Hello everyone :)

Think I'm a bit late in joining up in your club but thought I'd pop in say hello!

I'm due 18th December with 1st baby. Seem to think they've given me a much earlier date than first thought though... I expect he/she will appear around Christmas time or afterwards!

To join in with conversations, we've bought a few baby clothes here and there, some different wipes and nappies to try out see what works, I am considering the chicco next2me cot-bed and the Graco Milestone all in one car seat.

I'll try and keep up with the conversations, it will be nice to chat with other mums and mums to be about things as its all new to me!

billabye · 04/07/2016 14:04

I'm also after the Chicco next2me. It's Prime day on 12th July so hoping it will be on sale then. We'll be using our travel system from first time around. Maxi cosi pebble and Quinny Moodd. To be honest I'm not that keen on the Moodd but we're not forking out again!

firawla · 04/07/2016 14:40

Ooh prime day I forgot about that! Hoping for lots of bargains then. I always had just a normal Moses basket with my others but have heard a lot of good things about the next2me one - will have to have a look.

stripeyorange welcome! Same due date here Smile

stripeyorangesocks71 · 04/07/2016 14:46

Thanks :)

I'm not sure on the prime deals.. Would consider getting the months free trial of family if there was any decent deals on there on 12th July though

TipBoov · 04/07/2016 15:30

Yes I'm holding out for prime day too! I got loads of Black Friday deals with DS1 so I'm hoping there'll be lots of bargains to be had.

Planning on breastfeeding but will get a couple of bottles and some ready made formula in. I struggled last time because I was very ill and needed to use formula, but I had none in and it was a bank holiday - everywhere was shut. I still vividly remember the torture of waiting for the shops to open the next day Sad

goinggrey1978 · 04/07/2016 16:07

Billabye, what's prime day?? I also like the chicco range of cribs, I'm excited to think there's a sale somewhere that I knew nothing about, I'm waiting for August bank holiday sales, black Friday sales and then boxing day sales too, to get lots of bargains I hope!!

billabye · 04/07/2016 16:13

Prime day is a special event for Prime members of Amazon. It's a bit like Black Friday. Last year I got some Circulon pans really cheap and a few other things. Biggish ticket items are often great value but there's no way of knowing what will be in the deal. I've got Prime membership anyway but you can sign up for the 30 days free and then cancel it.

barkingtreefrog · 04/07/2016 17:30

billabye We've got Prime but I've never heard of prime day! I don't read all my e-mails from Amazon.... Is that once a year?
I had to come home from work early today as I felt so ill. Had already sneaked off for a sleep in the carpark at break in the morning but was still falling asleep at my desk. Someone asked me a question and they had to repeat it three times as I just couldn't get my head round what they were saying! Was feeling really hot then really cold as well, hoping I'm not coming down with something.
Went straight to bed and just slept for 2 hours, but still have a headache.Sad

Only two weeks until 20w scan, hopefully everything will get easier after that?!?! I wish maternity leave started now, I can't imagine another five months of feeling like this at work!!
I was asked today when I wanted to start maternity leave, I was thinking 1st December (due on the 9th) but have no idea how realistic this is given how I'm feeling now and what people have told me about the third trimester! Has anyone else thought about it?

stripeyorangesocks71 · 04/07/2016 17:38

I've been thinking about when to start maternity leave and I think I want maximum time with baby so plan on going as close to my due date as possible (18th Dec). But I know what you mean about how you feel now vs how you will feel in a couple of months. I felt absolutely dreadful at around 9/10 weeks and wished I could curl up and forget the world, I'm much better now and I think we will all have ups and downs with all aspects of it! Hope you feel better soon hun

billabye · 04/07/2016 17:44

I think last July was the first time the did it. I don't think I've had an email but I saw a banner on the website the other day advertising it for 12th July.

OrianaBanana · 04/07/2016 18:01

The exhaustion's back - the last two days I've had to have two to three hour naps in the afternoon then a full night's sleep and I'm still like a zombie...

Who can feel movements? I'm 16+3 with DC2 and still can't feel anything Sad

tisilisa · 04/07/2016 18:21

I'm 18 weeks exactly although we've not bought anything yet we have decided on the big items, crib, travel system, high chair etc. We'll wait until after the 20 week scan before we buy anything though as then hopefully we will know what we're having.
I am also intending to bf but will be buying bottles and sterilising equipment as well.

Re maternity leave, I have spoken to my midwife and I can have the doctor sign me off for any time I take off before the birth so that I can use all of my 4 month maternity leave for when the baby is born. As a result I'm planning on finishing work at the beginning of November (Edd: 05/12) and returning in April.

Im definitely feeling movement now too, not all the time but if I lie on the sofa and relax bubba wriggles quite a lot 😄😄😄

mistletoe1 · 04/07/2016 18:25

Hi all, it's been pretty smooth-sailing for me recently so my first time posting on this new thread. Currently 17 weeks. Hope you're all well, i've been reading along!

My exhaustion is back with a vengeance as well Oriana. Having to really be careful about not overdoing it or i'm completely out of it the next day.

Had my (very brief!) 16 week midwife appt this morning and they did use a doppler to find the heartbeat - the decision was given to me as to whether they had a go or not.

My current bugbear is maternity clothing. I am still wearing my normal clothes as my bump isn't too big (boobs are another story...) but as my wardrobe is starting to shrink i've been ordering some online. Depressingly i've sent two entire ASOS orders back as i've hated everything. Has anyone found anything nice, not tooooo expensive that's flattering and not made from horrible fabric? I tend to wear dresses and thought empire-line/skater styles in jersey might be a good option, even in normal sizes for this stage, but I can't find much at all! I think I may end up in jeans and shirts until Christmas Sad.

Firsttimer16 · 04/07/2016 18:57

I'm glad some other people are feeling the rage too - I am scaring myself, I keep just seeing red and saying things without thinking!!

Still got ages to go until my 20 week scan (which isn't actually until 21 1/2 weeks) it's not for another 6 weeks - feels like forever!

I've read a lot about not sleeping on your back in the second trimester. Are people following that quite seriously yet? I am trying to sleep on my side but usually wake up on my back. I've got am eternity pillow but I don't find it super comfortable so wondering if it's really necessary now or if that's later on?

Bigfam · 04/07/2016 19:02

I just bought a few bits on sale at new look, my bump seems to have popped over night! 17+3 today, had some amazing little pokes and prods today Grin

StubbleTurnips · 04/07/2016 19:11

First I am sleeping on my left hand side, IIRC there's a correlation between sleeping position and increased risk of stillbirth. Left hand sleeping all the way for me, we have a family history of late pregnancy losses so I'm scared to sleep any other way.

barkingtreefrog · 04/07/2016 19:23

billabye I've just switched on the TV and seen an advert for Amazon Prime Day! Shock Freaky!!

Mistletoe I bought a pair of maternity jeans from Mothercare in the sale and was very happy with them, but the stitching at the top of the bump elastic ripped in six places as I pulled it up! If it can't cope with my 17w bump how's it going to manage later?!?! So I took them back. Tried H&M and New Look but they didn't have anything (only skinny jeans in H&M and I prefer bootcut). I've ordered a couple of pairs from Next to try.

Tisilisa I thought that if you had any pregnancy related absence at the end you could be required to start maternity leave?

Thisisbonkers · 04/07/2016 19:24

If I go to sleep on my left, I wake up on my front Confused if I sleep on my right, I stay there!

I'm planning to start my actual maternity leave on my due date (which is a Sunday, so my last day will be the Friday) but am taking two weeks holiday before that.

I thought I could feel some movement at the weekend but I'm not sure! 18+1 today.

MrsJoJo · 04/07/2016 19:34

Planning to start mat leave at 36 weeks here. I wasn't working but was so exhausted with DS1 at the end that I slept for 2-3 hours every day. I also got PUPPS at 38 weeks so I want to plan in case I get it again because there's no way I could concentrate on my job with it.

This time I'm working FT, have DS1 to get to school and clubs so I'll need the rest & I want to enjoy some quality time him before baby arrives.

mistletoe1 · 04/07/2016 19:37

Hadn't even thought about Next barking. Will give them a go.

I've been sleeping on my side for the last week or so, pillow between my knees. Sleeping on my back started to feel uncomfortable.

SouthDownsSunshine · 04/07/2016 19:52

Like others, I'm planning on the chicco next to me cot. We had a Co sleeper last time and it worked excellently. I love the moba moses basket but can't justify both.

Just realised we need to buy a new monitor as our last one was crap and has already died after only 2 years!

ASOS were great last pregnancy, but I've also been disappointed this time. I've got some great tops from gap, they look like normal tops, but not convinced they'll last until full term as they don't have much give in them. Someone in this thread recommended mamalicious for a dress, and I've been really pleased with the one I ordered. Jojomamanbebe are also good, but their sizing is huge!

I try to sleep on my left but frequently find myself on my back or right side.

Maternity leave: due 2 Dec. I'll probably take ML from 38 weeks, with annual leave from 35 or 36 weeks. Last pregnancy I was signed off sick from 32 weeks due to complications.

TipBoov · 04/07/2016 19:52

I've been mostly buying maternity clothes from new look, Asda or Mamalicious (JL stock them).

H&M have a couple of nice tops but they come up small so now I feel like a whale!

becciandbump · 04/07/2016 20:15

Ive been really impressed with seraphine for dresses they have a sale on at the moment and the clothes are gorgeous and flattering

BristolLFR · 04/07/2016 20:31

Tisilisa/ barking

I thought if you were I'll before 36 weeks it counted as sickness, but if you're pregnancy-related sick at/after 36 weeks it triggers the start of your mat leave.

Worth checking your works mat leave policy Tisilisa

barkingtreefrog · 04/07/2016 20:52

Yes, Bristol, that's what I understood (from the gov.uk website, not my individual employer).

Ooooo, there's a 50% off sale as Isabella Oliver as well. Between that and Seraphine there are some gorgous dresses out there at the moment!
I've got no occasions coming up to justify the need though, especially as I already have quite a few dresses that will accommodate a sizable bump.

I'm not buying yet, but when I do I'd really like a Chico next2me and a sleepyhead. Heard nothing but good things about the sleepyhead and apparently it fits nicely in a next2me. I'd feel so much better knowing that the baby was less likely to turn over or roll into our bed under the duvet.
