I couldn't post on last thread so hope everyone finds this one!

Great pic annaB and what a lucky girl having four big brothers! I always wanted a big brother and not just because I imagined he'd have cute friends

AnnaR hope you're feeling better now. And glad everyone else seems to be doing ok. I turned 17 weeks a couple of days ago and so so so thankful that I'm eventually feeling much better! Absolutely wiped out by the end of the day but able to eat more now so I think energy will be back soon Smile

DH is off today, yay! Family coming for lunch and the sun is out...happy days

Hi there! New joiner to the thread! My baby is due end of September! 27 weeks along today.

I've never been measured by mw, is that normal? Xx

Dilligufdarling · 27/06/2016 09:08

Hi rose!
I was only measured for the first time last week, they normally start doing it after 25w so if you've not seen you MW since then she'll do it next time.

Nearly fainted on the train this morning...Confused
Suspect it was low blood pressure + too hot + not enough to eat/drink... But will be keeping an eye!

MrsCeee · 27/06/2016 10:09

Welcome Rose. Here the midwife starts measuring your bump at the 28th week appointment.

Anna so sorry to hear you're still suffering. I made a self-referral to physio and was given an appointment the following week for 2 weeks' time (it's for Wednesday). My GP told me the self-referral route would mean I would be seen earlier than if she completes the referral for me. Perhaps you can also do this within your trust? Call your GP reception staff and ask.

MrsCeee · 27/06/2016 10:19

Sorry to hear that Dilli. I hope you're feeling better now. I almost fainted at church yesterday then looked around and noticed that every single window was closed. I pointed this out to DH who then couldn't stop laughing before he went around opening a few of them. Our church I in a modern building and it was absolutely packed yesterday (and boiling).

balalalala · 27/06/2016 13:48

Here they also start measuring at 28 weeks.
Sorry to hear you're not feeling so good dilli. I'm struggling to cope with the humidity we've had lately, particularly when in the office as the ac never seems to be working.
With my hip/leg pain I felt and heard a massive click on Saturday evening and it's been significantly better since then so I'm really hoping something was just a bit out rather than spd... Keeping everything crossed!

Dilligufdarling · 27/06/2016 15:17

Cheers guys, was just glad I managed to keep it together and not end up on the skanky train floor! Grin
Of course, British commuters being why they are, no one else batted an eyelid!

mrscree have you felt like that before or since? Am hoping this was a one off...

I think if they measure too early then it's less accurate.

bala that's great news for your SPD - hopefully that's you sorted for a good log while.

The humidity at the moment is not so fun... I've always liked the heat, but this is just grim and sticky.

MrsCeee · 27/06/2016 15:36

Yes Dilli its happened before but it's happened when I've had nothing to eat since waking up and then have been standing for quite a while (at work). I'm normally rubbish at eating first thing in the morning anyway so I have to really make an effort to eat before leaving the house. Now I try to eat the same thing as DS for breakfast but it's easy to forget/not make time when I have a busy morning or I'm at work.
I'm hoping it was a one-off for you too.

The humidity is definitely not fun.

rosegoldie · 27/06/2016 18:10

Ah ok, my 28 wk appointment is next Monday! So should expect to be measured then, thanks all.

Sorry to hear some of you are feeling faint. This weather is awful for dizziness at the moment. I commute 1.5 hrs into London each way everyday and the tube is horrendously hot!

I've bought a mini electric handheld fan to keep me cool Grin

shabbychic1 · 28/06/2016 17:55

28wk GTT tomorrow, and apt with consultant re birth, and whooping cough vaccination. Busy baby day!! Grin

balalalala · 28/06/2016 18:20

Very busy shabby hope all goes well. I've been feeling pretty rubbish today so switched my work from home days around rather than commute into London. I'll have to go in tomorrow though so fingers crossed for feeling better!

Dilligufdarling · 29/06/2016 06:20

Oh dear what's been up bala? General preggo crapness or more specific?

shabby what is a gtt? I don't think I've had/am scheduled for any of those yet.

Much better day today with no fainting (woohoo!).
Have been much hungrier than usual though so am wondering if minidill is on another growth spurt!

Had almost forgotten that I've got another scan next week am very very much looking forward to seeing the baby again!

balalalala · 29/06/2016 07:33

Glad you're feeling better and lucky you having another scan.

Just general preggo crapness really. Think baby has moved right down as my bump has changed shape and I was having light cramps. Seems to have paused today so fingers crossed!

shabbychic1 · 29/06/2016 09:57

Dili GTT is a glucose tolerance test, for gestational diabetes. My first one came back fine but they're doing a 28week one because I hit 2 or the at risk criteria- plus size and 'older' lol! I'm hoping it's all ok! You fast from 10pm then they took bloods at 9, I had to drink a cup of gross sweet orange syrup then after 2 hours they take bloods again. I can't eat til 11am after they've take. Bloods and I'm starving!! Then waiting for consultant apt so I've bought snacks in with me! Also getting bored and the chairs are really uncomfortable so I keep getting g up to wander around the waiting room. I've seen some nice recliners in other pasts of the hospital but none here Sad

Ah the general 3 trimester malaise, it actually hit me bang in 28 weeks! Aches, pains, lack of sleep, hormones and tiredness! Feeling for you all!

Hope everyone be is doing ok! Smile

Dilligufdarling · 29/06/2016 18:15

Ah thanks shabby that explains why I've not had one. I do hit one of the criteria (giant previous baby!) but not the others.

It sounds grim though! Big fingers crossed for a good result for you!

bala I hope you're feeling better now and those cramps have stopped.

General aches and pains are getting more and more common for me too.
I seem to have been having one massive Brixton hicks all afternoon - it's just not letting up!

Lack of sleep is also getting dull now. Would really like to sleep past 5:30 sometimes!

Has anyone else had trouble posting last night/today? Particularly on the app?

sparkleshine83 · 30/06/2016 06:46

Mildly entertaining if possibly TMI story I have to share... yesterday I was reading a breastfeeding booklet and generally feeling dubious about the whole thing and the likelihood that I could produce milk... went to the bathroom to consider my nipples (not inverted, just short) and was a little astounded to find I am making a tiny amount of colostrum! After all my disbelief...any way it was the tiniest of droplets and I wanted to show my partner as I wasn't sure if I would produce enough to be visible a second time so I took a quick photo. I had however forgotten that a) I had Google Maps on my phone and apparently left GPS on b) I live next door to an Indian restaurant. Alert comes up on phone 'Share this photo at ', me: NOOOOOOO GOOGLE NO I don't think they'd appreciate a leaky boob shot advert...

In other news, is anyone else making colostrum yet? First time mother here so I have no idea what to expect...

sparklystars20 · 30/06/2016 14:30

Fingers crossed to those having GTT - that was not a fun morning and felt quite ill not being able to eat til lunch time and that orange drink... Eugh Confused

sparkleshine I had a good giggle at that story! Grin I too have been fascinated by the boob leakiness - so much so I had to get my husband to have a look! Had a few weeks of it appearing a little most days but it seems to have mostly stopped recently unless I squeeze them.

Had my 31 week check yesterday and madam has now decided to go transverse so getting a bit panicky that I'm going to have to have a C section with no chance of giving natural a go but also telling myself so far she has been breech, head down and transverse so maybe she's just like me and can't stay still and will engage head down nearer the time Hmm

Pelvis/hip/leg pain levels are increasing day and night which is frustrating but only 3 weeks left of work - I WILL make it!!!

BrewCakeFlowersChocolate to all xx

Bobbycatz · 01/07/2016 08:39

How is everyone feeling? I'm starting to feel extra tired and sickly again which isn't fun.

bala I've found the humidity awful I think it's adding to my sickness, I keep having hot flushes. I feel for those who have to commute on the train!

Sparkle that's so funny about the picture. I hate that Facebook does that sometimes too it's like nooooo I do not want to post that!

Hospital question. In terms of changing baby's nappy in hospital do they provide warm water or do you not bother with that when in hospital?

Is anyone starting to pack a hospital bag?

28wks today

balalalala · 01/07/2016 08:57

Oh gosh sparkle fb knows how to evoke panic! Leaky boobs is not something I have experienced as yet but freaks me out a bit!

I somehow managed to avoid the gtt test as they said I was low risk. It doesn't sound like much fun for all of you.

I'm 31+1 now but haven't packed a bag as yet, might start doing so this weekend.

Annarose2014 · 01/07/2016 08:59

bobby during the day they'll get you anything you want - though even in a 6 bed ward there'll be a sink for handwashing so you can just get it yourself. The problem is when you give birth very late like me and when you arrive on the labour ward it's all dark and everyone is trying to sleep.

Basically I didn't change the baby all night. They had put a nappy on in the delivery room. Newborns don't poo much so you don't have to really change it that often I until Day 2 when the milk really starts going through them.

The first nappy I changed was the next morning. Pretty sure I just ran the tap in the room over a few cotton balls and brought them back to the bed.

Am 100% sure that I gave up on water within 3 days and started using baby wipes!

The best thing by far is Vaseline. It means the first sticky poos just slide off. And it is a brilliant barrier to protect the skin from scalding. We still only use a similar balm 19 months later. He's never had a single nappy rash. It was the midwives who recommended vaseline and I have to say, they were bloody right!

Bobbycatz · 01/07/2016 09:37

Thanks Anna it's so nice to have people on here that have been through it before. I've heard that a lot of people switch to wipes sharpish. I've heard great things about aldi wipes and nappies so am tempted to stock up on those.

The thought of being in a large ward makes me nervous, I'm worried that I won't get the hang of breastfeeding or something or I'll have the noisey baby and then everyone will hate me! I've just started thinking about the actual logistics of hospital and it feels overwhelming.

I like the tip about Vaseline, will add it to my shopping list.

Annarose2014 · 01/07/2016 09:56

Yes we use Aldi wipes & nappies. Also Aldi muslins are fantastic when they have a baby event. Soft and durable.

Tesco wipes are excellent too suprisingly. It's funny how more expensive doesn't necessarily mean better with baby stuff.

I was v nervous getting back to the ward as it was 1.30 and I was scared I would be the one keeping everyone awake. Actually it was the formula fed babies who kept everyone awake cos the mums were feeding them on a schedule and the babies wanted to feed literally non stop. So in between they'd cry and cry. A midwife went over to one mum around 4am and suggested the baby was hungry. "No she can't be cos she had Xoz a half hr ago" I think the midwife persuaded her to feed the baby again though. So if anyones planning on FF just feed on demand the first night! That's all they want to do!

Whereas I had the baby beside me on the bed clamped to my nipple for 6 hrs solid. I dozed on and off. I don't really know what he took or not but he was pretty quiet like that. Only cried when he slipped off.

But I had been expressing from wk 38 and my colostrum was pretty close to the surface so he wasn't having to work that hard and that made a big difference to his calmness I believe.

I had also gone to a BF class and they had taught us how to do it lying down. Godsend.

MrsCeee · 01/07/2016 14:20

Sparkle your story made me giggle. I remember waking up with dried milk on my arm and chest when I was pregnant with DS and initially thinking it was drool until DH pointed out it was actually milk. I'm still breastfeeding DS and thinking maybe we will stop towards the end of July (or mid-August) depending on how he seems at the time.

Anna I think I'll buy 1 pack of the Aldi wipes to try with DS, thanks. We tried their nappies and preferred Asda's Little Angels so we didn't bother trying the wipes. Funnily enough I'm not a fan of the Little Angels wipes. We prefer the Huggies wipes and have already started stocking up on those and nappies too.

Bobby there should be a sink easily accessible for you to get warm water from.

28weeks tomorrow and I saw the physiotherapist earlier in the week for PGP and it seems to have helped already. Hope others aren't suffering too much!

Annarose2014 · 01/07/2016 15:29

28 wk appt over with. She actually didn't measure my bump at all, just felt it and listened to heartbeat.

BP was low: 100/60. No suprise tbh as I feel quite weak. I'm instructed to snack a good bit more rather than just 3 meals a day. And drink lots of water. But she said she regularly has women who are 95 the whole way through and they're fine so not to worry unduly.

sparkleshine83 · 01/07/2016 16:25

Note to self: Vaseline! I had the GTT yesterday results back today fine but apparently my fundal height is 30cm at 28 weeks... trying not to worry! What were other people's measurements like?

shabbychic1 · 02/07/2016 15:32

Sparkle such a funny story! Grin My fundal height was 32cm at 27+5, my mw said she wasn't worried, that she's rather he was bigger than smaller and not to worry. Had my GTT weds and heard nothing so assuming I'm ok- in my area they only contact you if you have GD. Mw said fundal length is not an exact science. Also I'm quite big and I do wonder if this makes a difference to measurements?

Anna what balm do you use now please? I don't want to use petroleum/mineral oil if poss, does the other balm have it in it? Thanks!
