I couldn't post on last thread so hope everyone finds this one!

Great pic annaB and what a lucky girl having four big brothers! I always wanted a big brother and not just because I imagined he'd have cute friends

AnnaR hope you're feeling better now. And glad everyone else seems to be doing ok. I turned 17 weeks a couple of days ago and so so so thankful that I'm eventually feeling much better! Absolutely wiped out by the end of the day but able to eat more now so I think energy will be back soon Smile

DH is off today, yay! Family coming for lunch and the sun is out...happy days

I don't remember having a HV visit last time, and not received a letter yet this time so wonder if it's area specific?

Women I also have several vac packs in the loft but I can't fit up there anymore and DH too big to fit through the hatch! I'll be sending my DM up there to rummage around!!!

Womenareliketeabags · 05/08/2016 07:19

Aceberry I'm planning on having a home birth. I'm both nervous about it and excited. Have you hired a pool? I'm still not sure what to do about getting on or if I even want one or whether it'll be too much faff.

Custard I'm waiting for DH to go and get the stuff as I'm not able at this rate I'll be waiting til I'm dead I now first mentioned it about 4 weeks ago. Looks like I'll have to. 'nag' to get it done. Angry

0hCrepe · 05/08/2016 10:01

Well I had the visit which was just like a normal one but at home so urine, bp, measurements, heartbeat etc. But she measured me on my bed so saw our room (cot not in there yet) and later said she could see there was enough room in there for a cot and that was it really with regards to safeguarding. She did talk about safe sleeping and a bit about birth plan too.

Annarose2014 · 05/08/2016 10:41

We dont have advance visits here. However we do have a thing where if you are discharged within 24 hrs of admission you get MW home visits for 4 days afterwards. That was amazing last time and I got way more attention than if I had had to stay in hospital, ironically, as they stay for up to an hour chatting. So I'd love that to happen again.

DH is going to start pulling down stuff from the attic today. I'm actually the nervous one who keeps saying its too early! That we'll jinx it! I seem to be more nervous as the date approaches, not less, and keep counting kicks in a blind fear they'll go quiet. Worrying myself silly. Particularly as the baby is typically fairly quiet until evening so I worry all day.

He erected the travel cot in the kitchen. It has a changing table attachment on top - handiest thing ever as no bending over, and bassinet level which great for naps obvs. But that makes me so nervous too!

Aceberry · 05/08/2016 15:30

woman this will be my 3rd home birth. My other 2 were lovely, so I'm hoping for exactly the same - but who knows?! I don't really fancy a water birth so I've never opted for one. But they are also supposed to be a great experience

Womenareliketeabags · 05/08/2016 15:38

Aceberry my last labour was an induced 40+ hour nightmare ending in an episiotomy and forceps delivery. I want this one to be the exact opposite. Is there any essentials I need ready for a home birth? Like lots of towels!?!? I have no idea. Any advice or tips please. Smile

Bobbycatz · 07/08/2016 12:59

crepe thats good to know.

I don't really know what the process is for after birth visits. I wonder if the midwife explains or if the HV just turns up.

How is everyone feeling?

33+2

balalalala · 07/08/2016 20:55

In my area they don't do home visits beforehand. We had a group health visitor session where they said the midwife comes out to you in the days after you get home and they discharge you to the health visitor after about 10 days.

I'm starting to struggle no at 36+3. I'm getting pretty bad fanny daggers in the evenings and just can't get comfortable to sleep at all. However I've had a lovely sociable weekend with a laid back baby shower yesterday which was perfect. Hope everyone else is doing well?

altkat · 07/08/2016 21:32

Can I come in? 35+2 here and apart from an absurdly painful vulva and crying at how hard all the Olympians have worked I'm feeling pretty OK. Have been off work for a few weeks now though so I've been pretty relaxed (and very lucky). This is my first so I may just be naive about what is to come! I do feel like reading everyone's experiences has been a huge help though Smile. Cake for all of you!

MrsCeee · 08/08/2016 09:41

Welcome altkat
Do you know what you're having or are you hoping to be surprised?
My bits have been feeling quite swollen and bruised too for the last few days Blush

Re. Health Visitors, I had a visit after DS was born last time (nearly 2 years ago). This time my maternity booklet has a slot somewhere between 34 and 38 weeks (can't remember) for the HV visit. I haven't bothered asking my CMW about it and I'm secretly hoping it doesn't happen as I don't imagine it will be useful before Bump arrives.

Aceberry I think I'm secretly hoping for an unplanned homebirth.....but only if I can stay in my bathtub for the whole thing. I'm praying I have another speedy labour (but I Must also have my water birth) and I would much rather be in my bathtub than arrive too late for a water birth at the birth centre. I wish there was a way of knowing these things in advance. If I hadn't been induced last time then I seriously doubt I would have arrived at the birth centre in time.

CustardOmlet · 08/08/2016 21:40

My DM was a CMW before she retired, and what I learnt other than her hatred of HB was to have a clear route between your birth spot and the sink (for checking the placenta), if you are worried about your carpets then put plastic sheeting down and have somewhere convinient and safe as possible for the MW to park her car (she had a police officer move her car in one particularly unsavoury estate!)

13loki · 09/08/2016 12:30

MrsCeee I had an unplanned homebirth with #2- still didn't make it into the bath, and the paramedic who came bounding through the door as she crowned was very happy I didn't. As were the ambulance staff who turned up as the body came out, and the midwife who came about an hour later!

I am determined to get in the bloody bath this time, although they don't do water births here (and I wouldn't want to do it with someone who wasn't comfortable in assisting with one) since with #1 the midwife decided I wasn't far enough along until I was ready to push, and #3 I went to the toilet to get ready for the bath and had her walking back towards the bed.

Make sure you have a good light at home, or a Bright torch- I had to transfer to hospital after #2 because the light in my bedroom wasn't bright enough for them to examine me.

MrsCeee · 09/08/2016 16:30

Ah, see I hadn't thought of the practicalities such as checking the placenta, bight enough light etc.
At this point I'm making it my back up plan.

Wow loki! Did you get any warning signs at all with any of them?

shabbychic1 · 11/08/2016 15:36

Hi all I've been away from mn for a while- had flu for 3 weeks culminating in 3 night hospital stay, I came out in Sunday. It was awful- though the hospital was lovely and made me feel Confident in going in for birth. I'm 35 weeks tomorrow and I know I'm still recouping from illness but I'm finding in having to have 3 or 4 hours sleep in the day and rest after even a small amount of activity- washing up, shopping... Are you feeling like this at 35 weeks or is it more recovering fro the flu? I feel really lazy as everything seems far too much trouble, and j feel bad as my DH is being great but also working full time.
Hope everyone else is doing well, sorry I've not read back yet, too tired!! Hmm

Womenareliketeabags · 11/08/2016 18:14

Oh shabby sounds awful Flowers! Glad your out of hospital and starting to feel better. Don't feel bad about your DH, you'd do the same for him and you can repay him when your better Wink I'm 36+4 today and I'm exhausted, gets to about 2pm and I'm done for the day and if I manage a nap with the DS then I will!

CustardOmlet · 12/08/2016 04:24

Well today I am 35wks on the dot and my waters went! No previous risk and DS1 was born with no issues on due date. Got to stay in for the week, if I haven't gone into labour by Friday they will induce me then.

0hCrepe · 12/08/2016 04:54

Wow! Good luck and how exciting!!

CustardOmlet · 12/08/2016 06:12

Exciting but a bit annoyed I won't get my water birth!!! Never mind, there's a baby in my bay making the best piggy feeding noises, very lovely.

Penguin000 · 12/08/2016 06:28

So annoyed I've only just found this! Hi, can I join in, I'm 35+3 with my 2nd but feel like I'm starting all over as ds is almost 7 and I can't remember anything!

CustardOmlet · 12/08/2016 06:34

Welcome Penguin to our party, better late than never!!!

Womenareliketeabags · 12/08/2016 07:22

Good luck Custard keep us updated

Welcome Penguin

Penguin000 · 12/08/2016 08:08

So I had my last day at work yday and on my first day off I have to go to a bloody kids party! I just want to stay in my pajamas and do nothing at all :(

Booo! How is everyone getting on? I haven't read the whole thread as I feel like I'm spying!

MrsCeee · 12/08/2016 09:08

Oh dear, Shabby. Glad to hear you're home now and recovering Smile
I'm tired All the time (more so than when I was pregnant with DS!) so I try and nap with him whenever I can.
Do get as much rest as you can whilst you're recuperating! I had a long period of being unwell in July and didn't rest as much as I should have and now my body has stuck 2 fingers up at me!

Oh Custard. It sounds like they're taking good care of you in there which is great. Do keep us posted! Thinking of you and Bump Smile

Welcome Penguin. Good luck today, sounds like you'll need it! On the bright side, Hello Maternity Leave!

I'm 34weeks tomorrow and have resigned myself to the fact that my unofficial maternity leave started a few weeks ago. I've definitely not sailed through this pregnancy like I did my first.

Bobbycatz · 12/08/2016 09:18

Gosh Shabby hope your feeling better.

Custard shame about not being able to have a waterbirth, good luck for Friday though, hopefully baby will cooperate. Are you at home? Do you feel prepared for baby?

Welcome Penguin I still have 4 weeks left at work, I cannot wait to finish, I'm so over it now. Do you know if you're having a boy or girl?

I'm starting to feel massive now and to top it off someone asked me whether I had gestational diabetes because i look so big ShockHmm umm no but thanks, wtf.

Penguin000 · 12/08/2016 09:56

What an odd thing to ask someone! I actually do have GD but both my mum and sis are both type 1 so I figured it would be likely, I feel so sorry for them as I never realised how much thought goes into stuff (and I'm lazy so glad not too much longer!)

I'm having a girl this time, and very very glad this is my last one as I've never been so miserable in my life! Started being sick at 5 weeks and still being sick now, though not on tablets anymore. Its just pants. And I hate the world!!

Ahh that feels better to rant! Sorry!
