I think DH and I might have heat stroke, it's awful :( I hope you feel better soon.

Theaks · 19/07/2016 19:59

I'm sat here with my feet in the washing up bowl! 😂 So so hot, don't want to complain about it but wowsa! I did a home visit today. The mum wanted to sit outside to watch her son. I was only there 30 mins and I was all pink! 🙁

Jfw82 · 19/07/2016 20:07

Had mw appointment today so took the opportunity to work from home - very relieved as DH was on the usual trains and took 2 hours to work instead of 1 and had to come home by a completely different route- all on trains with no air con!!!

Now enjoying a glass of tonic in the garden pretending it has gin in it!

LittleBear01 · 19/07/2016 22:35

Solomon: what's IUGR? Sorry you've got that worry. Is the baby still within the normal growth range, just at the low end?

ElectraJane84 · 20/07/2016 01:06

springroll we loved the name Ezra for a long time but it's now no.1 on nameberry so chosen a less common or 'trending' one! It's horrible that people think it's ok to give negative opinions about people's name choices?! It's such a personal and special thing. I think ours is a marmite name too.....

ElectraJane84 · 20/07/2016 01:09

island and azure

bumbleclat · 20/07/2016 04:54

I agree electra I also think that names which sound funny or jarring on paper, end up really suiting the child they belong to.
Each year I get given a list of the reception children who will be joining my class in September and there is always the odd rare or different name on the list but when my team and so meet the child it just suits them so well and is very sweet indeed.

SolomanDaisy · 20/07/2016 06:37

littlebear, intrauterine growth restriction. I'm not sure what normal is really, but some of the measurements were only around the third percentile. Neither DH nor I are small, so it's odd. I don't have any of the flags for IUGR like smoking (60% caused by smoking), drinking, underweight, poor placenta position. The Netherlands is so hands off with treatment and just wait a while and see. I'm tempted to book a consultant scan for when I'm in the UK.

BristolLFR · 20/07/2016 09:12

Just had some bloods done so asked the midwife about strep B while I was there.

She said they don't test for it as standard. Reason being, even if you have it (30% of women do) it comes and goes, so unless you test really close to birth you may get a false positive/ negative anyway.

She said you will be tested if you have a water infection or other indicator close to your due date, and if your waters go but you don't give birth as it's no longer sterile.

Otherwise your waters breaking gives you a natural douche which should wash away any infection before the baby passes through.

Up to you if you get it done privately, but wait as late as possible if so to get an accurate result.

Electra - I'm glad someone else thinks it's unacceptable to be rude about baby names. Although I tried to laugh it off, I am having serious doubts about both the girls names we have - I chose one and DP chose the other - I was told I was an irresponsible parent, ruining a child's life because I want to look cool and one person said if they saw the name on a CV they wouldn't even consider employing them! IMO the names aren't really that 'out there' Sad

KitKat1985 · 20/07/2016 11:43

Hello all.

Solomon sorry to hear your scan has worried you. Hopefully she's just a naturally petite but healthy young lady. I have to say I'm not always 100% convinced by the growth estimates they give though. I was told DD was going to be about the 70-80% centile for weight last pregnancy (causing mass panic I was going to have to try and give birth to a giant baby!) but when she was born she was only 6lb9oz so actually more like the 25th! It must be horrible to have extra anxiety to deal with though.

Re: movements I have an anterior placenta so not feeling much at my front, but getting some very clear kicks to my bladder now. I've only really had that the last week or two though (and being one of the earliest due dates on this thread I'm over 21 weeks now) so please don't worry if you are earlier than me and not feeling much yet.

Really not sure about names yet. DD's name was on a shortlist that we made but wasn't originally my first choice, but when she was born it just suited her. Will probably compile a shortlist of names for baby girl too and see how we feel about it when we meet her.

In other news, I generally love the sunshine but yesterday at work nearly killed me. It was physically hard work and polyester nursing uniform in 30+c heat was too much for me. The only positive thing is that after sitting down covered in sweat my charge nurses have taken sympathy on me and said that I don't have to wear nurses uniform in the heat anymore as long as I wear something work appropriate.

Babydreaming · 20/07/2016 16:07

Had my scan today! Baby was looking nice and healthy, slightly on the larger size which is unexpected considering im underweight! I found out we are having a boy. I had in my head that it was going to be a girl for some reason so came as a bit of a shock! Very happy though. Guess I'll have to start thinking of names from scratch!

Grapefruit8 · 20/07/2016 17:46

Congratulations babydreaming on joining team blue! Think it's going to be scan central over the next couple of weeks, very exciting. Has anyone bought their pram yet? Think we are relatively sold on the idea of an icandy

Bigfam · 20/07/2016 18:23

IslandLife wow those are some seriously ridiculous comments to make about name choices.
Congrats babydreaming. Smile

Azure83 · 20/07/2016 20:51

We had our scan today as well. All looking good and confirmed it's a boy! Otherwise we'd be asking for our money back from the Harmony people! Grin

The boy wouldn't cooperate so I was told to go for a walk and get a sugary drink. Coke on doctor's orders! Was feeling a bit guilty about giving the little one a sugar spike..

So I'm going to come out of the name closet - the name we're thinking about is Conrad. Not very popular in the UK but also pronounceable where I come from. Doesn't feel like a baby name though, more like a grown up name hence we're not 100% sure..

Electra I think Ezra is very cool!

becciandbump · 20/07/2016 21:51

Ive just had 8 or 9 proper kicks! My tummy was actually twitching from the outside! I wish my husband had been in to see it x

BristolLFR · 20/07/2016 22:50

Was someone asking about maternity type bras the other day? I bought this one on the off chance from sainsburys last night and it's really comfy.

The band at the bottom is quite wide so gives good support despite the lack of wiring. They do up to an E cup, and it's only £8

Azure thats a lovely name :)
did anyone else nausea return in the heat?

BristolLFR · 21/07/2016 08:29

19 weeks today, feeling blooming finally!

December 2016 babies - thread #4 - blooming in trimester 2!
TipBoov · 21/07/2016 09:00

Has anyone got any recommendations for a cotton sun dress or similar? I'm struggling in this heat and most maternity clothes are polyester!

I managed to get some linen shorts from new look for £5 which I'm really pleased with!

Also has anyone's feet got bigger? I've gained half a size!

TinySalmon · 21/07/2016 09:07

Morning ladies! Has anyone else experienced a loss of appetite? I'm 18+2 today and last few days have hardly been eating anything to the point I've started to lose weight. I'm just really not interested in food and when I am, I have a few bites and then I'm done. Anyone else? Should I call my midwife and ask her what's going on? Don't think it's normal being well in to the second trimester Confused

bristol what a beautiful bump. Yay!

tip I'd suggest maybe just buying a few sizes up of normal clothes if you can't find any maternity cotton pieces :)

BristolLFR · 21/07/2016 09:15

tip I got some jersey/ tshirt material type dresses from H&M. They're only casual and have a loose elasticated waist, but have pockets too.

They had loads of colours and were only a tenner each. Will see if they have them online

BristolLFR · 21/07/2016 09:17

£13, sorry. I got khaki, black and navy versions in store

Lovewatchingrainfall · 21/07/2016 09:44

Lovely picture Bristol and thank you for the advice regarding bras.

I'm still struggling in this heat however I have just done a mass tidy of the house which has not helped. Weight myself today and have gained no weight which has confused me.
Scan next week and very nervous.
