Hello,

So couldn't see a January baby post (probably because no one is mad enough to POAS as early as me!)

Anyway, I thought I would start one (waves). I am 28, this will be DC#2 making my 4 year old DS a big brother which he has been so excited about becoming (we haven't told him yet though as very early days!) I am roughly around 4 weeks and we're not planning on telling anyone for ages so thought I would start a thread so I have someone to get excited with!

Please come and say hello! Xx

Sorry posted without reading back! Delighted to hear all is well Magpie. Must be a huge relief.

Admarks · 18/08/2016 19:02

Great news magpie and happylass (...well except for the fibroid).

Anyone else got a scan coming up soon...Stealth and Lucy?

stealthbanana · 18/08/2016 19:15

Mine's not til next week admarks as am away this week. Will be 21+3. Really hoping everything will be ok.

Great news that all is well with scans this week!

Bella1985 · 18/08/2016 19:33

Glad to hear both babies are well hapylass and magpie It is very reassuring to know that they check for so many different things so early on.

MagpieCursedTea · 18/08/2016 22:58

Thanks happylass! Glad to hear your scan went well apart from the fibroid. It's reassuring that they'll be monitoring it closely though.

LucySB123 · 19/08/2016 08:04

Glad to hear all the scans so far have gone well. Mine is not until next Friday when I'm 21w+. I'll be taking the day off so we'll have a long weekend with the bank holiday. My parents will be visiting as well so hopefully they take DD off my hands while I get a little snooze. Work has been hectic and anticipated to remain like that until mid sept so I'm really tired. Sad I'm hoping all goes well next week then maybe I'll start sorting the baby stuff in the loft. Crazy me but I actually find that rather exciting - must be nesting and all that

Emz32 · 19/08/2016 08:22

I'm getting excited about nesting for baby no 2. Got to move DS into the bigger bedroom first.

So pleased there had been good news on scans so far. Lucy that sounds like a great BH weekend. Hopefully you will get the help you need.

Iv not long had a fibroid removed & I'm hoping it doesn't come back during this pregnancy. Glad to know they are keeping an eye on it for you Happylass.

Bella1985 · 19/08/2016 08:29

lucy DH and I have had serious nesting behavior in the last week or so. I've cleaned like there's no tomorrow and given away almost all my clothes to charity! DH has gone through all our files in the study dumping zone on his afternoon off and has everything ready to go to the attic to make space for the nursery! The travel system is up in the living room, as if we're expecting baby imminently! Work is busy with us too Sad so I feel your pain, doing a 6 day week this week (12 hour day yesterday) and on the only day off we're going to build banisters for our staircase! I'm going to need a month off to recover from all this.

MagpieCursedTea · 19/08/2016 09:24

Lucy that's my plan for this weekend, going to get all DS's baby clothes down from the attic. I'm very excited to see all his tiny stuff again!

Emz32 · 19/08/2016 17:05

Glad it's not just us with a dumping zone!! Ha ha ha. We have had a big clear out. Just need to get a new bed for DS & decorate his room. I was putting it all off until after the scan. Now I have no excuse.

I have however got a new bag & bought the toiletries for my hospital bag. (With DS I had no bag & was completely unprepared!)

LucySB123 · 19/08/2016 17:38

I was wondering whether to put baby with DD in the same room. I have a friend who didn't have a choice but to put both together and the second one sleeps like a dream. Currently I've a double bed in the soon to be nursery and I'll buy a bedside cot and a sleepyhead for our room. DD was a terrible sleeper and we are hoping for a better sleeper but having the "infrastructure" in place in case DC2 is as bad as DD. Hmm

Bella1985 · 19/08/2016 20:48

Can't help you there lucy I've only just realised baby sleeps in the same room as us for the first few months, I was imagining sticking baby in the nursery straight away. I have a lot to learn Confused

Speaking of which, any advice emz on things to put in the hospital bag? I've noticed on the december thread a lot buying a special "hospital" bag, I reckon I'll just take my mini suitcase, am I weird?! Confused

Emz32 · 19/08/2016 21:12

I am probably not the best to advise on a hospital bag... Didn't have one last time. That's why I'm getting so organised this time. I had a small suitcase last time on wheels & it was such a pain lifting on & off the bed to lie flat to unzip. So I treated myself to a small hold-all type bag from Tripp. They are having a big sale at the moment. Thought it would be easier. No you aren't weird, I'm just using it as an excuse to buy something for myself.

Realise that doesn't make sense, when I say I didn't have a bag, I did, it was half packed & what I had packed was almost useless! I hadn't got to the toiletries, snacks & drinks part yet. It was just full of clothes. So Iv been concocting a list of things I'd wished I had. Bought some travel toiletries today, a toothbrush & toothpaste etc. Last time I thought I'd have time to pack these things last minute, however I didn't, hence why I didn't have them there. This time it's being packed completely by 30 weeks so I'm prepared. (Starting to sound completely neurotic!!)

Emz32 · 19/08/2016 21:16

Toiletries, a flannel & plastic bag (I found hospital rooms so hot & the Windows don't open, a cold flannel on my face would have been good), hand fan, lip balm (Gas & air dries out your mouth & lips), drinks with straws. Change of clothes, old t shirt (for the birthing bit), lots of maternity pads (I was told not to use always as they can cause any stitches to get infected, not sure how true this is). Anyone else got some advise on contents?

Bella1985 · 19/08/2016 22:45

Cool thanks. I hadn't considered the annoyance that could be caused by having to lift suitcase on the bed to get things out. I forget that I'll have a big bump by then! The drinks and snacks thing is a new one for me too, could be there a long time so snacks does make sense! There are so many things you just can't imagine until you go through it. Really handy getting some tips, thanks!x

MagpieCursedTea · 19/08/2016 23:52

The hospital where I had DS had quite strict rules on hospital bag sizes so we couldn't have suitcases (they specifically no suitcases). I also had a separate bag for DS in the car and only had a couple of things for him (nappies, a vest and a sleep suit) in my bag for immediately after the birth to save space.
Massive pants were one of the things I was advised to have. They're just more comfortable (especially if you have a c section apparently) and it's handy for the big maternity pads. I'd also add breast pads for the leaking when your milk comes in, a couple of muslin cloths, maybe some sort of music player (I had my phone and a speaker for during labour), snacks for DH as well as me, a decent camera, a birthing TENS machine and I also had an essential oil blend for labour, DH rubbed it on my back and I found it quite relaxing (that's quite a personal preference though!)
I had an induction so packed for a long stay!

Emz32 · 20/08/2016 07:30

I badgered my DH into bringing a change of clothes which he popped into my bag. He was quite pleased to be able to grab a quick shower & change after the labour as we arrived early hours Monday & he didnt get home until 11pm Monday. He was quite hot & uncomfy. He also took a pair of shorts for the hot room to change into which he used. I wouldn't have thought about him but another mum suggested it. My labour was fairly quick & im half expecting another quick one but better to pack for the long haul. Oh and it's a good idea to have a pillow. My hospital didn't provide one so my PIL brought me one in for my overnight stay. We had the car seat with us but left it in the car as didn't know when we would need it. It came backwards & forwards with us for 2 weeks in the end. Big pants are a good idea. I have m&s big Cotten ones 2 sizes up. Plenty of room! Grin

happylass · 20/08/2016 11:54

Ladies I'm suddenly starting to panic that I've got so much to do! I know I'm only 21 weeks but I've literally done nothing! I've been too scared to start buying things before but now time seems to be running away with me! I'm a teacher so will be back in work on September 1st then I've only got 1 week off in October (and we're away for half of that) before my maternity leave starts mid December Shock
I haven't even started to think about a hospital bag (although I've seen lists of recommended contents and always wondered whether they'd fit in a bag or if a case would be better). I really need to get myself sorted! Going to focus on clearing out the spare room this weekend I think, so at least we'll have somewhere to put all this stuff once we do start buying.
Also is anyone else starting to feel really uncomfortable? I had a terrible night's sleep last night as couldn't get comfy and even sitting in certain positions is starting to hurt. My bump isn't even very big yet!

MagpieCursedTea · 20/08/2016 13:08

My hips started hurting when I was in bed pretty early on both times. I've got full on pelvic pain now. My fortress of pillows helps a bit.
Don't worry too much about being unprepared. Newborns need a surprisingly small amount of stuff and then there's all the fancy bits that are nice to have. As long as you've got a few sleep suits, some nappies and a safe place for baby to sleep, you'll be fine!

Emz32 · 20/08/2016 19:59

I second Magpies advice. We had no money when DS was born so all we bought was car seat, buggy & Moses basket along with a small amount of neutral clothing. Once your baby is here you can then pick things up as you see them. We did the nursery once he was 5 months old (he didn't go into it until 6.5 months) as we wanted to decorate for the baby once they were here. I'm only panicking about the bag as I was completely caught on the hop last time so would rather be prepared. We went to the baby show when DS was a few months old & picked up some bargains there. Found it great to try different things out but went with a list of possible items so we didn't get carried away. Just a thought.

Emz32 · 22/08/2016 12:11

I had labour/birth dreams all night lastnight. Including one of giving birth in a swimming pool cubicle next to a lady giving birth in a wedding dress. All seemed completely normal in my dream. Feeling massive now but apparently I don't look it (according to my sister who hasn't got children & doesn't want them).

Bella1985 · 22/08/2016 19:03

Emz I had my first labour dream on Saturday! It was so vivid I was worried when I woke up that I'd been trying to push baby out in my sleep!

stealthbanana · 23/08/2016 11:22

happy I am in worlds of pain - my hips are feeling awful.

Haha at the labour dreams - I had a very vivid sex dream the other night. Guess I'm a ways behind you guys Grin

Had my "20 week" scan today (at 21+3) and all was well. A large, extremely active baby boy. So relieved.

Emz32 · 23/08/2016 12:27

Great news on the scan Stealth. I had a very vivid sex dream lastnight involving husband (thankfully). My sex drive has suddenly reappeared with a Vengeance (!) Its been MIA for quite a while. DH doesn't know quite what to make of me Blush.

happylass · 23/08/2016 14:04

Great news on the scan stealth
My discomfort only lasted a day or two. I feel right as rain now I think I may just have been constipated Blush
Emz my sex drive went MIA too. Wasn't up for it for the first tri and beyond. No sooner had it returned than I was put on a sex ban by the midwife due to my fibroid. Poor DH Grin
