Hi Rubytuesday. My first was a winter baby and I used a sheet to swaddle. But this timd I plan on using a giant muslin. I was pricing some up this afternoon. I found i could add layers over the swaddle if needed but it will be more obvious than you think. You just don't swaddle too tightly or too loosely and use common sense and instinct

GoingLoopyQuickly · 13/05/2016 21:53

The fun bit about swaddling is the unswaddling when you transition from arms and legs in to one arm out then the other etc before they can roll over.

Cheery1 · 13/05/2016 23:11

Just nipping in to say fantastic news Cheeky/Mel - so happy for you and wishing you a happy healthy pregnancy xxxx

Still doing this bonkers work project, nearly done. Been trying to keep up with all the news but failing dismally. Hello lovely ladies and that's all for now. Glad everyone seems to be doing ok! X

minieggaddict · 14/05/2016 07:33

Hi everyone 😊

Congratulations Cheeky, that's lovely news.

Am away for the weekend which is lovely but been waking up stupid early and really hungry and neither dh or dd look likely to wake up soon! Must buy snacks to keep by the bed lol! Will start making noise soon I think....

The comments I get on being pregnant is a regular thing. Yesterday 3 complete strangers said something. One said I looked tired too! Bloomin cheek. It's good prep for when you have the baby and get endless unwanted advice, or they jabber on about their kids who no doubt slept and ate well and potty trained themselves in one day. Then there's the "in my day we did this blah blah". Hmm

Bluebell20 · 14/05/2016 11:47

Oh gosh, so much to catch up on!

Cheeky, absolutely thrilled about your news. Wishing you a healthy pregnancy!

Cookies my mate had one of those feeding cover things and I personally thought it looked a bit annoying. Another friend of mine just used a big floaty-type scarf and I think that's the route I'm going to go down.

Missing really glad your OH's cousin is on the mend and that baby is doing well. What a traumatic situation.

Kaytee, pulpi and everyone else, I am also having comments on bump size! People are always surprised when I say there are still more than 6 weeks to go - but I am measuring bang on, so I know I'm not overly big.

Welcome RubyTuesday!

Nice to hear from you Cheery. Hope work slows down for you soon!

I'm cracking on with sorting out baby stuff. Got a new moses basket mattress from Little Green Sheep (hoorah, I won that argument!), I picked up a beauuuuutiful Dutailier nursing chair and footstool through Gumtree (DH reckons it's the best thing we've ever bought for the house - I'm going to struggle to get him out of it!), and I have arranged to buy a friend's set of SmartiPants washable nappies which are in super condition - and buying them second hand is going to save me about £150.

This weekend's job (and it's a big one) is to clear out as much as I can of upstairs so that we can start getting the nursery put together. I'm feeling very motivated at the moment! I'm also feeling ruthless - I have combed through my bookshelves again and yanked out about 40 books to go to charity. Every little helps!

Yesterday I noticed a significant change in that I suddenly needed to pee very frequently, and my walking became a proper waddle. Could it be that baby's head is starting to drop down and engage? I am going to be interested to see what the midwife says about his position next Wednesday...

Thistledew · 14/05/2016 15:13

I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself today and am currently in hospital. Sad

DH and I were supposed to go to visit my parents this weekend - particularly as my elderly father has had some falls recently and we were going to help rearrange their house a bit. However, I woke up with a sore throat this morning- probably just hayfever but I couldn't risk it being a cold that I would pass on to him so we decided not to go.

DH and I were having a lie in instead and I started bleeding- mostly brown but a bit red as well. I wasn't having any pains, but decided to go straight to hospital, which fortunately is only a couple of minutes away by car.

I have been admitted for monitoring for 24 hrs. The bleeding had mostly stopped by the time they had finished the initial checks, and all blood and urine are fine. Baby is fine- heart rate is good and the midwives/ nurses have had fun chasing him about with the monitor as he would not lie still for the 20 mins they wanted to run the trace for but has been wiggling about all over the place.

They are going to give me some steroid injections to bring on his lung function just in case he does make an early appearance, but they are not too worried about this happening at the moment.

I am obviously very relieved that all is ok with baby, but feeling rather pathetic and sorry for myself, not only that I got a sore throat which meant I can't go and see my dad, but that I'm now on bed rest for the day and can't even help DH with all the stuff that needs doing in the house. The weird silver lining from the day is that if I had not had the sore throat, we would have been half way up the M11 when I started bleeding! It's odd how things work out sometimes.

Cheery1 · 14/05/2016 15:59

Oh Thistle - what a rubbish day! So glad you're in the hospital though and being looked after. Also brilliant that the baby and you are ok. Don't worry about the house - you can still direct DH Wink - that's very helpful I find! Sending hugs xxx

pulpi · 14/05/2016 16:27

Thistle take it easy and take care of yourself. I'm sure everything will be fine and you're in absolutely the best place you can be.

GoingLoopyQuickly · 14/05/2016 16:28

You did the right thing Thisletdew. How many weeks are you? I bled at 26 and 29 weeks with DS and it all worked out fine but gave me lots of assurance in the way they looked after me. They kept an eye on me and signed me off consultant care at 36 weeks and DS arrived at home, as planned at 38+4.

Take the opportunity to rest. You probably need it.

GoingLoopyQuickly · 14/05/2016 16:33

I wondered if any of you had any ideas but I keep getting pains across the underside of my bump since at least yesterday afternoon. I thought I might need a clear out (tmi) but that doesn't seem to have helped. I didn't get BH with DS amd thought that would explain this pain, but I didn't think they were supposed to hurt. Also, it crossed my mind that I have maybe pulled something with all the coughing and nose blowing from my cold, but there doesn't seem to be any link between when I cough or blow and when the pain comes.

Any ideas. Would you think it is just ligaments stretching?

FifiRebel · 14/05/2016 18:45

Our thread disappeared from my list of posts I'm on Confused lying down ready to read what everyone has been up to! X

Cookiesandcoffee · 14/05/2016 20:17

thistle very glad for you everything is ok. Fingers crossed baby stays comfy and safe in there :) definitely better it happened while you were at home, some things do strangely happen for a reason. Even if you did sadly miss out. Definitely still instruct DH from the comfort of bed/sofa!

Thanks for the advice bluebell lucia and others - I've always kind of felt that would be the case with these covers, however I was always so self conscious to feed in certain public places last time it did hinder the experience. I would literally sit in a toilet. How pathetic/upsetting is that. Where my boobs were so big. And literally a lot lot bigger than even a 6 month olds head ConfusedBlush
bluebell your purchases and hard work sound great! You really are nesting and getting sorted!! I know exactly what you mean about baby being lower and also wondered the same. I will ask at mine on Tuesday.

Welcome Ruby . I used to swaddle dd2 but it was winter. I had a swaddle pod. The summer I had dd1 it was soooo hot so she literally slept in a nappy and sometimes a thin vest. And no covers! But our house then was very warm indeed. I'm going to monitor room temp and feel back of baby's neck and play it by ear.

Nearly 33 weeks and feeling it now!

FifiRebel · 14/05/2016 22:04

Indians - your 4D scan pics are amazing, baby looks like a little cherub! So tempted to treat myself to one...

Lulabells - glad to hear your movements picked up, it's so worrying isn't it! Making a note of the star jumps trick incase I have concerns again

Kaytee - try not to worry about size, it's no-ones business but comments can be really hurtful.

Cheeky - what lovely news! Really pleased for you

Thistle - how are you feeling? Sounds scary but you're in the right place 😊
I went shopping yesterday and couldn't believe how slowly I'm walking!!! It's ridiculous but I just get tired so easily and everything feels achy. I keep getting such a pressure down below aswell, which then makes me need the toilet immediately. When I had my growth scan the other week I was told baby is head down (don't think engaged) so I guess that explains it.

Glad to see I'm not the only one counting down to maternity leave! I finish on 17 June but only have 3 more trips to London to do yay! Working from home exclusively for some weeks.

I'm starting to get a bit nervous about the reality of a baby. Have done a bulk order of baby books to read on my pre-baby mat leave. I'm so glad to have this thread as I know everyone will be a great support when we finally have our babies

Thistledew · 15/05/2016 07:09

Thanks for all the support. Very much appreciated- especially to hear from those who have had small bleeds and healthy term babies.

I'm officially 31 weeks today, but obviously don't want anything dramatic to happen for another 6 weeks at least.

I had a small amount of spotting over night- much less than yesterday, but am worried they will want to keep me in again. I live just 5 mins drive from the hospital and DH can drive me here if anything happens so I'm really hoping they will let me go home after I have had the second steroid injection.

GoingLoopyQuickly · 15/05/2016 08:15

Thistledew. The policy here is to keep you in for three days (two nights) nd that is without spotting and I can see my bedroom window from the maternity ward. So I had the same argument as you. It is really important they monitor you.

Jem01 · 15/05/2016 10:04

Lots of great advice on bedding Anna thanks for the tip on air wrap bumpers! Posted previously about my Braxton hicks, I'm still getting them!!

Welcome RubyTuesday!

Thistle so glad to hear everything is ok take care and rest up.

Jem01 · 15/05/2016 10:05

Last Thursday colleagues threw me a fab baby shower and had a another one with friends and family. Really was such a lovely day.

On Friday had a growth scan appointment last week as originally measuring too small now too big (figures!) doctor thinks it's polyhdramnios (too much fluid in amniotic sac) so took another gtt (despite my results at 27 weeks normal) and more bloods for testing to rule out anything else. Was slightly worried when told but now feeling a bit better - it's out of my control now so no will just wait and see what results of gtt and bloods.

Really struggling to sleep these days, baby's head is down so uncomfortable!

Sorry for the epic post!

Thistledew · 15/05/2016 10:17

Gutted. They do want to keep me in for another day/night. Sad

I'm hating being in here, and am tempted to self discharge, but having discussed with DH I do accept that this isn't about me, but the baby, so just have to suck it up.

I will have the scan tomorrow morning to see where the placenta is, so fingers crossed for some good news that it has moved.

Thistledew · 15/05/2016 10:19
  • Missed some info there- the only reason they are concerned is that at the 20 wk scan the placenta was partially covering the cervix, so there are concerns that is still the cause of the bleed.
primarynoodle · 15/05/2016 10:38

Thistle sorry you are having a crap time and about your dad. You are in the best place though! Send DH to go and get you a lovely coffee and a treat or something!

Cant remember who said about constant needing the toilet meaning maybe babys head has engaged - ive been wondering this too as in the last 3 days ive had the same thing (although may just be that baby has turned head down as was previously breech). Also "down there" seems almost swollen? May just be gravity though! TMI alert Blush

Cookiesandcoffee · 15/05/2016 10:39

Oh thistle as much as it sucks it's probably for the best, just in case and probably just on the side of caution. You're in The best place. Can DH bring you in some trashy magazines or a good book or something? Try and stay sane Flowers good luck for your scan and keep us posted. Hoping that pesky placenta has moved.

jem best of luck for your results, hope everything is ok. Did they measure the baby from the scan? Or just the fluid? Your baby showers sound lovely, as much as I said I didn't want one I do feel a little ping of jealousy hearing of all yours

Went to the gym this morning and for the first time couldn't do my squats Sad I know it's trivial and pathetic but I was using a really low weight and still felt like baby was going to pop out every time I lowered so had to stop. Don't know where it's come from as last week was fine. I'm very suspicious that baby is starting to engage down there. Subsequent babies often don't engage, but someone did 'comment' my bump looked a bit lower the other day.

Dowhatyoulove123 · 15/05/2016 12:05

This thread moves so fast!

Hope you are all keeping well. I had my GD test and it came back normal Grin more cake!

Having my next scan this week for my 30 weeks so I'm excited to see little girl. I've been picking bits and pieces up - went to some second hand sales this weekend and got the most amazing bargains!

FifiRebel · 15/05/2016 12:16

Thistle - sorry to hear you're being kept in, hope you can relax as much as possible.

Noodle - that was me and I have similar sort of swollen feeling Confused very odd

I'm wearing the same outfit today as the last bump pic I posted so thought I'd do another one for comparison! 29 + 3

AnnaT45 · 15/05/2016 14:50

Oh thistle I'm so sorry you're going through this. Hospital sucks but agree with others get DH to get you some nice decent food to eat and some books. Reading books become impossible with kids so take this time to indulge! Also please try not to worry I know it's still early but a friend of a friend is a nurse for premature babies and always says once they are 30 weeks they have a really great chance of being ok. Hang on in there Cake

primary that was me with the weeing! Saw midwife Thursday and baby is breech so it's the feet kicking my bladder that's giving me pain! But yes could be the head in your case.

going what kind of pain is it? Constant or stabbing? I keep getting sharp pain when I sneeze or get up quickly. Is it like that?

fifi you look lovely!!!!!

Bluebell20 · 15/05/2016 16:47

Thistle I really hope everything is okay and that they find that the placenta has moved. Hope you get home soon, too. Thinking of you. X

primary, Fifi and Anna, had to laugh as I also think it was me who said about weeing / wondering if baby's head was beginning to engage! Interestingly I also feel rather swollen and sore today around the old foof. Looking forward to seeing the midwife on Wednesday to find out more about where my little boy is at!

I've been clearing out that dratted spare room at last, ready for its conversion to nursery. I'm being as ruthless as I know how - bags and bags of stuff going to charity, recycling or tip. It feels so good! I still have a long way to go, but making a start is just so cheering.

DH has booked for us to look round the birthing unit in a couple of weeks' time, which is rather exciting. Are any of you looking round a few, or are you just sticking to one? We have three options from where we live - all of them 45 mins to an hour away in good traffic, which is a bit of a pig! Hoping my labour doesn't get going during rush hour!
