Possibly.

Moss - we've actually got a cot AND a basket cradle (which was mine when I was a baby - a bit more substantial than the moses baskets you get today) AND a wooden swinging crib thing. With ds we kept the basket downstairs, the crib in our room, and the cot in ds's own room, so we didn't have to cart things up and down the stairs.

I certainly found grobags better with ds, as he was very wriggly and tended to kick blankets/sheets off all the time and then wake up cold. Probably won't be quie the same this time around though as he was a September baby so his wriggly phase conincided with winter, this time it'll be midsummer and the problem will probably be more keeping them cool than warm.

Use them as you would blankets - so yes the same one for several days, but allow for spares in case of accidents!

Rosylily · 21/01/2007 11:27

I'm just going to use the cot, it is adjustable and is quite high up at the moment. Not sure if I'll have it alongside the bed yet or not which is another option. The mattress that came with it is probably very basic but going with that one. I'm going to get some colourful fitted sheets and a couple of sleeping bag things. they are expensive! My mum made a couple last time but not sure where they went....

I was so tempted by a gorgeous crib and like the look of the baby hammocks but am going for least expense, longest use option!

I do have a pop up portable carrycot thingy for the baby to nap in downstairs or if I go visiting.

33 weeks today boy

sazzybee · 21/01/2007 11:39

Hello everyone

May I join you?

I'm 32+6 with a boy, my first (and last). I'm going to my first consultant appointment tomorrow for 7 weeks and my GP told me last week she thinks he's going to be early and he's big. So I'm a little anxious

Rosylily · 21/01/2007 11:57

Hi sazzybee, I like your name. Welcome and another boy! This is definately a mostly boy thread. There must have been something in the air 7/8 months ago

divastrop · 21/01/2007 12:38

hi sazzybee.i seem to remember saying ds1 was going to by my last

moss-i used a moses basket when mine were small, but found it hard to get them to settle in the cot when they'd grown out of it.
but newborns seem lost in a cot somehow.

CALLIE-excellent newsJordi's doing so well to be out of the incubator so soon.i had a friend whos lo was born at 32 weeks and he was in scbu for 4 weeks, just till he'd put enough weight on.one of ds2's friends at nursery was born at 32 weeks and he's a healthy, boisterous 4 year old now.

today i feel for no reason(other than im fed up with being pregnant).i just want to scream!

32+4...6wk3days to go

foxabout2pop · 21/01/2007 12:45

hi everyone

welcome sazzy - how has your pregnancy been so far?

callie you're amazing - it must be such a tough time for you at the moment, but .a as you say, Jordi seems to be progressing very well

night out was fun - there were 7 of us so I got to talk to everyone, which was nice.

we have a mn children's party this arvo with some of the same mums.

oooh my life is such a social whirl (...not)

24 weeks today (boy)

1973magpie · 21/01/2007 12:51

Afternoon All,

Great news Callie, glad to jear that Jordi is doing so well, already out of the incubator - that's excellent progress

Boo - I got a rocker/glider chair from EBay too, it's fantastic, I have put it into the baby's room for those middle of the night feeds

We plan to have the little one in our room for the first little while in a moses basket, but if she's anywhere near as big as DD1 she will grow out of it really quickly and be in her cot in her own room by around 6 weeks so we can all get some sleep.

Hi Sazzybee, I also swore that DD1 was my first and last! Six and a half years later I am 32+4 with DD2

sazzybee · 21/01/2007 12:59

Hello everyone - thanks for the friendly welcome

My pregnancy has been a laugh a minute - got over morning sickness and then had a MASSIVE bleed which started at a wedding at 15 weeks. Cue ambulance and an A&E doctor who was convinced that it was all over. Finally got a scan two anxious days later and LO was fine. Then suspected obstetric cholestasis which meant loads of anxiety and testing, testing, testing.

Now I just have low grade SPD

This is definitely going to be my first and last - I don't have a DP and the baby was conceived using donor sperm. Oh - and I'm 42

Callie - so glad Jordie's making such good progress - must be such an anxious time for you

Rosylily · 21/01/2007 14:39

Sazzybee, wow, well done for getting to this stage then you have had a roller coaster by the sound of it. I'll be 40 in March and there's someone around with red fur who's older than you!

Rosylily · 21/01/2007 14:41

Oh and hopefully Rainbowgirl is still lurking, she's doing it on her own too.

muppetisacat · 21/01/2007 14:46

Sazzybee - weird but I had exactly the same start as you. weeks of vomiting 24 hrs - anti emetics did nothing - survived through sheer will power to keep water down - gp wanted me in hospital on drip etc - had to farm my kids out to my parents bless them.
Then at 13 weeks - massive bleed - gp told me I was miscarrying. Scan showed baby still there and we never knew what caused the blood loss (although I did have a low-lying placenta)

How long did your bleeding continue for - I was wearing pads until week 22! It had eased off by then but at first it was heavier than the heaviest period I've ever had?

Did you ever find out what had caused your bleed?

Anyhow - nice to have you onboard.

Callie - such good news about little Jordi. Can't wait for you to post some photos so we can all have a good look. How far away is the hospital from where you live?

Hope everyone's having a good w/e

Diva - I've been today as well... can't pin it onto anything so have to blame the hormones. DH and kids are staying well away!
33+2 (boy)

3rdTriMossTer · 21/01/2007 16:22

Hello sazzybee! Sounds like you have been through the wringer, good luck at your appointment sounds like you deserve some good karma!!

Thanks everyone for your advice on cots etc. I think we will get a mid-range priced mattress, and get the sleeping bag thingies instead of blankets.

Still haven't decided about the moses basket though, as you say Diva, the cot just seems so massive in comparison to the size of a new baby, but the baskets I've seen are all about £50, which is not cheap!

I could ask on Freecycle but I would want one from a smoke free home ideally and I think it might be a bit rude to say, "hello, I want something from you, oh hang on, not you, no, not you either, yes, you, you meet my criteria, er, thanks".

I'll see how I go with the rest of the cash and decide then.

Foxy, get you with your social life! It must be like party city down in West London eh?

YankeeFish · 21/01/2007 16:25

Hello all - everyone enjoying the w/e? Sounds like we are surviving anyways. Did a bit of shopping today - sheets for cot and vibrating bouncer chair - believe I am getting ready.

I have packed Baby's things in a bag - and I am thinking about what to put in for me. You all have had some great suggestions - my favorite so far is straws to drink with as your mouth gets dry from all the hard work (and screaming).

Sazzybee - welcome! Sounds as if you have had a tough go of it, but it will make it all that much more worth it.

Callie - well done with Jordi - sounds like the little guy is a fighter and is making progress. What a great blessing he is - we are all thinking of you and yours.

Moss - we are keeping LO in cot in our room to begin with - mainly to make nighttime feedings easier for me - but then move cot into nursery when time is right.

sazzybee · 21/01/2007 19:02

muppetisacat- my bleeding didn't last very long at all thankfully - less than a week but it just gushed for the first few days - much heavier than a period. Very weird and they couldn't see any reason for it. I miscarried last year at 13 weeks so I was completely freaking out. Yours sounds awful though - I'd have been a complete puddle if I'd bled for weeks.

3rdtrimosster - the cost of a moses basket is insane isn't it? Especially when you're only using it for a few weeks. Can you borrow one from someone? That's what I've done. I'm far too cheap to buy something with such a short lifespan

1973magpie · 21/01/2007 19:46

Moss, you can get a moses basket with white dressing on it from Mothercare for about £28.00 and Babies R Us have a white broderie anglaise one for about the same price (this is the one we've got )

Sazzy - I have had a fairly eventful time of it this time around too. Horrendous morning sickness for the first 25 weeks or so, SPD from around 19 weeks, and have recently found out that I have got gd too!

This is definitely my last one....

3rdTriMossTer · 21/01/2007 19:57

1973magpie, that's not too bad I suppose, should've thought of looking in Mothercare the other week really. Will see how the cash goes - or doesn't - and what happens with NatWest of course!

Sazzybee I would feel awkward about borrowing, in case he sicks or poos in it and it isn't cleanable, I am sure I would be able to clean it but I'm just paranoid!!

Yankeefish I'm impressed by you having part of your bag packed already, I really need to get a wriggle on, it's payday next Friday so that weekend we're off on a spending spree!!

divastrop · 21/01/2007 20:13

moss-i'm sure i paid about £30 for ds2's moses basket.the stubborn little erm angel was in it till 5 months(with head touching one end and feet the other)cos he wouldnt go in the cot.i didnt know those sleeping bags existed then though and when i was given one for him it was like magic.

this one will have to stay in the moses basket till dd2 is ready for the bed that im still waiting for

sexkittyinwaiting · 21/01/2007 20:30

Evening all. Welcome snazzybee.
Ds1 was the only one who would sleep in his moses basket, the others screamed and screamed. Mossy if you lived near to me you would be welcome to have mine for free.

foxabout2pop · 21/01/2007 20:40

Hi everyone

Sazzybee - God that must have been really scary for you when you had that bleed. I miscarried in Oct 2005 and with this pregnancy had a couple of light bleeds (I tend to get cervical erosion but also have a low placenta this time) and I was freaking out at just a bit of spotting. You must've been so relieved when you discovered LO was still OK!

BTW I am older than you at 43 (Hi Rosy )and DH is much older than me I have a friend who did what you are doing; she had a sperm doner, plus IVF and gave birth to twins at the age of 44 as a single Mum! She is extremely happy she did it and her twins are both gorgeous

Mossy I get paid on Thursday and here is my initial spend list:

DS haircut
Me badly needed haircut
Book cheap holiday to Cornwall and pay deposit
Buy birthing essentials - special those bum and booby pads

Diva - both DS and DD grew out of the moses basket aT 3 months. I was glad I got given the basket by my sister for nothing Have you had a quiet weekend - you haven't mentioned the neighbours - have they been behaving?

Am of the lovely nursing chairs some of you are buying. I have an Ikea kind of leather recliner a friend gave me with a footstall, which I'll use. Just hope its comfy for feeding.

Had a great arvo at the MN party - for a boys first brithday. He was ever so sweet dressed up as a cowboy Met two mumsnetters I'd never met before. The west London thread is very lively actually - quite "buzzy".

BTW Suejonez should hopefully be returning from Kazakstan on Tuesday for anyone following her story. She has had such a hard time of it, with all the beaurocracy etc.

DollyPopsOut · 21/01/2007 20:54

Hello girls.

Hope you have had an uneventful sunday. Sorry for everyone feeling and hormonal. I was very tearful this am as my fanny hurt so much from the thrush but it seems to have settled down a bit. We have also had a good clear out and sorted the dining room out which I have been on at DH about for weeks so have really achieved something. DH and I are 2 of the messiest buggers alive, so how long it will stay like that remains to be seen but at least we can all sit round the table now .

Callie - glad to hear Jordi is progressing so well. You will be able to cuddle him lots soon as he gets bigger and stronger. You must be kind to yourself too, as your body is still recovering from the birth. If they think he night be home around your due date, that's only 6 or so weeks and it'll go in a flash! Take care and thinking of you lotsXXXX

Foxy, am very jealous of your social life. Mine seems to consist of various cups of tea in S London parks, and sitting with DH of an evening trying to stay awake in front of the telly!

Mossy - DD lasted only 3 weeks in her basket, so I am hoping this one sticks in for a bit longer as the £ per wear is very low at the moment. She was very long though and huge at birth so that might explain it - she kept hitting her arms on the sides. Mothercare do a very funky cardboard cot which I am going to investigate as it might last a bit longer. Can anyone recommmend a good bouncy chair? We didn#t have one last time and so I use dto put DD under her baby gym when I left the room. A chair would be quite nice for her this time.

Sazzybee - welcome! Sounds like you have had an eventful few months, you poor thing! Glad to have you on board. How are you feeling now? And do you have any names in mind yet?

Yucky old work tom - boo, hiss - time for the pregnant lady to kick some non pregnant butt methinks. I'll let you know how I get on.

Hope you all have a good day tomorrow XXXXX

TheBlonde · 21/01/2007 21:01

sazzybee - welcome! I think we must be due around the same date, I'm 33 wks on Tues due 13 March (having trouble keeping track of the weeks tbh)

Foxy - good news about Sue, fingers crossed there are no further delays for her, she's been away ages now

CALLIE - v pleased to hear Jordi is doing well

Weekend here has been fairly productive. We had a big clear out of stuff to make room for the new baby

foxabout2pop · 21/01/2007 21:05

Dolly - I've been all weekend thinking about work.

Some arsehole has basically stolen one of our desks while I am recruiting a new person to fill a post. Everytime I walk past he jeers "squatters rights" or "when R U going on maternity leave?" He dumped all my teams stuff off the desk and asked someone to change the locks on the drawer so he could use it without my permission . I have a meeting tomorrow with his manager and some others to discuss the genral shortage of desks and can't decide what angle to take in the meeting. I feel so angry I've burst into tears twice this weekend. He seems to think that because I'm PG he can just walk all over me

...feck it...feck it...feck it...

DollyPopsOut · 21/01/2007 21:29

Foxy, it's dreadful isn't it? As we are pregnant, we are supposed to put up with all manner of crap which would be deemed wholly unacceptable if it were aimed at someone else. Know what you mean about bursting into tears through anger. I frequently have to have a weep in my office with the door locked, and then grout my face again to meet the punters. Just think though, in a few short weeks we'll be out of here and they can all get on with it.

My HR dept is completely useless so no point complaining to them. Yours may well be too. Can you booby trap the desk so he gets a small electric shock every time he touches it ? Stand your ground in the meeting. He's an arse.

eidsvold · 21/01/2007 21:35

Moss you are not alone - dh laughed the first time and then smirked every other time. But for a lovely relaxing swing and a cool afternoon breeze I can risk the hilarity.

We had a moses basket with our three - dd1 was sooo tiny she stayed in her moses basket until she was over 6 months old. Dd2 - can't remember but she stayed for a while.

Moss - I have sleeping bags - always have - my two hated blankets and even now have to have their feet out of their sheets/blankets. I always had two - one to wash if needed and one to use. I love them. I managed to get a pattern to make my own - very expensive here - over $80 for the gro bag brand. Thankfully we had a collection for dd1 and so have recycled.

Not much happening here - last week of summer holidays and a bank holiday on Friday so - 4 more days of entertaining two monkeys for long hours.

We are taking them swimming this evening when dh gets home from work.

Tomorrow I have my consultant's appt to discuss surgery. The dd's - kind of third gran is coming over to look after them for me.

Welcome sazzybee.
