December 2016... Babies

Penguinepenguins · 21/03/2016 18:30

Doesn't seem to be a thread yet for babies due in December, possibly because I'm crazy and POAS really really early but a line is a line and today was my "double check" second day and a BFP it was again!

I sadly had a miscarriage in November found the July babies thread a huge help in my early days of pregnancy and the ladies were very supportive after the MC - I've just returned to mumsnet under a new name as I was finding it a bit painful at one point and went a bit cold turkey from it all!

So here is a bit about me

I'm 38
This will be baby number one for me
EDD 3rd December (know when I ovulated been using the monitor - the app ok many apps I've consulted this morning confirm this as the date

Very nervous after last time but want to enjoy every minute I can, I loved being pregnant before and want to do all the same things as before just keeping everything crossed for a sticky one.

Who is ready to join me Smile

Last time I was jealous of everyone having symptoms. I regret that now! I've only got nausea, no actual vomiting, but I'm just so tired. I feel heavy all over. How can it be so different from last time?

duxb · 19/04/2016 19:54

Hi all. Due to my spotting paid for an early scan and thankfully all is looking well. I'm 8+4 today and measurements from the scan are measuring 8 weeks exactly. Heartbeat strong and my right ovary (where the egg released) is partially collapsed and has a little bleed on it - apparently this is due to the pregnancy and will sort itself out but could be the reason for the spotting. The image actually looks like a little baby.

Those of you waiting for scans - just give it time, it's all you can do. We were fearing the worst but so far, so good.

rider1975 · 19/04/2016 19:58

Duxb - congrats on that scan - looks great. Wish I was there ! Worrying about the ovary - hope it does sort itself out

SolomanDaisy · 19/04/2016 20:02

That's an amazing scan for 8 weeks! It really looks like a tiny tiny baby. Was it an internal?

duxb · 19/04/2016 20:30

They did an external and it was clear but as I was so worried, she offered to do an internal too which is what that image is from.

It's called a luteal cyst and I've googled it since I got home - apparently rather common.

It was expensive but a wonderful experience, very thorough, they measured the heartbeat, checked both ovaries and tubes, looked for any bleeds, checked my cervix was closed etc.

Just got to wait for the next 3-4 weeks for the 12 week scan and then we will be able to breathe a bit more and enjoy it.

Incase any of you are worried my symptoms have been ebbing and flowing. Some days I feel sick all day and some days barely anything. It just goes to show there is no "normal" in pregnancy.

Kajlo · 19/04/2016 20:46

duxb wow - looks great, so happy for you!

kippers - jumping from 2 to 4... what a thought! At least - if lucky, we would jump straight to 2 which DH seems ok with, but he said he'd probably pass out if number 2 is number 2 and 3...

Mejse - yup, that is pretty much what Im expecting from my family too when we tell them. I'm determined to keep it under wraps until the 12 week scan for that reason too, but what if I end up having morning sickness while visiting my dad next weekend... and not having Wine or Brew , or being able to walk as fast as usual, falling asleep randomly... I can see it all unravelling Confused

BertieBotts · 19/04/2016 20:58

Wow duxb!

Yes. I have had no symptoms really since this afternoon which is a bit aargh. But I do know that it's normal. Actually just as I typed that I got another stretching sensation :) So I think it's okay. It's just you can't help but focus on it sometimes! I have work tomorrow and a couple of non pregnancy related appointments which is good.

Theaks · 19/04/2016 20:59

Duxb that's a lovely scan picture. Can I ask about your cyst, is it causing you any issues. At a scan I had at 5.4 they told me I had a 18mm cyst on right ovary. They wasn't overly concerned so neither have I but for the last 5 days I have had mild cramps on my right side. I was wondering if the pain is linked to the cyst.

Shemozzle · 19/04/2016 21:08

I have had a hospital birth with my first and a home water birth with second. When people say they'd love a home birth but aren't brave enough I smile, because I chose my home birth because I'm not brave enough for hospital. Someone said they'd had a home birth but didn't want another because small children and home birth don't mix. I disagree! My dd1 watched the whole of her sisters birth (well, watched dvd's for the first half, but came up intermittently and was there for the pushing and birth) she was brilliant and I'm so pleased that her first experience of birth was so normal and personal for her, not a scary dramatised One Born Every Minute affair. I have seen some beautiful pictures of toddlers at home birth too, and I think having my toddler around would really keep me calm. I remember at one point feeling in lots of pain and starting to lose control, and my daughter reached out and stroked my back and said 'your ok mum' and it really grounded me. I was shouting in transition and she was worried briefly but the midwife just told her it was normal and I was fine and then she was excited and even watched her sister crowning via a mirror in the pool. My favourite ever photo is one of her leaning over my shoulder of the pool looking at her brand new sister with a huge grin on her face.

Anyway, it was the realisation that I would have the birth pool next to the Christmas tree that has got me warming to the idea of a Christmas birth! The atmosphere will be so not and cosy with all the twinkly lights!

When has everyone else contacted midwife/doctor? I'm going to self refer to a private but NHS funded service (onetoone, check them to see if they are available in your area because they are amazing!) but don't want to call them too soon. I stupidly feel I am jinxing the pregnancy by doing so.

Someone asked about intermittent symptoms. I found out later with my first, but with my second I had no symptoms until around 6 weeks. And they started gradually, so I thought I was imagining it at first. Horrible smells would have me retching, but the nausea wouldn't stick around. Random waves of sickness that went away again. I was quite smug until it progressed into 4 weeks of hell with vomiting and exhaustion. I was lucky that my sickness stopped overnight at 10 weeks though.

Shemozzle · 19/04/2016 21:24

kippers when I was pregnant with dd2 I told dd1 right after the 12 weeks scan, as I wanted the scan picture to shows her and wanted to make sure the heartbeat had been detected. This time though I have a 2.8 year old, and I think she'd benefit from not knowing until much later on. But I guess it will be hard to not discuss it with friends and family in front of her. So I'm not really sure what to do. And would it be bad to tell dd1 who is now nearly 9, but not dd2? I'm wondering if she may guess or worry once the sickness kicks in. She is home educated so it will be very hard to hide!

SolomanDaisy · 19/04/2016 21:41

That sounds like an amazing experience for your home birth shemozzle. I don't think my 5 year-old boy would handle it that well and I'd rather not be worrying about his reaction anyway. I really enjoyed my first home birth, but I don't think it would be an option this time anyway as I'm probably going to be referred to consultant-led care. I've visited friends in the hospital and it is lovely, so I'm quite comfortable going there!

firawla · 19/04/2016 21:42

Great scan pic @dubx!

This is mine, like I said can not really see anything! But the measurement sounds similar to yours @bertiebotts, if that helps at all, as my dr wasn't worried with that for 4 weeks

The home birth sounds amazing @shemozzle! I'd like to go to the birth centre and have a more natural birth this time but get the feeling ill need to be with consultant care because of having Gdd last time - has anyone else had that in previous pregnancy?

I was deciding between 3 local hospitals and finalised it today and booked into Watford, anyone else local to there?

underrugsswept · 19/04/2016 22:38

Wow, it's lovely to see some scan pictures on here. I can't believe how clear the 8 week one is :)

DS (2) has told me four times that there's a baby in my tummy. I've just been saying 'Is there? It must be really tiny at the moment' and leaving it at that. I won't actively tell him anything until at least after the 12 week scan. We know a lot of pregnant people at the moment so it might be that he thinks everyone has a baby in there.

Essybird · 20/04/2016 06:45

Hello everybody! This is my first posting as I am still very careful to get excited about us having our #1.. I am 7 weeks pregnant today (I think) and my due date is 6th of Dec (I think). We've been TTC since January so quite a quick one..
Very mild symptoms so far apart from the chest size (which so very welcome!!!) and the weight gain which I discovered this morning - I mean how is it even possible to gain 6 pounds in the first 7 weeks!!!!!!! I'm trying to convince myself that it's just the boobs. I suspect I will run out of that excuse quite quickly though..
I have my MW appt today and we have an early reassurance scan next Tuesday as I am so impatient but also worried and I hope it will help me relax a bit..

K2fatcat · 20/04/2016 08:27

Fiiiiine.... . essybird, we are too similar in stats, so I've decided it's time for me to also take the plunge!

Hi everyone! I've been lurking since the beginning, but as it's our first, have been incredibly cautious, still doesn't feel real! I'm 7+2, edd Dec 6th, 34 yrs old. I found out ridiculously early, at 3+3, before there was even a Dec thread (I have long cycles). You have all been a much needed godsend as I Google, worry, celebrate, worry... It's been so nice to read similar stories over the last few weeks, and excited to be a formal member of the December team! We had an early reassurance scan last week (when 4 days were knocked off my dates. More waiting.) but at 6+2, it was JUST possible to see a heartbeat. They commented that if we had come in the day before we likely wouldnt have seen. Hopefully this gives some positive context to those who have to wait another week!

Am an expat in London, so will most likely be asking all sorts of questions on how 'things are done', you are all already such a trove of information and positivity!

Sunnydays321 · 20/04/2016 09:00

Bertie and bris I also had an early scan a week ago because of one sided pain, at what I thought was 5+6 but they said measured more like 5+4... All they could see was sac and yolk. No baby no heart beat etc. Iv got another in 2 days to see if there is any change. Madly swinging between a "what will be will be/I can't control it/enjoy each day" type approach and absolutely neurotically prodding my boobs/do I feel sick/checking for blood type worry!! It's taken over my every thought and waking moment!! Argh. Hand holding for the week?? Il let you know how I get on on Friday. Good luck for your repeat bloods. Xx

KitKat1985 · 20/04/2016 09:53

Duxb - I had a luteal cyst when pregnant with DD. I used to get pain / twinges on my left side (cyst was on left ovary) but it got smaller and had all but disappeared by 12 week scan.

Sorry for all the people with concerning scans. If it helps I think it's pretty normal not to be able to see anything before 6 weeks. Baby would only be about the size on a grain of rice at that point so it can be a bit 'looking for a needle in a haystack' for the sonographer, and often doesn't mean there is anything wrong if they can't find anything.

I can't do my regular trousers up at all anymore! I'm only about 8 weeks! Shock I think my stomach muscles have just given up after DD1 (and the constant eating to keep myself from feeling sick probably isn't helping).

rider1975 · 20/04/2016 10:18

Wow! That's quite a crowd of us Grin

BertieBotts · 20/04/2016 11:10

I meant to ask you all - is it usual to bleed slightly after a smear? They took a swab while they had me legs akimbo for the scan Grin and I had a bit of fresh bleeding last night which worried me but it's stopped this morning. I am less worried now than I was earlier but is it likely to be that? I haven't actually had a smear before because I moved just as I turned 25 and then never got around to arranging one.

Not sure I like this early testing thing, maybe the UK system of waiting to see someone at 8 weeks is better!

TinySalmon · 20/04/2016 11:45

Bertie I'm sure the blood was just from the smear BUT why did they give you a smear in the first place if you are pregnant?! It just seems nonsensical to be prodding metal rods and swabs about in your fanjo in early pregnancy.

I don't know how it works on the NHS but I have a private gynaecologist who, when she found out I was pregnant, said not to see her for my next smear test till after I have the baby even though I am due for one before then.

SolomanDaisy · 20/04/2016 12:34

The NHS don't give you smear tests while you're pregnant, but lots of other countries do. I had a Dr poking about in there after bleeding at about 30 weeks last time and she said she would have had no problem doing a smear while she was there, but NHS policy was not to.

Some women do bleed a bit after smears, if you have a bit of cervical erosion it's easy to start bleeding.

BertieBotts · 20/04/2016 13:08

I have NO idea. It seemed really random to me. I thought perhaps it's because I haven't had one (ever) so they were concerned by that but I don't know if they would normally do it if you'd had one recently. I think they were checking for infection too (or is that the same thing?) because she said no infection and everything looks fine.

And yes I am in Germany so not on the NHS. :) I'm actually having CBT right now for another issue (I was diagnosed with ADHD a couple of months ago) and my therapist said he likes the principle that the NHS is evidence based. I do agree with that. I don't like the thought of doing extra unnecessary stuff just because it "might" help. I like that everything on the NHS has to be carefully considered before it's included as a blanket thing and seen as a definite benefit over risk. Although on the flipside I suppose it makes it more difficult to access specialist services and deal with little known problems. For example, I don't think I'd get the level of CBT I am having funded right now on the NHS.

BertieBotts · 20/04/2016 13:11

But thank you all it is reassuring to know that a bit of bleeding is normal. I thought that might be it but it's nice to hear I am probably right.

I have just spoken to my mum and apparently my sister had already predicted this news in a dream! Grin She dreamt that I gave birth to a rabbit and she was worried until she remembered that DS was a cat. Confused Grin DSis was at work though so I will have to tell her later.

weechops · 20/04/2016 13:16

Afternoon all 😊

Called the midwife and I have my booking appointment on the 24th of May when I'll be 9 and a bit weeks, and a scan date of 17th June. Yay! Both dates clash with school drop offs so will have to tell my lovely neighbour a bit earlier than I planned so she can help by taking the big 2 to school.
