Thank you for all the good wishes... Just come out of scan, all fine with a strong heartbeat and measuring exactly 7weeks as expected. I'm so relieved as I was beginning to think I'd imagined the whole thing!

I had to have an internal scan as my uterus was facing backwards. There was great merriment when they realised they had run out of probe covers and had to send the receptionist to tesco express to buy some condoms to use instead!

I did mention my lack of symptoms and she didn't seem worried, she said everyone is different and some people feel fine, or get ms later around 9 weeks. She said she saw a lot of people who had got themselves worried by googling/comparing symptoms they thought they should have, when they didn't need to be as everyone is different.

Bobcat very good news for you too!

Jamjar12 · 06/04/2016 13:00

Great news! Glad all is ok! Lol to the condom emergency! How funny and ridiculous haha. Was it just because of your uterus facing backwards you had to have the internal or is that quite common for 7 week scans? I'd rather not have an internal one quite yet but then I guess it's worth it to hear a heartbeat!

goldfinch01 · 06/04/2016 13:09

It was just because of my uterus facing backwards apparently, she said occasionally she needs to do an internal scan before 8 weeks but not normally. She tried a normal external scan first, and could see the sac but nothing in it- I was panicking a bit at this point (especially as I then had to wait a few minutes for the condoms!). She then did the internal scan and saw the yolk sac/baby/heartbeat, which was all fine and had just been tilted the other way so not visible before.

goldfinch01 · 06/04/2016 13:12

Also forgot to say the internal scan was fine, it wasn't painful or uncomfortable at all, and nowhere near as bad as a smear test!

MoreCakeMoreCake · 06/04/2016 13:24

finding I have the exact opposite problem.....! Best friends with my bathroom this week Confused

BeedlesPineNeedles · 06/04/2016 13:33

great news goldfinch but it must have been a bit stressful waiting for the condoms to arrive. My first clinic just used to use latex gloves over the probe, but maybe if they always use condoms proper covers that didn't occur to them.

jam internal scans really aren't painful, maybe slightly embarrassing the first time but definitely nothing to worry about. Its not actually as big as something you might find in Ann Summers, the tip is maybe the same girth as a man's thumb and the shaft is a bit narrower. Approximately anyway, I've had loads (snigger) but not really examined them that closely!

Jamjar12 · 06/04/2016 13:40

Thanks for the reassurance- I need to get used to that sort of thing at some point anyway! I won't be panicking so much on Monday now, thanks :) Can't imagine how you felt waiting for the internal if they couldn't hear a heartbeat before. A story to tell the grandkids?!

BeedlesPineNeedles · 06/04/2016 13:42

Oh and jam if you have an early abdominal scan they might want you to have a full bladder - which they will then press down on to get a good view. Personally given a choice between waiting nervously when they're running late with a full bladder or having an internal scan after weeing as much as I want, I'd choose the internal!

MoreCakeMoreCake · 06/04/2016 13:46

jamjar I think internal scans are a bit like someone sticking their finger up your nose and moving it around. Annoying and a bit uncomfortable but not painful.

I've always worn a long skirt rather than trousers for the scan - can then keep it on and hitch it up. Obvs personal preference but I feel a bit more covered up that way! They will always give you a towel or at least a massive bit of kitchen roll type stuff to put over your lap. Good luck and try not to worry, it's not so bad.

FuzzyOwl · 06/04/2016 14:58

Glad all went well goldfinch. My uterus also tilts backwards and apart from internal scans early on and mutterings during an external scan at 12 weeks it has never caused an problem in pregnancy.

goldfinch01 · 06/04/2016 15:37

Thanks Fuzzy, that's good to know it's not cause for concern, I was wondering but didn't get a chance to ask.

Spottyladybird · 06/04/2016 16:02

I had to have an internal at 6 weeks and it was fine. Gigantic probe that looks like a dildo with a condom on but only a small bit actually goes in.

bobcat85 · 06/04/2016 16:03

I've always find internal scans fine Jamjar, not at all painful or anything. I think I actually prefer them to having an external scan due to the horribleness of having a full bladder.

Glad to hear all went well Goldfinch :)

FuzzyOwl · 06/04/2016 16:25

The baby's weight means your uterus will tilt the right way soon after your 12 week scan goldfinch.

Fedupithink · 06/04/2016 18:53

Yay to Goldfinch and Bobcat such positive news!

I'm currently sat on the floor of my train home as there are no seats and I don't feel I'm pregnant "enough" to ask someone to move. I'm feeling really ropey and tired today, not sure how I will manage another full London day tomorrow but trying to look forward to Friday as im WFH and can just lay on the sofa all day.

Jamjar12 · 06/04/2016 19:11

Haha, there's no delicate way to say I can handle a small dildo!

I can't shake the thought this is all unreal and maybe I'm just imagining it. Spent a long time today googling missed miscarriages and freaking myself out. What if I'm being a right flake and thinking I'm tired and nauseous from pregnancy but it's actually just all in my head? I think it's pretty wrong you have to wait until 8 weeks to see anyone to talk about it. There should be more support available through either the midwives, nurses or the GP before then!

Aww fed up, sorry you're having to sit on the floor! Won't be too long before you'll just be glaring at people to give you their seats!

coppergrey · 06/04/2016 19:24

So sorry you had to sit on the floor, fedup! I know what you mean about not looking pregnant 'enough', I'd feel uncomfortable asking, too.

Jamjar, I'm also freaking out about missed miscarriages today. Yesterday I felt so nauseous and tired but today I feel pretty ok. I did exercise this morning so not sure if that helps with symptoms but I can't help panicking! Sad

findingmyfeet12 · 06/04/2016 19:26

Fedup you should take a look at that thread about the lady who was asked to move her son so a man with a disability could have a seat on the bus. it's all kicking off on that thread. You'll be able to find plenty of tips on how to get a seat!

Ameilius · 06/04/2016 19:31

Yay for scans and heartbeats! I lost all sense of shame after pregnancy - it almost feels strange not to have to semi-strip at the drs now.. (well I guess I do again now). I agree with you bob I would pick an internal scan over a tummy scan, I find they press so hard it hurts plus lying on my back in later pregnacy made me very dizzy last time.

fedup you should just say something! I think it's a bit mean we're meant to soldier on when we feel worst and then only get to tell people once we're feeling better again! Most people at work know about me I think and my boss was on of the first people I told, I need leniency/understanding now and if anything did happen then I'd want support from friends.

findingmyfeet12 · 06/04/2016 19:37

Ameilius I'm the same. After two cycles of iui and one abandoned cycle I've lost all shame in that regard too. I'm now bare arsed and up in those stirrups before you can say "It's just a consultation today madam".

Ameilius · 06/04/2016 19:40

findingmydeet I don't know how to do the laughing-so-hard-you're-crying smiley on mn so I will just awkwardly explain it instead. That is me now.

LemonShizzleCake · 06/04/2016 20:03

Have been away for a few days and just read through about 5 pages to catch up!

Welcome to lots of newcomers! And congratulations Flowers

"Dildocam" made me snort, Beedles Grin and Ameilius I'm totally with you, crying laughing at finding bare arsed in the stirrups for her consultation

I am the same though, have had so many different medical professionals poking my bits over the years (and on one memorable occasion was allowed to watch my colposcopy live on a huge TV screen...) that I don't really give a monkeys any more. Possibly the best one was when I had an insanely hot male doctor and needed a smear, and he had to go and get Deirdre from reception to stand on the other side of the curtain as a chaperone. Me, naked from the waist down, on the bench behind the curtain. Doc knocks on the door and re-enters the room, "I've got Deirdre with me..." Of course I breezily called out, "Hi Deirdre!", and just got a slightly nervous "Err...hello...!" in reply. She was definitely more embarrassed than I was Wink

Hoping the tiredness and sickness starts to let up for us all soon...and the worrying... Sad Congrats to all who have had scans and seen that everything is going well, great news!

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 06/04/2016 20:30

Having a good giggle at this thread tonight! You do lose all dignity in pregnancy/childbirth though. I had 5 internal examinations by 5 midwives in the 17 hours before my DD was born, and I couldn't have cared less! I also planned to give birth in a nightie but by the time I got to hospital only had seconds between contractions so couldn't get changed. Ended up in pants and vest, then my waters went so off came the pants. So I just wandered the room with my butt out!! And I'm the kind of woman who doesn't even walk round the swimming pool changing room without a towel round me!

Twinklelittlestar1 · 06/04/2016 20:52

Hi all, these posts made me chuckle!

I've been feeling a bit better today. I got some of those acupressure bands for motion sickness and I think they are helping. I had a telephone chat with the doctor about the nausea and he suggested dry crackers before getting out of bed. I thought it sounded a bit odd but tried it anyway. I usually feel sick as soon as I wake but the crackers and/ or the bands seemed to work. Don't want to count my chickens but I'll see what tomorrow brings.

FuzzyOwl · 06/04/2016 20:59

Hope you are home now Fedup and sitting somewhere much more comfortable. I agree that it is really unfair that we often don't feel we can ask for seats/help in the first trimester when we are generally feeling at our worst.

Jam and copper I know I can't listen to my own advice but try to step away from google when you are worried about something, especially in pregnancy.

Really hope that combination works for you Twinkle.

I feel quite yucky today but suspect it is my antibiotics and not morning sickness. Antibiotics do tend to make me feel horrid and sometimes cause me to vomit, so it seems a bit coincidental that my first lot of sickness happens when I start them. Have only managed one wobble today and have otherwise remained fairly positive. Hope everyone has had a good day. Smile
