How are those of you with DC already and sickness coping? This is the first day I've had DS on my own since the extreme nausea kicked in and I'm struggling big time. I feel like a crap mum.

Ameilius · 31/03/2016 14:07

I've been lurking for a couple of weeks but feel it's time to admit to being here! Grin

I'm 8+4 so due on the 6th of Nov with DC2.. DS is only 10months (almost 11mths) so it was a bit of a shock to find out I was pg again! What kind of responisble adult is so bad at taking bc?! Blush Although it did mean I got to have an early scan to check the dates and it was lovely to see a heartbeat!

I've been feeling awful for the last couple of weeks. Throwing up about 3x a day and so tired and nauseous.. although it's actually better than last time when I was borderline HG, now I think I'm more just bad 'normal' morning sickness. Cake I've been feeling like an awful mum too, DS has been living off shop bought sandwiches for lunch as I can't face preparing food.. luckily DH and DM have been helping alot. DS is starting in nursery next week and I can't wait, he needs more simulation and fun than I can give him right now. Luckily I don't think babies really care that much, as long as they're fed and watered they'll be fine, we just have to get through the sickness.

Albus I live also abroad in a non-English speaking country and just follow the UK's rules about pregnancy - also about how to look after babies later on. You'll be fine either way but I just prefered to stick to the NHS recommendations.

Think I'll join the fb-group after 12wks but I'll try to keep up with this tread until then! Well as much as constant nausea and an active 10mth old will allow.. Smile

Flamingo16 · 31/03/2016 14:54

Goodness Cake and Ameilius, I think any of you who already have DC are supermums as no idea how you are coping with all these symptoms and looking after your family! I can barely look after myself at the moment let alone think of anyone else. Please don't feel bad as you're doing a great job.

I'm keen to get thoughts from those of you who are going on holiday or are abroad. I have a holiday booked with family the week after next and in two minds about it. I'm nervous about travelling abroad in the first trimester because of mc risk during this time, as well as the thought of flying when I'm so nauseous. I will talk to the midwife when I have my booking app next Fri but that's only two days before I'm supposed to fly and quite want to make a decision before then. Any advice?

AlbusPercival · 31/03/2016 14:58

I fly in two weeks flamingo

SPoke to midwife at booking in, she said it would be fine. Drink lots of water and move in cabin to prevent DVT and make sure travel insurance covers pregnancy complications

CakeAndChocolate · 31/03/2016 15:18

Flamingo, I'm just back from hols, I was gone from 5+5-7+3. We only went to Spain so not far in term of flight and fairly easy with food. I'm not keen on travelling during pregnancy either, although the rational part of me knows that other people do this all the time and nothing bad happens.
I am actually a high risk pg and high risk of dvt too, but midwife just said drink lots and move around during the flight and wear compression socks and should be fine (I also had a very low dose of Asprin prescribed, but that is due to my additional risk factors).
I think that really you need to think about your anxiety levels, it is supposed to be a relaxing holiday and if you won't relax because you are worrying about travel/food/miscarrying abroad etc then I wouldn't go. My mantra is always, if it will make you worry, then don't do it. I am particularly risk averse though!

Thurlow · 31/03/2016 15:19

I would just have a quick Google as well and make sure you know where the nearest hospital/health centre is and how to access the services as a tourist.

Ameilius · 31/03/2016 15:28

I agree with Thurlow, as long as you know where the nearest hospital is you should be fine. And obviously becareful about food and food prep. If probably depends on where you're going, if's it Europe then I'd still do it but I might feel differently about China or somewhere I'd never been before.

I've actually had 'morning' sickness on the plane and the worst part about it is that you can't kneel down and have the loo door closed properly Blush the light kept going on and off for me. If you recline your seat and have the fan on you it should help though..

Flamingo16 · 31/03/2016 16:03

Thanks for the advice, really helpful! I'm only going to Spain and staying with my parents who live there part of the year so aware of local medical facilities. I think you're right about it being down to anxiety - I definitely don't want a holiday full of worry!! Ameilius, your plane sickness story doesn't sound fun but shows it's possible to get through it! Thanks again for the advice.

Canters15 · 31/03/2016 16:21

Don't worry guys, its perfectly possible to profusely vom on a plane and all be OK Grin I get horribly travel sick every time I fly in economy only, my gut is a snob!

fuzzywuzzy · 31/03/2016 16:31

I'm quite envious of you all flying off on holiday. Hope you all have wonderful break away and a good dose of vitamin D.

About baby things, as my youngest DC is 11 & this will hopefully be DP's first baby, we're starting from scratch with everything.
I'm also too scared to actually buy anything but I am enjoying looking at baby stuff.

FuzzyOwl · 31/03/2016 16:36

Flamingo If you think you will be sick on the plane, I would advise to take some unscented nappy bags in case the loo is in use or you can't make it in time and some tissues and mints. I also find it helps to wear layers so that you can take off enough that you are cold, as that helps for me. I don't really get morning sickness but motion sickness is the bane of my life!

Jamjar12 · 31/03/2016 16:52

Have any of you had an early scan? DH was against it to start with as he thought it was a bit unnecessary and just me being impatient but our friend has just had hers today at 10 weeks and he's maybe considering it.

I'm in Kent, does anyone know of a place that might do it around here? If anyone's having or had one, how far were you and did you feel silly having it for no medical reason??

findingmyfeet12 · 31/03/2016 16:55

We had a scan at 7+4.

The hospital telephoned and offered it to us as I'd been under their care for IUIs previously.

I'm glad I had it but as someone pointed out earlier it's only a snapshot of that moment. I started worrying again as soon as I'd had it.

FuzzyOwl · 31/03/2016 16:58

I think lots of women have Jamjar and I had three private scans last pregnancy (although they were at 16, 27 and 32 weeks instead of early ones) and didn't feel at all silly for having them - and I guarantee you the people scanning you won't either. The best thing to do is to google pregnancy scans near you and various companies will come up. Prices seem to vary massively with some early scans being as cheap as £40 and others being around £100.

OP posts:
Fedupithink · 31/03/2016 17:41

I had one Jam at 6+3 last week on the NHS due to previous issues and mc. It stopped me worrying until last weekend and now I'm thinking how far away 12 weeks is!

I keep trying to remind myself that the stats are 78% likely to end in baby if heartbeat seen at 6 weeks so over 3/4 but I keep thinking "what about the other 22%?" I'm driving myself mad.

We haven't bought anything yet, this will be our first so need everything but not starting yet. Maybe buy a little something after the 12 week scan if all is well.

As for holidays, I'm off to Greece when I should be 15/16 weeks. Seemed like a fine idea but I'm already a little worried about washing food/picking up a bug/flight etc.

DuckWaddle · 31/03/2016 18:06

I'm just joining this thread after reading for a few days. Due nov 16th and certainly unsung the sickness a challenge with a 3 year old imp around! Has anyone got a bump? Mine is really pronounced but it took ages to get a bump in my last pregnancy. I'm worried it's twins?!!

DuckWaddle · 31/03/2016 18:07

Finding not unsung!!

findingmyfeet12 · 31/03/2016 18:12

78% doesn't seem high enough to offer much comfort to me. My sickness has almost gone. Next scan can't come soon enough.

MoreCakeMoreCake · 31/03/2016 18:27

Ooh jamjar I wonder if we live near each other?!

Feeling floopy today. Greasy hair and skin, bloated, painful boobs, gas from both ends, hungry / not hungry (it changes every minute!)

GP appt tomorrow so hoping to be referred for an early scan due to 2 MC last year. Trying to take each day as it comes but am only 5+5. Literally cannot imagine holding this baby in my arms in November!

FuzzyOwl · 31/03/2016 18:37

Welcome Duck. Twins would be exhausting, especially with another little one!

finding the stats are 98% at eight weeks, which you almost were so your likelihood of miscarriage has to be significantly lower than 22%.

Hope you do get referred MoreCake. Pregnancy is such a huge worry.

Thurlow · 31/03/2016 18:56

Oh god.

I just did a half faint - I shall try and reassure myself it was more of an elegant swoon - walking home in the middle of sodding Holborn at rush hour. And stumbled over and fell over properly, hands and knees and everything Blush I have no dignity left at all, and very little skin on my knee. There was no way it was elegant Blush Oh, I'm so embarrassed.

And now also shaky and light headed. Has anyone else had the fainting before? I've never had this before. I feel like an absolute tit.

likeawestern · 31/03/2016 19:03

Duck I got a bump much quicker with my second and even faster this time round. Twins would be exhausting!!

likeawestern · 31/03/2016 19:05

Oh Thurlow that sounds scary!! Hope you're feeling ok now. Think it's fairly common in early pregnancy but I'm sure someone will know for sure soon Thanks

DuckWaddle · 31/03/2016 19:06

When do you think your bump emerged likeawestern?
Thurl- poor you with fainting! Hope you're ok now. I haven't fainted yet but have had dizzy spells and had them in my 1st pregnancy too.
Oh the glamour of pregnancy!!

RaeSkywalker · 31/03/2016 19:12

Hope you're ok Thurlow! How awful for you. I nearly fainted in the shower yesterday, and today I felt like I might 'go' again leaving the doctors surgery. I think it's because I'm not eating much.

Just had booking in appointment- midwife was lovely. Won't offer us an early scan because there's "no medical need". I'm a bit disappointed as my GP thought I should have one because HG is often linked to twin pregnancies. I'm now not sure about having a private one either- it's £95 here and I don't think it would stop me worrying. On the other hand it would be lovely to know that a heartbeat had been seen to keep me going through feeling this poorly Sad
