I doubt I'll work again until we have school aged children, so it's going to be several years for me. I do not plan on nannying again though, so need to figure out what I'm going to retrain in. Goodness knows. I'll be late 30's by then Confused

bobcat85 · 18/06/2016 09:08

I don't think I'll be returning to work, the journey adds about an extra hour to my day. I normally leave the house at 7.30am and don't get home until 6pm so I don't think it'll be feasible. I could ask for part time hours but I don't think I could do my current job part time. Plus childcare costs would probably make it pointless for me to work so I probably won't work for a couple of years after the baby comes.

We've got a shortlist of names including Charlie, Oscar, Felix and Ben. I think we're leaning more towards Oscar but I do really like Felix.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend.

Spottyladybird · 18/06/2016 09:09

I'm a teacher and have found it really hard since having DD. I work three days but the evening working stretches over 5 or 6.

Considering just leaving but have missed the deadline for the summer so not sure what to do. Think I might have to speak to the head.

Canters15 · 18/06/2016 11:11

I would quite like to not return to work. Definitely going back part time. Dh is currently interviewing for a role in Singapore and part of me hopes I can be an ex pat wife for a couple of years whilst I have our babies. Blush shocked at my lack of ambition now compared to me a few years ago!

coppergrey · 18/06/2016 11:12

Canters I'm exactly the same... I spent 5 years building up my business and now I'm like... meh, do I really have to keep doing it?!

Must be the hormones Wink

Ameilius · 18/06/2016 14:33

canters and copper I think I'm like the opposite to you! I always thought I'd love to stay at home and loved babies and children, I've worked in nurseries and am now a teacher but last time I went back to work part time and shared the rest of materity leave with DH at 4mths at loved it! I found the days at home very hard tbh. This time I'll be at home for atleast a year and I hope I'll enjoy it more! I'm going to make sure I've lots of activities to get to and stuff to get me and the baby out the house!

Fedupithink · 18/06/2016 14:53

Can I ask those of you not planning or hoping not to return to work - is this your first?

This is my first and I'll be going back, albeit hopefully only 4 days, but logistically and financially if we have another soon after I'd have to stop.

Can I ask what you are planning to do with pension contributions etc for the period you aren't working? Working until I'm 70 genuinely scares me so I'm wary of not contributing anything to the pot if I stopped? Not sure it's be feasible to pay in at my current rate tho with no income?

onthemetro · 18/06/2016 16:56

I'm hoping to take the full year off (and I'm also hoping that I can keep all of my holiday and take all of that in addition) and then my boss said I can come back one or two days a week if I want, which I probably will.

I'm listening to some music on my laptop and the speakers are right next to my belly and baby is going crazy! I can feel so much movement, it's so freaky Grin

freerangeeggs · 18/06/2016 17:08

Hi everyone, I hope you don't mind if I join in? I'm due at the beginning of November with my first, who seems to be a boy.

I'm living in the Middle East so I don't get much maternity leave - about 3 months total, including unpaid leave. I'll be going back to work but childcare here is really affordable so we're hoping to get a nanny during the day.

Has everyone had their anomaly scans? I've had tons of scans until now - about four so far! Which seems to be the norm here - and the doctor did a few measurements at each. He seems to be quite happy everything's fine, but I was wondering how long the anomaly scan usually takes?

freerangeeggs · 18/06/2016 17:10

Also, has everyone had their whooping cough/flu jabs? I wasn't offered it but the gynaecologist was quite happy to prescribe it when I asked. I'm having to trek across the city to pick up the prescription though, which is a pain... I do miss the NHS sometimes!

Woody096 · 18/06/2016 21:03

I am self employed but aim to return to work part time after 6 months, dependant on baby really.

I think I have my whooping cough booked in for 28 weeks!

Going to mamas & papas tomorrow to buy are pram. Have a voucher, if you spend a gazillion pounds they give you two pounds off! Every penny counts!!!

needanewjob · 18/06/2016 21:18

I've not had my whooping cough yet... I think it's offered around the third trimester in the UK. In terms of pension contributions I do need to sit down and work out where I am at some point. This is my third child and I've paid some degree of NI on and off since I was a teenager... I think even if I take two years off then go back I would potentially be looking at 20 more years of contributions before I'd be in a position to retire so I'm not overly concerned... Plus the state pension will be nothing for our generation so far more worthwhile I think to invest in a private pension/savings account

Spottyladybird · 19/06/2016 07:03

Our GPs allows you to have whooping cough from 20 weeks onwards (after scan) so need to ring and book mine.

AlbusPercival · 19/06/2016 07:47

I have my whooping cough booked in for 24 weeks. Only because that was the first appointment the surgery has

BeedlesPineNeedles · 19/06/2016 08:22

bobcat I really like Oskar and Felix too. I was on a Swedish baby names website yesterday trying to get some inspiration, it had a thing where it suggested baby names for you (based on the parents names) it suggested Fritz for a boy and Fanny for a girl Shock :o

I asked my mw about whooping cough vaccine on Friday, apparently pregnant women don't get given it here.

smellsofelderberries · 19/06/2016 11:41

I will be getting mine (the WC vaccine) sometime between 28-32 weeks. DH is getting a booster, as is my Mum, since we will be staying with her before baby can have his jabs. Might be able to get them done over Christmas when we're with he'd, depending on when he actually decides to make an entrance.

needanewjob · 19/06/2016 13:45

Hee hee I love Fritz and Fanny!! Hmm you are all making me think that I need to crack on and book my jab in case they can't fit me in

needanewjob · 19/06/2016 16:52

Just back from the cinema with DH and little man. We went to see Secret life of Pets (was quite funny, our little boy giggled all the way through) and had my first few kicks that could be felt from outside my tummy! Was lovely and makes it seem all the more real.

BeedlesPineNeedles · 20/06/2016 06:06

need feel free to use either - I won't think you're stealing my baby names! :o

needanewjob · 20/06/2016 10:54

beedle wow thanks 😜.

tiredmumrighthere · 20/06/2016 11:14

Welcome free range Smile

I've started feeling movement now which is a relief!

19 weeks today, it's flying by Shock time needs to slow down!
Hope everyone had a good weekend x

CocklesandMussels · 20/06/2016 13:39

Hello all, may I join you? I'm coming up to 20 weeks, only just starting to feel confident enough to believe that things might be ok (previous miscarriages). Fuzzy I remember you from TTC thread, congrats!
Oh and if you wanted a token set of twins on the thread them I'm your woman. DCDA, we're not going to find out the sexes.

coppergrey · 20/06/2016 15:31

Oh lovely news, Cockles! So nice to have some twins here.

If you're feeling movement, have you been able to recognise a pattern? I think I can feel her moving about (feels like the swooshing snooker ball described up thread!) but it's quite random. Usually in the evening but I feel it at other times, too!

Canters15 · 20/06/2016 16:41

I think I can feel mine moving today! It's subtle but I'm sure it's baby! I also have a bump at long last, just in time for holiday.

FuzzyOwl · 20/06/2016 16:41

Congratulations Cockles and twins! Awesome news! I hope it is all going well for you so far.
