Since we only have about 15 posts remaining I thought I'd make up the new one.

Lots of babies have arrived already but still plenty of us pregnant too. Here's to our June 2016 babies Smile

Can anyone tell me about a hospital Waterbirth? I am sure I planned one with DS but it was 4 years ago..... And then I had PE so was straight into the consultant led ward with no access to the pool.
This time I just haven't thought about it and I have no idea if I want one or not!!!

GrubbyWindows · 02/06/2016 22:18

mindful it will vary by hospital- mine does a fortnightly talk, although they don't do tours as the water rooms are generally in use!
Have you spoken to your midwives about it?

emma85x · 02/06/2016 23:07

laughing 16/6/16 is a cool date - it's also my due date! Although 6/6/16 would be better for me - keen to have baby here now!! Bring out the big guns tomorrow - clary sage!

Mindful hoping to have one at St Thomas'. While we were waiting to see the head honcho midwife last week we were lucky enough to get a tour of the birth centre and pool rooms. They look amazing!

Eastend2015 · 02/06/2016 23:13

Last day at work tomorrow. 38 weeks on Monday, I can't beleive it!

MindfulBear · 03/06/2016 00:08

Grubby we mentioned the pool and they said to ask about it when we call in but I have no idea whether I would really like one or not.... Wondering how other people have found them and how long they were in the water, when they went in and whether they actually birthed in water.......

I hear some people hate it so get out again!

MollieRos · 03/06/2016 02:34

Congratulations to all the new arrivals! Julie what a cutie you have there Smile

JellyBaby26 · 03/06/2016 05:19

I was in the water for 6 hours when I had dd. I can't imagine doing it without it. Sadly she struggled to really come out so for the last few pushes I had to use the bed.
The water really took the pain away for me, it was lovely!

clarish84 · 03/06/2016 08:13

Eastend2015 · 03/06/2016 09:12

Hurrah for that laughing! Although I'm sure ours will be a late one, no signs of anything happening at all really. Even that wierd nerve pain has gone and I'm not so tired. I feel like a massive fraud!!

clarish good luck on your sweep! I have mine booked for the 11th! Let us know what it's like & fingers crossed it starts something off!
Yay for all you ladies who have finished work. Enjoy your resting time :)

Sciatica has reared it's ugly head here! That coupled with braxton hicks is knackering me out!

MagicDucky · 03/06/2016 10:00

Morning! Does anyone know when is the earliest they will give you a sweep? I'm now really struggling to walk I'm in that much pain from PGP. I've been getting really sore braxton hicks for the last couple of days, I'm still being sick and I'm just shattered. I'll be 38 weeks tomorrow and I'm so ready to have this baby. I know that sounds awful, I should wait until baby is ready but I'm just so down with all of this.

bikingintherain · 03/06/2016 10:11

magic, here they won't do one until 40 weeks, and I vaguely remember last time in England it was 40 weeks too. My pgp was awful around 38 weeks but it has gradually improved so you might not be like this for the whole time. But I'm with you about being done. Yesterday is not soon enough.

jellybelly85 · 03/06/2016 10:15

Magic I had 38 weeks appointment yesterday and they said they will offer sweep from 40 weeks onwards in the community (and will automatically be booked in for induction when 10 days overdue). Worth asking what your local policy is at your 38w appointment?

Grubby welcome to the 16.06.16 due date club Wink

Mindful I recently enjoyed reading this thread on waterbirth experiences. I'm also hoping for a hospital waterbirth - I think it'll suit me, but if not I shouldn't think there would be an issue with changing my mind.

dollydaydream84 · 03/06/2016 12:43

Ducky it totally depends. If I wanted a VBAC this time they talked about giving sweeps from 37 weeks to get me going naturally. With my first, they wouldn't even entertain it until 40 weeks. I had 4 last time, all 4 times they said my cervix wasn't ready and then the day after the last one I just randomly went into labour. Hope you feel better soon, I was sick again first thing this morning and feeling generally hot and rotten today!

IlovePies big hugs hope the sciatica improves soon xx

earlgreydrinker · 03/06/2016 13:32

mindful I laboured in the birthing pool last time. It was lovely. It was warm and relaxing and I found it very comfortable. I will do the same again this time hopefully (unlikely to deliver in pool due to complications last time at end otherwise I would).

bikingintherain · 03/06/2016 14:02

So I've now got my bed lifted in beer crates. Apparently my bed was too low and because of the design of it I couldn't just get 'feet extenders'. Apparently beer crates is a common solution for this problem. But I have to admit sourcing 8 beer crates was not on my list of things to do!

laughingGnomette · 03/06/2016 15:01

Thanks ladies! 16.6.16 is a great date to have a birthday :)

Eastend - at least if your baby makes you wait for a little longer you can enjoy some time to yourself doing what you fancy. :)

Magic - I'm having a sweep at my obstetrician appointment next week (at 39 weeks) to see if they can get things started naturally but as with dolly, this is a vbac attempt and I don't remember being offered one until at least 40 weeks with my first. I would add that my sweep last time (at 40 weeks) did absolutely nothing unfortunately. My waters broke six days later. Sorry you're feeling so uncomfortable xx

biking - I love the beer crates idea!!

clarish84 · 03/06/2016 16:17

Well had my sweep was not as bad as I thought it would be . I nearly cried when I saw the guy who was doing it had the biggest hands ever lol was uncomfortable but not to bad . They didn't sound to hopeful it was going to work . Booked in for next Friday for an other then they want book induction. My dh felt really sorry for me said it was hard to watch me and not help bless how's he gonna cope in labour room x but I did get some pretty flowers out of it Flowers

I had a sweep last time at 40 weeks. It kicked everything off. So fingers crossed for everyone having them.

AmIseeingRight · 03/06/2016 20:37

After a tough few days with feeding, I was left with sore & cracked nipples and a dehydrated baby, almost gave up on BF esp coz we wernt getting any sleep.

I used the hand pump from AVENT but it was too tiring and once I gave baby the breast milk from the bottle it got even harder to BF him. My midwife suggested I get an electric coz he still wasn't getting enough BF so I got the LANSINOH (they are one sale @ mothercare) and while I was there got some MEDELA nipple shields to try out. It's the best decision - they are £8.99 and have saved my BF. My MW yesterday was excellent and showed me how to properly hold for an easy latch and it's been brilliant. He's BF and is such a happy baby again. We finally got sleep and I'm also expressing to top up as she has me doing a 2-3 hrs feed, I even have to wake him if he's sleeping as his weight had dropped more than the acceptable 10%.

Anyways I can only say how great Medela shield have been. Just having a pain free experience is fantastic. Highly recommend esp if you have flat nipples or sore/cracked ones where baby isn't latching properly.

AmIseeingRight · 03/06/2016 20:42

Hmm my first message seems to have disappeared lol anyways it said "congratulation to the new mums and FX for all those who are due soon. And just wanted to say that the electric pump from LANSINOH is great and easy to use also on sale @ mothercare & JL which is very nice

AmIseeingRight · 03/06/2016 20:47

Also I had a sweep @ 39wks to try and avoid induction at 40wks and by 39 +3, I was 3cm dilated (though wasn't feeling any contractions) and did not need the induction. So it does work.
