Hello,

So couldn't see a January baby post (probably because no one is mad enough to POAS as early as me!)

Anyway, I thought I would start one (waves). I am 28, this will be DC#2 making my 4 year old DS a big brother which he has been so excited about becoming (we haven't told him yet though as very early days!) I am roughly around 4 weeks and we're not planning on telling anyone for ages so thought I would start a thread so I have someone to get excited with!

Please come and say hello! Xx

my DH is away too. Great re having bed to myself but not great having to do everything on my own. He works long hours and away weekends quite regularly. There's one thing that scares me about having two is doing bedtime on my own! Gah. I have reinforcements planned for the first three months (mum and dad). And I keep reminding myaelf that lots of mums do it themselves!

Bella1985 · 21/07/2016 20:19

I had my 16 week appointment today, all was good and she used a doppler to find the heartbeat! I wasn't expecting it so DH wasn't with me so I recorded it on my phone for him! It was really nice to hear my pulse going through the placenta and then baby's heartbeat at the same time Smile I got a bit teary which really isn't my usual reaction to good things! Hope everyone's feeling better now that the heat has cooled down a bit x

MagpieCursedTea · 22/07/2016 09:28

So glad you got to hear the heartbeat. I was told on another thread that not all areas do it anymore. I've got my 16 week appointment next week (even though I'll be 17 weeks) and hope the midwife gets the Doppler out!

Emz32 · 22/07/2016 13:05

I had my 16 week appointment on Wednesday & the student midwife got the Doppler out. I didn't hear much of the heartbeat as my 2yr DS was making lots of noise & getting excited about the baby but it was a lovely moment. Especially when he asked the midwife to listen to daddys tummy too! Apparently I don't see her until 28 weeks which seems a long way away. In the midst of potty training DS & trying to survive the heat & not be too crabby.

Bella1985 · 22/07/2016 14:02

A colleague is in the neighbouring district of the same city as me and they didn't use a doppler at their 16 week appointment so it really depends on the midwife and the surgery.

happylass · 22/07/2016 14:15

That's lovely Bella. I had my 16 week appt on Monday and we got to hear the heartbeat too. Gender scan tomorrow is next on the agenda.
I finished work on Wednesday for 6 weeks which is very well timed as the morning sickness appears to have made an unwelcome return. It is just that though - the nausea appears straight after breakfast, I throw up then I'm right for the rest of the day!

Bella1985 · 23/07/2016 08:22

Wow hapylass I hadn't considered it could make a return, perhaps its this heat? Good luck with your gender scan! We're going to keep it as a surprise as its our first baby but I'm a little jealous of people who are finding out!

stealthbanana · 23/07/2016 09:02

Yep my nausea has made a return this week, albeit a limited one - has been coming and going (as opposed to constant) and have only vomited a couple of times (as opposed to multiple times each day). Still. I'm 17 weeks - surely I should be past this?!

Emz32 · 23/07/2016 09:17

Stealth I'm still suffering too. It's more nausea that comes and goes. But it's rubbish. Couldn't eat the dinner my DH made lastnight (BBQ). I'm 16+5 & hoped to be over it too. Maybe it's just taking a little longer?? Hope it does eventually go. I do feel much better if I'm actually sick too

stealthbanana · 23/07/2016 09:57

Yes it's funny - now being sick will mark the end of the nausea whereas before it was just nausea then vomit then still feeling nauseous. Ad nauseam (ho ho - excuse pun).

I've realised it is definitely worse if I eat sugary foods so am begrudgingly trying to be good - hard when I'm CRAVING sugar!

Hopefully for all of us this is just mild and it goes again.

Has anyone else had major stretching pains too? My tummy has been feeling like I've had a massive ab workout the last few days?! No bump yet but I wonder if the little one is doing some internal renovations!

MagpieCursedTea · 23/07/2016 10:31

Yes to the stretching pains and it's so much worse if I've been really active. Trying to take it easy but it's difficult with a toddler.
My nausea had been getting better but isn't great in the heat. I find sucking ice cubes helps a bit.

happylass · 24/07/2016 11:22

Team Blue for us! So lovely to see him again on the scan, especially as our 20 week scan isn't until mid August.
Today I feel the best I've felt in ages and I've just started a marathon clearing out spree. Won't get too carried away though as I had a day feeling like this a few weeks back but I went straight back to feeling knackered/sick the following day 😬

stealthbanana · 24/07/2016 11:56

Hurrah happy! Welcome to team blue. and long live the feeling great too!

magpie it's really strange. I keep expecting to see something pop out but apart from a hard roundness in my lower belly (which I assume is my uterus) nada yet!

MagpieCursedTea · 24/07/2016 12:33

Happylass great news! Take it easy, I keep having bursts of energy, doing too much then taking 24 hours to recover. I never seem learn though!

Stealth I just took my weekly bump photo and have definitely popped since last week's. I wouldn't have noticed without the progress photos though. I didn't realise how big I looked. Are you doing bump photos? You might notice more of a difference on them.

stealthbanana · 24/07/2016 12:43

No not doing bump photos. Am just going on how my clothes fit. Boobs are definitely getting bigger but stomach not so much!

Bella1985 · 24/07/2016 14:01

My lower belly is soft but from my bust down to my belly button it's really hard. Is anyone else like this? I look about 7 months pregnant and I'm only 17 weeks! Not sure the top should be this big so early.

Great news happylass

MagpieCursedTea · 24/07/2016 15:04

Bella the top of my stomach always seems to go hard before the bottom. I googled it like mad last time but never found anything about it. The best reason I can think of is that everything gets pushed upwards?

stealthbanana · 24/07/2016 16:00

Ooh maybe you're having girls? Isn't that meant to be the old wives tale?

Just got back from a mammoth shopping spree. Got some much needed new bras from tk maxx to house my ever-growing bombolinos. And a couple of nice non maternity drapey dresses from Cos and M&S. Hopefully they'll take me through to the beached whale third tri look Grin - am trying to keep the expenditure to a minimum in this weird intermediate phase but I need some stuff for work that houses my bust!

Bella1985 · 24/07/2016 17:08

I've also been trying to buy tops and dresses that fit now but have room to stretch later on!

magpie I'm glad its not just me, I've googled it too and couldn't find a satisfying answer. I've also put it down to organs moving up to make space for the uterus, I'm 5 foot 1 so I have quite a short torso, surely this must contribute to it somehow..?! Confused

Emz32 · 26/07/2016 22:02

I was feeling much better with less nausea so I tried not taking the anti sick meds. Then spent the evening being very sick whilst trying to make dinner (which I couldn't then eat!). Lesson learned for now. Belly is huge! It's sticking out already from under my bust, I'm only 17 weeks but feel about 25!! Potty training my DS has been exhausting on top of not sleeping & the heat but now we are almost there's its worth it. Feel like I need to sleep for a long time!!! How's everyone else feeling? Had hoped the sickness would have stopped by now,

LucySB123 · 27/07/2016 16:18

16wk appt today (although am 17wks) with the consultant. Got to hear baby's HB which was great. Will get additional growth scans at 28 and 34 weeks due to low Papp-a. My care seems to have migrated to the consultant as the next few are with her. Don't mind though as she is really nice. Now really looking forward to 20wk scan and really pleased I get a few more before due date. Hope everyone else is doing well Smile

Admarks · 27/07/2016 17:05

Hi everyone, sorry for the lack of contact recently- I'm still feeling shattered (although the not as bad as the first trimester) and barely keeping up with this thread (and the Dec and Jan threads) let alone contributing!

Sorry to hear that the sickness is still persisting for some of you - let hope the 'blooming' and full of energy stage makes an appearance for us all soon!

How is everyone finding work - I'm struggling so much with motivation at the moment (made worse by working from home today !). Don't know how I am going to keep going to mid December!!!

I'm beginning to get a bit worried about not feeling any flutters or kicks yet- this is my first and I'm 17+ 5 at the moment. I think I felt something a couple of weeks ago (like bubbles popping in my tummy) when we were in the car. But nada since- should I be concerned? 20 week scan seems like a long time away (17th August).

Also weight gain - I've been ravenous this whole time and have gained nearly 5kg since bfp. Does sound much but I was 56kg before so it's quite a big percentage increase!! I'm worried I will be the size of a house at the end!!

Bella1985 · 27/07/2016 20:40

admarks I don't think you need to worry too much about weight gain, maybe your mw could advise you on how much to aim for, I'm sure I've seen it calculated somewhere based on bmi how much you should try to keep it to (lower bmi can put on more than those with high bmi at start of their pregnancy). I've had a few weeks of feeling ravenous and not nauseaus so let go and enjoyed food but I'm going to start watching it more carefully now and limiting to healthy, nutritious foods (as much as possible!) as I had a high bmi to begin with! Also, haven't felt a thing and I'm at the same point as you - 17+5. I think its normal with the first baby, I'm trying to keep calm about it trying sometimes panicking until the 20week scan and then will ask mw for advice if still no movement by then.

lucy that's reassuring that they will monitor growth due to papp-a and yay to seeing your baby more often before birth Smile

emz gutted you're still feeling ill, hope it goes away soon.

Less tired now but I'm going on a hen weekend on friday, not sure I have enough energy to party from friday till sunday without much sleep or any alcohol to keep me going...Blush

Admarks · 27/07/2016 21:13

Thanks Bella I'm trying to be a bit healthier with the food and trying to not eat constantly but find I start feeling ill if I don't eat. However, Im loving potatoes esp chips and crisps, which I know are not too good for me especially in the quantities I'm eating! My Midwife didn't weight me at 16week appointment and I had to ask to be weighted at booking. Not sure if that's because my bmi is in the 'normal' range or just lazy midwifes. Anyway I will just keep eating as I need....

Good luck on the hen do this weekend- I had a busy Saturday last weekend - wall paper stripping (not the best move on the hottest Saturday of the year so far) followed by a night out seeing a tribute band. Got back at 1.30 - needless to say I did not do much on Sunday!

Admarks · 27/07/2016 21:15

Ohh - and also good to have a due date buddy!
