So need to vent my frustration. Had the blood test results back Tuesday all good low risk was 1:11000 for DS. Not sure of others results or where this sits.

Anyway today I have received another letter saying the first ones were actually incorrect so my DS is now 1:4900 which they still say is low. This is a big difference from the first results. Also after the blood results with have told all friends and family can you imagine if it had come back with incorrect and a high chance aghhhh

Nuttypops · 16/06/2016 11:59

Has anyone had really different results for the downs test between one pregnancy and another? My results came back this morning for this pregnancy at 1:1100 which is apparently low risk, but the results for my first pregnancy two years ago were 1:100000. I know we are very lucky they are both low risk, and that is obviously a different baby/pregnancy and I am 2 years older (now 30) but I am surprised how different they are. The nuchal measurement was fairly similar in both scans. I'm not sure what might cause the difference in the numbers and it just made me wonder.

I hope everyone else waiting for results and scans gets them through soon.

SolomanDaisy · 16/06/2016 12:10

Yes, my last pregnancy I had 1 in 50000 and this pregnancy I got 1 in 280. For me the difference is caused by a combination of my age (5 years older) and Low PAPP-A in this pregnancy. I'm not sure if you're given the hormone results in the UK? I don't think I was. I talked to my midwife about it earlier this week and she was very reassuring, said the risk is still low even though it doesn't feel like it in comparison to last time. She offered to arrange a NIPT test if I wanted to pay for it, but I decided against it.

Nuttypops · 16/06/2016 12:21

Thanks Solomon, that's interesting. I am glad your midwife could chat through things with you and reassure you. It's always useful to be able to do that.

I had my midwife appointment this morning before I got home and saw my results in the post but the midwife couldn't give me any details of blood results etc because she had forgotten I was coming and couldn't access any of my details on the computer as she was about to leave for a clinic, oops! I'm imagine it will be the bloods that have impacted it given the nuchal measurement and my age aren't that different from previous pregnancy.

AppleMagic · 16/06/2016 12:30

I had 1 in 160 in my first pregnancy (still considered low risk but only just) and 1 in 12500 or so in my second. Don't know about this one yet but my nuchal measurement was lower than in the others plus here they looked for (and saw) the nasal bone so I'm not too worried even though I'm older now.

ermmm · 16/06/2016 13:13

I had declined to have any screening done- sis in law who is 30weeks was screened and she too was told different results . Firstly she was apparently high risk and offered further testing and then nope sorry you are okConfused.
Just going to hope and pray for the best here.

SouthDownsSunshine · 16/06/2016 14:34

I had 1:80000 or something with dd, and this pregnancy is 1:120. This time around the nuchal fold measurement was bigger, and my bHCG was raised, plus I'm 3 years older.

Your midwife should discuss your results at the 16 week appointment, if you ask.

underrugsswept · 16/06/2016 14:45

I was 1:8000ish in my first pregnancy. I don't have the figures for this one yet but have been told I'm low risk...

DartmoorDoughnut · 16/06/2016 15:34

I don't think I've had downs results back yet Hmm had he trisonomy ones but didn't see anything on there re downs ... May go and dig the letter back out to check!

AppleMagic · 16/06/2016 15:55

Downs is trisonomy 21 dartmoor. I think people are just using it as shorthand for all trisonomies though because I think you just get an overall risk factor (is that right? I haven't had mine through yet).

DartmoorDoughnut · 16/06/2016 16:02

Oh ok thanks apple last time around I had a downs result and then another separate letter with the other two, 13 and 18 isn't it?

AppleMagic · 16/06/2016 16:09

I think I've only had one risk factor for all three in my last two pregnancies. Maybe it varies by area.

Looseyloo411 · 16/06/2016 18:40

This was mine, dd & ds were a lot lower risk but happy either way

Nuttypops · 16/06/2016 18:53

Ok, sounds like it normally varies quite a bit which I hadn't realised, thank you!

I think it depends on where you are as to what tests they do and how they report them. In my first pregnancy in 2014 the Edwards and Patau tests weren't available, it was only looked for at the 20 week scan. From my understanding, it hasn't been made available in all areas of Scotland yet.

becciandbump · 16/06/2016 19:27

Got mine back today 1:6300 and 1:10000 was pretty happy with that x

Evening all. Been enjoying having dh home, but he's still jet lagged so he's gone up to bed Grin

I have my scan in the morning! Finally!!

puppythedog · 16/06/2016 20:17

Hi all, can't offer any words of wisdom about combined testing BF because we didn't have one.
In terms of percentages even a 1:120 means less than one percent chance. One in five thousand means a 0.02% chance.
Keep hanging in there amazing ladies!! Doing a brilliant job.

bumbleclat · 16/06/2016 21:13

I know this might sound really thick, but if I know I wouldn't do anything about it if the baby had downs or anything, does that mean I shouldn't worry about having the tests?

It somehow feels rude/ personal asking people why they would have the test but should I just leave it because it wouldn't change anything as far as I'm concerned/ would cross bridges if/when I came to them?

(Sorry awkwardly worded)

SolomanDaisy · 16/06/2016 21:31

Because then you and your medical team are then in the best possible position to provide appropriate medical care for your baby and maximise their chance of arriving safely. It's also not just about Down's, it's about the even more serious chromosomal abnormalities where you might need to be prepared for the baby not making it to term alive or having a short life expectancy after birth.

HannahJH · 16/06/2016 21:34

I think if you aren't going to do anything about it then there isn't a great deal of point in knowing UNLESS you feel that you want some time to get your head around the idea and prepare. Although the results aren't all that conclusive so it could just be unnecessary worry HmmX

SouthDownsSunshine · 16/06/2016 21:36

That's a fair question bumble. We wouldn't terminate unless there was a risk to me or the baby would suffer. We chose to have downs screening so we could prepare, but we didn't have the amnio as we didn't want to risk losing either a healthy baby or one with downs.

We chose not to have screening for Edwards and Patau. It sounds counter intuitive, but our reasoning was that any severe problems would be picked up at 20 weeks and dealt with then. A high risk at 12 weeks would put us in a difficult decision place, that we might not need to be in.

It's such a personal decision, go with what feels right for you.

puppythedog · 16/06/2016 21:44

Our thinking is 20 week anomaly takes care of is there a risk to Mum and or baby. We won't do anything different in response or test at 12 weeks so didn't have it done.

peanutbutter2409 · 16/06/2016 21:54

Hi ladies, has anyone started having round ligament pain? It's my first baby so I'm only guessing that's what this is, but I've got a dull ache along my bikini line. I have had it on and off all day but it's not been painful enough to take paracetamol. I'm super conscious of every twinge as I had a miscarriage before this pregnancy.
Everything I've read points to ligament pain - would you say that too?

bumbleclat · 16/06/2016 21:54

Thank you, I genuinely didn't really know/understand it and when I was reading all these numbers/ probabilities I was getting more confused.

Totally each to their own in ALL aspects of everything related to parenting and all its stages -didn't want to seem/be inflammatory.

Thanks

underrugsswept · 16/06/2016 22:05

I had round ligament pain the first time round and I think it felt more like a stitch down the side of my womb. Sitting down for a few minutes helped ease it so I could carry on walking. Mine struck when we were on a holiday so I was very active at the time and probably overdid it.
