nuttypops I really love being a sahm! I don't know when, or even if, I'll go back to work! Like you it's easier for us as a family if I'm available 24/7.
As for family support, short answer, no. 😂
Dh family are errrm shit. Happy to have his brothers kids all day etc but haven't helped me with so much as an hour since dh has been away. Not that I need any help really but an hour to myself every so often would be nice! Realllllyyyyy looking forward to next week when dh gets home 😄

DartmoorDoughnut · 09/06/2016 16:26

I'm a sahm and plan on staying that way til they're both in school then hoping for a part time job or something from home to bring in enough so we can have hols etc Grin

Nuttypops · 09/06/2016 16:58

Hannah, 36 weeks sounds like a sensible time to start maternity leave. You can always put that date down and start earlier if necessary, but you are likely to be glad of the break by then before baby arrives. I finished quite early last time and was only on stat pay because we had to move shortly after DD was born so I had to resign, and it was blissful to have a few weeks of peace before she arrived.

Weechops, that must be very hard with limited family support! How old are you other DC? You must be looking forward to DH getting home!

Dartmoor, that sounds like a good balance if you can stay home until they start school, hopefully it will be easy to find something to fit round it as they get a bit older.

StubbleTurnips · 09/06/2016 17:09

Hannah not a daft question I have a spreadsheet worked it out that I'll finish on 26th Nov - I'm counting my weeks left in work already. I have no loyalty and will be taking 14months off. This may leave works out really well as I'll carry over leave from this year, accrue leave / BH next year and be able to take it all at the end of my maternity leave. No work in 2017 for me!! Grin

Thisisbonkers · 09/06/2016 17:35

hannah in order to maximise my time off, I've said for my maternity to start on my week of birth but planning to save two weeks holiday to take before, so I'll finish week 38. But that means few holidays between now and then!

BristolLFR · 09/06/2016 17:38

Hi, I'm new!

Had my scan today and finally allowed myself to believe it's real. Had a MC at 9 weeks in Jan and have been panicking ever since we found out this time round!

Had scans at 7 and 9 weeks this time and although I saw a heartbeat, I was convinced I'd have a MMC this morning. But baby was there, bouncing around with a lovely heartbeat. I've exhausted myself today with the excitement now!

My dates put me at 12+1, but my scans put me at 13 which I'm quite relieved at. Due date is 15 December and I'm in north Bristol.

I'm not sure of the protocol so let me know if there's anything I need to read / share to join the party?

Aware I've just barged in with my excitement, love to all who are still waiting for the reassurance of the scan, or who have had the news none of us want xx

Becci I hope they don't cut you're pay as it's hard enough anyway. Hopefully everything will work out now.

weechops · 09/06/2016 17:49

nuttypops they're 9, almost 6 and 2 1/2. They're fab kids and we have a great routine so just plod on really 😂

Looseyloo411 · 09/06/2016 18:58

Sahm here too, eldest is starting school in sept so had planned to go to work then as childcare wouldn't have been so bad for 1... And now we are here Wink my friends convinced I just didn't want to be go back to working Grin

Bigfam · 09/06/2016 19:28

BristolLFR you're not barging in lovely, glad everything is well with your pregnancy and sorry for your loss in January.

MrsJoJo · 09/06/2016 19:40

Welcome Bristol!

I'm currently aiming to work until 36 weeks but take 2 weeks of annual leave and start mat leave at 38 weeks... I was quite ill from 38 wks with DS so this might not work!

Luckily I work very locally (most of the time) and my manager is already starting the ball rolling for my mat cover (I'm the only one in the business with the skill set and 18 months ago one of our HR team gave birth prematurely a week before before 4 week handover period so they are now very cautious!). It means I'll go when the time is right for me!

Financially, gawd knows! We've printed out all the paperwork but we're moving in 3 weeks so focussing on that first before worrying about finances too much!

pacificlass · 09/06/2016 19:48

Had 12 week scan yesterday. All looks good. Am repeating the Harmony test- turns out you need 5% fetal DNA and I only had a low reading of 2.7% so they couldn't assess anything. Told my boss at work today- I transferred offices from another country in March so although very polite, I don't think he was best pleased! I have to formally let work know before 16 weeks which seems early, doesn't it?

barkingtreefrog · 09/06/2016 20:13

pacific I thought it was 15 weeks before due date you had to tell your employer, not counting from the start?
I've already told mine as I'm the only person who does my job, so they need to employ someone to replace me in time for me to train them up.
My edd is 9th Dec and in my head I want to start maternity on 1st Dec. No idea how realistic that is!

Grapefruit8 · 09/06/2016 20:47

Just to let you know all good with our scan today Smile baby kicking away, so clear I was amazed how much we could see! Put me at 12&2, due date is 20th Dec. Please can I be added to the list when you're back from your jolly hols! Biscuit

flyawayblue · 09/06/2016 20:55

Lovely to hear about good scans and to have others at KCH. I've still got a week to go to my scan and am impatient.

Not told work yet, told them at 12 weeks last time and they didn't manage to advertise until after I'd gone on maternity leave! It really stressed me out as I was worried for my team. I'm sure it will happen again...

Our maternity pay is okay, not great but more than smp. Had a talk about saving more while pregnant to help cover things.

TipBoov · 09/06/2016 21:01

Lots of lovely scan news, and welcome to the newcomers to the thread!

kittyscot81 · 09/06/2016 21:51

Lots of lovely scan Pics so thought I would share mine (which was yesterday). Small Nuchal fold measurement 1.4 and they said the baby looked good (huge relief). Still worried about the blood test but it was wonderful to see him or her for the first time! Wish I could just drop in for a look when I feel like it!

Oh forgot to mention my DD is the same 10th Dec!

HannahJH · 09/06/2016 22:11

Thank you so much for All your comments about maternity leave and your plans, makes me feel ok that what I'm thinking is pretty normal! Thisisbonkers I was thinking of saving the annual leave (I've only used 1/2 say since January so far so still have 22.5 to use this year!!)

Congrats to everyone with the scan pics and hello to you Bristol!! X

TipBoov · 09/06/2016 23:06

I got my appointments through for antenatal workshops at the hospital. I didn't do the NHS courses last time, and did NCT, but unfortunately my local NCT branch doesn't offer refresher courses.

Has anyone done the NHS courses before? I'm most interested in the active birth workshops I think - I want to try and avoid an epidural this time round!

Led2012 · 09/06/2016 23:24

I have not posted on here since initially introducing myself. Although I have a beautiful DD I have since had 2 MC, one being a MMC therefore wanted to get my 12 week scan done before getting too involved and jinxing myself.
Well had my scan today and all is as it should be. So happy, I can now start to enjoy my pregnancy. My due date has now move to 19th Dec.
Congratulations to all those who have had their scans. Exciting times ahead Smile

ermmm · 10/06/2016 03:24

Am I the only one with a 12 week scan still due?
Booked in for Monday 13th.

Still feeling sickly. Had to get up to cook 'breakfast' for Dc and dh who are fasting today- can't go back to sleep now and feel as if I'm going to throw up😩.
Everyone else munched food and already knocked out again!

bumbleclat · 10/06/2016 05:45

Ermmm Mines on the 13th, it's a good sign we're still sicky.
Mines tailed off a little bit but still threatens when I brush my teeth and stuff.

Can't your DH cook breakfast?
I haven't been in our kitchen for over 6 weeks the smell of the fridge is enough to make me vomit, (it's white clean too)

barkingtreefrog · 10/06/2016 06:08

Ermm there's no way I'd be getting up at 3am to cook if I wasn't fasting! If your dh is getting up anyway surely he can cook his own food?!

I'm considering getting a doppler in an attempt to reduce my anxiety/paranoia but I don't know if it would send me over the edge if I couldn't find a heartbeat! Has anyone else got one/considering getting one?

Mejse · 10/06/2016 06:12

erm I still haven't had my scan yet. It's on the 20th I think I might be the last one.

I had to go for a blood test yesterday so that they have the results for that by the time I have my scan. I have my first appointment with the midwife 17th of July. They sent me a form to fill out online all about my lifestyle and asking how worried I was about different things. I'm not sure how any of it compares to the English system.

I'm still studying hard for exams but I check in most days to see how everyone is doing. It's so nice to see all of the scan pictures, it makes me happy, excited, nervous and a little jealous all at the same time. My emotions are all over the place at the moment!
