December 2016... Babies

1002 replies

Penguinepenguins · 21/03/2016 18:30

Doesn't seem to be a thread yet for babies due in December, possibly because I'm crazy and POAS really really early but a line is a line and today was my "double check" second day and a BFP it was again!

I sadly had a miscarriage in November found the July babies thread a huge help in my early days of pregnancy and the ladies were very supportive after the MC - I've just returned to mumsnet under a new name as I was finding it a bit painful at one point and went a bit cold turkey from it all!

So here is a bit about me

I'm 38
This will be baby number one for me
EDD 3rd December (know when I ovulated been using the monitor - the app ok many apps I've consulted this morning confirm this as the date

Very nervous after last time but want to enjoy every minute I can, I loved being pregnant before and want to do all the same things as before just keeping everything crossed for a sticky one.

Who is ready to join me Smile

Hi all, can I join in?

I got my BFP about 10 days ago, but have held off joining as I've had mcs in the past. I've also got a lovely dd who is 2.2, she's a whirlwind pickle that still doesn't sleep!

I think I'm due at the start of December, I won't get a definite due date until my dating scan.

Like others, I obsessively peed on sticks for the first week, and it was so reassuring to see the lines get darker! In my previous pregnancies, I've bled lots. This time, I've only had some bleeding at the start, but I'm still obsessively knicker checking!

Has anyone else had time off work yet? I took last Tuesday off, and I was due back from leave tomorrow, but I don't feel ready to return. I have a stressful job, a 5 hour commute, and work were awful with my mc I had in Jan. I don't want to do anything that will put this pregnancy at risk. I'm hoping my GP will be sympathetic tomorrow.

I am feeling reassuringly pregnant :) Bouts of dizziness, nausea, diarrhea (my version of morning sickness!), can't eat lots of food, exhaustion - I've been having daily naps!

Nuttypops · 03/04/2016 21:16

Congratulations South, fingers crossed for a smooth and easy pregnancy for you.

Excited, DH was quite nervous with my first pregnancy and said it didn't really feel real to him until the first scan, so he didn't know what to say about it although he was delighted. He found it much easier later on. I wonder if it may be the same with your DH?

Is anyone else feeling almost fluey at this stage? Achey all over and a bit like you have been run over by a bus?
I felt nothing like this with DD so am surprised how tired and generally sore I am at the moment, despite no other flu symptoms. No stretchy/achey feelings around my abdomen this time, it just hurts from head to toe when seems like an odd symptom.

excitedmummytob · 03/04/2016 21:45

Thanks Nutty... I think he's concerned how I would cope if something went wrong so trying to keep my feet on the ground! Think he's concerned as I have no symptoms whatsoever too!

LittleBear01 · 03/04/2016 21:46

Hi Cho, sorry to hear about your bleeding. I hope it's gone away now. I haven't had bleeding in pregnancy, think that might have been someone else who mentioned that. I've had failed IVF x2 due to low progesterone and then IVF resulted in a MMC. I do however have lots of friends who have bled in pregnancy and everything's been completely fine. I hope it is for you.

ChoChang · 03/04/2016 22:07

Hi littlebear, thanks for your response. Sorry, I typed from memory and thought it was you, butmust have been someone else. It's eased off a bit now, but just took my last progesterone so will see what happens tomorrow. I had to ring my clinic today anyway as it was my official ivf test day today, but of course it's shut on a Sunday. So I left a voicemail telling them I was pregnant and then basically begging them to let me continue with the progesterone. They're due to call me back tomorrow. Hopefully I sounded convincing desperate enough for them to agree!

Congratulations south. Hope you're gp can help with your work situation. My boss has been great so far, but I know how you feel about not wanting anything to put your pregnancy at risk so hopefully your gp will understand. Let us know how you get on.

SouthDownsSunshine · 04/04/2016 07:07

cho - I bled as heavily as period when pregnant with dd. And everything turned out fine.

My work is stressful anyway, but after my last mc in Jan, my boss mentioned in my written appraisal that I'd had too much time off work. This is despite the fact that it was a mc, and I had just a week off!

shopaholic85 · 04/04/2016 09:23

South, it is discrimination for pregnancy-related illness/time off work to be mentioned in an appraisal. Are you a member of a union?

kippersandcurtains · 04/04/2016 10:22

Hello!
Can I join the gang? I am newly pregnant with our third child - it'll be nice to chat to others due at a similar time. I didn't go back to work after DC1 so am a SAHM - the boys are 3 and 4 years.
Relatively few symptoms at the moment - though the tiredness is starting to hit. I am feeling bad about over indulgence before finding out - few too many glasses of wine over Easter. And so, the mum-guilt begins again!
Congratulations to all - wishing you all a happy and uneventful pregnancy. Oh, and roll on (end of?) May for reassuring scans!

SolomanDaisy · 04/04/2016 10:36

Congratulations kippers!

Cho I hope the bleeding is ok and you get to stay on the progesterone.

I've booked my first midwife appointment. I'm not in the UK and get to choose a midwife practice, so I chose one that offers an early scan at the same time as booking in. Only 2.5 weeks to wait! I'm now convinced that I'll lose the pregnancy, making appointments seems a bit overconfident.

Thisisbonkers · 04/04/2016 10:36

I'm still not feeling anything other than my period about to arrive! It's making me quite paranoid! Especially as I'm only 5 weeks.

Can I ask a question here? Or two! Work, I don't need to tell them yet, do I? I really don't want word to get out. I'm hoping it will all be plain sailing so nobody suspects a thing (Grin)!

And I'm going on holiday in 6 weeks. 3 long haul flights in 2 weeks. Can I just get holiday insurance as normal? Do I need to say anything?

This is all so new, I'm totally out of my depths! I promise I'm normally pretty rational and level minded!

NotAClue82 · 04/04/2016 11:03

Hi all! Congratulations newbies!

Thisis, no, you are not obliged to tell work before the 15th week of your due date (this means you can legally hide it until 25 weeks). I won't be telling work neither until later. Of course discrimination against pregnant women is illegal but we all know it happens anyway (in fact, South, it sounds like this is what you experienced after your miscarriage).

Thisis, I think you should be fine getting travel insurance, at least until the third trimester. I hope so anyway, as I have a couple of big work trips coming up, and I'll need insurance for those!

Totally unrelated, but I'm really struggling to give up caffeine! I remember finding it much easier in my last pregnancy...Though I had a much less challenging job then, and I also didn't have an energetic toddler to contend with! I've managed to cut down to one coffee a day, but I'm hoping to cut down even further. How do you all cope without caffeine?!

kippersandcurtains · 04/04/2016 11:05

No need to tell work yet bonkers - in fact I personally would hold off until the 12 week scan at least. Exceptional circumstances would be if your pregnancy could be compromised by your work situation (I worked on construction sites and had to divulge when required to inspect a site where they were pouring chemicals) or your contract states it explicitly.
Mumsnet has a really helpful piece on flights when pregnant - basically you'll be fine for the first (and most of second) trimester. It is preterm labour the insurers want to avoid. I'm flying too, though not long haul. Do take extra care to avoid tummy bugs - particularly the nasties (listeria and salmonella) as these can be dangerous. So no uncooked shellfish, rare meat etc and wash fruit.
It's an exciting time but enough to send the most level headed into a spin!

kippersandcurtains · 04/04/2016 11:09

Sorry, crossed post notaclue! I am not a coffee drinker, so it isn't an issue for me, though I have cut tea right down to one a day and that's not much fun. Easier in the summer somehow?!
Why don't you start drinking something new - herbal/fruit tea, or horlicks? (!) Or a nice grown-up soft drink? I love the Lemongrass/Ginger one by Bottlegreen or Belvoir.
It's the wine I miss...

SouthDownsSunshine · 04/04/2016 11:19

Flying is fine bonkers, I would ring the insurance company just so it's on their record.

It totally has been discrimination notaclue! It's incredibly stressful and I get upset just thinking about it. I am in a union, but the rep has just changed, so I had to hold off contacting them whilst there was a gap. I'm waiting for my GP to call me back about a sick note.

SouthDownsSunshine · 04/04/2016 11:57

Eeek, midwife just called. I'm getting a reassurance scan next weds and the booking in appointment a fortnight after. It's seeming all very real!

Thisisbonkers · 04/04/2016 11:59

Thanks everyone. I shan't tell work until I'm back of my hols then Smile I've just started a new job too (same organisation). Oops! Grin

And will contact insurance company once I've bought the insurance.

I bloody love a good cup of tea. I started on the decaf when trying to get pregnant, but it's a killer. I have to have some real stuff though as the caffeine withdrawal is just Shock

SouthDownsSunshine · 04/04/2016 12:16

I've cut down on tea a lot, but I still have a few cups a day. There isn't strong evidence to show it's a danger. There's a really good book called 'Expecting better' by Emily Oster that explores common facts and myths in pregnancy.

I do really like decaff green tea, I find it's a really easy taste in pregnancy. I drank it by the bucket load when pregnant with dd.

ChoChang · 04/04/2016 12:42

Welcome kippers, and congratulations!

south that is awful about your work, hope your gp can help you out.

So my clinic just called me back and don't want me to continue with the progesterone. They've done a detailed study at the clinic and say they don't recommend it. Very disappointed as I'd have liked it for peace of mind but theyre the experts and have really good success rate so I just have to trust them I guess. Spotting almost stopped now so long may it stay that way. Booked in for early scan in 3 weeks, it can't come soon enough.

I just realised that I know bugger all about actually being pregnant! After ttc for 3+ years all my reading has been on conception and ivf etc, but now I'm actually preg I'm pretty clueless - I need that book! Moved to decaff tea a while back and thankfully can't really tell to much of a difference so having 2-3 a day and loads of sugar free squash for the crazy thirst I've developed.

SouthDownsSunshine · 04/04/2016 13:32

Haha I know what you mean cho - I was the same with my dd pregnancy! Just take it one step at a time. I'm sure your clinic knows best, but I know what you mean about wanting to do everything for reassurance, I am the same.

lilydaisyrose · 04/04/2016 21:49

Not doing too well on trying to eat healthily here - kids away and couldn't be bothered so dirty McDonald's for tea!

Theaks · 04/04/2016 22:07

Chicken nuggets, chips and beans! Oops

BabyBumpHopeful · 05/04/2016 02:58

So it's FINALLY Monday (don't think I've ever said that when I still had work the same day!) and I was able to call my doctor and get everything started.

So the procedure for me (I'm in Iowa, USA) is:

  • I have a blood test tomorrow at 7am. I could have done it today if I'd gone to the place near where I work but it was $$$ last time so it's worth the drive 1/2 hour away. (I'll get a call same day)
  • Blood test again on Thursday to check levels are doubling (I'll get a call same day and then they'll scheduled...)
  • Ultrasound for viability scan scheduled after that (I don't know how many weeks or anything yet)

If everything checks out they will release me from their care and back to my regular OBGyn.

She asked me my LMP, then asked whether I used OPKs and if so, when they detected the LH rise. She also asked what medication I was on and said "this was a natural conception correct?" (i.e. no clomid) and I said no I had metformin, she said it's still considered natural because my body ovulated, it didn't have meds to force it.

I'm to continue the metformin, seek an alternative for omeprazole and of course continue prenatal vitamins.

So there you go. Exciting.

OH, and I'm still peeing on the IC's because it makes me feel better :D They appear to be getting darker (yeah I know it doesn't always mean anything). I'm using this link to determine if the HCG levels they tell me are okay: www.justmommies.com/forums/f29-trying-to-conceive/1542651-all-info-we-need-hcg-levels-and-when-to-test.html

Theaks · 05/04/2016 08:05

That sounds like good care. Is this what is expected with all expectant mothers or with previous MC.
In the uk ask for a blood test and it's not standard procedure.

MrsJoJo · 05/04/2016 14:03

Hello ladies! Congrats to all the newbies...

I'm six weeks tomorrow and symptoms are hitting - tiredness, knawing hunger and nausea but no actual sickness. Seem to be kicking in earlier this time so either I'm further along than I think or my body is reacting quicker because it's done it all before.

Have been enjoying a few days off work, back in on Thursday so it's been nice to let everything sink in.

DS (8) spotted my travel sickness bands and asked what they are, hoping my long sleeves cover them at work but got to speak to my manager on Thursday because I've just been asked to help with a big event in mid-November when I'm likely to be on Mat leave. If I'm honest she'll understand and probably back me up by asking someone else to do it!

Telling my best friend tomorrow as we're taking kids out and we're meant to be meeting for drinks this weekend so she'll guess. We were both pregnant at the same time last time and our kids are really close.

Planning on telling our kids & parents at 11wks because they are all on holiday in the coming weeks and think I'll be unable to hide it if we leave things much later!

Good luck ladies, x

lilydaisyrose · 05/04/2016 19:29

I rang up to book my booking in m/w appt and first scan today (how they do it here). Booking in m/w appt is on 16th May and first scan is 30th May! She also said my EDD (until scan obviously) is Saturday 10th December (not 11th) - yay!

Sore big heavy boobs today and big hunger.
