Oh, by the way. If anyone is shuddering at the cost of new pushchairs, my mum volunteers in an Oxfam shop and has just "baggsied" a Graco travel system. Said the fabric was grubby, but she took it home, washed it and the frame and said it's perfect. Frame not bashed at all, so said it can't have been used much. £10! She's just going to keep it at her house in case I don't want to bring a whole load of stuff on the plane when I go to see her, but it's perfectly good for full time use IYSWIM. She also got a nearly-new travel cot for £5 and has cleaned it up to leave at her house and often gets brand new baby things in, so is currently collecting unisex stuff for me. She doesn't want to know the flavour... And also is trying to convince me to take a brand new cradle back on the plane with me. Still in the box, she says. Bit sad as I wonder if it was for a baby that died.

My tip, if money is tight, would be to make friends with an older lady in your local charity shop, if you want to pick up a good bargain. i.e. The nearly new stuff. My mum keeps things aside for the regular or really nice customers and keeps an eye out for things they're looking for. She does a lot of sorting out of the stuff that comes in, so often sees things first. She always pays for everything by the way... I wouldn't like anyone to think she just nabs stuff that people donate.

Heating is working again, hurrah! (new boiler needed imminently though - not so good), ceiling is patched and will be replasetered today. All is well in the Bluebird household.

Anneme - your stolen stump made me snort!

I'm off to spend the day in the library getting my head down while DP supervises the works at home.

Have a good day all

Juicylucytoo · 19/01/2007 09:32

Man what jobs do you guys have that you're all finishing so early. I've still got 72 days to go and that's with taking 3 weeks holiday!!

Aprilmeadow - If it's any consolation I'm only healthy when DH is home. He makes lots of things that are good for the baby, whether I really fancy them or not!

Good news on the house front. Apparently we are blue chip customers so our building society have fast tracked our application and the survey has been arranged, which means our shtty estate agents (foxtons) can now take it off the market and stop being a royal pain in the are.

Off to Belgium tomorrow in a much destressed state. Now the wind just has to stop blowing so the Eurostar will run on time

SKYTVADDICT · 19/01/2007 09:53

Morning all

I have 18 days left at work after today (only work Thursday and Friday) and leaving on 23 March.

Cough/tonsilltis being a real pain, I used to think I had pelvic floor muscles. I had to get out of bed last night to change my underwear as I kept wetting them every time I coughed. Must practice those pelvic floors more!

Hope you have a good weekend JL, relax and enjoy.

largeginandtonic · 19/01/2007 11:21

How many day left to work....hmmmm.....let me seeee.....115 I want a day of.....>

Hugs walking round with a bike helmet on... Very funny. I have been going through the house like a whirlwind this morning, have hoovered, cleaned all bathrooms, moped kitchen floor and just lifted Bounty cake out the oven, it smells very nice. I have yet to ice it, but it's for my mom's birthday tomorrow so i cant eat it.

I think my folks are arriving after lunch ish and dh should be home by tea time No company for weeks and sundenly they all come at once!

Benson im glad your ceiling is patched up, i love going to the library to work. So peaceful, no phone calls, mail drops, children, heaven.

TYG bargain on the pushchair front! I always look in charity shops to see if im lucky enough to find an old silvercross pram. You never know.

How are the memeber profiles going?

LupinsBigLump · 19/01/2007 11:32

Ooooohhh very excited - went to John Lewis just to have a nosey at the micralite pushchair in case a cheap second hand one came up - anyway it was the last one left display model - got the pushchair and carrycot for £129.50 would have been £269. originally so pleased am hoping my mum will offer to pay but I dont think that will be until after babies here, my friend was on the phone telling me how impractical it was but i wanted it sooooooo much, they are delivering at the end of the month then just have to hide it from dp, dd has been sworn (via thorntons choc) to secrecey lol

Hope ev1 is ok will catch up on thread later, just had to share my excitment

largeginandtonic · 19/01/2007 11:51

I share your excitment Lupin, i am a bit of a pushchair addict myself. I have had far too many, my last exp used to go nuts if i got another one. Luckily this time dh is new to all of this so shares my excitment and actively encourages me...LOL

It is fab, heee, heee

Juicylucytoo · 19/01/2007 12:05

The pushchair thing is a minefield of info and weighing up. Not sure I'm up to it yet. Still recovering from buying nappies, oh yes and a HOUSE!!

Don't even know where to start with the whole pros and cons of pushchairs. Really like the bugaboo, but think I'm just believing the hype, and they're sooooo expensive.

BefnalBub · 19/01/2007 12:13

afternoon all! think I managed to create a basic profile with my scan photos 14\21 weeks! very excited!

my scan photo

largeginandtonic · 19/01/2007 12:28

The bugaboo does look cool but if you push one they are very low and all rickety. I think if i was buying a pram to see me through till the baby was 3 or so i would buy a loola with the carrycot attachment, you can buy a car seat to match that fits on to the chassis too. So useful, i cannot stress that enough! The maxi cosi speedi sx is also very good and comes with a matching carrycot and car seat that all fit on to the chassis.

maxi cosi

maclare

Loola

Jane

These are my faves, can you tell im bored.....

largeginandtonic · 19/01/2007 12:34

Lovely clear photos, Befnal! The baby looks like it was very well behaved.

Im off to ice my cake now, hope the links help any of you faced with buying your first buggy. I found it a mine field and didnt have a bloomin clue when i had the twins! I bought this enourmous double, side by side thing that was sooo heavy. It didnt fit in any where and when i put it in the boot of my car (little 205 then) i could see nothing at all out of the back window. It was hell.

JonahB · 19/01/2007 13:00

Hello ladies,

I'm having the "do I buy a double buggy" dilemma. Can't decide between buying one, or just buying a Techno (not sure how we've managed to go so long without one) and seeing what happens after the 1st 6 months. Do any of you who have already got 2 LO's approx 2 years apart have any good advice?

I do feel for all you 1st timers trying to pick a buggy. It is an absolute minefield and everyone will give you differing advice. I love my M&P Pliko, some people agree with me, some hate it. I wasn't that keen on the Bugaboo and was definitely put off when I realised that 2 small pieces of plastic to attach a car seat to the main frame was about to set me back about £40. FFS!!!! That's criminal robbery!

Anyway, more importantly, Bounty Cake!! Never heard of it but now I definitely want to make one. Actually I want to eat one, but the necessicity to make it first is there.. LG&T tell me more about your lovely sounding cake....

Hmmm...tapping fingers on side of keyboard.... I think there's one piece of Stollen left in the cupboard with my name on it. That will have to suffice. For now...

Frenchsmallfry · 19/01/2007 13:16

Great pics befnalbub. Will do my member pg later, promise.

Lg&t I hope you have a lovely weekend with you mum and dad and dh home. Thanks for the links on the buggys, it is a mine field, we are soooooo confused as to what to do. Swaying towards having to have a double though, just doon't think I'll cope with M, without being able to strap her in.

A is doing better thanks AM, he is having his stitches out today, on his Birthday, lol.

Took m swimming this morning, she really enjoyed it so have to make an effort to keep it up.

Frenchsmallfry · 19/01/2007 13:23

jonahB ds was 2yrs 7mths when dd was born. We coped fine then with a boggie board. This time however dd is only going to be 22mths when this one arrives. I don't think I'll cope with out a double this time round. It is soooooo annoying though as I have 3 pushchairs already.

AM what are your thoughts, J is only going to be just over Two?

largeginandtonic · 19/01/2007 13:42

I have posted a pic of the bounty cake for further torture

YUM

I will do some double buggy research now for you both

twelveyeargap · 19/01/2007 14:00

Do Boggie boards come with a potty attached?

I heard the Phil and Ted's twin thingy is good. Not that I know anything about having two kids close in age!

If anyone is thinking of a Bugaboo, I think someone on here tried out the Hauck Infinity. Also known as Jeep or I'coo Infinity. Looks awfully similar to a Bugaboo to me and about a third of the price.

Have yet to find the time to go to the shop and have a look myself. There are few outlets that aren't online. The icandy Apple looks like a cross between a bugaboo and a regular pushchair/ carrycot combo, fits a maxicosi car seat and has a three-wheeled jogger "option". Sounds good, but obv might be crappy to use... Will also try out a mountainbuggy urban and let you know.

I LOVE coconut. Mouth is watering. I often have a fruit/ crunchy cereal stuff/ yoghurt combo thingy for breakfast and ALWAYS have a spoon of dessicated coconut on top. YUM. I've just had three slices of pizza and a bit of Starbucks Rocky Road though. I might start to oink if I have a Bounty.

largeginandtonic · 19/01/2007 14:15

FSF this is a fave doubleof mine apart from the phil and teds which i have and LOVE. It is bloomin pricey though. This one Bebeconfort is hard to get here but is afrench make so should be easy and probably cheaper to get in France.

Bebeconfort

That one you can remove the 2nd seat and put a buggy board on that comes specially for it. The creatis car seat can also be put straight on to the chassis, very useful.

I also like this

Jane

This one has soooo many combinations and when all the car seats/seat units are off the chassis is not very big at all. The 3 wheel version looks a bit tricky if you are up and down kerbs and bumps alot.

twelveyeargap · 19/01/2007 14:25

LG&T, how come you're getting a new pushchair, rather than using the Phil and Teds then? is it too heavy or summat?

KKK Ladies

Can't believe I haven't owned up to this before. I travel to work on the bus and sail past Harrods every day. Very happy to do a KK run and mail some off. WHO WANTS WHAT??

LupinsBigLump · 19/01/2007 14:32

LGT I am a total pushchair addict - think I am on about 10 with dd, not all at once of course, which is why i'm keeping this one quiet - he will go mad if he thinks i've started already lol - I do have the maxi cozy atm, but its well used and too big for the bus, love the bugaboo but cant spend that much atm, very much like jane 3 wheelers and carerra, maclarens good practical buggies but bit dull, loola I like and will probably join the list of might aquires, also like the bebecar reversus, had bebecar at raider and it was fab

Also I am moving next door to LGT as I must eat all her baking - or at least pinch loads of recipes

Befenalbub, cant seem to get your picci up

Ended up in Thorntons while in town, they are doing bags of factory clearance chocs - all thats wrong is they are not perfect looking, big bag £1.99 - will swop half for some soup and bounty cake pls lol

My back is killing today, got up and it was agony really quickly, must rest after school run

largeginandtonic · 19/01/2007 14:41

Cinnamontam im late for school run so i will make this quick, I WOULD LIKE ALLLLLLL THE KK'S PLEASE.......!!!!!

TYG im keeping my phil n teds, i just want a silvercross cos they are sooo lovely and nice to push. Only good for around here not putting in the car. The Quinny Zapp i got is for Hugs now and the baby later while i do the school run, the P&T is too heavy to lift in and out of the car for a quickie trip.

I am a pushchair freak too......hee, heee As you can tell by now im sure

Juicylucytoo · 19/01/2007 14:43

LG&T - you are both a meany and a star at the same time.
Meany for the cake. My mouth is watering over that glazed looking picture of scruminess! You are clever. I think you could give Nigella a run for her money on the domestic goddess front all the lovely things you make.

And a star of course (which is your true self) for the bugie starting point.
Once I'm back after the weekend I intend to start my research in ernst (as it will take me 4 months to reach a decision). House 2 days. Pushchair 4 months. Sounds completely rational to me

Befnalbub - you are so organised getting your piccies on the members board. I keep forgetting to bring mine to work! Will post mine next week so we can compare the Royals photographic work!!

twelveyeargap · 19/01/2007 14:57

Will ask mam to keep an eye out for a silver cross for you LG&T. She def would have mentioned one by now if one had come in though.

Now me understandy about the Quinny. (Bit slow). I really like this iCandy Apple I'm looking at. It's 13kg though, with the carrycot on. Chassis alone is light though. I'm not likely to be public transport though, and have no school run... Will know more when I actually see them and push them about a bit.

DH wants to invite HOARDS of people over again this weekend and go out tonight. At least he's actually here I suppose. Have done a deal and said I won't mind as long he helps me with some boxes for an hour before he goes out tongiht and comes buggy shopping for an hour tomorrow.

Just had a reply from Mumsnet re the weightwatchers advertising....

'Thanks for your mail and kind words about the site. We do take your point with regards to the weightwatchers advertising. At the moment it's technically difficult to specify what goes up where as we outsource the advertising but it's something we're looking into and will let you know if we make any changes.'

Juicylucytoo · 19/01/2007 14:58

Aahh- I take it all back as you're offering it round
