I couldn't post on last thread so hope everyone finds this one!

Great pic annaB and what a lucky girl having four big brothers! I always wanted a big brother and not just because I imagined he'd have cute friends

AnnaR hope you're feeling better now. And glad everyone else seems to be doing ok. I turned 17 weeks a couple of days ago and so so so thankful that I'm eventually feeling much better! Absolutely wiped out by the end of the day but able to eat more now so I think energy will be back soon Smile

DH is off today, yay! Family coming for lunch and the sun is out...happy days

Oh dear, Cupcakes. I hope DS only has a mild case of chicken pox. My DS had it a few weeks ago and the ordeal was nowhere near as bad as I had anticipated.

Great news, Dilli! I'm glad to hear your midwife is advocating for you. I'm quite curious about hypnobirthing and might give it a go this time round.
We're not moving house. I had to get out DS's old clothes and sort them out for the charity shop then put Bump's new clothes away in her chest of drawers. Then (because I have a serious problem) I had to pack away the bigger sizes (3-6months and bigger) into a suitcase to keep out of the way until she's big enough to wear them.

Great news about your scan, Crepe.

Welcome back Bailey. I've only washed the Newborn and 0-3months size clothes for Bump simply because I've not put them into the chest of drawers. I'll wash the rest as I go along, before I put them away ready for wearing. I'll probably get my hospital bag ready in August.
I think I went off on Maternity leave at 36/37weeks last time. I'll probably do the same again this time.

I'm 22weeks today and DH felt and saw Bump's kicks earlier in the week. DS keeps kissing the bump saying "Baby" which I'm hoping is a sign that he won't try to scratch her eyes and pull her limbs when she's here Grin

How is everyone feeling, back/hip pain-wise?

Bobbycatz · 21/05/2016 18:45

Hey ladies, I've had a rough couple of weeks I started getting severe pain in my stomach area had to go to a&e etc. Thankfully baby is ok but it seems I may have liver/gall bladder issues so have to go for a scan etc. so just waiting on all that at the moment. To top it off I've started getting hip pain and am now limping, I'm only 22+1 so really hoping it doesn't just get worse!

On the maternity leave front I'm officially starting on my due date and prob taking two weeks leave before hand. Handed in my matb1 form and they were pretty keen to know when I was going. Another thing that surprised me was they asked if I was going to return to work and I had to tick a box saying I was planning to return. For some reason I thought they couldn't ask, not that I'm bothered as I will be returning to work but it's strange talking about returning before I've left.

I'm going to wash everything but prob not until August, was thinking about organising hospital bag when I get to 30wks.

Has anyone decided on a pram yet?

shabbychic1 · 21/05/2016 20:54

I don't have much yet, a few baby grows hats and mitts from others and a nice 'bundle' from eBay Grin. I'm going to wash them about a month before I think then put them in the drawers. Using my late nan's chest of drawers for baby station, cloth nappies and clothes etc. My dad is repainting it at the moment. We're getting new cosleeper (snuzpod I think), Pram etc but I love the idea of using nan's old chest of drawers for my baby.

23+1 today and baby is moving a lot. At 6 this morning he actually did a full turn over(felt like a washing machine) then kicked. Like a ninja, but more 'bubbly'. Odd- but I love it!! However, not loving my swollen slab of meat feet and cankles. Horrific! Never had that before, feel like a mutant lol! Grin

reservedlaydee · 22/05/2016 05:43

Hello,
Can i join this thread please? I'm quite new to MN so please forgive me if i don't use the usual etiquette.Blush
I'm due on 27/09 but will be having an ELCS around week 37, due to previous complications. I have one 5yr old DD and i am expecting a DS!
I live and work full-time in London...
I am sadly pessimistic about my pregnancy, so I'm hoping by joining here, i get to share your excitement.
I didn't want to post-overload, so if you have any questions, let me know:)

0hCrepe · 22/05/2016 08:54

That sounds very painful Bobby I hope they can sort it out for you and make you comfortable.
Hi laydee congratulations! Sorry to hear you're pessimistic, do you want to talk about what's worrying you?

0hCrepe · 22/05/2016 09:31

Shabby so glad you mentioned snuzpod it looks fantastic, definitely want to get one. They look quite small though, do you know what age they grow out?
My dm has just ordered our push chair! We've gone for the cosatto woop as it doesn't need a separate carry cot bit and it can turn to face you or face out. Just hope it's good!

Danni89 · 22/05/2016 09:49

We've opted for the chicco next to me cosleeper, and the chicco urban travel system.

I probably won't start washing till Aug, but I will probably pack my bag around week 30.

24 weeks today! Smile

Misshyip · 22/05/2016 09:50

Hi all,
Been a while since I've been on here but it sounds like you're all so prepared!
We're excited about having a little girl! Smile And have decided on the name Aria Lily.

The only thing we've bought though is the pushchair travel system thing (Cossatto Giggle 2) because we got excited and it was on offer...!

We're currently in a 2 bed flat with my sister, who was supposed to be moving out before baby comes but looks like she may still be here at the time so there's no room for stocking up on baby things unfortunately.
So we have no clothes, furniture... nothing!

Also, in my local area there are literally no free birthing classes and no active birth classes at all. The only classes are the normal ones and hypno and all averaging around £350 for a course.
Anyone have any advice on what to do about this? I'm keen for a natural birth in the birthing centre and haven't yet started studying up on it. Wondering I can just learn via books or internet?

malin100 · 22/05/2016 13:10

Can I join in? Currently 22 weeks. First baby and clueless. So far have got a few bits of clothing and that's all. No space in the house so will be doing everything as space saving as possible. No idea about hospital bag or what I really need or should be preparing right now! The only thing I've picked out that I want is a Snuzpod. Don't know about main cot or pram or anything else yet so will hope to get some ideas! Just read the last couple of pages of this and really like the Cosatto Woop mentioned above so that might be a good starting point!

shabbychic1 · 22/05/2016 15:52

Hi Malin, Reserved and MissH congratulations! This thread is so lovely and supportive Grin.

Ohcrepe o think the snuzpod is up to 6mo but seems to also have a good resale value on eBay so we'll sell ours when he's grown out of it.

missH deist your hospital do any classes? Might be worth a look. We're booked into the NCT but they're quite ££. Doing it to meet others due at same time more than anything as all my friends will be working full time when I'm on mat leave.

shabbychic1 · 22/05/2016 15:54

Anyone got a recommendation for a baby book- what to do and how etc?

Annarose2014 · 22/05/2016 17:20

Aria Lily is gorgeous!

I didn't end up buying a book last time as I got too overwhelmed with the amount on the market.

I did however go to free antenatal classes and a free breastfeeding antenatal class in the hospital and both were brilliant as you could ask stupid questions.

When the baby was born I discovered the glory of the MN search feature and I would literally sit on the sofa, newborn in one arm and phone in the other,,just searching every stupid query I had. No matter what I wondered, someone here had a thread on it some time in the past!

I always say MN taught me how to parent, lol.

DH however swore by a hilarious book called Pregnancy For Men as in between the jokes was some solid information about pregnancy and bringing the baby home.

Actually now I think about it, it was very interesting for me too!

MrsCeee · 23/05/2016 01:09

Welcome and Congratulations to the new ladies!

Shabby, using your nan's old chest of drawers sounds lovely Smile

Bobby sorry to hear you're having a tough time. I hope you have your scan soon and can get to the bottom of things Flowers

Missy what a beautiful name! Did you already have a shortlist to pick from before finding out the gender?
We're really struggling with names and DH is being his usual laid-back self about it. Has anyone else decided on names yet?
I agree with asking your hospital if they have birthing classes being run somewhere local to you. My midwife is based at a Sure Start centre and the NHS antenatal classes are offered there for free. You could try that too if there are Sure Start centres nearby.

Misshyip · 23/05/2016 08:02

shabby Turns out there are no classes at my hospital and no free classes in the local area, which was also confirmed by my midwife... Helpful! So I have just bought a book online that was recommended to me by a friend, it's called 'new active birth' by Janet balaskas. Might need to look into getting one about the actual child rearing part too!

MrsC thank you! I'd always liked the name Aria and my husband has always loved the name Lily but it's just too popular now. I went through all the names in the world on the Internet and chose some I liked (like Mia, Mila, Luna) but DH just wrote them all off without suggesting any of his own obvs...
DH didn't always like the name Aria, only until GoT and Arya Stark!

Baby was fidgeting and kicking in the night... Felt like I was wearing one of those slender tone belts.

Misshyip · 23/05/2016 08:03

annarose I might have a look at that man book!

Annabrooke90 · 23/05/2016 08:13

Misshyip you have similar name preferences to me :D I absolutely love Aria and I love Mila too they are my top two names, dp however has said no and he wants Arabella or Aurora which I'm not too keen on, do like them but just not enough. Have no idea how we are going to settle this one.

Ended up in hospital Thursday evening due to signs of pre labour; these are still going, infact some more have started too. My body naturally does this for weeks though (around 5 usually) despite my babies ariving earlier each time and my last been born spontaneously at 34 weeks after having all these signs from 29 weeks, the hospital do not seem to be taking my concerns very seriously. I have my usual midwife on Wednesday and I am going to ask her if there is any chance of her trying to sort steriod injections out with the ward. I almost didn't get them last time because they said I wasn't in labour despite intense five minute contractions showing up on the monitor. They finally gave in and gave me them when my midwife sent me back up. Just feel ignored.

Dollface136 · 23/05/2016 10:28

You ladies are so organised! I haven't even thought about washing clothes. Was assuming I can do that when I finish work at end of August (due 27th Sept). Might get my hospital bag underway before then though as sounds like it's best to be prepared on that front!

I was looking at the Snuzpod as well. Been recommended by quite a lot of people. Will probably get it on ebay like a lot of other stuff I got and buy a new mattress. There are some super bargains on there. I just picked up a Maxi cosi car seat and isofix base for under £100!

My midwife lent me "Gentle Birthing, Gentle Mothering" book which was pretty helpful if you still need recommendations. I also have "The Bump Class" which is a beautiful and quite succinct summary of stuff you need to know from antenatal classes.

Dilligufdarling · 23/05/2016 11:48

annab that sounds so scary! Can you get in before Wednesday - I think I'd be like a cat on hot bricks until then!
Really hope the symptoms calm down and go away. Have you had anything aside from contractions?

Fianlly did the fb post yesterday afternoon. Had put it off for a while but decided that I'd like to do it. Have had some lovely comments.

Is anyone else struggling a bit with their body image? I know that it's all for a good reason, but had finally been comfortable in my own skin for the first time in years just before I fell pg, and now am finding that I'm feeling every lb gained is a failure...
Doesn't help that last time I gained 5st (Shock) and I'm determined not to this time. I did lose it all but that doesn't seem to be the point for me.

balalalala · 23/05/2016 13:18

Gosh, how scary anna, I hope they start taking you seriously.

We built the buggy this weekend which was very exciting. Had a practice with the dog walking next to it and she seemed completely unphased. I'm feeling a bit rubbish today. Suffering with increased indigestion and feeling faint and sick. Think maybe I've just been doing a bit too much. Can't wait to go on holiday a week Friday, hopefully it will be nice and relaxing.

Annabrooke90 · 23/05/2016 14:53

Dilli, unfortunately I've already been in. They couldnt do anything for me. Can't put me on monitors because I'm too early all they could do was look at my cervix which they said was closed (don't trust them on that either as they said it was closed upon looking at it at with ds4) until she decided to examine me properly and I was actually 5cm. I'm hoping Wednesday she will refer me straight to my consultant. I feel fobbed off by triage and they made me feel the same last time too.

shabbychic1 · 23/05/2016 17:36

MissH that's a Shame! I know that some hypnobirthing practitioners often offer free or reduced places on their courses for those who can't afford the full cost because they believe it's important to let everyone benefit from it, might be Worth looking at down local websites to see if they offer them? Good luck! X

ohidoliketobe · 23/05/2016 19:01

Hello! I haven't been on since one of the earlier threads. So pleased to discover this thread still busy, threads when preg with my DS had vanished completely by this point as every went onto fb and I don't use it!

Anyway due 10/09 (so 24+2) it's my 2nd I have DS 22 months. This is a DD which will be very strange but very excited!
I've suffered badly with hyperemesis in this pregnancy which has settled to just vomiting first thing in the morning, and have started with high blood pressure and dizziness these past two weeks, so feel a bit battered!
Anna sounds very concerning, hope all is ok and someone takes you seriously soon.
Sorry it's taken me ages to catch up but to the person after book recommendations - my DH found "blokes guide to pregnancy" and "blokes guide to babies" pretty useful, we were passed on quite a few but found First Time Parents by Lucy Atkins informative and non patronising. It's was fairly factual (e.g. listing 7 reasons why baby's cry, how to swaddle, bath baby) rather than trying to convince you to follow set routines and parenting styles like Gina Ford/ Baby Whisperer et al. I know these routine type books work for some people but we just found by feeding DS when he seemed hungry, letting him sleep when tired, cuddle when upset he settled himself into his own little routine after about 6 weeks.

shabbychic1 · 23/05/2016 19:10

ohido thanks for the book suggestions and advice, I'll have a look tonight Grin

Sharesinpampers · 23/05/2016 20:38

Hope you're ok anna and midwife can help you on Wednesday. Hello to the new people and recently returned!

I've a Snuzpod - it was great for DD1 but she had grown out of it by 4.5 months. I would have liked the Chicco Next2Me as its bigger but it wasn't out before Dd's birth.

I didn't do hypnotherapy classes but did download the workbook and tracks from here. Much cheaper!

www.natalhypnotherapy.co.uk

I also went to pregnancy yoga which you could book in smallish blocks so you could go it for maybe £70/80 rather than a £300 course. As someone else said the breathing exercises are helpful.

Dilligufdarling · 23/05/2016 20:42

anna really hope you get someone to listen to you. It must be so frustrating (to say the least!!)

mrs h we did the NCT last time. It was fantastic for two reasons

  1. the social side of having local people nearby with babies at the same stage as us
  2. engaging dh in learning the nitty gritty of birth. For me it didn't give me much info that I didn't already know from online research but then I am a google hound and became a bit obsessed!
