Ouch Thurlow. Poor you! Dizziness and fainting is horribly common in early pregnancy. I hope you don't suffer anymore though.

finding another way to look at it is that you are more than 3 times as likely to end up with a baby than not. I think it sounds a bit more comforting that way!

I am also wondering about an early scan. Have looked on our hospital website, they have an early pregnancy unit that you can self-refer to, but only if you have been having severe pain or bleeding. Would feel bad about exaggerating the slight cramps I've been having on and off just to sneak in for a scan! Maybe will look into private options in the area, but knowing London I would expect it to be pricey...and at this stage I don't feel worried enough to justify it I don't think. Just want to prove that it actually exists and all is as it should be!

The sickness has hit me today Sad Kicked off with DH making me a slice of toast for breakfast with about half a jar of jam on it...normally I love jam (though probably not that much!) but it made me feel very bleurgh. Have been sipping water and munching ginger biscuits all day, and managed a cheese sandwich for lunch, but feeling distinctly queasy and heartburny throughout. Still, not as bad as it could be - Flowers for all you folks who are becoming intimately acquainted with your u-bend!

As for buying things, haven't started yet and will put it off as long as possible. My mum is v superstitious and probably won't let me have anything baby-related in the house (even though it's my house) until after the birth...so that could be interesting, logistically!

LemonShizzleCake · 31/03/2016 19:19

Oooh cross post with lots of people - Thurlow hope you feel better soon and your bruises (knees and ego!) heal quickly. I have form for falling over my own feet so I know how you feel, it's horrendous. Though I did once after too much wine fall literally flat on my face, split my lip, bruised my chin so badly I looked like I had a beard, and chipped my two front teeth. My poor DH took me to A&E and had to ask me on the way there to make sure I pointed out my grazed palms so they didn't think he'd smacked me in the face Blush

So, y'know. Could be worse!

Fedupithink · 31/03/2016 19:27

Sorry Finding didn't mean to worry you.

The next poster was right though it jumps to 98% at 8 weeks and 99.4% at 10 weeks. These stats are from the miscarriage association and the site says that for those of you without previous history of mc the stats may be even more positive.

Im trying to keep in mind that every day that passes is closer to 10 weeks. I'll be 8 weeks on Sunday so using that as a mini-milestone to work towards.

likeawestern · 31/03/2016 19:33

Rae that's a shame. Hope you find a cheaper early scan.

Duck I'm 7 +4 at the moment and there is a definite bump, still there when I lay down. Can't lay on my tummy anymore either. Dh has been telling me I have a bump since 6 weeks.

I don't think we'll buy anything till after 20 weeks. It all feels so fragile, I don't want to tempt fate.

Thurlow · 31/03/2016 19:42

lemon, I'm sorry, that made me laugh out loud! Thanks for cheering me up though. Sorry for anyone else who has it too, it was just horrible, like the world tilted sideways. I'm just more embarrassed as it was so public, loads of people came over to help, which was very lovely of them but mortifying - I just sort of bounced up and hurried off Blush

I'm sorry you won't get an early scan, Rae. We haven't gone for one this time, I've been trying to tell myself that it's not like it actually achieves anything, if you know what I mean?

RaeSkywalker · 31/03/2016 19:46

Thanks likeawestern. DH thinks I held it together too well in there!

I've got to go to the hospital tomorrow for bloods as she couldn't find a vein today. Not surprising really but another thing to deal with. I just have to look at a car at the moment and I feel very unwell- I've also lost half a stone this week and I'm a very 'normal' size (healthy BMI) usually- I'm a bit concerned but the midwife wasn't worried at this stage.

I was surprised when she said they could screen for Edward's and Patau syndrome at 12 weeks- apparently they only started offering it last month- it was offered at 20 weeks before.

CakeAndChocolate · 31/03/2016 19:48

Sorry about your fall Thurlow hope you're not too sore.

Is anyone else really thirsty? I just can't seem to quench my thirst and as a consequence I look like I did when I was 5 months pg with DS, I am ridiculously bloated. Have googled and US chat forums all say it is probably GD but UK chat forums (or mumsnet) say it's just a common early symptom. Don't recall having it before though. Any tips of what to drink to help? Water is making me gag (although it's the only thing I ever normally drink) so currently alternating squash and milk.

RaeSkywalker · 31/03/2016 19:48

Thurlow that's what I'm trying to do now. Seeing it won't change anything- if it's healthy it's healthy (and if it's twins it's twins!)

SophieVictoria1213 · 31/03/2016 19:51

Hello Everyone,
Would love to join you!
I'm 26, 9 weeks today and due date is 3rd Nov.. I think.
Getting tubby already (2nd pregnancy I already have 1 DS who is 2.5. Have resorted to stretchy yoga pants as it is my only item of clothing that fits. Good grief how has this happened already!!

I saw your discussion about ELCS. I'd like one myself as had awful time with my first and ended up with forceps followed by ELCM.
I didn't realise it was so difficult to be granted an ELCS after a traumatic delivery! Slightly anxious about it in general as, may seem silly, but I don't like the thought of staying in hosp and leaving my son at home for 2+ nights. I already think he'll feel put out when baby comes along. But I guess there's time to think about these things... Lots and lots of agonising time! Fingers crossed we all get what we want!
X

RaeSkywalker · 31/03/2016 20:00

Hi Sophie, welcome! I hope you get your ELCS.

Flamingo16 · 31/03/2016 20:14

Oh Thurlow how awful for you, especially in Holborn too, it's absolutely crazy there at rush hour! I hope you're feeling a bit better now.

Welcome Sophie!

Cake - I've had times when I've been so thirsty too but it seems to come and go. I've luckily been ok driving water but have found skimmed milk really good for quenching my thirst. I've also heard that freshly squeezed lemon in water is good for morning sickness so that might be worth a try?

Flamingo16 · 31/03/2016 20:15

Drinking not driving!

findingmyfeet12 · 31/03/2016 20:26

Thurlow I hope you're not too badly hurt. What a horrid thing to happen.

I didn't mean to be so negative about the mc rates. It's just that the 12wk scan seems so far away.

I'm feeling quite thirsty too and I've been keeping water in the fridge whereas I usually drink it at room temperature.

Jamjar12 · 31/03/2016 20:41

Thanks guys, I think I've persuaded DH to let me get a scan. We're going to ask the midwife at our 8 week appointment and then book for 9/10 weeks hopefully.

Hi Duck!
*
Morecake,* are you in Kent too? I'm in Medway to be more specific!! It would be awesome if you're nearby as we're about the same stage!

As for the bump, I had someone at work say to me today, you're definitely preggers after looking at my belly. I'm only 6 weeks but I'm definitely bloated enough to fake a bump lol. I'm so jealous of those of you with a nice little bump :)

goldfinch01 · 31/03/2016 20:52

I can't keep up with this thread at the moment!

Welcome ameileus, duck waddle and Sophie Smile

Thurlow hope your ok and not too shaken up. I'm a bit of a serial fainter so I can emphasise, it's awful when you feel yourself going and there's nothing you can do about it, especially when you're in a public place.

ChatEnOeuf · 31/03/2016 20:56

I'm really thirsty too. Probably a combination of early pregnancy nausea only being quashed by salty snacks and not drinking my usual 5-6 cups of tea every day! I'm trying to remember to drink lots throughout the day but work makes it tricky.

I've just got back from holiday, we were in Austria, skiing. One of those semi-impulsive 'I'm never going to get pregnant' moments that had the potential to invoke the law of sod. I didn't do much skiing, nausea hit and the morning sugar dip was pretty spectacular so I was very careful and spend a lot of time watching DD in ski school and lazing by the pool.

Thurlow I hope you're feeling a little better. I feel faint in early pregnancy quite frequently - I need to eat every couple of hours to try and stave it off. I have a low BP normally and it tends to drop in the first few weeks.

I'm not especially reassured by the statistics. I used to be, but when you've been the one in a million (or 240...or whatever the number is) it doesn't really matter a jot how likely it was, just that it happened. Or maybe that's just me :)

CakeAndChocolate · 31/03/2016 21:04

Chat I feel the same about stats. There is a less than 0.5% chance of a baby being stillborn, but it still happened to my DS. And in actual fact what caused it had a likelihood of 1 in 40,000. Like you say, it means nothing when you've been the 1.
Your holiday sounds lovely (minus the nausea!).

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 31/03/2016 21:07

Thurlow I hope you're feeling a bit better. What a horrid thing to happen.
It's our wedding anniversary today and we always have fish and chips (it's what we had for our wedding breakfast). Went down surprisingly well! 2nd year in a row I've been pregnant during it too! Grin

ChatEnOeuf · 31/03/2016 21:25

Spot on, Cake. Our DS was also stillborn, probably a 1:5000 event. Doesn't matter, he's still not here. Holiday was lovely, thanks - DD adored it too.

Canters15 · 31/03/2016 22:16

Flowers to chat and cake. I'm tearing up thinking of what a horrendous time the pair of you must have been through.

I'm also ridiculously thirsty. It must be a pregnancy thing! Can I also ask about cramps? Mine have got much worse over the last week or so to the point that they actually make me wince sometimes. Theyre very much intermittent and no bleeding or anything but am surprised they are as strong as they are. Does it sound normal?

FuzzyOwl · 31/03/2016 22:34

Welcome Sophie

I like to think that you have both been through such horrific times Cake and Chat that nothing else bad can happen. Sadly I know life doesn't work that way, but saying a little prayer for you two that this is your year.

I don't know mine make me wince Canters but certainly they have intermittent times when I think to myself that I have to be miscarrying instead of my muscles stretching. Then again, I have got to this stage of pregnancy a few times before so my muscles won't be as strong as yours are. I know I usually ask you and Chat for advice as you know more than I do but if in doubt, have a word with your midwife for reassurance. Round ligament pain definitely hurts and my app from last pregnancy shows it as severe on a few occasions whilst this pregnancy it has only ever been medium, so it sounds like everything is absolutely fine.

I have also gone through thirsty stages here as well and I quite like lemonade at the moment whereas I rarely drink fizzy drinks.

Does anyone else take Pregnacare? I stopped taking the conceive one before getting pregnant because it made me feel quite nauseous and really unkindly got my hopes up before AF arrives with alarming regularity but took it again early in this pregnancy before switching to folic acid. After seeing my midwife on Tuesday, who said to take it for vitamin d, I have felt slightly nauseous again. I took it for all of my last pregnancy and felt slightly nauseous throughout which I now suspect was due to Pregnacare and not pregnancy. On the plus side, this means I have convinced myself that I didn't have any symptoms last pregnancy in my first trimester either if Pregnacare caused what little nausea I did have and that has made me much more relaxed about things today.

fuzzywuzzy · 31/03/2016 22:41

Thurlow hope you're feeling better now, one of my first pregnancy symptoms was feeling dizzy, if I closed my eyes everything would feel like it was spinning. Felt like it today as well and I've been walking very carefully.

When I was expecting dd1, I actually fell down the escalator at Tottenham Court Road station, I used to walk down/up the escalators, that episode scared me enough to stop doing that immediately. Luckily I landed on my bum, scared everyone tho there was a collective gasp when I fell (felt incredibly embarrassed at my stupidity)

MoreCakeMoreCake · 31/03/2016 22:48

cake and chat I'm so sorry to hear about your DSs. What a terribly sad thing to go through. I can understand the extra worry throughout pregnancy and hope you have lots of support.

jamjar I grew up in Medway and am about 30 mins away now... EDD 26 Nov

RaeSkywalker · 31/03/2016 23:06

cake and chat I'm so sorry about your losses.

Fuzzy I took Pregnacare Conception, then Pregnacare. When I saw the GP she said that the Pregnacare could be adding to my sickness (lots of iron can do this apparently), so suggested just taking folic acid. The Midwife today asked me to start Pregnacare again but I'm not really happy to do that. I'm just going to take folic acid and a vitamin D tablet until the HG hopefully wears off.
