Thought I'd bump this. I'm a relative newcomer to Leeds (been here just under 2 years) and don't know that many people. I'm due on June 10th and would love to meet other mums/find out where the good M&T groups are. I also have a DS who is nearly 5.

betsycoe · 14/05/2007 13:43

Hi eveyone,
I'm in the Leeds area. Due on the 2nd of October with baby number 1.

What part of Leeds are you all in? I know some groups in the north Leeds area but not sure if these will be close enough for you daisy?

valentinesfeat · 16/05/2007 15:23

Forgive me crashng, but have just signed up. Due in November with No1 and hoping to converse with ladies in a similar situation to share my all consuming terror with!

DaisysGotABigBump · 16/05/2007 19:02

Sorry Betsycoe for not seeing this earlier (and for brief name change). I'm sort of Meanwood/Moortown area so North Leeds is fine....anything from Moortown/Alwoodley/Meanwood/Headingly would do really.

Valentinesfeat....have you found the November ante-natal thread . A friend of mine who lives in N Leeds is on there and there's one other lady I know of from Leeds as well

littleoldme · 16/05/2007 20:57

I'll join in too. I'm due in November. I live in Moortown unlike a certain person who definately lives in Meanwood.
Betsycoe it's my first too. 12 week scan tomoz.

Ooooh how lovely I never noticed this thread before!

I think i am the 'other lady' Daisy mentioned from the November ante-natal group

I'm in Moortown too, due in November, same as littleoldme and Valentines. I have a 2 year old DS running me ragged.

I only moved here 4 months ago so still getting to know the area. Do love it already though.

Which hospital have you all gone for? I made a spur of the moment choice for Jimmy's when midwife asked me but it was based on no research whatsoever...

littleoldme · 17/05/2007 11:56

Choudru - I was going to direct to this thread today - Leeds seems to be a particularly fertile place at the mo. I'm going to Jimmy's too. I don't think there's much in it to be honest but the advantage is you don't have to wrestle your way through town if you need to get there in a hurry. You were the person daisy was referring to; she's a friend of mine and I mentioned you. Small world this internet place.

Where does everyone live?

Justabout - good luck with the move. Where are you coming from. I've lived here for nearly eight years now and I love it.

Valentines - I too am becoming slightly alarmed.

littleoldme · 17/05/2007 11:59

That'll teach me to try and correct stuff after I've posted a message. Pregnant brain. Off to eat oily fish.

choudru · 17/05/2007 12:55

Leeds certainly is a fertile place it seems!

I'm so jealous of you enjoying ice cream, I can't seem to tolerate it at the moment. Anything milky seems to make me feel queasy

We should arrange a Leeds meet up soon.

DaisysGotABigBump · 17/05/2007 13:11

The internet is a village .....well mumsnet certainly seems to be! What's with all the November babies anyway.....it must have been particularly cold and miserable in February around here!!

betsycoe · 17/05/2007 13:36

Wow, I forgot about this thread for a few days and now there are loads of messages.

I live in Wetherby so just down the road from Daisy and Choudru!

I'm planning a home birth with the back up of Harrogate hospital if there are any problems.

No personal experience of Jimmis (appart from the fact that I was born there). That was years ago so I'm sure things have changed since then!! My sister is planning to have her baby at the LGI in a few weeks time so I'll be able to get her feedback after that.

Hope the scan went well Little. I've got a 21 week scan next Tuesday and I'm just debating if we're finding out the sex. I was sure that I didn't want to know but I'm weakening!!

DaisysGotABigBump · 17/05/2007 14:06

Btsy...I've heard mixed revies of both hospitals to be honest, but as I was already under the care of a consultant for coeliac disease at Jimmys it made sense to stay there. I've had some dealings with the EPU and the Maternity Assessment unit though and everyone seems lovely that I've dealt with so far. I saw my consultant yesterday to arrange a date for an elective C-Section as well and she talked me through it all really thoroughly, so I've been impressed so far.

There was a thread the other week about Leeds hopitals and the main criticism seemed to be cleanliness, especially the showers, but I think this is just typical of post-natal wards really. I had my DS in Edinburgh in a hospital that had only been open for three weeks and the toilets/showers there were pretty yucky already as well...kind of goes with the territory I think. The answer I believe is take a pair of cheap flipflops for wearing in the shower!

A MN mother and baby club would be a great idea....

DaisysGotABigBump · 17/05/2007 14:06

LOL at my spelling....water retention of the fingers makes for lousy typing skills....

betsycoe · 17/05/2007 17:00

A MN club sounds like a great idea. I'm already worrying about how I'm going to fill my days when I'm on leave (though I'm sure the baby will keep my quite busy).

I was signed off work this week with a kidney infection but ended up going back yesterday as I was climbing the walls at home! Day time TV and putting your feet up isn't what it's cracked up to be!

DaisysGotABigBump · 17/05/2007 18:14

LOL Betsycoe.....appreciate it whilst it lasts.....

choudru · 17/05/2007 18:25

Will remember the tip about getting cheap flip flops. I think ante-natal wards are in a bit of a state nationwide but from what I gather, the ones up north are better than those in London.

The London hospital where I had DS was a nightmare - staff too busy to give you 5 mins, dirty loos, dirty wards, dirty showers.

Very impersonal - I left 2 days after having emergency CS because I hated it so much.

Am banking on the fact that this time around can't possibly be as bad.

Daytime TV is one of those things that is only fun if you are skiving...

DaisysGotABigBump · 17/05/2007 18:30

Jimmy's doesn't seem that bad to me, but then again I'm a domestic slut so I suppose it depends on your day to day standards
My mum was in there recently, same building as maternity, albeit a different ward, and they only did a "deep clean" of the wards once a week, which I was a bit at, but maybe that's standard for all hospitals, I don't know?

littleoldme · 17/05/2007 18:37

I love the idea of an MN club. I'm trying not to think too much about hospitals. I'll be going however clean or whatever is.

I work part time and have spent my days off this week feeling pants. Daytime TV id depressing so I rented a box set of House. Problem solved.

betsycoe · 18/05/2007 08:30

The next time I'm off I'm going to take the plug off the TV. I think it was Jeremy Kyle and the endless adverts for debt consolidation companies that pushed me over the edge!!

If I see that loan advert with the smug bloke on a sit on lawnmower (with the lemonade serving wife) I swear I won't be responsible for my actions.
