Hello,

So couldn't see a January baby post (probably because no one is mad enough to POAS as early as me!)

Anyway, I thought I would start one (waves). I am 28, this will be DC#2 making my 4 year old DS a big brother which he has been so excited about becoming (we haven't told him yet though as very early days!) I am roughly around 4 weeks and we're not planning on telling anyone for ages so thought I would start a thread so I have someone to get excited with!

Please come and say hello! Xx

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to give it a miss. I think I'm willing to risk it now because I'm feeling fantastic, but the closer to the day I'll get the more nervous I'll be about it and probably won't enjoy as much probably because I'll be counting down the minutes to get home safely to prove to DH that all was fine....! but I'll probably be scared as I wouldn't want to give birth in England (which psychologically feels really far away from home) and have to drag DH 2hours+ to get me and baby home!! We're going to try and do something a little bit earlier if we can move things around in our diaries! I'm not a risk taker at all so your comments really helped remind me of that!!

LucySB123 · 22/09/2016 12:17

Has anyone's appetite gone through the roof? are they supposed to have a growth spurt towards the end of second trimester? I've been putting on about half a pound most weeks in the second trimester but in the last 3 weeks I have averaged 1 and 1/2 pounds! I am constantly hungry. I hazard to guess how much I'll put on next week while on holiday as well! I've really popped and have added more than 4 inches round the belly Shock. I only went up one size with DD but definitely in need of some maternity clothes this time round..

Bella1985 · 22/09/2016 13:03

Yes lucy I could eat a horse by 10.30am despite having eaten a big bowl sometimes 2 bowls of cereal for breakfast! I'll have a snack mid morning but am hungry again by 12! Just eaten a massive plate of food for lunch. My only saving grace is that it tails off for the rest of the day as I'm so full from all this food I eat during the morning/lunch time. I've tried eating less in the morning/for lunch but I can't concentrate when I'm so hungry! Blush

Firsttimer16 · 22/09/2016 18:30

Hi all, wondering if I can join you! I'm 30 and having a baby boy due on 29th December. I was lurking on the Dec thread but they're all so far ahead of me I can't relate too much! I've read though a lot of this thread but not all just yet so apologies for any repititoonn

I've just ordered 5huge boxes of water wipes on half price from Ocado, and have got a load of second hand stuff from DH's brother so I feel kind of organised, I sway between being terrified how quickly time is going and then bored by thinking how long there is still to wait!

How much movement is everyone feeling these days?

Firsttimer16 · 22/09/2016 18:34

Ps just caught up on a whole load of posts I'd missed discussing movement so no need to respond to that!!!

Bella1985 · 22/09/2016 19:17

Hi firstimer I feel the same about the december thread. Sometimes its really handy as they're already going through things when they start happening so you know that its normal but a lot of the time they scare the heck out of me by how organised and how close to due dates they are! 4 weeks makes a huge difference! With movement, I had a couple of strong kicks about a week or two ago but haven't had anything as big since, still mostly flutters, I expected to have big ones all the time by now but its not the case yet...

Admarks · 23/09/2016 07:30

Firstimer welcome! I also feel the same about the Dec thread, especially in the early days they all seemed so far ahead and like Bella said, more organised. I think our little group here are all similar in weeks and state of organisation/preparedness. We do move slowly here though!! I lurk on the Jan thread but have the opposite problem - it's so awkward being at the very end/beginning of a month!!

Bella I think i would agree with the 2+hour drive at 37 weeks, perhaps you can try to bring the date forward a bit or ask for the location to be a bit closer to home?
*
Lucy* yes, hungry all the time here! I upped my breakfast to 3 weetabix a while ago and it's not enough anymore Confused. Yesterday breakfast was my weetabix, banana and then a bacon roll when I got to work.... I'm starving by 11 so had a belvita, then had lunch at 1. I was ok until about 6 on my journey home (apple) before dinner with two choccie biscuits for pudding... I've given up weighing myself!

More and more people are beginning to notice my bump, which is quite nice (at the moment) and I'm starting to get a few questions about when I'm due. Also have the question about due date and the Christmas/New Years baby statement always rears its head. Has any one thought of how to manage this when baby is born- if like our baby's birthday to not be over shadowed by Christmas or New Years. Clearly this is easier of our babies are early or late (neither of which are ideal in my mind!)

stealthbanana · 23/09/2016 08:15

Absolutely agree re the Dec and Jan threads - it's awkward being on the cusp of a month!

My appetite has gone bananas too, I'm also really finding I need fat and protein to make me feel full. My normal porridge is not cutting it, I am supplementing with peanut butter crackers and yoghurt. Baby had doubled in weight from my 20w to 24w scan so there's definitely some kind of growth spurt going on! Plus have developed an incredibly sweet tooth - am not to mainline chocolate but it's hard! Have Togo and have my diabetes test in a couple of weeks, am a bit worried about that Shock

admarks my EDD is NYE and I think it would be cool to have a NY birthday - ready made party! The only day I'd really like to avoid is Christmas Day itself. If that happened I think we'd maybe celebrate the half birthday on 25 June? Not sure.

colonolthirteen · 23/09/2016 08:45

So it's only me that hasn't had an appetite surge then! In fact the past few days I've even been wondering if morning sickness is making a return. Is that crazy??

With regards to movements firstimer I feel lots all throughout the day, he seems to be constantly twisting and rolling in there, sometimes I can feel his head right at the surface of my stomach and then sometimes it's as if he's gone towards my back and I can't feel him at all. I like to think that he's found another room to sleep in or something!

admarks I've been wondering about Christmas, I had toyed with the idea of booking somewhere to go out but then my mum explained to me the madness of that idea (losing a deposit if the baby comes early etc). So we've agreed to take it really easy, it's just DH and me, and my mum is moving closer, the rest of my family is abroad and the rest of DH's family is in London. So we'll probably not plan on a big Christmas dinner and just see how it goes closer to the time. (That brings me to another question - not sure how I feel if all of them descend on the day of the birth, I really just want my mum and DH. Is that selfish of me? On the other hand I do love a lot of family around but I'm worried about being overwhelmed).

PS - I think I'm right in saying happy 26th week Bella and admarks!

stealthbanana · 23/09/2016 09:38

colonol I've still got bad morning sickness. I'm vomiting at least once a day. Very weird feeling to be feeling sick and hungry at the same time! I will stay on my medication til birth now I think.

colonolthirteen · 23/09/2016 10:04

stealthbanana I'm really sorry to hear that, that must be so crap to live with. I hope the medication is working for you.

LucySB123 · 23/09/2016 11:45

firsttimer welcome!

I've just had my second breakfast and already looking forward to my lunch so my appetite is obviously not abating... Cake Chocolate Biscuit Grin

my FIL's birthday is on 25 Dec. Gifts get rolled into one big christmas / birthday gift. So if I had a choice, I'd prefer if baby doesn't come on 25 Dec or 1 Jan... also because the NHS would be slightly understaffed on those days I reckon. I think my sweet spot would be between 26 and 31 after the christmas chaos so I have time to actually have a "maternity leave" and watch christmas TV. haha Grin

Firsttimer16 · 23/09/2016 16:53

Glad you're all just as hungry as me Smile. I've definitely got a bump showing now but I was wondering the other day how much smaller I would be if I had eaten normal portions the last 6 months!!

stealthbanana sorry to hear about the morning sickness, what bad luck to still have it.

Do you know if everyone is offered the diabetes test as standard or does it vary on hospital? It's not on my notes and I haven't heard anything about it. Will ask my midwife at 28 week appointment as would quite like to make sure I can enjoy all he ice cream I'm eating guilt free!

Admarks · 23/09/2016 18:35

Sorry about the morning sickness stealth, must be so difficult when you're hungry. I hope it abates soon Flowers

Yes- happy 26 weeks Col and Bella! The third trimester is now in sight (which is also a teeny bit scary!)

Happy Friday everyone, hope you all have a good weekend! I've been tasked with buying radiators by OH (who is working this weekend) Hmm - I know having a working heating system will essential in the next few weeks, but it was a strange ask for your pregnant wife!!

Bella1985 · 23/09/2016 18:41

Thanks colonol happy 26th week to you too and to admarks!!

I'm soooo glad to hear others are very hungry too...it's hard to believe we only need an extra 300 cals! That wouldn't fill even a tiny bit of the hole I have in the morning! Gutted for stealth with the morning sickness and yes colonol I think it can make a come back, let's hope it won't be full force.

firsttimer I'm having the GTT at 28 weeks based on my bmi - they told me this at the booking in appointment and I had to book it when I had the 12 week scan so I would imagine you'd know about it by now.

My friends have rearranged their diaries so we're meeting a month earlier, which is lovely of them!

Not sure about xmas. Would prefer baby to come early january rather than over the festive period but everyone says I'll be willing the baby to come early by 37 weeks as its so uncomfortable...it's hard to imagine that at this stage but we'll see what happens. I'm rather enjoying this stage of pregnancy...

Bella1985 · 23/09/2016 18:47

Oh and lucy - I'm finishing work first week of december so I can watch all of the xmas films and sing carols at the top of my voice around the house in peace before DH finishes work! Grin

colonolthirteen · 24/09/2016 07:22

Firsttimer just to echo what Bella said I also got told about the gestational diabetes test at the booking in appointment because I have a high risk ethnicity. If they haven't told you about it now then I'm sure you don't need it. I wish I didn't need it Confused

LunaWeaselton · 25/09/2016 10:21

First timer here and new to the thread .24 weeks with an EDD of 8th of January. I'm pretty excited to be due not too long after the holidays.Christmas /New Year is my favorite time .

Bella1985 · 25/09/2016 16:11

Welcome to the thread luna

Hope the radiator shopping has gone well admarks!

Been to a baby 2nd hand sale this morning and I'm finding it so hard to have a good balance between buying everything we need and feeling prepared, but also holding back on things as people will probably buy them for us for xmas. Come christmas I'm going to be incredibly dissappointed peed off if everyones bought something for me rather than for the baby as I will have 5 days before EDD to buy all the things required! That's if baby's on time....

DH wants to create a list of things we want, like a wedding gift list but I feel like that sounds a bit cheeky... How are you all going to deal with xmas gifts?!

Emz32 · 26/09/2016 09:33

Hi all. Just got back from a weeks holiday in France. This thread has been surprisingly busy which is nice. 26 weeks today! I'm stressing slightly about the Christmas period. Mainly due to having someone on call to look after 2yr old DS. His birth was pretty fast for a first labour so worried this one will be faster. My mums on call but goes away NY for a couple of days. EDD is 2nd Jan but my dates are 30th Dec (our wedding anniversary). I guess we will just see what happens. Iv just assumed it will be a December baby, don't know why. Iv been calling this baby "she" just because I have a feeling it's a girl but DH keeps telling me off in case it's a boy. I called DS "he" all the way through even though we didn't know. Feels better than "it". Sounds like everyone's doing well. I had a fibroid removed before pregnancy which was possibly causing fertility issues & I was told they feed off oestrogen & therefore can grow rapidly in pregnancy, probably why they keep an eye on them just to make sure. We didn't have a nursery for DS until he was 5 months old as we wanted to decorate for the actual baby once they were here. We will do the same again but firstly we have moved DS into the bigger room & decorate that for him. Still feels like there's so long to go.

Admarks · 26/09/2016 19:09

Welcome back Emz and congratulations on 26 weeks! I hope your holiday was good and restful? Good to hear that people can decorate when they have a newborn! Our original plan was to decorate the nursery after baby arrives, but when I say this to people I get a big tut and something along the lines of we will never have time!

Welcome Luna.

Can't believe that we will nearly be on thread 2 - wow!!

Radiators update - all bought, being delivered on Saturday (how very boring my life is!!). Hopefully we'll have heating in leas than 2 weeks!

Bella1985 · 27/09/2016 07:32

Quick question - how long are you managing to sleep for without having to get up to pee/turn over due to discomfort? I'm averaging about 2hrs at the moment, which is really tiring, just wondering if that's 'normal' this early on...!

colonolthirteen · 27/09/2016 08:23

bella I have to get up once a night to pee - I don't think it's ever been more than that. However I do seem to wake up every time I have to turn over which is really annoying. I'm not sure how often that's happening - I don't feel like it's every 2 hours but it's possible. I make a point not to look at the clock because I know that will not help me get back to sleep!

Emz32 · 27/09/2016 08:51

Holiday was good & restful. Managed a few sips of champagne for the tours but nothing more. Makes me feel so guilty! Decorating with a 5 month old was easy compared to painting a room with a 2.5yr old. He just played with his toys in a little space in the doorway at 5 months. So it's possible. Well done on ordering your radiators Admarks.

Some nights I sleep through without a loo break other nights I wake once about 2/3. I do wake with numb hips & have to roll over but once comfy I usually go back to sleep. I have found this week that I feel exhausted. I just can't keep my eyes open.

Bella1985 · 27/09/2016 09:31

I'm glad you're getting a better night's sleep than I am! but gah that's so depressing for me! Baby is positioned really low, I've only felt a handful of kicks above my belly button, all the rest are down in my bladder area, which is probably why I'm up so often. Confused
