KayTee the measuring larger could be for a variety of reasons that might need checking out, not just because the baby is measuring larger than expected. It could be polyhdramnios (too much amniotic fluid) rather than the baby being too big. The only way to be certain is to do a scan. Even if your baby is bigger than expected, it would only be a problem if the growth wasn't following a centile line. None of these things could in any way be your fault. My DC1 was off the scale in length and head circumference when born, and at the top end for weight too. Just turned out to be a very tall child, nothing more or less than that - current height at 3.10 is 110cm which is bang on 50th centile for a 5 year old.

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 11/05/2016 12:24

Kaytee nothing wrong with a big baby. How tall are you and DH? My friend is 5ft 11 and her DH is 6ft. They didn't pick up on her ds being big at all and he was 11lb. Natural birth on gas and air no stitches. He was just very very long.

tams13 · 11/05/2016 12:51

Try not to worry Kaytee. Go along and see what they say after the scan. I was told on the 20 week scan that the baby's legs were very long. Not surprising when dh is 6'5"! I also know someone who was referred after the baby was born because she was small. The consultant laughed because both parents were really short too.

Ellizardo · 11/05/2016 13:11

hello!

agree about cot bedding. didn't use any apart from a cellular/cotton blanket and fitted sheet with waterproof sheet underneath. then grobags from 3 months on...

think bumpers only useful when babies start treating cot like a circus in their sleep and do roly-polys/backflips from 10 months on and you get worried about them banging their heads on the slats. (but I still don't use them with ted.)

my cankles are obscene. my birkenstocks didn't even fit last weekend, bah! beautician - your feet look lovely, i wish i could self-pedi but I'm so cack-handed my feet would look like a massacre if I tried.

kaytee - don't worry about size unless it's a medical thing like amniotic fluid etc. they told me ted's belly was 'off the charts' big at about 28 weeks and i tried to laugh it off as a little buddha thing but he was 'only' 8lb10 in the end and perfectly fine now. the guilt about his diet can start later, believe me! speaking of which, ted has found my lipstick so i better go

KayTee great advice here and I really wouldn't worry. Hope the midwife can give you a bit of insight.

dats · 11/05/2016 15:18

KayTee ditto what everyone else has said, it's very likely nothing, they always err on the side of caution and you have NOTHING to be ashamed of!!! All babies are to be celebrated, whatever their size - your body is doing exactly what it's meant to, be proud of it!

beautician your toenails! I contorted myself into doing mine the other night, nearly puked in the process - but they look well shit next to your glossy little numbers! I'll just walk fast so no one sees Wink

Elliz I could have written the first two paras of your last post. DD was an April baby but it wasn't cold and we did exactly the same, maybe with a bit of swaddling. And no cot bumpers or anything.

puzzle sorry about the kitten Sad

I am now on 3x sachets of Spatone following midwife appt last week. My already low-iron stores have bottomed out to below-ok levels (100, from 122 at booking) and she said I had to get them up or she'd make me take the horrid rusty red pills! But it's fine - expensive though! Tastes all right in orange juice. On the plus side, I 'passed' my pre-GTT, hooray!

I went to Asda this morning and bought some black wide leg jogger type trousers in about 4 sizes up. I am sick of being uncomfortable around the house and the ones I bought last time round are staticy Primarni ones that fee like they'll catch fire when I walk! And my thighs are already providing quite enough friction, thanks!

dats 30+3 (crikey, is that right??? Please make it slow down!!!)

AnnaT45 · 11/05/2016 18:07

Hey gorgeous girls! Hope you're all well?

kaytee please don't be upset. There is nothing wrong with big babies! We don't have much of a choice with it so no one would think anything if you! Hope the scab goes well though!

thom I hope the house stuff is better? It's just so unnecessarily stressful I find. We are still hoping to move early June but still waiting to exchange so goodness knows! I just want my date so I can get organised! Are you moving yourselves? I got some quotes and including packing everything it's around £700/800 which in the scheme of buying a house I thought was quite good! I don't fancy the hassle of moving when so pregnant so anything to ease it!!!

Re cot bumper we got a thing called air wrap it's safer but still stops them getting stuck in the bars. DD was a winter baby but I imagine this time around we won't need much for the first couple of months as it will be warmer!

I've totally lost track with everything going on as been so busy. Was bridesmaid at weekend, it was so lovely even though I couldn't enjoy the wine!!! Got a weekend off the weddings then another one the weekend after. I love them but they take up a whole day and night if precious relaxing time!!!

Got 28 week midwife tomorrow although I'm almost 29. I think she'll tell me the head is down as the pressure im getting is painful at time!!!

Hope you're all well and nearly another week gone!!!

KayTee87 · 11/05/2016 18:34

Thanks everyone I do feel better, I think I'm being overly sensitive due to the 'omg you're massive', 'you look like you're having a ten pounder', 'are you sure you're not having twins' comments that I've been receiving lately. I even had a taxi driver ask if I was due in 2 weeks Sadto which I replied no 4 as I was too embarrassed to say 10!!
I have had some nice, you look neat, you've not put weight on anywhere else or just a simple you look well but the 'huge' ones outweigh the nice ones.
When I'm not getting negative comments from people I'm actually very happy with my pregnant bump, I think it looks quite nice and I don't have any stretch marks yet which is a bonus so I just need to focus on how I feel Smile
Off to yoga now then will have a nice relaxing bath later.

29+5 (measuring 33 with a happy, active, loved, baby boy)

Cookiesandcoffee · 11/05/2016 21:17

kaytee you do have my sympathies as I was told this in both my previous pregnancies and sent for scans with both. When the Mw tried to plot my measurement on the chart it wasn't even in the box thingy. Did I have big children? No. Not that there's anything wrong with having larger ones AT ALL. Doesn't mean a thing! Mine were 7lb 15 and 8lb 3 but both incredibly long (very skinny looking) The scan will mostly rule out excessive fluid (can't remember the name, someone else posted it sorry I can't remember who)
Really hope you feel better about it soon. I did feel similar but now I've learnt it means bugger all. You're doing a great job growing a super new human in there!! I'm sure nothing untoward will come of the scan and hopefully bring you some reassurance

beautician my feet the last two days have rivalled yours for sure. Even letting out my Birkenstocks my feet were literally cut in half and can't wear them anymore! Or my converse. However, my chiropractor showed me an exercise to do to improve circulation and I've been doing them this evening and I do feel better. Can try and explain them in a post if you're interested

dats sorry to hear about your iron levels, hope they behave themselves. Hope your new trousers bring you lots of comfort and happiness. Can't put a price on comfort!

photographer great water drinking efforts, and glad they've paid off for you!

missing so sorry to hear about the kitten Sad

smalI really glad to hear that about your rash - long may it stay at bay! No don't worry with bedding! No need for bumpers or pillows. As others have said! Sheet and cellular blanket/Gro bag. I did use swaddlepods with dd2 but was winter and she was a snuggly baby. Dd1 was a summer baby and literally slept in a nappy (sometimes a vest) and no blanket (it was a hot summer, hot room, and she was a sweaty baby.

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 11/05/2016 21:50

Small you won't need cot bedding for a while as I presume baby will be in Moses basket. I put baby in the cot when they outgrow Moses. I always put a cot bumper on straight away as I think it looks nice. No other reason as you put a baby to sleep with their feet against the end of the cot so opposite end to bumper. Just a cellular blanket or sheet will be needed if it's hot. The quilts are very thick and I do use them tucked under the mattress so just one thin layer.

Photographer I've found the water is helping too. Wouldn't know about weight wise as no way I'm going near a scale.

Eliz treat yourself get someone else to do your pedi

Dats I don't bend when doing my toes so it's fine. I manage to bend my leg out to the side and bring my foot around if that makes sense. I'm strangely flexible. I even have weird bendy toes it freaks DH out lol.

Kaytee you do not have a big bump at all. Have you seen mine??? Plus bump size has absolutely no indication of the size of baby. People will always comment on bump size. Half the time they don't even mean it its just something to say. My mum is always telling me I'm huge and that the baby will be massive she has done with every single pregnancy.

Cookies I can't wear my converse now either.

Thank you for the water retention support they are much better now the heat has gone but it's meant to be hot again tomorrow.

Has anyone else found any good nursing vest tops? I'm trying to put together a small nursing wardrobe for after mostly strappy tops and jo jo have a nice nursing dress.

smallplainblonde · 11/05/2016 22:01

Thanks so much everyone for the advice on the bedding, I really appreciate it! Feeling a bit silly that I didn't think of these things Blush it's making me realise I have so much to learn about caring for a baby!!

Kaytee hope you feel better about things now. A lot of people have told me the measurements they give can be completely off. I bet you look lovely! I'm only a day behind u.

photographerlady · 12/05/2016 08:42

Morning all. Well hit leg cramp hell last night which is surprising because I had salty gammon last night and banana, which I thought was good for them. Woke up screaming and the DH didn't even flinch. I made the joke today that if I was in labour he wouldn't have woken up..heehee.

BeauticianNotMagician81 most of my nursing tops are from mamajobebes, but my secret vest and tank top shop is H&M. Their regular vest and tanks have a lot of give and they do longline styles. I have a stash of them that aren't maternity but fit find and last pregnancy were easy to wipe a boob out Grin

smallplainblonde we all bough loads of things we never used the first time round. I have to say I still love the bundle bedding sets on cuteness just never really used them. Thankfully they fit on her toddlerbed and getting some use. I never ended up using the bumper mainly out of fear that they get caught under them. Probably silly. I just packed down the cot and its going to live in the loft as the first 5 months LO will most likely sleep in the moses basket, crib or with me (I love a good night feed).

Thom80 · 12/05/2016 10:27

anna - I got incredibly stressed about the house sale yesterday and had a bit of a breakdown over the phone at work with my OH about it. I had my whooping cough injection and wasn't feeling great. My OH has said after yesterday he is going to deal with the bank and estate agents now, leaving me with the lawyer who is lovely. We are hoping to move at the end of May, let's see. I still don't feel well today and have taken the day off. I haven't phoned in sick throughout my IVF or pregnancy, I feel guilty being unwell given how nice they are to me about my endless hospital apts. I spoke to my boss, and he was lovely which has helped. I am going to rest in bed, not worry about the move and my mum is going to pop I for a cup of tea. I think she is worried as I nearly cried on the phone talking about it all, which is very unlike me!
cookiesandcoffee* - please send the exercises. My cankles are getting worse. My OH finds it hilarious. He says he has never seen anything like it before!!
smallplainblonde - I know nothing about babies at all, despite having nieces and nephews! I am pleased that you asked about bedding as I have been wondering myself. Can I ask a stupid question. Do the sleeveless vest go under the babygrows? I was thinking if they did I would go for white but if they didn't, I might opt for a pattern. Also, what sort of cardigans do you get for new borns? I still haven't bought anything. I have so far two babygrows from my MIL & a hat & leggings from my mum!! I have about £80 of M&S vouchers so going to get a few things there. I am borrowing a crib and a Moses basket so just need mattresses and bedding.
kaytee - I am utterly convinced that I am going to give birth to an elephant! My sister had small babies and I am little upset that mine is likely to be massive! I know it is irrational but I can't help it.

SpeakNoWords · 12/05/2016 10:35

thom sorry the house move is stressing you out. I hope a good rest will help. Sleeveless vests do go under a babygro/sleepsuit if it's cool enough to need both. But in the summer you may find a sleeveless vest is all they need. So I had some plain and some colourful for either purpose. I never really used cardigans, but I guess they'd be a useful extra layer. Knitted ones look cute I think!

Thom80 · 12/05/2016 11:01

soeaknowords - thank you, that is helpful and I will put both on my list. Did you not use cardigans because they aren't needed or because something else is better?

SpeakNoWords · 12/05/2016 11:09

It was a very hot summer that year, so I used a lot less layers than I was expecting to. Then by the time the weather was chillier I just used to use jumpers/tops over short sleeve/long sleeve vests. I find the fewer buttons or fasteners you're wrestling with whilst trying to dress a wriggly baby the better!

TheMissingPieceToMyPuzzle · 12/05/2016 11:59

Hit with the worst RLS Ive ever experienced last night, it was horrible!!

Also OHs cousin who was 2 weeks ahead of me was rushed to hospital yesterday after collapsing and having a fit, she ended up having 2 more all due to preeclampsia she didnt know she had it!! She had a headache that she couldnt shift, diarrhoea (sorry tmi) and feeling sick they did call L&D about this but they said she would be fine.. She had to have an emergency c-section and sedated, so she didnt even know she had the baby till they woke her up! So please if any of you have a headache you cant shift please ask to be checked over!! She was 33 weeks+2 days her baby boy is doing fine in NICU and shes in the general bit at the moment so not even close to her son yet Sad Im so scared now!!

Cookiesandcoffee · 12/05/2016 13:43

photographer leg cramps at night like that are the worst! You poor thing

thom so sorry to hear you are so stressed about the house, it's a lot to be worrying about at 7 months preg and you're handling it better than I would! Really glad DH and work are both being supportive and lightening the load for you. It's a lot to take on and you should definitely take it easy with a cup of tea.
With regards to vests I have bought a pack of plain and a pack of patterned - plain for going under baby grows and patterned if it's super hot. And a few footless babygrows and a few footed ones. Just because I feel the weather could be unpredictable. I haven't bought a cardi or similar in newborn but I do have a plain white one left from DD2 which I have in emergency if the temp plummets. M&S are great, I found their sizes to be generous last time if that helps

missing that sounds very traumatic! How horrible. Good advice! I found myself googling it only yesterday and heard of horror stories that women didn't know they had it. Must say it freaked me out and I'm usually level headed about these things. I hope she and baby are both doing ok.

beautician I'm also in the market for some nursing clothing. Not quite sure about it as was winter last time I Bf. I used to rely on layers/button down tops. And maybe a scarf. In the heat I'm not sure I can be so discrete?! Especially with my current F-cup situation?! And that's 'pre - milk' too! If you find any gems do share! I always hoped I could feed in my sling but never had any joys sadly

Has anyone ever bought/used one of those feeding blanket thingys? One that drapes over and you can peer inside? Are they any good? I just don't want to be overly frumpy and mumsy as I'm still trying (desperately ) to look young and trendy mostly failing.

SpeakNoWords · 12/05/2016 15:41

TheMissingPieceToMyPuzzle, that does sound very dramatic, I hope your OH's cousin is recovering well and gets to hold her baby soon. It is a fairly unusual occurrence I think (something like 5 in 1000 pregnancies), it would be very unlikely to happen to anyone else. I think the best advice is to never ignore a headache that won't go away, and in particular is accompanied by vision disturbance (floaters), and/or swollen hands/face. Because I've got pre-existing high blood pressure, I get asked about these symptoms at basically every appointment, but I guess they don't talk about it as much with low-risk pregnancies.

Cookiesandcoffee I did buy a nursing cover last time, but I really didn't get on with using it. It was so hot that another layer on top of clothes was torture, and it was another thing to have to try and fiddle with whilst getting to grips with breastfeeding. It made me feel really self-conscious. I swapped to just using a large muslin which you just tuck under your bra -strap and then you can use to cover yourself/baby as much or as little as you want to. I think I might buy some bright single colour muslins to use this time, as the ones from last time are a bit tired!

So, I had my 32 week consultant appointment today - had to wait an hour and a half from my appointment time as they were running very late for some reason! Then, I saw a registrar rather than my actual consultant. Very weirdly it turned out to be the same doctor who did my EMCS for DC1! He remembered my name which is quite impressive given that it was nearly 4 years ago. It was quite odd to sit having a chat with someone who the last time I met, was rummaging around in my uterus trying to drag DC1 out! It was nice to speak to him though, and tell him how DC1 is getting on. Thankfully there are no issues with this baby at the moment, and baby is head down, quite low, and not back-to-back. The registrar seemed to think it would be unlikely that the baby would move or turn from now, which is great. DC1 was never very well engaged, and was back-to-back as well.

32 + 2

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 12/05/2016 16:28

Cookies forgot to say definitely interested in the exercises for water retention please. I plan on getting a few light summery scarfs to BF under I think and possibly a load of nursing vest tops. I bought one from Jojo a secret support but it's a stretchy fabric and not very forgiving so I might try mothercares. I had a client that bought one of those feeding blanket things. She said it was awful made her really hot and sweaty. So she opted for scarfs instead.

Photographer thanks I'll have a look in h & m too.

Thom hope you are feeling better about the house now it will all work out. I had my whooping cough jab today. Last time I was fine but I've felt awful this time I really struggled on the school run I thought I was going to faint. Re vests for baby I have some white, some patterned and some sleeveless. It's likely to be hot when our babies arrive so you will probably find they won't need a babygro. I've only bought six newborn babygros mostly because the midwifes expect baby to leave hospital in vest and babygro. I would buy more rompers than babygros as that's what my two may babies spent all summer in. I got this one as a gift from m & s. Very unlikely that you will need cardigans.

Missing so sorry to hear about your
Ohs cousin. Please don't worry. That's definitely not the norm so highly unlikely to happen to you. Hugs.

I've reached another joyous pregnancy low today. I'm wearing a maxi dress and it's so hot my fat thighs have rubbed together. I've had to put sudocrem on. Where's my pregnancy glow damn it.

Hi everyone , you may remember me from the thread from the beginning (I've name changed from melvali) just wanted to let you know I got a BFP today! Totally unexpected as I had the miscarriage at 12 weeks in Jan following a hospital admission for urinary sepsis, and started trying in April and then only dtd a few times in May as I was a bit torn as there is lots going on at work. Wish me luck ..

Glad to hear you are all doing ok and getting near the end now. Must feel really good xxx

julfin · 12/05/2016 20:16

Melvali/CC, that's fantastic news! So so happy for you. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful news with us xoxo
