almond I also got a letter about having a smear test at the start of this pregnancy and decided to wait until after I give birth.

I had a letter and the midwife said they don't do smears during pregnancy! Lucky escape haha. Aside from all the other stuff that's got to happen down there... Both incoming and outgoing... Confused

pickledsausage · 14/04/2016 10:40

That's reassuring, thanks littlegrey I'm just laying in bed and trying not to move once I get in a ok position! Feel so bad having a day off for a headache!

thanks newshoes, I made myself a bit of toast with peanut butter earlier as was starving but will get a biscuit now :) have avoided all pain killers. If I still have it tomorrow I'll give GP a visit.

x

almondbutter · 14/04/2016 10:44

pickled, I have been using VapoRub on my temples/forehead when I have been headachey. From the sounds of yours it wouldn't do more than take the edge off, but in case helpful. Feel better x

StarkyTheDirewolf · 14/04/2016 11:07

almond that's an excellent idea!

I've just been tanking water today thinking I was suffering yesterday because I got dehydrated.

Hope everyone struggling starts to feel better soon Flowers

BeedlesPineNeedles · 14/04/2016 11:13

I'm also due a smear but I coudn't get it booked in before ET and didn't want to have it done after. My mw said there was no problem having it done whilst I was pregnant and there was no danger. But she said it was also ok to wait until after I'd given birth if we wanted to avoid any extra poking around Me and DP both felt even if there is no risk with having it done we'd rather wait.

You look after yourself pickled you certainly sound ill enough to be off work to me.

almondbutter · 14/04/2016 12:00

Got booking in appt tomorrow and mw just called ahead (I had some questions on paperwork). She sounds LOVELY, am really pleased and looking forward to meeting her. Hopefully she'll be there come the day too. I am a huge One Born Every Minute fan so have a very set image in my head of what I'd like my mw to be like and have been sad to see how many MNers have had bad experiences during labour with theirs.

Thurlow · 14/04/2016 12:31

Hope you feel a bit better soon, pickled

almond, I think the difficulty is how subjective a bad labour is for an individual. I had what on paper would be a bad labour (long, EMCS, baby rushed to NICU) and while it has left me knowing I will not contemplate anything other than an ELCS for this baby - it actually wasn't bad, it's not as if I look back on it thinking Jesus, that was hideous. Plus I think people only really talk a lot about bad things on MN, so it's easy to get a skewed view.

I just had to lead a training session and caught sight of myself afterwards and blimey, I do not look good - horrible tummy stage where I just look like I'm wearing really unflattering clothes Sad

AlbusPercival · 14/04/2016 12:37

Its funny Thurlow, i just caught sight of myself in the mirror in the lift and thought the same!

Was also stuck in there with someone coming back from smoking shelter, god cigarettes smell awful!

Thurlow · 14/04/2016 12:55

Ha! Mine was the mirror in the lift too!

Cigarettes do indeed smell awful, but... , I could really have one right now Blush

StarkyTheDirewolf · 14/04/2016 12:57

almond I met our community midwife yesterday and she was ace mad and irish the first thing she said was "aah you've brought Dad with you so it's probably not the milkmans then! Excellent!" But she was absolutely excellent, talked me through everything, showed me a bit of hypobirthing because I got briefly worked up, was open to the idea of me home birthing. Couldn't fault her at all! Really calmed me down! And everything you'd expect a midwife to be, she's been delivering babies longer than I've been alive! Grin

likeawestern · 14/04/2016 13:15

Hi everyone. Think I've just about caught up - I ended up having 14 migraines over 4 days and the after head has been a nightmare!

fuzzyowl and needanewjob I'm the same on fizzy fruity things - appletise is my fav atm. Normally avoid fizzy.

Amelius sounds like you need a new GP.

Morecake good luck for your scan!

My hair has gone curly but frizzy curly not nice curly.

Albus how kind of her!! I've caught a couple of mums staring at my tummy in the playground. Baggy tops and scarves it is!!

MoreCakeMoreCake · 14/04/2016 13:52

Thanks western - had our scan this morning at 7+5 and saw the little bean wriggling away with a nice strong heartbeat. DH and I both shed a little tear!
Feel so much better about things now and feel like I can start to (tentatively!) relax a little bit.
Sonographer was lovely and said that the chances of anything going wrong now are much much lower. So, fingers and toes crossed for the next 33 weeks!!

coppergrey · 14/04/2016 14:13

So pleased to hear that, MoreCake! I have a scan on Monday, really excited/nervous for it. Hope the outcome is similar!

I am really, really struggling today. Didn't sleep well last night so today I'm just totally shattered. I have a meeting at 4.30 and I'm dreading it. And going away at the weekend, kinda dreading that too as I won't be able to get away with my current levels of inactivity! :(

fuzzywuzzy · 14/04/2016 15:09

More cake that's wonderful to hear. Now for a relaxed and happy pregnancy.

Copper can you not laze around when you go away it's what breaks are for, no?

I need to desperately buy bigger jeans and leggings, I'm currently sitting in with my trousers completely unzipped as I'm bursting out of my jeans! Luckily I have on a long shapeless top. I had to change twice this morning, first time I put on a dress and I look very clearly pregnant in it.
Dp suggested I looked 'wel fed' I suggested he stop talking to preserve his life... it's lies when they say the first trimester doesn't change your body shape much.

Also excruciatingly tired here as well.

coppergrey · 14/04/2016 15:26

It's an outdoorsy weekend, fuzzyw - lots of walking and BBQing and general socialising which I am very bad at right now!

Could you try those button extender things for your jeans? Although, long, shapeless tops are my life right now. I think for me it's more bloating than anything else. Today I'm wearing dungarees and think it's so obvious but they're so comfortable, I don't really care!

almondbutter · 14/04/2016 16:14

Thurlow thanks, that's really good to hear. And yes, you're so right that few people talk about straightforward uncomplicated birth experiences on here, I guess mostly because what's to say? Pleased you seem able to be constructive about what happened to you last time.

Starky hooray, she sounds great. Can't wait for booking appt now.

onthemetro · 14/04/2016 16:28

Totally sympathise with those looking pregnant - I had a complete meltdown this morning because almost nothing I own fits me anymore! I didn't think that'd happen quite so soon. Luckily I wear a uniform to work which still fits (although for how much longer I don't know!) and on my days off I'm in slobbish old workout clothes hoping that if anyone sees me outside they'll just think I'm off for a run or something.

DP said he's taking me shopping on Saturday to buy me new clothes, think I worried him a bit this morning!

I've been sleeping loads recently, like 13 hours a night then 3 hours or so when I get home from work. I've never known exhaustion like this! It's my day off today and I just slept for 4 hours, what a waste of the day!

I picked up What To Expect When You're Expecting for £1 in a charity shop the other day and I definitely recommend it, it's so informative and written in a really accessible way. Not looking forward to getting to the birth bit though in denial

fuzzywuzzy · 14/04/2016 16:36

Copper is there any way you could bow out of the lots of walking bit?

We've got a work away day coming up next month and I've told one person at work I'm pregnant, previously I've had several early miscarriages and she dealt with it really brilliantly, on Tuesday she took me aside and said we're going to be walking a lot that day, there's a treasure hunt type activity, do you think you will be able to do it? Having remembered last years activity when I was falling over with exhaustion I told her I didn't think I could. I've now got that afternoon off work without it eating into my annual leave woohoo.

Metro I'm buying maternity jeans and leggings on pay day. I've really had enough wearing jeans that I can't do up & leggings that are too tight and the seams dig in.

fuzzywuzzy · 14/04/2016 16:38

Copper I have weird jeans with no buttons just a side zip, they used to be really comfy. But I can't use extenders with them unfortunately

MoreCakeMoreCake · 14/04/2016 16:41

Agree with thurlow that women who've experienced loss, birth trauma and so on are more likely to come to Mumsnet and other sites for support and advice. It's brilliant but I think does skew things a bit as we're more likely to hear the sad stories.

I've got my maternity jeans out of the loft and by some miracle they still fit! Going to be in them soon - no bump but I'm so bloated and uncomfortable. Fashion be damned, it's stretchy waistbands and sensible shoes all the way!

Spottyladybird · 14/04/2016 16:49

Thinking about getting maternity clothes out of the loft. Had to hold jeans together with a hairband last weekend!!

almondbutter · 14/04/2016 17:06

For the first time in some time am feeling pleased that I'm not especially slim (not fat but definitely curvy) and have a bit of a belly. Combined with being tall, I am hoping I'll get away with people thinking I've had a big lunch for a little while. All clothes still fitting other than bras and some pairs of shoes; my mum gained a shoe size with me and am really hoping I don't get the same because that'd take me to a 9.

RuskBaby · 14/04/2016 17:13

Is anyone else super emotional? I well up at the silliest of things at the moment and cry so easily. Today I had to tell my supervisor I had an appointment on Tuesday for which I would likely be gone 3 hours, when she was nice I told her I was pregnant as I am really bad at lying and promptly cried and had a nosebleed. Was not planning on telling work until after my 12 week scan but she promised she wouldn't tell anyone else.

Ameilius · 14/04/2016 17:48

copper we'll be scan buddies, I've got mine on Monday - although with my awful memory at the moment I've not got a clue when...

I'm already in the maternity leggings, they're SO comfy! I also ordered some maternity clothes from ASOS and they were all huge. I hate the fact that I just look fat and nothing really fits, bring on proper bumps and embracing the loose tops!
