I couldn't post on last thread so hope everyone finds this one!

Great pic annaB and what a lucky girl having four big brothers! I always wanted a big brother and not just because I imagined he'd have cute friends

AnnaR hope you're feeling better now. And glad everyone else seems to be doing ok. I turned 17 weeks a couple of days ago and so so so thankful that I'm eventually feeling much better! Absolutely wiped out by the end of the day but able to eat more now so I think energy will be back soon Smile

DH is off today, yay! Family coming for lunch and the sun is out...happy days

My sister recently had a home birth and it went well. No complications. My mum had 2... One with me!

I'm so happy that my consultant has agreed to consider vbac as the fibroid is not in a place to restrict birth. Got extra scans booked in to check progress, so fingers crossed!

Sleeping arrangements: anyone else planning to co-sleep? Any helpful bed adaptor things/gadgets to set bed up well? I did it with my twins but ended up putting the mattress on the floor! Smile

Lovely to hear all your plans x

Dollface136 · 15/06/2016 12:35

Hi women! Welcome.
I'm considering a homebirth too and this is my first baby. I get a lot of "are you mad" from people but I think it is lack of knowledge on their part that makes it seem so scary to be honest. It's a personal choice that each woman should make for herself and personally I think one thing that will really affect your experience is how comfortable you feel about where you are giving birth, for some a hospital feels safer for others being at home.

My SIL had a homebirth with her 2nd but didn't even use a birth pool at all.

My midwife said in my case, as I have no current complications, and live only 20 mins from the hospital, there would be no difference for me between midwife unit and home as it would take the same amount of time to get me into the operating theatre if that's the way things have to go. I think TV can be misleading as they make it look like the doctors/surgeons are all standing around waiting in case you need them when actually there is usually a wait to organise everything.

I'm not going to lie, I am a little nervous about not having any pain relief as I have no idea how bad my contractions could be being a first timer, but I figured I can always ask to be transferred in for an epidural at the time if I can't make it through without or I end up with a really long labour.

bobbinpop we're also doing co-sleeping but using the Chicco next to me co sleeper rather than in our bed as both myself and DH are very fidgety sleepers so was a bit worried to have the baby actually in our bed.

MrsCeee · 15/06/2016 18:35

Oh Women sorry to hear it went. I completely understand why you want the opposite for your second labour.

Dollface I'm pretty certain the midwives will deliver gas & air a few weeks before your due date. I'm sure (but do check) they'll be able to give you stronger pain relief too but the only thing they won't be able to do is the epidural/spinal. Plus there's a TENS machine that you could always buy/hire.

Anna did you have physio for the last pregnancy or have you already had it for this one? I have an appointment in 2 weeks time and I'm really hoping it does something.
There's no harm giving it another go. Sorry to hear you're struggling.

Boppin we co-slept with DS from 8weeks and we just popped him into bed with us. I just slept in the middle and we'd push the bed against the wall on his side. We had absolutely no problems with this. We'll be getting the Chicco next2me for the bump though just so we get our bed back.

I'm not sure how valid my reasons for considering a homebirth are....I'm also not sure how comfortable I feel about possibly not having a water birth (for one reason or another at home).

Annarose2014 · 15/06/2016 19:29

MrsC I had it for several weeks last time. Tbh it didn't really help, though psychologically it made me feel proactive. I had exercises to do at home and they gave me a belly belt...and did some manipulations etc....I was terribly hopeful I'd "fix it".

In reality, the only thing that fixed it was giving birth - literally it evaporated the minute I left the labour ward!

But I am referring myself again this time simply because otherwise it's 3 months of whinging about it without actually doing anything about it! Which is a bit pathetic.

And you never know - maybe it'll be more effective this time.

I bought a new cushion today for between my legs and am hoping it gives more relief than the rather deflated one I had last night!

Annarose2014 · 15/06/2016 19:34

Oh and we coslept last time with the aid of a funny thing we were gifted called the Clevasleep Positioner.

It's a foam wedge with arm rails. And we had it up in between our pillows high up away from the duvet. It was nice cos DH could put his hand out to soothe him too. The MW came to the house and approved of it.

bobbinpop · 15/06/2016 19:46

Thanks for all the tips! I'll look up the foam thing, sounds good. I'm trying to avoid the expense of a next to me cot, as I doubt I'll use it... Can't decide though. Maybe this one will be a better sleeper than my DC and actually sleep in it!!

anyone else totally floored with tiredness?

Womenareliketeabags · 16/06/2016 07:27

Thanks to everyone for home birth info! I'm seeing (MEETING!) my community midwife tomorrow so I'm hoping to discuss it further with her, I've only seen a midwife twice so far this pregnancy, initial assessment and then at 16 weeks (28 weeks now) and the midwife I saw then has been reallocated to a different dr's surgery.

As for PGP I had a referral for physio and it was absolutely pants! Don't know about where everyone else lives but here I was given an hour GROUP session where a physio talked at us, showed us a few exercises, told us they didn't give out bump belts anymore and to go purchase one if we thought it would help and then asked if we wanted crutches. It was so unhelpful, been doing the few exercises we were taught and it hasn't helped. I hurt everywhere.

Dollface136 · 16/06/2016 10:53

Thanks MrsCeee that makes me feel a bit better. I really want to give it a try because I hate hospitals so much! I'm seeing my midwife tomorrow so will ask if they have a TENS machine I can borrow too.

MrsCeee · 16/06/2016 14:48

Oh dear. Now I'm really praying something positive comes out of this physio for me then. I really am.

Boppin, yes, yes, yes! I am exhausted!! I wouldn't mind feeling like this but I'm not so crazy on looking the part too. Everyone in my family (from my mum to my 4year old neice) keeps commenting on how tired I look.

Dollface if you get no luck with the midwife (and your local hospitals), Boots hire TENS machines too.

Dilligufdarling · 16/06/2016 15:37

dollface and woman definitely think home births are an excellent idea.
I'm advised against it due to a bit of a tricky first birth, but would otherwise be seriously considering it.
DH has also requested that we don't go anywhere other than a hospital just in case anything like last time occurs. It won't do... But I can see his point!

Am feeling particularly massive at the moment, have been reassured by people that I'm not at all, but am a bit concerned that there's still 3 months of growing time left! I might pop!

Have been prescribed a hayfever tablet that's preggo safe... Woo hoo! Still only getting patchy sleep, but at least I can breathe!

Sorry to hear about the SPD. I've had the odd day of it and it really is crap.

Womenareliketeabags · 16/06/2016 18:32

Sorry MrsC I hope your district provides a far better service than mine and you get some proper support that actually benefits you.

Dilli I'm still hoping my midwife doesn't advise against a home birth after my last, my husband was initially dead against it (first reaction was 'don't be f**king stupid' hahahah) but after much discussion I think I've managed to pursuade him. Our nearest birth centre doesn't actually have a labour ward at that hospital so would have to be blue lighted to the next hospital along anyway if anything went wrong TOUCH WOOD it doesn't!

balalalala · 17/06/2016 12:53

Had my 28 week midwife appointment this morning (at 29+1) and it's so lovely to hear baby's heartbeat! Measuring fine, a bit below the 50th centile and next appointment booked for 3 weeks. Getting much closer now and feeling all excited!

Bobbycatz · 18/06/2016 08:20

Sorry to all those suffering with spd, must be awful.

I've been struggling to sleep due to heartburn (and needing the toilet) I've been getting up every 2 hours for the last few nights, I'm hoping it will pass as I'm exhausted all the time and was hoping that I would be well rested before baby arrives!

So exciting that some of us are in the 3rd trimester already. I'm starting to wonder if I should consider finishing work sooner... I'm already starting to mentally wind down and deciding to finish at 38wks seems a little late now.

26+1

Bobbycatz · 18/06/2016 08:27

Oh forgot to add is anyone had/getting the whooping cough jab? I've just booked mine for when I'm 28wks, I've read that it's quite painful!

balalalala · 18/06/2016 08:44

I had mine a few weeks back. It wasn't too bad, ached for a couple of days but no worse than any other jabs I've had in the past.

Are you taking anything for your heartburn? I've suffered for years with acid reflux and heartburn and ranitidine really works for me. Since being pregnant I top it up with gaviscon dual action and the gp has upped my dose of ranitidine.

Annarose2014 · 18/06/2016 08:47

I'm getting it in the next month sometime. I'm in contact with patients so really should get it. My GP strongly advised me as I come into contact. She also said a 6 week old baby had died of whooping cough recently in our larger area.

Mind you I didn't get it last time. Nobody mentioned it to me and I didn't know it existed!

Danni89 · 18/06/2016 09:11

I have my vaccine booked for Tuesday coming.. 3D scan today- excited!

MrsCeee · 18/06/2016 09:30

Ooh 3D scan sounds exciting Danni!

I have my vaccine booked for the day before my 28week appointment. I had it last time and it just left my arm aching a little but it was nothing major. I'm starting to think an 0830 appointment wasn't a great idea....I'll probably re-schedule.

26weeks today!!!

Bobbycatz · 18/06/2016 09:42

Glad it's not to bad, may take the rest of the day off work as mine scheduled for the afternoon anyway.

Ooh 3d scan how exciting! you'll have to report back, I would love to get one but DH isn't sold on it.

Bobbycatz · 18/06/2016 09:46

balala I've only been taking rennis but I'm going to get some gaviscon today. I think I've been optimistic thinking that it will pass but if it continues I'll raise it with my midwife at my next appointment.

Danni89 · 18/06/2016 15:25

Can't wait to meet him!! Inlove!

September 2016 - End of pregnancy sickness is in sight....please!
bobbinpop · 18/06/2016 22:51

Agh deleted entire msg...

Morning sickness has returned! Nooo! I also have reflux. Mountain of pillows to prop me up and gaviscon advance on prescription is helping (avoid aniseed flavour.....yuk!!)

I had the whooping cough vaccine a few weeks ago and it wasn't painful. I got bruising later on, but nothing terrible, so don't worry too much about it :)

Lovely scan pics!

Bobbycatz · 19/06/2016 08:29

Lovely pics Danni how was it seeing baby in 3d on the screen?

Danni89 · 19/06/2016 10:57

It was amazing bobby! I'm so glad I did it now. He even gave us a Lil smile
