December 2016... Babies

1002 replies

Penguinepenguins · 21/03/2016 18:30

Doesn't seem to be a thread yet for babies due in December, possibly because I'm crazy and POAS really really early but a line is a line and today was my "double check" second day and a BFP it was again!

I sadly had a miscarriage in November found the July babies thread a huge help in my early days of pregnancy and the ladies were very supportive after the MC - I've just returned to mumsnet under a new name as I was finding it a bit painful at one point and went a bit cold turkey from it all!

So here is a bit about me

I'm 38
This will be baby number one for me
EDD 3rd December (know when I ovulated been using the monitor - the app ok many apps I've consulted this morning confirm this as the date

Very nervous after last time but want to enjoy every minute I can, I loved being pregnant before and want to do all the same things as before just keeping everything crossed for a sticky one.

Who is ready to join me Smile

First midwife visit today, I'm strangely nervous! I have a long list of silly questions 😳

The sicky feeling I've had these last couple of days I think can be attributed to my cold. I feel ok again today. I do feel bad about going to the doctors with a cold but one of my questions is about paracetamol Blush I'm pretty sure paracetamol is ok but want to double check Blush

my male colleagues have all been talking children today (they are all fathers). I got the usual "it'll be you next, Bonkers". Put them off by asking about more cats!

StubbleTurnips · 15/04/2016 09:38

I didn't join the antenatal club for my DD, but I'm in denial even though I had a very positive BFP about an hour ago, realised AF was missing and was puking my guts up so POAS.

The calc says baby turnip is due 17th.

I have literally no idea how it's happened! Well obviously I do Wink but I'm in shock.

kippersandcurtains · 15/04/2016 10:11

Certainly sounds suspiciously like pregnancy to me turnip Wink Congratulations!

bertie also sending you positive thoughts for a trouble free pregnancy and healthy baby. Good to hear you'll have an early scan to help reassure you & DH.

bonkers you're fine with paracetamol - it is ibuprofen you need to avoid. Oh, and anything else pretty much! Because the drug companies can't test on pregnant women, most drugs come with a 'speak to your GP before taking' caution.

cho it hit me at 6 weeks too - and hasn't abated yet (sorry). Hope your meal goes well!

I took my maternity clothes out of storage today. No new ones allowed as we're on a cost cutting mission - happily I have a couple of pairs of Isabella Oliver jeans to get me through but most else is rather uninspiring sadly. I am hoping my friends will come to my aid and I can do some borrowing. Meantime, thank the lord for the recent trend for oversized tops...

SouthDownsSunshine · 15/04/2016 10:24

Good luck getting through the next few weeks bertie.

tinysalmon do the books have any useful advice on what to eat when feeling constantly sick?

MrsJoJo · 15/04/2016 10:33

Morning ladies! Welcome and congrats to all you newcomers...

My symptoms are intermittent - nausea (I reccomend acupressure bands. I suffer from motion sickness and they really help), tired, metallic/odd taste in my mouth, super sense of smell (poor cat isn't allowed near me as she stinks), hungry all the time! Last week I had sore and painful breasts but that has eased...

I'm not suffering too badly which is good given I'm much older this time!

Hope everyone else is managing their symptoms ok! Thank god it's Friday as I can hide under the duvet and pretend I can't hear the kids tomorrow lol!

StubbleTurnips · 15/04/2016 10:44

No advice for the puking, with DD I was sick for 37 out of the 41 weeks.

Morning sickness is a massive douche.

TipBoov · 15/04/2016 11:22

Welcome to all the newcomers! Congratulations on your BFPs.

I've just had a scan, I'm 6+2, and the heartbeat was twinkling away. They couldn't find any reason for the bleeding, but said the baby looks fine. Such a relief.

KitKat1985 · 15/04/2016 11:27

Hello all!

Congrats to all the newbies, especially those who have been trying for some time. There's quite a lot of us now!

Big hugs to everyone who has had bleeding or anxieties with scans. The first trimester really is awful for making us all nervous wrecks.

Had my booking appointment just now. All was okay except my blood pressure was particularly low, (hence the dizziness), so I need to keep an eye on that. DD was a bit of a monkey in the appointment and decided to use this opportunity to crayon all over the cupboards in the midwife's clinic the moment she was out of reach (thankfully I managed to clean them up). Blush Midwife asked if I had any thoughts on where to give birth (where I am there's a consultant led unit about 45 mins away or a midwife unit about 20 mins away). We discussed it very briefly and basically I had a particularly quick first labour (6 hours) so labour likely to be quicker this time around, and as there were no significant complications with DD's labour she felt the midwifery unit may be better as quicker to get to. I'm still unsure though in case anything goes wrong (but I don't want to risk giving birth by the side of the road either)!

Oh and the first trimester tiredness is awful!

KitKat1985 · 15/04/2016 11:28

X-post TipBoov. Excellent news!! Grin

firawla · 15/04/2016 11:38

Hi! Can I join too? Found out a couple of days ago that we're expecting dc4, around Dec 16th

It's a big-ish gap compared to my other kids, who are 7, 6 and 4 now (would be 8,7 and 5 by due date!). We had been ttc for about a year, just got diagnosed with pcos v recently and started metformin, and obviously it worked!! I hadn't really been expecting it to work so quickly as I was not I wasn't ovulating at all before, and was planning to start clomid in a couple of months, so was totally expecting a negative when poas!

I'm with a private ob gyn for the pcos, so made an apt to see her next week and hoping I can ask for an early scan then just for reassurance, haven't registered for a normal booking in apt yet as I was still wavering about which of the local hospitals to go to - we seem to skip the GP apt here and go straight to self registering with a maternity unit.

Don't really feel like I've got any symptoms yet, must be about 5 weeks today but maybe it's too early

kippersandcurtains · 15/04/2016 12:06

Tipboov hooray hooray hooray!

kitkat my second labour was 52 minutes Wink

KitKat1985 · 15/04/2016 12:13

Gawd Kippers! 52 minutes! Shock How long was your first out of interest?

TipBoov · 15/04/2016 12:53

52 minutes Shock

My first labour was was 23 hours. Id like this one to be quicker, but I'm not sure if want it to be that quick Shock

kippersandcurtains · 15/04/2016 12:58

First was 1hour 9 mins, so am gradually shaving off time. Hoping for a sneeze this time around.
Though actually, it is all a bit shocking. First time I couldn't hold my baby for about half an hour as I couldn't stop shaking (also threw up, which makes me faint, so everyone got rather agitated and buttons were pressed). When I arrived at hospital the triage nurse told me I wasn't in labour and should go home for a while, but luckily a consultant walked past and had a 'hunch'. FGS.
Happily my second boy was handed straight to me and we got the most amazing skin to skin snuggle.
I may have to plan for a home birth this time around - though my 'luck' may run out and give me a three day nightmare!

StubbleTurnips · 15/04/2016 12:59

Envy kippers 52mins!!

KitKat1985 · 15/04/2016 13:02

Blimey 1 hour and 9 minutes for a first baby is amazing! I'm impressed you made it to the hospital to be honest. Makes my 6 hour first labour look long and drawn out. Lol! x

KitKat1985 · 15/04/2016 13:04

Oh and welcome firawla! x

kippersandcurtains · 15/04/2016 13:06

Though kit to be fair, I went to hospital because I thought I was in labour and had been contracting for about 3 hours (albeit without much pain). It was only as they were timed about 4 mins apart we thought we should go in. Then as we were in triage and I was examined (3cm, hence nurse saying I wasn't in proper labour), the first belter hit - and my son was born 1hr9mins later.

So to me, it was more like 4-5 hours I had been aware of things going on.

KitKat1985 · 15/04/2016 13:12

Ahh I see. I had similar. When I got to the assessment unit in labour with DD I was told I was 4-5cm and it would be a while yet. An hour later I had DD in my arms. That last hour was a bit of a blur to be honest. And because it took them ages to transfer me from the assessment unit to delivery, I only arrived in the delivery unit with 10 mins to spare and didn't even get any gas or air before DD was born. Hoping for some pain relief this time around.....

kippersandcurtains · 15/04/2016 13:15

Sounds v similar!

BertieBotts · 15/04/2016 13:19

I bought a super sexy sports bra today :o

lemonade30 · 15/04/2016 13:30

Hello everybody,

I'm Lemonade, I'm 33 and found out a couple of weeks ago that I'm pregnant with surprise baby number five!
My other children are DS10 DD7 DS4 and DD 2.5.

I'm still reeling from the shock and a bit apprehensive as this will be my fourth c section but look forward to getting to know you all Smile

Congratulations to all!

HidinginPlainS1ght · 15/04/2016 13:34

So many December babies! Congratulations to everyone especially people who have tried for so long. Hoping for lots of smooth pregnancies.

My labour was DC1 was 15 minutes according to the midwives (3cm to birth) and probably 40 mins contractions but I'm expecting pay back this time probably a 2 day marathon. Good thing as not sure I want a home birth.

BertieBotts · 15/04/2016 13:43

60 hours for me with DS. It wasn't the labour as such, it was doing the last 8 hours after 48 hours of no sleep that did it. Loved my birth though :)
