Here's the new thread, for bumps and babies before we all graduate together!

Anyone using bamboo breast pads? The disposable ones are sticking to my poor nipples and it's like ripping off a plaster. I've ordered some to collect from waitrose tomorrow and really hoping they will be a bit kinder.

Everythinggettingbigger · 21/05/2016 17:39

I've been tempted on more than one occasion to punch him over his comments! I've told him he needs to be behind me 100% for it! Ye I'm hoping the fact I don't have much feeling in them will work in my favour!

Oh no any sign of your cat?

Do we have better sleeping newborns?? Recommendations on the sleepy head?

Let me know how the pineapple works! I know it's not recommended dedicated but seriously considering castor oil Blush my mum took it with me on my due date and I arrived that night so she is convinced cedar it's the way to go!

Everythinggettingbigger · 21/05/2016 18:12

Just having an AAAHHHHH FEEL LIKE HE'S NEVER GOING TO COME moment and want to cry Blush kind of want to hang on until Monday at least so I can speak to my midwife as I have piles and I'm petrified of what's going to happen during labour and I have a sweep but I also have now had enough but to be fair I am still 3 days off my due date!

Notrobusta · 21/05/2016 18:14

I think things may be starting or perhaps it's wishful thinking. Had what I think was a show this morning and since then have been getting lots of strong braxton hicks. No pattern to them and not increasing in intensity so don't think it's proper contractions yet.

GunShotResidue · 21/05/2016 18:24

I had BH/contractions on and off all day the day before DD was born, fingers crossed it is something notro!

They won't do a sweep until 40+7 here, so I'm having one on Thursday. Hoping I'll have a newborn by then!

GrouchyKiwi · 21/05/2016 18:26

ODog I ended up buying a pile of reusable ones from JojoMamanBebe last time and they are fabulous. Much warmer than disposables, much more comfortable, and they don't stick. I did, however, go through several sets a day because I have a tendency to oversupply.

Everythinggettingbigger · 21/05/2016 19:13

Good luck Notro and Gun!

Well DS has an upset stomach so dealing with lots of smelly things isn't helping my already temperamental mood......I've cried just from being fed up too, cried because DP said "you aren't even due yet" even though it was said in a jokey way because I had commented earlier about how annoying it is and I've cried because my feet looked slightly swollen! Pregnancy is a wonderful thing!

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 21/05/2016 19:55

Everything if it helps distract you from your misery I'll highly recommend the sleepyhead! We got one yesterday and used it for the first time last night - I had already bought a snuzpod bedside crib so it seemed a crazy expense if we didn't need it but she won't sleep in the crib yet and has been in with me every night and I keep waking up in the night thinking I have suffocated her so it seemed worth a try! She slept in it all night between feeds and is laying in it on the sofa now quite happily (I think) so I would say it's worth it! DP wasn't sure when he saw it though as it's too big to go in our double bed with both of us really, though I assured him I would just lay in my side and fit around it if we put it in the bed with us (as I have been doing with her up to now).

Everythinggettingbigger · 21/05/2016 21:02

Thanks cant will bare it in mind if we are struggling for sleep. We have one of the macaroon swings which my sister in law has for my 4 month old niece and she swears by it so hoping that's daytime sorted! DS still sleeps in our bed so there really isn't room to add another child in really hoping DS2 will just settle in the bedside crib but if he's anything like DS1 there's no chance!

Lots of back ache again.....whole back though not just lower back....think I need to go to bed and get rid of this day Sad

Icecappedpinetrees · 21/05/2016 21:27

My lip is bleeding and my tongue feels very strange. - that made me laugh!

Icecappedpinetrees · 21/05/2016 23:35

Hi all, this thread had moved fast today!! I've barely checked in as I've been with MIL, toddler and newborn all day. Confused.

Brew and Cake to all those still pregnant and suffering the last few days and weeks, it's tough but you're all nearly there.

notsoold · 22/05/2016 02:00

I can't roll back and check if I have updated or not and my brain is gone ,so I am sorry if repeating myself but I had my CS yesterday and our baby boy is here!!!! Toddler not so taken but teenage boy was.
It has been more painful moving around this time.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for you all.
Will try to reread the thread once home because my brain is a sieve now.....xxx

GrouchyKiwi · 22/05/2016 06:41

Congratulations notso!

Icecappedpinetrees · 22/05/2016 07:04

Congrats notso - speedy recovery Flowers

ParsnipSoup · 22/05/2016 08:15

Congratulations notso!

Cat came home, she has learned how to open a window by herself, only problem being she can't get back inside after getting out!!

Not that many of us left to go! Hurry up babies!!

Icecappedpinetrees · 22/05/2016 08:31

Glad cat is back parsnip

Wasn't even 7.30am this morning before I'd had two sly comments about me breastfeeding from MIL. I tried to let it not bother me yesterday, I tried to rise above it but honestly if I get one more comment I might take a nipple out and spray her in the eyes.

Apparently, he had hiccups and was unsettled because "he'd been too greedy." (Alluding to me feeding him too much that she said yesterday). WTF, he's twelve days old. Also, "he needs some tepid water" No, no he doesn't - he doesn't need water or formula as she also suggested because we are lucky and we've worked hard to get feeding right and he is satisfied and thriving with me feeding him. Why is it so hard to understand?

Also, what part of "hold him upright as he'll be windy" is hard to grasp?? Flat baby being rocked around = vomit when I get him handed back as he's crying with trapped wind

GunShotResidue · 22/05/2016 08:58

Congratulations notso! Hope you recover quickly and your toddler gets used to him.

Glad your cat is back parsnip

Ice spraying her in the eye seems pretty fair really! I hope there's not too many comments today.

Nothing's happening here. Another 4 hours and I'll officially call the pineapple experiment a failure.

TristanlovesIsolde · 22/05/2016 10:24

Congratulations notso

Glad to hear cat made it home parsnip

40+4 now and body beginning to feel like it is being pushed to its limit although no signs of baby coming. DH taken DS out for the morning so some peace and quiet for me.

Sweep booked for Tuesday. That's what got things moving for DS so fingers crossed...

ODog · 22/05/2016 12:02

Congratulations notso - hope you recover well.

Come on babies - it's been a quiet weekend.

Had a bit of a scare earlier today. Suddenly got really cold and has the shivers for over an hour. Was worried about an infection but I rang post natal and they said it is probably the hormone surge from engorgement and milk being in. Took some paracetamol, woke DD up to feed and hand expressed in the bath and I feel much better if not a little drained. Was a bit scary at the time though. Not helped by a very anxious toddler and DH not getting the hint to remove him as he was busy building a rocket Hmm which DH was way more into than DS

GunShotResidue · 22/05/2016 17:51

That sounds really scary ODog, glad you're feeling better now.

Having spicy wedges with tea. Hoping this will work better than the pineapple.

frozensmoothie · 22/05/2016 18:21

Glad your cat is back Parsnip. I'm bit worried about ours, he has put on a load of weight so is clearly being fed by other people and he seems seems a bit unsettled by the baby's arrival. Worried he will run away.

That sounds scary Odog. Two of our NCT group have had mastitis which sounds awful.

We got discharged from hospital last night thank God. It's been a real struggle since we got home though. Have had full on breastfeeding nightmares. I just can't get her to latch right, or if I do she ends up sliding off. My nipple are so sore I wince every time she latches and my boobs are covered in bruises. The midwives came over earlier and showed me a better latch but I still can't do it. The jaundice also means baby is more tired and lethargic so she struggles to have the energy to latch too. We're still supplementing with formula and planning to get an electric pump tomorrow and give her expressed milk instead. I'm terrified that she's not getting enough fluids to flush out the jaundice Sad

29redshoes · 22/05/2016 19:29

That sounds scary odog, take it easy and hopefully it was just a one off.

gunshot I had a very spicy pizza the day I went into labour, so based on that I think you're onto a winner! Fingers crossed you don't have to wait much longer.

frozen glad you're home from hospital now. Don't panic about the breastfeeding - a week ago I was only managing to give DD maybe one full feed a day from the breast as we just weren't getting on with it at all. We've both slowly got more used to it, today only one feed has been formula and the rest have been from the breast. You still have plenty of time to get back to it if breastfeeding is what you want to do. It is so hard though, you have my sympathies!

29redshoes · 22/05/2016 19:31

frozen also have you tried nipple shields? Someone on this thread suggested them (think it was cant) and I've found them really good when DD won't latch.

Icecappedpinetrees · 22/05/2016 20:16

gunshot I'm loving your food diary Grin DS1 was a massive wedge of chocolate fudge cake and ice cream and DS2 was spaghetti bolognaise. I still can't eat fudge cake without feeling twinges of labour pain.

Frozen - I'd typed out a massive reply but lost it when DS started to make odd gurgling sounds.... When will your midwife be back? How did your poor boobs get bruised?! Good suggestions re shields. Do you have lanisoh too? Best nipple care ever (and also - brilliant lip balm) expressing and feeding is a great idea until you get on track. Keep at it though, with DS1 it was weeks of practise, just trial and error, putting him on and off and finding what worked.

GunShotResidue · 22/05/2016 20:48

Glad to hear your home frozen, I hope breastfeeding gets easier soon. I remember the first week to 10 days being hell with DD, it did get better. I second lansinoh and getting as much help and support as possible.

Chocolate fudge cake and ice cream is definitely an experiment I'm willing to try ice! Will give that a go tomorrow night.
