December 2016... Babies

1002 replies

Penguinepenguins · 21/03/2016 18:30

Doesn't seem to be a thread yet for babies due in December, possibly because I'm crazy and POAS really really early but a line is a line and today was my "double check" second day and a BFP it was again!

I sadly had a miscarriage in November found the July babies thread a huge help in my early days of pregnancy and the ladies were very supportive after the MC - I've just returned to mumsnet under a new name as I was finding it a bit painful at one point and went a bit cold turkey from it all!

So here is a bit about me

I'm 38
This will be baby number one for me
EDD 3rd December (know when I ovulated been using the monitor - the app ok many apps I've consulted this morning confirm this as the date

Very nervous after last time but want to enjoy every minute I can, I loved being pregnant before and want to do all the same things as before just keeping everything crossed for a sticky one.

Who is ready to join me Smile

Induction and labour and emcs about 4 days all in, ELCS this time please and thank you!

Just POAS and now 3+ which is a relief as was 1-2 at the weekend.

Tip that is FANTASTIC!!

DartmoorDoughnut · 15/04/2016 13:50

Oh and I've just bought a pair of dungarees, in heaven! So comfortable Grin

BertieBotts · 15/04/2016 14:05

Dungarees!! I love them. I used to have a black pair when I was a goffick type :o I wore them with this hippy purple long sleeved top and thought I was ace.

I want a maxi dress for the summer if I'm bumpy enough.

becciandbump · 15/04/2016 15:21

Just poas and pleased that it has gone up to 2-3 weeks now x

SolomanDaisy · 15/04/2016 16:24

tip, that's great news!

Congratulations to all the new people.

I've got all my old maternity clothes in the loft, but DS was a summer baby so I'm not sure how useful they'll be this time. I wore a lot of maxi dresses! Do people buy maternity coats? I don't want to freeze! I'm not even going to look at what's there until after 12 weeks though, I'm trying not to think too far ahead!

I had a 6 hour labour, with 15 minute second stage, so I guess it might be quite quick this time.

JillyCooper2015 · 15/04/2016 16:48

EDD 20th December.

First for me, third for my partner. He had a VR in August last year so am very happy / excited we've been able to conceive naturally.

Sore boobs, tired and emotional - been a challenging few days as a couple.

SouthDownsSunshine · 15/04/2016 16:50

tip that's fabulous news.

My last labour was 3 days. The last stage was pretty horrific. I'll be pushing for an ELCS this time.

Nuttypops · 15/04/2016 17:12

Solomon, I didn't bother with a maternity coat with DD who was a mid Nov baby. I was just so hot when pregnant with her, went into hospital in a long skirt/top and sandals that I lived in during the latter weeks, but I think it depends how much time you spend outside. I will probably need to get something this time round as I spend a lot more time outside with DD than I did previously.

First labour here is not my favourite memory, roughly 48 hours from first proper contraction to her being born but only after the induction drip for the last few hours and forceps. Intending to ask about ELCS if possible.

TinySalmon · 15/04/2016 17:29

Anyone living in central W/SW London and want to meet for coffee PM me Smile Would be so nice to meet some of you in person!

n0ne · 15/04/2016 18:11

Hi all! Got my BFP today and should be due some time in Dec, but hard to tell when as I've had crazy weird cycles since a mc in Oct last year. Already have a DD (3). I'm a Londoner who relocated permanently to the Netherlands 5 years ago. Had a home birth with DD and it was marvellous. Good luck, everyone!

TinySalmon · 15/04/2016 18:33

Yay! Welcome n0ne !!

underrugsswept · 15/04/2016 18:34

Just to balance out the labour stories so as not to scare the first timers... I had a hypnobirth with DS. Fast (less than 3 hours from being 2cm dilated to delivery) and in the birthing pool with no drugs. I was mooing like a cow at the end but it's a fond memory. I felt like a superhero afterwards!

Nuttypops · 15/04/2016 18:49

Underrug, did you do a hypnobirthing course or anything? I wish I had pursued it with my precious pregnancy and wonder if it is worth giving it a go this time as I have heard great stories about it.

becciandbump · 15/04/2016 18:58

I was actually googling hypnobirthing today there is a centre near us. Is it hard to learn?

BertieBotts · 15/04/2016 19:04

I remember there was a random hypnobirthing CD left in the room when I was having DS so I put it on. It helped - and that was without learning any of the exercises.

From experience I've had with similar things, yes, it's extremely easy to learn and very very helpful. People often avoid it because it seems a bit "woo" but if you want the science of it - it's basically getting yourself into a habit of becoming relaxed and then building in triggers for yourself to start that relaxation process, which is then transferable to a stressful situation like being in labour. It's a bit like having a button to press which will instantly relax you. Relaxing then helps you cope better and it also lessens the pain because tensing your muscles will make it worse and if you're not relaxed you often can't control this.

DartmoorDoughnut · 15/04/2016 19:15

I think hypnobirthing is a fantastic idea! Definitely worthwhile looking into.

SouthDownsSunshine · 15/04/2016 19:49

I used hypnobirthing techniques for the majority of my labour and it really helped. I was so calm, the pain felt positive, I had no pain relief until my dd got stuck. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

We're months away from labour yet though, plenty of time to prepare.

Bigfam · 15/04/2016 19:59

That's fantastic news tip! Glad to hear your clearblue result has changed too becci.
I spoke too soon about keeping the morning sickness at bay, was sick this morning, and I've literally been grazing all day to stop it from happening again.
My first was born at 37+3 6 hours labour, second 38+2 6 hrs 15mins labour, third 39+0 2 hours labour and fourth 39+3 4hrs 15mins. I fully expect to go over my due date with this one Grin

SolomanDaisy · 15/04/2016 20:10

I did natal hypnotherapy, which was brilliant. I found it really helpful for stopping me worrying during pregnancy. During the birth (at home), the midwives thought I still had a few hours to go as I hadn't been through transition and was calm. Got out of the pool to go to the toilet and umm, baby. I couldn't actually use all the techniques in labour, it was a bit fast and intense, but the bits I did use definitely helped. I did do a one day course, but I think the CDs would have been enough. I still use some of the techniques during dental treatment!

nutty, thanks. I do spend quite a lot of time outside with DS, so I might need one. I don't remember feeling especially hot last time.

n0ne snap! Though my first was born in the UK. Are you in A'dam?

underrugsswept · 15/04/2016 20:19

I did a course locally. I think it was £250 for 3 x 3-4 hour sessions plus they gave you a CD with music to listen to, plus 'scripts' of affirmations and relaxations read by the teacher (who was also an NHS & Private midwife) and the hypnobirthing book by Katharine Graves. I honestly can't rate it highly enough, it was brilliant. I felt calm and confident throughout my pregnancy and was really excited about going into labour. I think you still have to accept the chances are it's going to hurt a bit but hypnobirthing made me feel like I could handle it.

weechops · 15/04/2016 20:22

Hi all. I wasn't sure if I should hop into this thread just now since I'm only 10dpo, but I poas and got a non-squinty bfp Grin so what the hell Smile

By lmp my due date will be Christmas Day!!

Already have a December baby (week before Christmas) so hoping I go a wee bit late.

This is baby #4 and my others are 9,5&2

underrugsswept · 15/04/2016 20:23

Bertie is spot on - it's not 'woo' at all. It's just teaching yourself to relax, especially in response to certain triggers (like the music or your partner's hand on your shoulder). They also make a big thing about your partner's role in the birth too - basically they act as your advocate and keep you on track with the relaxation - which is much better than having them feel like a helpless spare part IMHO.

n0ne · 15/04/2016 21:07

SolomanDaisy no, I live in pretty little Den Bosch, but I do work in A'dam. Is that where you're based?

n0ne · 15/04/2016 21:08

OK, spot the newbie! How do you tag people? I'm used to the WTE app Blush
