31 weeks midwife appointment today. She thinks baby has got into head-down position but he has a bony bum so it sometimes feels like his head is up! Still getting spot-on week-by-week fundal measurements, and today got complimented on how excellent my haemoglobin levels were 'especially for a vegetarian'! I do try!

Fizzyboo · 02/06/2016 11:44

Ha Sophia, I too was complimented on my haemoglobin levels and being a vegetarian as well! Go us!

Haha I came over all modest and said 'Well I have been taking ferrous sulphate' and the midwife said 'No, no.. credit where credit's due!' This is now my favourite medical compliment; old one was that I had 'nice juicy veins'!

Suziesome1 · 02/06/2016 12:21

Me three :) veggie power! :)

bearhuggy · 02/06/2016 12:34

Me four....team greeeen !!

LilyMyOneAndOnly · 02/06/2016 12:50

Haha same happened to me! I get weirdly proud when complemented on my iron levels, blood pressure etc like I have anything to do with it really :)

Sophia1984 · 02/06/2016 12:50

Sort of dispels the myth that being vegetarian isn't good for mums-to-be, eh? Pretty obvious that we get lots of the good stuff - lentils, spinach, chickpeas... (although I had veggie sausages and chips last night!)

fruityb · 02/06/2016 12:52

Hello not read whole thread but wanted to drop in. 21st August here. All going swimmingly aside from the hip pain in the night.

Nathan Drake will be getting a visit in the early hours if it happens again! Not waddling yet though :)

bearhuggy · 02/06/2016 12:53

sophia I also had veggie sausages last night !! I roasted them with cherry toms, rosemary, thyme then had mashed sweet potato, broccoli and kale on the side...delishhhh.

bearhuggy · 02/06/2016 12:54

welome fruity, sorry about the hip pain....who's Nathan Drake?!

Suziesome1 · 02/06/2016 13:07

Are you guys planning on raising your lo's vegetarian? I'm just not sure if I'm confident enough in dietetics to wean etc on a purely veggie diet.... My friend, (veggie,) batch cooked and froze meat dishes in baby sizes, and with salads etc she grilled chicken and chucked on top. Her stance was that they could decide when older. Im a bit conflicted, as ethically, its against everything I believe in, but, I want to do my best for my lo, and I don't know if I'll be able to meet all her dietary needs (which will be way more complex than mine) Any thoughts?

Suziesome1 · 02/06/2016 13:10

I mean, I love spinach, broccoli, kale, raisons, avacado, etc, but toddlers aren't exactly renowned for their love of leafy greens!

Fizzyboo · 02/06/2016 13:24

We are going to raise babes veggie. Even my meat eating DH is insistent on it.
We'll let them choose when they're older if they want to eat meat, but we would rather they knew where it came from before we made them eat it.
Having been a veggie my entire life, I'm pretty confident in meeting their nutritional needs.
Also just for practicality, I'd rather taste/temp check their food, and I can't if it's meaty!

Suziesome1 · 02/06/2016 13:40

Ah good point! I'm just a bit scared that I'll let her down.... Just have visions of me frantically stuffing beans and spinach down her!Blush

fruityb · 02/06/2016 14:29

Uncharted 4 bear I'll be firing up the PlayStation lol

LilyMyOneAndOnly · 02/06/2016 16:42

I'll probably do a lot more reading up when it comes to weaning (I do like to research things before making a decision!) but my initial thoughts are that I won't feed him meat, but I won't stop my meat-eating DH as long as it's good quality organic stuff (no processed rubbish). And obviously when he's older he can decide for himself!

After kicking OH out, being overly horrible to him AND questioning the female in question myself..I am satisfied that the encounter in the shop was, in fact, just a wave between colleagues.

Reading what the above says genuinely makes me laugh out loud at how crazy I have gone. Part of me feels bad..but the other half is being fed the ice cream i deprived myself of yesterday and feeling like I've had a successful day of making the most of having an excuse to being a psycho.

Christinedonna · 02/06/2016 19:39

(I have apologised and I'm now crying because I feel bad) wow hormones

plimsolls · 03/06/2016 11:25

Glad you've got it sorted christine and I hope your OH understands the situation and there are no further problems.

sophia your posts made me smile!

erica glad all is well. I'm sending mucusy vibes to you (so to speak)

glencoco hope house move/sorting is still going well.

I bet all you vegetarians will have no problems weaning your children on whatever you choose (well, no more problems than any of us meat-eaters will have).

You poor people with severe pelvic pain.... Flowers

I had my 28 week midwife appointment this morning. The baby has moved head down, out of the breech position so that's good. She measured my bump and its massive. 36cm at 27+5 Blush That's growth of 8cm in two weeks and I was already measuring big!!! Obviously she is referring me for a growth scan. As reassurance, she said that I'm likely to have a larger bump as I'm tall and that it could be affected by the baby's new position (so, that could also be why yours is measuring small sloth )

I had a high level of sugar in my urine too (all previous bloods have been fine) which along with the enormo-bump is a sign of gestational diabetes. I never heard back from my 19 week GTT appointment which I thought was because I didn't have GD but now obviously I'm worried they were just lost in my transfer to a different health trust, and that my poor baby has been receiving rocket fuel sugar levels for the last month. Hmmm.

Mind you (although obviously hoping that it's just a big bump rather than an unhealthily giant baby) I'm quite pleased I get the chance to have another scan. I would rather have an normal bump, obviously, but I guess every cloud.....

I hope I thanked 8peanut* alfie and everyone for the iron recommendations. i thought I did but I can't see the post now.

pickle and mslg I hope you're enjoying your hols.

I picked up a kind of rubbery spiky ball thingy in Tiger for a quid the other day and plan on using it as per bearhuggy's recommendation with the tennis ball for some back and hip pain.

bearhuggy yes, the weather in London is bloody rubbish at the moment. I'm pleased to see a fellow Londoner here. Whereabouts are you?

Christinedonna · 03/06/2016 11:38

plims you have to think at the end of the day she's measuring your belly (not your actually uterus) despite them saying that, they can only get the outside! Baby could be in a completely different position to last time, an empty and full stomach will make a difference. It will be fine, I'm sure you don't have a major grower in there! Atleast you get another scan out of it!

Fizzyboo · 03/06/2016 13:07

Plimsolls often just the fluid in there can make you measure bigger too... Are you repeating the yummy GTT test? I'm always asking my MW how she measures the baby and not my fat! Blush
I'm reet near London too, but just on the south coast. DH commutes into London for work and where we spend all our time, just cheaper for us to travel in.

plimsolls · 03/06/2016 13:21

Thanks Christine and fizzy. MW has done another blood test so i think I'll have to do another GTT if these results of the blood test come back iffy.

Whereabouts on the south coast are you Fizzy? If you say Hastings or St Leonards I'm afraid I am going to die with jealousy and also possibly come and visit.

Longtimelistener · 03/06/2016 13:46

Plimsolls I'm Hastings and St. Leonard's, but moving to Wiltshire next weekend!

plimsolls · 03/06/2016 13:55

longtime Ooh you lucky thing! I just love it there so much. It's my fantasy place to move to. Although, if this baby is a boy, we're calling him Leonard (a coincidence) so I'm not sure how it would work if we did move there....

(I hear Wiltshire is very nice too and GOOD LUCK with the move!)
