided on a name, but after a family vote (myself dp & the kids) it seems we are still unsure.
So ladies, I shall turn to you 😉 which name do you prefer between CONNIE & ROMY?

excitedmummytob · 27/07/2016 16:49

Connie but I like both names Smile I'm 21 +2 with my first! I have an anterior placenta but a little worried as the last time I felt movement was Monday night (not felt a great deal before this)! Is this normal,I know midwife said to start monitor movement from24 weeks! Thanks in advance

BristolLFR · 27/07/2016 17:20

Everything went fine this afternoon :) such an amazing thing to see!

And as a bonus the consultant said they're putting me on to midwife led care as the specialist said my blood disorder isn't a risk unless anything happens between now and birth.

Lovely scan pic Bristol and great news Smile

Excited - I'm 20+3 with anterior placenta, and have felt nothing!! Was also advised to wait till 24 weeks...I'm so impatient and it's so frustrating especially after she was so wriggly during the scan!

Grapefruit8 · 27/07/2016 18:31

Bigfam love love LOVE Romy!!!

BowSurprise · 27/07/2016 18:34

Hope the scans have gone well today.
I had a fit on the tube this morning and been in hospital getting checked. Was absolutely fine and then just fitted so make sure you always have food on you when traveling!

SouthDownsSunshine · 27/07/2016 18:55

bigfam I love Connie.

bow that must have been terrifying. Have you had fits before?

stubble we had a brilliant midwife postnataly who encouraged us to swaddle, and it worked a treat. She was expert and used a muslin, but we found the gro swaddles much easier to use.

I'm a bit nervous about buying much given our baby's diagnosis. Fortunately we have lots left from dd, but we'll need to buy a new crib, car seat and little things like bath seats.

IslandLife · 27/07/2016 18:58

Bigfam - I vote for Romy. I wanted Romilly but DP hates it Sad

Minispringroll · 27/07/2016 19:17

bigfam I'd vote for Conny. (Nickname for Cornelia?...very Buffy the Vampire Slayer...Grin)

Bow Hope you are feeling better. That sounds scary.

We've got a few sleepsuits in different sizes so far. Not much else. I'm not sure how much of the newborn/up to 1 month stuff I'm meant to get. Baby measured on 91st centile during the last scan...
A friend of mine will be joining us to have a look at some pushchairs. I'd like to try out a few but there don't seem to be many places where you can test drive them. Confused Have got Jane Trider and iCandy Peach All Terrain on my shortlist so far. We are living a few hundred metres from the beach, so I'd like something that can be used on that type of terrain. (Sand is mostly compacted, but there are stones and sticks and all kinds of things..)

Lovewatchingrainfall · 27/07/2016 19:28

So had my scan today, had a major panic attack before I even got into the hospital (not had a major one in years) then saw the same consultant and threw up all over her. So not a great start.
Things looked okay but need to go back in a few weeks for a more detailed scan.
Still team yellow HOWEVER we have the sex wrote down in an envelope in case we want to look.

Scan picture looks good Bristol

SouthDownsSunshine · 27/07/2016 19:39

Ah bless you love

DartmoorDoughnut · 27/07/2016 19:42

I've gone through all the baby stuff, then got all tearful about not having another baby after this one?! Hormones are officially nuts!
