December 2016... Babies

Penguinepenguins · 21/03/2016 18:30

Doesn't seem to be a thread yet for babies due in December, possibly because I'm crazy and POAS really really early but a line is a line and today was my "double check" second day and a BFP it was again!

I sadly had a miscarriage in November found the July babies thread a huge help in my early days of pregnancy and the ladies were very supportive after the MC - I've just returned to mumsnet under a new name as I was finding it a bit painful at one point and went a bit cold turkey from it all!

So here is a bit about me

I'm 38
This will be baby number one for me
EDD 3rd December (know when I ovulated been using the monitor - the app ok many apps I've consulted this morning confirm this as the date

Very nervous after last time but want to enjoy every minute I can, I loved being pregnant before and want to do all the same things as before just keeping everything crossed for a sticky one.

Who is ready to join me Smile

This is my first but DSS lives with us, he is 7, we are trying to work out when and how we will tell him.

When we decided to start ttc we had a short discussion with him so that it wouldn't come as too much of a shock and so that we could get an idea of how he would feel. He already has a younger sister and has been living with us full time since she was born (it was half and half before) so we were concerned he might feel a little insecure. The first thing he said when we spoke to him about it was "it's about time! Mejse has been waiting two years already!" Grin I think he may have noticed how broody I have been.

DH is desperate to tell him but I'm worried in case anything happens.
Bertie how old is your DS? I think a similar explanation would work well with DSS

kajlo Since I told my family at the weekend they keep reminding me that twins run in my family. I will be happy either way, but probably much more anxious if it was twins because so far in my family twins have not been lucky.

Congrats to all the newbies and I hope everyone is doing well

Mejse · 19/04/2016 11:58

I just got the time for my first appointments 10/05 for blood test and 17/05 for a check up with the doctor. I will be almost 8 weeks before I see anyone, maybe more if the blood test is anything like the last one I had. It seems a long time away to me, but from what I have read that is the norm here.
When was/is the first appointment for the rest of you?

Pockets123 · 19/04/2016 12:18

I've just done a test and it's positive. Totally in shock Shock, only been ttc for just over 3 weeks.
My mum had a number of mmc though, so my fingers are crossed.

kippersandcurtains · 19/04/2016 12:32

welcome on board pockets!

mejse it sounds like you have a lovely DSS. I didn't have my first appt till yesterday but I had to bring it forward as I will be on holiday when it was previously arranged (at 8 weeks, on Saturday). Other than possibly a v perfunctory GP visit, it is the norm here (in the UK) to wait until around 8 weeks for the first visit (which involves bp, blood & urine checks as well as the booking info).

Mejse · 19/04/2016 12:46

Congrats Pockets! We conceived first month of trying too, it seems too good to be true when I think about it.
Fingers crossed for you

Kippers DSS is a very sweet kid, I feel lucky that we get on so well, in the early days I was really worried that he wouldn't like me. The language barrier didn't help but these days he puts me to shame with how good his English is.
Thanks for the info about your appointment, I have no idea how things are in the UK, its reassuring to know its not too different.

BertieBotts · 19/04/2016 14:04

Had scan and bloods today. Couldn't see anything :( But they said it's probably too early. I feel OK. Have googled and apparently lots of people don't see anything until 6 weeks. DH is bricking it :( I also think that I ovulated much later than we thought meaning it could be a week earlier than we thought, meaning we might not see anything next week either! We have to go back on Monday for more bloods (yay) and another scan. She also did a smear and a breast exam!

BertieBotts · 19/04/2016 14:22

DS is 7 as well, Mejse. We were going to wait until after the scan, which I'm wondering if I should have done now. Oh well. We will see.

Thisisbonkers · 19/04/2016 14:28

Oh bertie if you are not even 6 weeks then try not to worry just yet. Have you to repeat the bloods in 48 hours? That will be a better indication.

Brisgirl · 19/04/2016 14:36

Been on an emotional roller coaster here today! 111 sent us to a&e with a suspected ectopic because I rang with severe shoulder pain and said I'd had diarrhoea since finding out. A&E referred us to EPU who said it was unlikely but they would scan us later in the week. An hour later they rang to ask us to come straight away. Good news is it's not ectopic and pregnancy is in the right please. Disappointing news is they couldn't see a baby or a heartbeat. I'm 6 weeks today so feeling quite anxious about that as we had a scan with DS at about 6+4 and there was a little baby with a head and tail and heartbeat and everything! They'll see us again in two weeks so here commences the nervous wait. It's just so hard when they say..'we can't tell you if it's a viable pregnancy or not'

riding how far along were you when you had your scan?

BertieBotts · 19/04/2016 14:38

Monday they will repeat bloods. I hate needles so I'm quite glad it's not in 48 hours! The technician was NOT as gentle as the wonderful nurse at my normal practice, I want her back! My arm hurts :( I also gave DH some lovely nail marks in his hand, so he's looking forward to labour Grin

I'm not worried after reading about 6 weeks being the minimum, just a bit puzzled as to why they would scan if it's unlikely that they would see anything! I have also now read that they can estimate visibility by HCG levels so might wait and see there.

Mejse · 19/04/2016 14:46

Sorry you had a bad day Bertie and Bris hopefully your next scans will bring good news. Fingers crossed for you both

kippersandcurtains · 19/04/2016 14:53

bertie and brisgirl what nerve-wracking times. brisgirl it is good to hear you don't have an ectopic pregnancy and that everything is where it should be. I can only hope for you that the wait goes as fast as it can, and that you find some reassurance amongst those who have been there before and had a positive outcome. 6 weeks is very early - and is it possible that you are actually a few days behind what you thought?
Hang on in there both - try to distract yourselves over the next few days and celebrate every horrid symptom!

BertieBotts · 19/04/2016 15:56

Oh Bris sorry you've had a disappointing scan too. Perhaps we can hand hold for the next week or two?

SouthDownsSunshine · 19/04/2016 16:37

Sorry you both had disappointing scans Bertie and Bris. 6 weeks is still early, especially if you ovulated a day or two later than you thought.

For that reason, I refused an early scan this pregnancy - I went for one when I thought I was 7 weeks. In fact, I was 6+3 and there was a heartbeat, but it was tiny and I think if I had been scanned a few days earlier I would have seen no heartbeat. I've been in that position a few times before and it's no fun. I find these early weeks of pregnancy so hard emotionally - much harder than the final few weeks when my NCT buddies were climbing the walls!

I finally gave into my McDs craving. I had a lovely icy cold diet coke, fish fillet burger and fries. It was all amazing, and for the first time today I don't feel sick. I'll probably regret it and feel doubly sick in half hour. However, my dd (who has only ever had one McDs before) tantrumed all the car journey home because they didn't give us ketchup. I am so ashamed of my daughter ;)

SolomanDaisy · 19/04/2016 16:39

Sorry to hear about your disappointing scans, Bertie and Bris. Even when you know that it's probably just too early, it's hard not to worry. They prefer not to scan before 8 weeks here in the Netherlands, I'm going at 7+4 and they weren't sure about that (they're only letting me because next week is the school holidays).

firawla · 19/04/2016 16:49

Sorry about the disappointing scans, I hope next one shows up more! I had a scan today too and they could only see the pregnancy sac but said that's okay. Dr thought it looks about 4-5 weeks, so my dates might have been out by about a week. Couldn't see hard best yet but still seemed to be all okay, hopefully!

I haven't told my older kids yet. I was thinking of doing it after 12 weeks. We have a trip planned to legoland at the end of the month though so may end up having to tell them so they're not wondering why I can't go on any rides with them!

Brisgirl · 19/04/2016 16:49

Thanks all. Your head sort of knows that logically things might yet be ok, but so hard not to feel anxious! Yes please bertie - we can do this! Smile

n0ne · 19/04/2016 16:54

I'm having a really bizarre symptom - all my joints hurt! It's really annoying. Literally my ankles hurt when I walk, my hips are killing me, neck hurts when I turn my head. WTF is that about?! Didn't have that with DD. Is it my age? I'm 37 so hardly decrepit!

becciandbump · 19/04/2016 18:28

Reading everyone's pregnancy symptoms and wishing I had some!!

underrugsswept · 19/04/2016 18:56

I don't have much either Becci, just slightly sore boobs (I have to keep squeezing them to check they still hurt!) and a little pot belly. Grin

rider1975 · 19/04/2016 18:58

Me neither Becci - symptoms pretty much subsided today besides being really hungry.

weechops · 19/04/2016 19:23

becci I don't have any symptoms either apart from slightly tender boobs. Don't worry! I've never had morning sickness or anything either (sorry to you ladies who are suffering)

bris and bertie sorry your scans weren't better for you. Hopefully your next one you'll see that little heart flickering away.

My booking in system has changed from 2013! I contact the midwife myself this time round. Ran out of time today so I'll call in the morning.

BertieBotts · 19/04/2016 19:39

I had that really early on, n0ne. It's one of the things that made me test. I'd never heard of it before but it was listed on a TTC site.

I am still getting sore ankles actually.

BertieBotts · 19/04/2016 19:51

They did say on the scan that the womb lining is visible and looks nice and thick :) So that was good.

I have been googling and I think it's very likely I'm closer to four weeks than five. By the fact it took longer to get a positive/strong positive than I was expecting and this. I also learned that HCG needs to be over 1500 for the pregnancy to be visible on an ultrasound, so

She did say "That's the egg" but there were some language difficulties and she later said ovary, so I don't know if she meant she could see the sac (she measured SOMETHING at 2.75mm) or whether she was just looking at an ovary and used the wrong word, or what. But never mind, nothing we can do and at least the two blood draws should give us some answers either way.

BertieBotts · 19/04/2016 19:52

Oops. So if they are able to check HCG levels they might find that as a reason why we couldn't see anything.
