gorgeous bloody typos....

becciandbump · 04/07/2016 21:38

My sick policy is the same if your doctor signs you off in last month of pregnancy they enforce your maternity leave x

SouthDownsSunshine · 04/07/2016 22:21

My work's policy is the same, but I don't think they put 2 and 2 together last time...!

Thisisbonkers · 04/07/2016 22:52

I now have a pram thing and car seat!

tisilisa · 04/07/2016 23:42

bristol & barking I live in Tenerife so perhaps it works a bit differently. My understanding of the system here is that I can elect if my mat leave starts from the day i stop work or from the day the baby is born... I will check it out though.

I've just found out my 20 week scan is on 26/07 so I'll actually be 21 weeks but at least I now have a date and hopefully we'll find out what we're having 😄😄

Lovewatchingrainfall · 05/07/2016 08:00

So a emotional start to the day I cried watching frozen and then burst into tears when I noticed my cup of tea was cold. Husbands response was just to laugh and my toddler came and hugged me and told me it was okay which made me cry again. Think lack of sleep and hormones are to blame.

We now have our pram, a small pack of bottles some bibs, blanket, and a penguin that rattles.

TinySalmon · 05/07/2016 10:02

lovewatchingrainfall haha Grin that made me laugh. I cried for a good 30 minutes yesterday after an ad for mistreated animals came on TV. I grabbed my dog and hugged him and cried on him... I think he got quite concerned as he was trying to get out of my arms and away from the crazy pregnant lady.

TinySalmon · 05/07/2016 12:03

London ladies: can you recommend anywhere that I can get a private scan within reasonable time/or walk-in?

My private GP practice offers them but the sonographer can't see me till next Thursday. Don't want to wait that long!

Firsttimer16 · 05/07/2016 12:25

tinysalmon yes there's one in Winbledon which does weekend and Evening appointments. It was also the cheapest one I found in London - I've been there twice. It's called www.thegpsurgery.co.uk and is literally about 2 minutes walk from Wimbledon station. I'll probably have one at 17 or 18 weeks as NHS one not til 21 1/2 weeks.

TinySalmon · 05/07/2016 15:19

Thanks firsttimer!! xx

lilydaisyrose · 05/07/2016 17:09

So...at 17w+, I have finally told my kids, my PIL, my folks, my siblings-in-law & my boss. Yahoo! Nice reactions all round.

I am now in no rush to tell anyone else. I will tell work colleagues next week after my boss has told his boss and funders etc. As it's summer holidays here & no school run just now, I will probably wait until after my 20 scan in 2 weeks time to tell everyone else (wider family & friends).

We are having this baby on a major budget and are going to try and get by on a sling, nappies and clothes for the first few months. Oh and we need a car seat too.

Tricky to find nice maternity clothes at my size (22) - I am really struggling as my usual go to shop, Sainsburys, don't do maternity! I have bought a couple of tops from Dotty Ps and a couple of things from Next and am going to try and make do with eBay for the rest.

Has anyone else seen that Maternity Pay is going to be scrapped?
I'm feeling terrified... Could someone more clever than me reassure me that these things take a long time to pass through.
Bloody Brexit Sad

OrianaBanana · 05/07/2016 18:13

Couldn't find anything about that, just found this article saying things might not be quite so bad as we fear after Brexit, like

Take maternity leave: the UK 2006 Work and Families Act extended maternity leave to 52 weeks, which is way beyond the 14 weeks prescribed by European law.

More recently the UK has elected to offer nine months of statutory maternity pay, something that our US counterparts can only dream of.

From the Huff Post

becciandbump · 05/07/2016 18:17

I also read that the uk exceeds what the EU rights are on maternity pay and holidays so I don't see why leaving the EU the government would take a U turn in this if they are already granting leave that is better than what the rest of the EU get x

bumbleclat · 05/07/2016 18:49

Thank you sensible people!

peanutbutter2409 · 05/07/2016 19:41

They're talking about scrapping maternity leave and minimum wage for companies of 3 people and under, that's all.....and its a long way off being approved.

Bigfam · 05/07/2016 20:28

Oh dear god I've got the most painful ganglion in my wrist Sad it's aching all the time but if I use my hand to do anything it's absolute agony Sad praying a trip to my go can resolve it tomorrow

Londonmamabychance · 05/07/2016 21:13

tinysalmon the fetal medicine centre in Harley Street is really good, but a bit pricey, so are most of the good ones in Harley street and other places. But last weekend I went to Ultra Sound direct, they have places all over London, and in fact all over the country, they are quite a lot cheaper and do a range of scans, some v basic ones that are only £59, the reassurance scan, which is only 15 mins and v basic, but tells you any is alive and well. They also do other more detailed ones that are more expensive, but all cheaper than the more fancy places. It's not as fancy and through as the fetal medicine centre, but the lady who did my scan was nice and professional and told me all I needed to know. www.ultrasound-direct.com/mobile/location/london-city

TinySalmon · 05/07/2016 21:43

Thanks london! So glad to know I have options. The only place I knew that did scans was my private GP practice and even though we pay a membership fee they were still asking £110 for a scan..! I just can't justify the cost for 15-20 minutes of their time.

barkingtreefrog · 05/07/2016 21:52

Lovely maternity jeans sourced from Next during lunch hour. Phew. Grin
Managed to go swimming tonight. And put a load of washing in. And I've even managed to watch the Sewing Bee final that I felt too ill to stay up and watch on Monday AND today's Tour de France highlights. Get me! And that's after really bad insomnia last night. It's weird. After a night of very little sleep I seem to cope far better. What's that all about?!?! Hmm

Salmon I'm not London but ultrasound direct were who I used for my scan last weekend, they have clinics all over the country. Definitely the cheapest option I found but staff were lovely And very professional.

StubbleTurnips · 05/07/2016 22:09

barking get you, with all this excess energy! Share it around Wink
We've been painting the kitchen tonight, I'm only trusted to do cutting in at the lower levels as I stepped in a paint tray yesterday. I keep sneaking off for a sit down!

barkingtreefrog · 06/07/2016 08:05

turnips it was short-lived I'm afraid, feeling like death again today....

Hannahcarp27 · 06/07/2016 10:24

Morning!!! Well I'm not feeling very pregnant at the moment also have a real lack of bump. I know I should prob feel grateful but it's just worrying and I really would like a prober little bump to start showing. I just feel like I have a little gut lol!! Glad sickness has gone and tiredness as nice to have my energy back and get back to the gym. How is everyone else bumps and feelings?

OrianaBanana · 06/07/2016 11:49

Hannah I was feeling exactly the same, not as sick, no movement (this is DC2), small bump, v anxious - but I had my 16 week check this morning and she found the heartbeat quickly - it was LOUD - so that was brilliant. I just can't wait for the scan though.

My iron levels are low and I'm being prescribed pills - but my friend says liquid form is better as it won't compound my constipation (and piles Blush) problem - does anyone know if that's right?

Midwife said I could take Movicol or Lactulose though, seemingly daily, which might help. Does anyone have any experience of those?

SouthDownsSunshine · 06/07/2016 15:32

bumble don't worry. One of the tory leadership candidates said this in a blog a few years ago. She's not a favourite to win. It's highly unlikely to come about!

oriana I've got movicol after my recent constipation related issues. I take half a sachet a day.
