Sorry pressed send too early. About the baby pulling the books out. Going to have to think about moving them now. Almost worth moving house to get the library I have always wanted! I hate getting rid of books.
I love the blanket. It is so good. I am terrible at anything creative.
I am going to stay in, & watch house of cards in my pjs. I am trying to get DH interested in baby stuff without luck. We aren't buying anything until early July, which is getting really hard...

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 09/04/2016 18:45

We only really have children's books in our house as DH and I don't really have time to read. Impossible with a toddler about and in the evenings we converse about our day with the soaps in the background.

Thom80 · 09/04/2016 18:46

Apols for the numerous typos!!!

dats · 09/04/2016 19:19

We have two bookcases and DD does pull them out but not to any great degree and not all the time, by any means. On one bookcase, the bottom shelf is all her books, which seems to make sense. In her room, we have her books in nice boxes on the floor but that's because she (still) has the most spartan room ever, despite moving in almost a year ago. Poor child! Blush

Puzzle that sounds miserable, hope you're feeling better now and can have a relaxing evening.

Bluebell do you have a loft you could store books in temporarily if you think you may move in the relatively short term? Or someone else's loft with a bit of space for a few boxes? Blanket is looking lovely - I have that project bag Wink

Managed to hang pictures - hooray. And they're mostly straight. I'm waiting for the point at which I can enjoy looking at them at rather than squinting at the lines and angles!

Weather mostly been rubbish here today, but now a golden sunny evening. I'd like to be sat in a pub garden (although in reality it's flippin chilly) but instead I'm stillllllll in my pyjamas, I hate myself!!! Going to make flatbreads for dinner to have with a beetrooty/pomegranate/leafy salad with halloumi & houmous. That wipes out DD's birthday cake and all the chocolate I've eaten today, right?

Man I'm such a catch, right now...

FifiRebel · 09/04/2016 20:16

Place marking! Need to catch up

Cookiesandcoffee · 09/04/2016 21:13

Marking place! You have been chatty already ladies!

puzzle hope you are ok and relaxing now.

I can't remember the last time I read a book.. On our honeymoon I think! We do however have a LOT of children's books.
bluebell the blanket is absolutely gorgeous. I have a lot of purple things for my girls (as I got SO SO sick of pink) so I might be inclined to tone in some green? That's me personally. But don't take away from what you've done it's absolutely beautiful. I think beautician is right with clever storage- I would definitely make a trip to IKEA and get some inspiration. Although you do already have some great storage with all those cubes. I know it's more costly than IKEA but even some up high built in cupboards? Or even shelving? We have recently just redone our playroom with lots of high up shelving (to keep baby away from many small pieces/paints etc)
beautician have a lovely time away. I'm not even sure we will get our cheapy UK holiday in this year after all. Was going to do May half term but we would both rather save our holiday as money is tight and can't afford paternity pay. Even if the weather isn't great I'm sure you will still have a lovely time away for the last time as a 5some. And make lots of lovely memories Smile

allthegood how was your shopping spree? Sounds like you must have got some great stuff. What a lovely friend! Good to have!

becks I'm definitely bigger than you at 27+5, you look lovely and neat. Thanks for sharing your pic Smile

Can't remember who else said on the old thread they had put on 2 stone too. I'm glad it's not just me. I genuinely believe a stone of mine would well be from my boobs!? They are SO heavy. And about 4 cup sizes bigger? Please can we unite against BMI-shaming-midwives everywhere?! What gets me is that I haven't even been particularly unhealthy?! Like we eat whole foods, cooked from scratch. I have eaten a bit more carbs/gluten/cheese but still.

TheMissingPieceToMyPuzzle · 09/04/2016 22:06

I am fine now thank you ladies, been a lovely relaxing afternoon after an eventful morning! Went and had a browse round some shops and bought even more clothes for little man! And evening spent watching bgt and treated to a kebab nom nom Grin I have a lot of catching up to do!! But as of Tuesday I have 3 months left which means 3rd trimesterGrinGrinGrin exciting times Smile

GoingLoopyQuickly · 09/04/2016 22:53

I have culled my books over the years but still have enough for DS to explore. He has books in his room, two shelves in the bookcase downstairs and can see all my books in my bedroom. Although we have removed any dangerous stuff that might be toddler accessible, we haven't channged much in our home. Our theory is that you can only bubble wrap the littles so much at home but there are sharp corners everywhere outside your home. So we have tried to teach how to live with things and we don't and have never had a problem with books being yanked from the shelf. There have been times when DS got very exocted and took his books off the shelf. But he was very young and we have taught him better. He is good at putting away, including his toys and books and attempts to make his own bed in the morning. Of course he is two years old and I don't expect this to follow into his teens...

Nursery wise, I had to get help from a sleep coach for DS (best £50 I have ever spent) and one of the things she told me was to clear his room of clutter and toys. He was allowed his books because they are part of his routine but to keep everything else simple. He has a few bit to make his room cosy and I have been able to reintroduce a few toys, but we certainly won't be overloading the new nursery with toys or stuff. Although books will be present. Tbh the cot is just going to be put in the spare room as it is at first while we finish our extension and can use the new space for living space.

Is anyone else suffering from a really uncomfortable bump. I seem to be getting so many pulls and pushes from this one. I am sure it wasn't this painful with pg1. I have even started supporting my bump at night with a beanbag pillow. And i am only 24+2.

I feel very much like I am already in tri three!

Sophia1984 · 10/04/2016 00:07

GoingLoopy I'm only 23 weeks but my bump is really sore :-( Finding it hard to sleep so am using lots of pillows and have been doing for a couple of weeks. He's a kicky little thing too! Think it's cause I have a posterior placenta so can feel every jab.. I've felt so physically tired out by carrying this extra weight around today. My abdominal muscles are also useless (have diastasis recti already) so getting a lot of back pain. I know I shouldn't whinge, but it's hard when it feels like your body can't do what it usually does!

Bluebell20 · 10/04/2016 09:09

becks super bump pic, I missed it in the middle of posting all my own pics!

Beautician thank you so much, those are INCREDIBLY helpful suggestions! I guess you are a master at space-saving with your kids! Love the idea of tubs at the bottom and books higher up. And yes, we're not really attached to any of the furniture except the guest bed, which is space-saving in itself - all of our furniture has been scavenged at various points, so we could definitely do with thinking more carefully about furniture to fit the space. Thanks YouandMe for the concurrence!

Puzzle glad things are okay for you. I had been wondering where you were!

gnat yep, I am someone who has to shift furniture around a lot too... I do have a friend (a doctor - very practical lady) who once sat down with me and used squared paper to draw out a plan of my bedroom and all of my furniture, and then moved them around on paper until they looked good... Fantastic! I may have to try that with these two rooms as well!

I (clearly) also know what you mean, gnat, about being daunted by having to make space! It will be so worth it, though. What are you going to do about a study space? Or are you just not going to have one for the first year, and then time moving house with when you are ready to work again?

Oh, and thanks for the comment on the blanket! The pattern is the African Hexagon Flowers, and I'm following the Heidi Bears tutorial. I was inspired by the stunning Three Beans in a Pod version, which lists the link for the Heidi Bears hexagon tutorial, plus a half-hexagon tutorial for ends of rows, plus a joining tutorial. I would also recommend and her youtube tutorial, although I think she does the last coloured round slightly differently to the written pattern.

Thom when is your due date? Are you not buying till the start of July just in case something happens? I know you've had a worrisome pregnancy. I was kind of of this opinion too, until I realised that if something bad did happen, me not having baby stuff wouldn't make it any easier - for me, anyway. And about not thinking about the baby pulling books out - me too! I think there are a LOT of things I'm going to not have thought about!!! At least your big books will be hard for little fingers to move ;)

dats we could put a couple of boards up in the loft for storage, that is another good idea. We haven't got anything in the loft at the moment; it's just packed with insulation. And I wondered if anyone would recognise the Loop bag! Love that place. Can't afford to visit often...! Well done on the picture hanging - I am rubbish at that.

Cookies good idea on high-up shelving! I was thinking I could add that to the office-slash-guest-room all along that wall which currently has the pigeon holes. That could then quite a lot of the books and boxes that are in the 'nursery' at the moment. Ooo you guys are GREAT.

GoingLoopy thank you for passing on the sleep coach advice. As a clutter addict (as you can tell from my photos) I am going to have to work hard to keep that nursery a calm space - but with all the helpful suggestions on here I am sure I'll manage it. And yep, I have the uncomfortable bump thing. It was quite painful at work last week - baby had got himself into a position where he was really stretching my bump on one side and it actually felt sore every time he moved (which was a lot). When I got home I got on all fours and stayed there for a while - it gives the baby more room to wriggle round into a better position. I found that really helped.

Cripes, that was a long post. Sorry for the essay everyone!!!

goingloopy I totally agree about clutter in nurseries/bedrooms. I reduced it down to a simple white bookcase and chest of drawers etc. It's why I sacrificed a study into a playroom so all their stuff crap could stay in there. They then have small rooms of their own for their own space but a communal place for playing etc.

Also agree on painful bump! On a day out the other day I was in agony and hobbling round on a day out like I was 9 months! Good advice from bluebell that's what I did when I got home. Sometimes I just need to poo Blush

Thom80 · 10/04/2016 09:36

Bluebell - DH & I are both so paranoid after years of infertility & complications on my side. I am starting to feel better about things, but DH doesn't want to 'tempt fate'. I suspect he is not sure how I would cope if the house was full of baby stuff that needed to go back.
On a much lighter note, the sun is shining & I am off to accupuncture. We are thinking of having lunch afterwards.

FifiRebel · 10/04/2016 10:32

Indians you look fab Smile

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 10/04/2016 11:08

Thom with my first baby I bought everything I needed but stored it all at my mums house until I had the baby. I did the Mothercare payment plan and a lot of it was delivered to her all paid for about a month before the due date then when I had the baby she moved it all over to my flat while I was still in hospital.

Bluebell you will find a way to sort out the rooms. Yes good at space saving here. I hate clutter so everything has its place. Plus the house we just moved to ds1 has his own room but it's teeny. We got all new IKEA furniture for him and he loves it.

So in prep for holiday although not a major holiday I thought it was time I sorted out my body. I waxed for the first time in ages. Trust me it took a lot of strips to do my bikini line Grin. I had to do it looking in the mirror as I can't see past my bump. Then I scrubbed including my feet which are awful as I can't reach properly. Then I tanned. It took me a lot longer to tan than usual as there's a lot more to tan. I didn't enjoy seeing all my wobbly bits close up. Eek I've got to get in a swimming costume. Tonight I'm painting toe and finger nails. It feels nice to have made an effort.

27+2

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 10/04/2016 11:29

I get the sore bump too - if I am out and about and try to walk too briskly it feels like I get stitch! I also feel like sometimes baby is in a strange position and that it is not very comfortable. Bouncing on my bladder usually!

I can't remember now who recommended the NHS Squeezy app to help with pelvic floor exercises, but I'm so glad you did! It's really excellent and has encouraged me to be very diligent about doing them 3 times a day. I had a very strong pelvic floor before pregnancy (so my gynaecologist once grumpily told me anyway!) but I was definitely feeling concerned about it slacking off, and I'm noticing a difference since starting the exercises. It also seems to have helped a lot with the pain I was having in that area - it hasn't gone but it seems much improved. I suppose that could be coincidence though.

pulpi · 10/04/2016 13:25

Hello all! I fell right off the last thread and couldn't drag myself back on! It's not that it's been exceptionally busy, but my naps are now taking priority over any interneting. Not this weekend, though. We've nearly finished painting the nursery and it finally feels like we're getting ourselves together.

I feel like this pregnancy is flying past and it makes me a bit sad, to be honest. I'm still excited to meet this little one, but I think I'm really going to miss my bump. And I've never felt better than I do now that I'm pregnant. But then I feel I shouldn't say to much about it, especially to my neighbour and my cousins, all of whom are really struggling with their pregnancies at the moment.

But now, to go and paint the last bit of the second coat. And then a nap.

Cheery1 · 10/04/2016 15:10

Hi ladies!

Thanks Elizardo for starting new thread...3rd trimester blimey!

Bluebell - I totally understand the keeping of precious things from loved ones. I have Mum's things, and loads from my Gran and Grandad too. It is dawning on me that I will just have to let go of some of it. Big summoning of energy to go through it all and make space - not a task that can be done quickly or easily. Maybe we can spur each other on?! Sounds like you've got some good solutions already though Smile

I have a question for the second/third/fourth time mums. Is a Moses basket ok for new borns as their main bed? Then move onto cotbed at 6 months ish? We were looking at the snuzpod originally but there's so much to buy and I don't want to waste £150 on something unnecessary.....any thoughts very welcome.

Cheery1 · 10/04/2016 15:13

Hey pulpi lovely to hear from you. Ah naps....Smile

Cheery1 · 10/04/2016 15:15

Also superimpressed by your pelvic floor youandme and your lady garden upkeep beautician - I'm kinda in the mode of 'if I can't see it, I don't have to deal with it' - it'll be a shock in a few months no doubt!

Cheery1 · 10/04/2016 15:18

dats sounds like you were very productive in your PJs so give yourself a break! We've got pictures leaning against the wall in our bedroom that have been there for a month. I could put them up now but I've got a cup of tea, wifi and a chocolate biscuit so......

BelOfTheBall79 · 10/04/2016 15:52

Ladies. My parents have just moved in with us! They are moving up to be near us and their grandchild...but haven't found a place to live yet so today they arrived to stay with us until they find somewhere! I will stay sane. It will be worth it in the end when they can see their grandchild growing up! I will be lining up viewings for them for this week though!

I can sense the start of nesting for all of us as the births get a bit closer. In some ways it feels like there's no time left at all but in others I still feel 13 long weeks stretching out in front of me...

Hope all those sorting rooms, blankets, crochet and lady gardens get it all done!

Cheery1 · 10/04/2016 16:24

Lovely news Bel! I was really close to my Grandparents, it's such a special relationship. Delighted for you!

beckslovestimmy · 10/04/2016 17:35

Cheery the Moses basket is fine for as long as they fit in it, depending how big the basket it they may grow out of it before 6 months. My DD never really liked it though. We co slept for the first 5-6 weeks, tried the Moses basket but she just wouldn't really settle in it and then she was in her cotbed from about 7 weeks. Must admit that if she didn't settle quickly I just popped her in bed next to me after a feed. We were very lucky as she was sleeping through from about 14-16 weeks.

GoingLoopyQuickly · 10/04/2016 18:16

The moses basket was DS bed until the little monkey got too long and we moved him to his cot at 4/5months ish. I was introduced to swaddling after ds was about a month old and it made all the difference. It made him feel very secure and meant that although we co slept for naps I could get some decent sleep too without worrying about crushing him! I do still love co sleeping though and enjoy the occasions we do when we go away or after a nap etc.
