We've just booked 7 nights away mid November - not far just about an hour north of home & still only 45 min's from the hospital in case!! It's just a little cottage Smile

vixarooni · 26/08/2016 21:50

Ita my 30th on the 10th so we are trying to get away. Can't really afford to but stuff it!

What are people up to on the bank holiday? The next one we get we will all be huge!!

Imstickingwiththisone · 26/08/2016 22:44

I'd love to do centreparcs with some of the extended family so will have to look into it. Anyone been into swimming while pregnant? Just wondering if a maternity costume is actually necessary or if the material just stretches over your bump!

Not much happening here, better get making plans before Monday night comes around!

MagpieCursedTea · 27/08/2016 09:36

I've got my BIL and SIL staying with us this weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing them but not looking forward to hosting when I just want to be sat very still complaining about my pelvic pain!

Imsticking I couldn't get my swimsuit over my bump last time so ended up getting a maternity tankini which was a lot more comfortable!

Hanbeth84 · 27/08/2016 10:04

At the moment I work 24 hrs; saturday and sunday nights 8pm - 8am so not really looking forward to the BH weekend. It's also OH's and my dad's birthday tomorrow. Neither celebrates them and my dad is ill but OH wants to go to a car show so will have to get up early for that and then won't be able to vegetate on monday. You're all making me want a babymoom more.

I have started swimming more and wore my maternity tankini last week for the first time. They are huge over the bump! I don't do 2 piece so was paranoid it was coming away but don't think it could with the amount of material! I don't think you absolutely need one it depends on how bump grows and what your body shape is anyway. I have a constant battle to find one that fits being short bodied, small bottom halfed, big bellied and the type of boobs that look indecent most of the time lol. It's odd how bump disapears under water isn't it?

Janubub · 29/08/2016 11:57

We are having a relaxing bank holiday - which means staying at home - which has then turned into gardening and the big housework jobs. Sigh!

Couple of questions for you all:

  1. I'm quite uncomfortable at night - hip pain if I sleep on my right side which then lasts all day, and I keep rolling onto my back which I then have major guilt about as I heard that's bad. I'm thinking about getting a maternity pillow - does anyone have one that they think is good?
  1. I'm 20w now and have a tiny bump. It's rock hard when I'm laid down but kinda squidgy on when I am stood up/sat which makes it look like a lump of lard rather than a bump! I'm starting to get to the point where people might notice and am very self-conscious about this. Before pregnancy I was a size 8 but did gain a fair bit of weight (10lb or so) during the first trimester (felt sick unless I ate carbs...all the time...so many carbs...) so am a size 10 now. The weight gain has slowed enormously (I think my body is using up the stores I built up!) and the rest of my looks less bloated - but my bump is still soft and flabby! When will it start looking like a "proper" bump?!?!?
biscuiteer · 29/08/2016 14:10

Hey there

Can't even remember if I posted when I first got BFP but joining in! Looks like your list has January 16th slot free which is my due date. This is my 2nd baby and boy no. 2 ( found out on Friday )
5 months today. So are we all officially half way through? Back to work tomorrow after lovely holiday time off and lying on bed doing sod all at the moment but will prob cut grass and do housework crap once I can be arsed.
Hope everyone is doing well. I haven't read the full thread yet but will hopefully catch up as we go!

Imstickingwiththisone · 29/08/2016 23:02

Thanks hanbeth and mapgpie, ill keep an eye out for a good deal as seems a bit of a waste of money but I know I'll feel better for it (the swimming).

Janubub ive never tried a maternity pillow but dont recall struggling with sleeping positions in first pregnancy and I've not experienced it yet so I must be one of the lucky ones sorry!
The bump is different for everyone, I was 20 weeks yesterday and I'd say mine has popped out over the past week which im pleased about. If only it could stay this size! Mine is the opposite to you though, squishy when I lie down but hard if I stand up! Until this past week though its just looked like flab with a bit of bloating.

Hi biscuiteer I think you should keep up with this thread I think it's going to take us right through to our due dates ha!

hels18 · 30/08/2016 10:37

I'm feeling so much better this week, not quite as hormonal and short tempered! The rest over the bank holiday did me the world of good.
Only a week until my scan, and then going on holiday for a week - yay!

Janubub I got a long pillow which has been useful to get to sleep with, but I'm a rubbish sleeper and keep kicking it out of bed! I have quite a bit of hip and lower back pain and find if I sit or lie down for too long it is quite painful to get up!

Went to look at all my favourite prams and buggies and ruled almost all of them out excluding the Silver Cross Pioneer. It just seemed so easy to use and practical for us. I think I'm going to order it in the special edition grey colour, as it's quite similar looking to the Joolz that I was looking at, but the wheels are much narrower so will be easier to get on and off trains and around the shops.

MagpieCursedTea · 30/08/2016 16:50

Janubub I've got a lot of hip and pelvic pain and find a body pillow makes sleeping a bit more comfortable. I've also been referred for physio by the midwife which I'm hoping will help as the pain is constant and getting really bad.

Biscuiteer welcome! I'm also expecting my second boy. Hope you're having a good day back at work!

Hels glad you're feeling better. A holiday right after the scan sounds like perfect timing! Good work narrowing down pushchair choices. I'm still trying to convince DH that we should get the Bugaboo one I like even though we have a perfectly good pushchair.

OP posts:
Janubub · 30/08/2016 20:06

I'm considering getting the Summer Infant Body Support pillow...looks like it could be used after the baby arrives for feeding, too? I'm more worried about lying on my back because I've heard that's really bad...

Hels DH and I have also had a quick look at prams. The Silver Cross ones are gorgeous! But I am worried that they can not be turned into a double pram. I don't know if we will want another child and even if we do, if they would be close enough in age to worry about it, but the prams seem so expensive and thought of spending more money later down the line worries me.

biscuiteer · 30/08/2016 20:45

Thanks for the welcomes!

Sorry to hear about the aches and pains -it's really not nice. I tend to sleep on my side with a pillow between my legs and resting my tummy on it at the mo but am suffering more from middle of the night wake ups from around 2 until 3,4,5 am for no reason. Yippee!
First day back at work was fine thanks Magpie, except to hear that things which should have been planned haven't been and mat leave cover hasn't been advertised for my job yet ( and it notoriously takes months for HR to clear people to start, even if they did hold interviews now) which is worrying me and basically nobody knows what they are doing at the moment and I haven't yet been paid for additional increase in hours since June so my mat pay could be affected and manager has ignored my emails to sort it.....colleague friend said I should go all hormonal pregnant woman on his arse. He has til Thursday to sort it and then I will!!

Anyway it's nearly Wed which means GBBO and some kind of cake to eat while watching it. I've only really had savoury cravings so this is my treat time.

Imstickingwiththisone · 30/08/2016 20:45

Anybody looking at slings/carriers? I already have a pram which I don't like tbh but can't really justify the expense of a new one when there is one in perfect working order (I think).

I borrowed a mothercare basic sling off a friend for DC1 and it was far too low down so realise a decent one is needed. Its hard deciding on these purchases while not knowing if you'll actually use it Confused

hopingandwaiting · 31/08/2016 07:13

sticking We bought a carrier on Prime day. Well, we bought 2, tested them both out then sent one back. We have the baby bjorn one (I think that's what it's called) but we will also look into slings for when it's newborn. I believe you can hire them from our children's centre for £5 for 3 months rather than buying one.

LucySB123 · 31/08/2016 07:58

janubub id say get the buggy that suits you whether it's a single or double. Some double buggies are longer/wider/heavier and may not manoeuvre as well. We were contemplating a double when we had DD but got the Cameleon in the end and that worked out well because it took more than a year to conceive dc2 and there'll be 3y btw the two. Even with a smaller gap of 20m my friend's older kid is quite happy standing on a buggy board.
We are researching slings too. Did not get on with it with DD1 but have to persevere this time with a 3yo. The caboo is meant to be excellent for newborns. Do check out sling meets in your area to test a few out.

hels18 · 31/08/2016 09:27

Janubub I did think of that and looked at the Bugaboo Donkey (I think) for that reason, although it just seems so chunky! I wanted something fairly small and easy to get on trains and around London (and the shops!), and we will hope that between a buggy board and a sling we can make it work if we have anymore.

Husband desperately wants a sling as he wants to do a lot of the carrying on walks etc. He found a Stokke version he liked in Mothercare, although they are pretty pricey so looking at a few others before committing!

Janubub · 31/08/2016 11:35

I was thinking less about a "double" from the outset pram and more one where an additional seat could be added later if needed, like the Uppababy Vista. But they're very expensive, and we don't even know if we will need it.

hels18 · 31/08/2016 11:58

The Bugaboo Donkey is a bit like that, as is the Joolz Duo, but they are also pretty pricey unfortunately. Although will it save you money in the long run so you don't need to get another later down the line?

Janubub · 31/08/2016 13:33

That's my thinking - we currently have no plans for a second child but if we did want to have a second, the idea of swapping a pram we've only had for a couple of years and buying all over again irks me. The Uppababy Vista, for example is pricey to start but we could turn it into two seats if we ever needed them. Of course, if we don't ever need them, we've wasted money in the first place..! Anyone got a crystal ball?!?

MagpieCursedTea · 31/08/2016 15:59

I swear it's harder choosing a pushchair than it is a car. I was eyeing up the bugaboos again today. I'm tempted by their double one (the donkey?) as it could be handy with DS and we're considering a third after this (thinking way ahead!)
Does anyone know if that awesome buggy board/seat thing bugaboo makes can be used with any of their pushchairs? I saw it on the Bee which is why I liked it!

OP posts:
Janubub · 31/08/2016 16:36

Oh it's way harder than a car. Cars have 5 seats so you basically pick one with a boot size that suits you and in a colour you like Grin I'm not really sure what's important in a buggy.

LucySB123 · 31/08/2016 16:37

magpie I have a bugaboo cameleon3 and the bugaboo comfort board can be used across the range. But I got the lascal maxi as the comfort board is a bit longer and for shorter adults (like me) it can get in the way.
The donkey is quite a lot heavier than the Cameleon. I think the board works well particularly if the older one can walk/ scoot already.

hels18 · 01/09/2016 16:07

Haha I agree - the car was easy in comparison!!

Rollonjanuary · 01/09/2016 18:40

Hi, can I join?- have been following! Due 27 January, baby no. 3. Most definitely showing! Just to add to the chat about single buggies or ones that can convert to double: we have had an icandy cherry (now raspberry I think? Great for cities) since #1, 4 years ago. We then bought a double (mountain buggy duet- also recommend!) when #2 arrived. My point is we needed both for several months, for times when they weren't travelling together (ie older one at nursery). I hadn't really worked this out beforehand, and we also ended up with a mclaren, covering all scenarios (both together / one or both going different places). And I think we've had our money's worth out of all 3, even before the next one arrives! However, we now have to buy a new car which will take 3 car seats Confused....

hels18 · 02/09/2016 10:23

Welcome Rollonjanuary and congrats on #3! Useful to know that you used 2 buggys for a bit.

I stopped being sick around 15/16 weeks, although was very sick last night after dinner which was a major bummer at 20 weeks! Had a pretty rough nights sleep but am feeling ok again this morning. I'm wondering if it is because I felt a lot of movement and baby was bouncing on my stomach after eating!? My app also tells me that baby is pretty much doubling in size this week, which is probably why my almost non existent bump is now starting to make a very real appearance!
