melvali / CSS wow!!! Congratulations! Thank you so much for sharing the fantastic news. It probably doesn't feel real yet. Very happy for you and really hope everything goes smoothly. Raising an imaginary G&T for you!

Thanks for the tips on those feeding covers ladies, think you're probably right. I've bought a couple of oversized muslins so think I'll stick with those. Plus much more 'breathable' for the heat. I just want to be a bit more discrete when out for meals/coffees over summer- especially with 2 other DDS in tow.. Worry about boobs and nips hanging out everywhere as I chase after DD2..

beautician that's gorge!! So my taste too. I've bought a similar nautical romper from H&M but that matching hat really is to die for! Eekk!

speak that is one long wait! You're much more patient than me. Lovely story with the doctor though in the end.

Ok so I shall attempt to explain the leg exercises I've been doing .. Whilst sitting up on the bed and propping yourself with some pillows, legs out in front..
One leg at a time... firstly flexing your toes x5.. Then move on to the ankle and flex that 5 times (without moving the toes) .. Then you bring the foot towards the body and bend the knee, then drop the knee to the side and bring the foot back down, straightening the leg as you go. Repeat 5 times. Then do the reverse (so knee wide as you pull foot towards you, then knee in and replace the foot back down) x5 times. Then give some really big rubs with lots of pressure and work up the leg. Then do the other leg. Hope that makes sense!!!

That and drinking gallons of water I'm sure has helped a lot. Could manage my Birkenstocks today! Grin

Babys father and grandparents just been round, the baby is doing fabulously hes breathing on his ownGrin mum is doing okay too, she is getting moved to the maternity ward tomorrow hopefully so she will be finally able to see her son! Its amazing how much of a fighter he is and as soon as he is healthy and the hospital are happy he can come home same as mum Smile

BelOfTheBall79 · 12/05/2016 23:58

Wow Melvali that's amazing news congratulations!x

GoingLoopyQuickly · 13/05/2016 04:37

Smallplainblonde. If you are looking for bumpers it is recommended to go for airmesh ones. Otherwise bumpers pose a suffocation risk.

Kaytee. Don't worry about the baby size. It is one of those questions that go with the persistently private and rude questions people ask when you have a newborn. The most infuriating imo is "is she good"? "Meaning does she sleep through?" "No she doesn't. She is a newborn and needs feeding every couple of hours because her stomach is smaller than my thumbnail. But yes she is good because she is a newborn and will not be "naughty" for a few years yet when she is testing boundarieslike her peers which still won't make her naughty!"

But staying on track and away from that, my friend gave birth (throughthe sunroof I might add) to an 11lb baby and she is perfect and not "big". My DS is 2and a half and we are edging towards 4/5 year old clothes and you wouldn't know it to look at him. Forget what anyone else might think beyond your own paranoia, your baby will be perfect and everyone else can do one. Enjoy it and know that I am a wee bit jealous you get to see squish again before holding him.

I am getting the "you are huge" comments even though I was measuring 29 weeks at 28+3. O tried to explain that I still had 10 cm to grow and my colleague was just confuses. She is a lovely lady and it was all meant in a sweet way as it usually is, but can feel a little invasice if you let it

GoingLoopyQuickly · 13/05/2016 05:01

So hard to keep up on here:

Cheeky. Congrats. Fab news. Well played super sperm and super egg

If you are low on iron, get a prescription from the doc. Although someone recommended spatone (as did my mw) i wouldn't be able to afford it so I am sticking to my white coated non offensive iron prescription from the doc with it not overly offensive side order of lactulose. It must be working as my blood count came up normal this week and I feel more energised despite having a bitch of a cold.

As for vests and layers etc. Don't panic. You will not be alone and you can dress yourself so will know whether it i cd or not. (That isn't meant to be patronising but to give you confidence). My DS was a hot baby (born on December) and I never needed many layers with him. The general rule of thumb is the same as you plus one layer. But that does depend a little on the kiddo. What I can tell you for sure is that when you are clearing up you third pooslposion or stealth vomming, you will grab whatever vest/babygrow/top that is clean and handy. You will care less about the colour and more about getting the little one dressed and wiping your clothes clean because you will have already change twice and can't be arsed to change again :)

I used a nursing cover thing with DS and did find it useful but I had a cheap one and although I tend not go spending all the money one things like clothes (I buy bundles or supermarket own brands), I remember promising myself to invest in a decent one "next time". Particularly if I am going to be chasing a toddler around!

Thanks forcthe water retention tips. I am starting to bloat out and feel really heavy. Last time I ended up with carpel tunnel and cankles and that was unpleasant to say the least.

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 13/05/2016 07:15

Oh Cheeky that's brilliant news! I'm so pleased for you. I quite often think of you as I think you were from round the Edinburgh area as well? I hope everything goes well for you from here on in.

I'm not keeping up with this thread at all! What's going on with me:

Diabetes going broadly OK. I'm on 2 tablets of metformin a day now, but still seem to be getting the odd high fasting blood sugar. My consultant isn't really concerned about them though, as my overall averages are remaining pretty stable. Bump is measuring two weeks ahead though, so I have a growth scan on Tuesday. It's common for babies of diabetic mums to be too big. I'm worried about this, so I can understand how you feel Kaytee!

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 13/05/2016 07:18

Didn't mean to press post so soon!

I've now agreed with work that I will finish up on 03 June, when I will be 36+4. So only three weeks to go! It's a massive relief, as I feel knackered already.

Still feel like I've got lots to do, but haven't got a grip on what it all is! I will be induced in Week 39 (unless I go into labour naturally before that anyway) so it looks like a maximum of 6 weeks before baby arrives. Exciting but scary!

33+4

AnnaT45 · 13/05/2016 08:34

All of those getting the 'you're so big' comments I am too and midwife told me yesterday I'm measuring at 26 weeks even though I was almost 29. I think most people just don't have context and also I do think bumps just shoot out over night which is probably what people refer to. Try not to take it heart I genuinely don't think people mean it badly.

going that's good you're feeling ok and great on sorting dates with work! I finish at the same time 36 + 4!

missing I'm so pleased all is well. How scary got your family but please don't worry it's very rare. That said I agree if you have a headache that won't go, go in. I hate being negative but I know a girl who didn't have such a great outcome, so please listen to your bodies!

thom you totally deserved that day off! How are you feeling now? It's so bloody stressful our developer won't give us a date and it's driving me round the bend! I need to now to take time off work, book movers, sort this house out and get child care! rahhhhhh! I'm glad DH as taken it over for you, that's for the best. My friend moved at a similar gestation to us and got really high blood pressure and signed off from work so we must take it easy!

As mentioned saw midwife yesterday all fine but bub is breech which doesn't bother me as plenty of time to move and also it's highly unlikely it will be born naturally anyway so it doesn't matter! Had to go to London for work afterwards and then company dinner. Everyone was really pissed and the food took so long that I ended up leaving at 9.30 and getting a Burger King at the station lol. I was just too tired to stay out longer!

Anyone else getting braxton hicks? I didn't get them last time, they're really annoying!!!!

Thom80 · 13/05/2016 09:53

Thank you, I feel a bit silly getting so stressed about everything. I haven't been feeling well & I think that wasn't helping at all. I am currently ignoring the phone calls & allowing OH to deal. I am having a quiet morning & seeing how I feel. I hope you get a dated sorted too, it must be very frustrating.
anna - I have seen the MW & baby is breech too. I know that from the last scan but they confirmed the baby hadn't moved. Like you, I am very relaxed. Because of my complicated medical history, medical intervention. in some form is going to be necessary. If baby is happy, I am happy!
cheeky I am so pleased, congratulations. Hope it all goes well.
missing - so pleased that everything is working out. I suffer from chronic hypertension & my midwife gave a list of things to look out for, which matches what someone posted on here (sorry can't remember who).

Vickie360 · 13/05/2016 11:08

Hi I can't keep up with you all! Looking forward to the weekend and hoping the sunshine comes back.
Congratulations cheeky that's amazing news wishing you a stress free 8 months.

Thanks everyone!

You and me- yes I'm from edin!

Thom80 · 13/05/2016 12:51

Cheeky - a fantastic city, I was born there although now live in London. I have many finds memories.

photographerlady · 13/05/2016 15:21

Happy Friday. We seemed to make it through that horribly swampy hot day yesterday. I have no idea how I talked myself into another July baby. Roll on cankle season!

response to layers tbh I wouldn’t worry in my experience if you are happy to and at home your LO might spend a lot of time just in a nappy. My DD spent the first 4 weeks either tucked in my top or laying on my chest in just a nappy and skin to skin. This was mainly for breastfeeding but also she was more content that way. I don’t think we ended up using any of the newborn/first size outfits. (Picture as reference)

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut mat leave will be here before you know it. June is my work from home month which will be lovely. I have a lot to handover but really fancy the idea of just being in the garden on my laptop. Will go in for meeting if needed but the boss even offered to pick me up so I didn’t have to drive.

Cookiesandcoffee in regards to bf covers I have always just used a loose muslin square to hide my boob. Two month in though I just whipped it out, LO head covered most of it all anyway/ I am too tired to care :)

SpeakNoWords glad the appointment went well, on the bright side a least they didn’t bring up where they were last time they saw you heheehe

BeauticianNotMagician81 poor you. I am convinced this pregnancy glow thing is just one big myth.

CheekyChickSSS Congrats!!!!

Lucia82 · 13/05/2016 18:23

Congratulations cheeky great news X

On BF covers- my SIL said that while she felt a bit self conscious at first, she realised the less fuss she made, the less people seemed to notice. She said once she got over that bump, there were a lot of instances where people would be chatting away and had not realised at all what she was doing. Where as, faffing about with layers, clothing alterations etc all took much longer and drew more attention. Plus baby gets closer to crying waiting around.

I do think wearing helpful clothes obviously helps with that though :)

Have a great weekend everyone

31+1

TheMissingPieceToMyPuzzle · 13/05/2016 18:45

I had a bit of a scare today, was getting lower back pain that was coming and going and intensifying. Along with this I had period like cramps and tightening, called the hospital and they got me in for monitoring, however everything is all good was all a false alarm which was very relieving to hear!! Still getting niggly pains but no where near as bad Smile

Hope youre all okay!!

pulpi · 13/05/2016 20:23

CSS/Melvali best news I've heard all week! Congrats from up here in Fife!

Yesterday, the baby had the hiccups, which was pretty cute. Less cute was the fact that his head was resting right on my bladder. I don't think I've ever run to the bathroom that fast!

Just over 9 weeks left to go, but it's open season. "Oh you look like you're about ready to pop, what do you mean you have 10 weeks left?!".... as though somehow they are better informed on my pregnancy than me. Nevermind that I'm measuring completely normal.

Ugh. Bastards.

Also, the pregnancy has turned me into a Wookiee. Me and the lady who waxes my upper lip are pretty much best friends now. I'm going buy her a bottle of fizz when all this is over to thank her for keeping Groucho Marx under some degree of control.

30+1 and feeling a bit stabby. Ice cream will fix that. Ice cream fixes everything.

Rubytuesday2980 · 13/05/2016 21:09

Hi Ladies,

Have recently found this thread as a friend told me how much help and support the thread was that she joined when expecting her two. Have seen some great advice already and so nice to read of similar symptoms etc!

I have a question for those who've done this before - would really like to try swaddling, but not sure how this works in the summer? If July is really hot, can you still swaddle with a big muslin, and what (if anything) do you dress lo in?

Hope you've all got nice plans for the weekend x
